(I know this is for skyward sword, but I kinda want to try and leak some Breath of the Wild into it.)
Prompt:
In the chaos and the storm, Zelda raced through the forest. "Link!" she cried out, "Link!"
She stumbled a few times, but wouldn't dare fall.
He was out here somewhere… fighting… surviving…
'Please…' she mouthed the words through strained breath, beating her feet mightily against the mudded. Her hair flew behind her as she ran, a streak of light in an otherwise shadow-ridden world…
She heard an explosion go off, and only then did she turn around to look. She saw the fire light up the night sky, blazing upon the trees nearby, guiding her to the fight.
"Link!" her eyes widened in shock, her friend… her precious friend…
She ran towards the flames, jumping through them and placing her arms over her face. "Liiinkkk!" she cried out.
"Hyahhh!"
A powerful cry cut through the blistering storm as a blade shined towards a red light…
Another powerful blast as Zelda only looked passed her arms to see the glimmer of it's magnificent light… before flames engulfed it.
"LIIINNNNKKK!"
She was blasted back by the impact, but the attack wasn't directed at her.
She fell back hard, rolling on her back before situating her feet back on the ground.
She felt fire soar into her mouth as she screamed out his name… a name she had grown to care about… a name that she first heard through other voices speaking it… before hearing him—for the first time—say it himself.
He was a part of her now, she couldn't do this without him.
With muddy tears in her eyes, she forced herself up, crawling towards the body lying on the ground near the Guardians who swarmed him.
Their eyes searched him a moment, but she kicked herself off the ground, grabbing him and pulling him up close to her. "Please…" her voice was horse, but she saw his eyes flicker open to try and weakly look up at her. She couldn't help but sob. He had promised to be there with her… to protect and defend her people… this land… and she was useless to promise anything back.
"Please..!" she cried out, closing her eyes as her vision blurred. Red lights… were everywhere. "I… I can't do this alone…"
His hand lightly moved but flopped down before she could see his attempt to comfort her.
Her head swayed down as she gripped the sides of his shirt, the shoulder being tugged up towards her tearful face.
He leaned his head up, using the last of his strength to whisper…
"It's not too late…"
Her eyes slowly came open…
In her despair, his voice still sounded sharp… clear… full of faith and compelled to sound confident… but truly filled with love.
Even now… in his exhaustion… he believed she could summon her power. Even now… when she thought all hope was lost… he was gently encouraging her to look forward… to never give up…
"Link…" Her voice grew softened as she leaned her head closer up to his… before he smiled… and then his head went limp as well as his body.
She ducked her head.
A powerful magic filled her soul and carried throughout her body.
She felt the light spread and expand and her mind cleared up.
She lifted her hand up and expelled everything she felt out. Everything… she felt for him.
The Guardians were knocked back, falling and squirming on their sides, blasting into each other in their confusion.
She had to then drag Link…
It was difficult, his boots would fill with mud and so she had to take them off.
Then his pants dragged…
His heavy knight's shirt…
Everything had to go.
She finally made it to the ancient stone building of the shrine, struggling to lift him up by his bare chest into the neon blue water.
"I'm so sorry, Link…" she began, taking careful consideration to place his clothes to the side. "I'm so sorry I couldn't make any promises before…" she wiped her eyes and looked at her hands…
She didn't want to dirty him any further and cleaned them on her white dress.
She then slowly began to lift his legs in… allowing his body to begin to sink into the blue…
"One last breath,… Link."
He inhaled, simply because he was breathing, before exhaling as his entire body submerged, but before then…
"I promise now,… Link…"
His face was half under.
"Because now I can promise you… with this new power…"
She outstretched her hands and placed them above where he lay…
"I promise to wake you up… I promise… I promise…" she shook her head, "No excuses! I'll be waiting for you! I'll never give up again. I promise, Link!" she looked down to see him fully submerged, fully in what looked to be an eternally preserved slumber.
"Rest… then come find me. Remember me, Link… Don't forget." She lowered her hands as light covered the shrine's existence, stealing it in a power uncommon to mortal man.
As if a sacred ritual, she folded his clothes and placed them somewhere he could find them when he awoke.
She began to walk out… knowing she would be going alone… feeling her friends were already fallen… and now Link… Unable to lean on him for support.
She couldn't act weak or frightened now… though she was, somewhat…
Before she left, she turned one last time, looking at the room.
"…May your eyes open… to all that remains… and to all that can be saved… Don't forget me, Link."
She waved her hand… and the place was sealed.
After his long rest… Zelda floated down from defeating Calamity Ganon, and turned to him.
After a moment of brief, charming conversation that she was known for… she was surprised to hear him speak.
"…Your voice…" he stated.
He then moved forward, hesitating. "…You're the one that woke me up."
She worried then, that he had truly forgotten everything.
Her heart sank and the light within her grew faint…
"…Zelda…"
Hearing her name, she felt her life soar back into youthful radiance.
She teared up and couldn't help but laugh a moment.
She nodded her head.
His feet quickened, his eyes widening and all his force sprinting to her. "Zelda!"
"Link..!" she charged towards him, an embrace that could never be broken… again.
