cutegirlmayra

Okay, I'm really excited about this and couldn't go to sleep without writing ti so here you go! Trying to keep it canon with AU ideas! (Slight Sonamy and Shadamy)

Prompt:

Amy ran into the building, practically toppling over her pigeon-toed steps as her strength began to falter. She hunched over and held her hand to her wound, on the side of her stomach, and trying desperately to breathe.

She moved her head up a moment, feeling the bounce of her chest as it wasn't her lungs that seemed to struggle… but her heart.

She pushed fear aside, it wasn't important right now anyway as she smiled.

She had gotten to Sonic… she had helped everyone.

Now it was time for Sonic to do his part.

She breathed loudly, allowing herself to show exhaustion and pain, wincing a moment as she tried to use her other hand to push off her knees.

"…Amy!"

A pattering of wet shoes caught her attention. Her eyes opened more at the realization that she was followed, and slowly turned around, baffled.

"S…Sonic…?" she knew the voice anywhere. Her stance wobbled, but her surety of the voice and the man she loved in front of her was absolute. "You… You followed me?" her voice shook in a type of laugh.

Normally, she would have been so happy now, a small smile skimming across her cheeks…

But then…

Sonic's face looked concerned, slowing his steps to skid to a halt in the damp and dark stoneworks. "You took off all of a sudden." He walked a bit, showing the momentum of his earlier "soft" chase of her coming to a close before…

His foot hit the paved stone and stopped him just as his mind registered that her hand was caressing her left side…

His eyes went from there… back to her face.

Amy noticed the look, and shifted her gaze down to the floor. She stepped back a moment, thinking fast. "Uhh…" she quickly shook her head and her free hand, smiling. "It's not what it looks like. You shouldn't be here." She began to move towards him, "You need to go back. To the others..!" she nodded her head and placed the other hand up by her cheek, trying to show her sincerity and convince him to go back.

She lightly pushed him when he didn't move, making his face turn slightly harder and his frown remain… he seemed to just be observing the situation, allowing her to move him back some.

"Amy…"

"I'm fine! Really..! Augh…" she closed her eyes, fighting the pain of an old sting…

The old blood clotted dry on her hand… but she couldn't reveal that.

When she started to topple, Sonic reached out and held the hand she had used to push him back towards where he had come.

He fell to a knee and held her a second, "Why are you lying to me..?" It was barely above a whisper… but she felt his breath on her ear… and knew there was no way out of this now.

"Heh… I… Didn't want you to worry." She finally admitted, not able to control her breathing or hide her pain anymore.

His eyes traced her expression… as though still unsure what was the matter.

He pushed his lips into a tighter line now and went to look under her hand.

"Yysh!" He flinched back, seeing he had to almost peel back a layer of dead blood on her hand and dress… He couldn't even see the wound under it!

"How long have you-" He turned back to her but she shook her head, lifting her weak hand in front of his face, but lowering it down soon after.

"Don't… Don't scold me… please…" her eyes fluttered slightly, and he ended up closing his mouth to listen to her explanation.

He couldn't really speak over her anyway, she began to speak and he didn't really have a choice.

"I know you… Sonic. You're the kind of man… who doesn't see the glass half empty, or half full. If it's you… you'd fill the glass to the brim." She giggled slightly, but Sonic could tell something was wrong.

A slight but sure shift in his demeanor suddenly happened then. As if he knew what kind of "talk" this was. His eyes became more innocent, widening as his body moved closer and his eyes frantically searched for understanding.

"… Save everyone Sonic…"

Shadow raced through from the other side of the stoneworks, heading to the corner where he heard the faint voice before his serious expression immediately changed.

He halted with a slight screech, hearing the rain more fully as the other entrance's location became clearer…

"Amy..?" he listened in, lowering his head and tilting his it to try and hear better with his ear.

"I knew… I knew you would want to save me too… but…" she coughed and gripped her side again, causing Sonic's panic to leak through his momentary silence as he fidgeted and tried to reach over and help press her hand further into her side, pulling her up with his other hand to balance her and keep her back up from falling.

His eyes were bent now. It was clear he was fearing something… He was fearing whatever Amy was trying to tell him…

"Sonic,… I chose this."

Shadow's eyes suddenly twitched violently, his head moving back into its proper alignment.

"Just like how I chose you… and chose-" she coughed, straining a moment before continuing again, "Chose my destiny… to intertwine with yours." She smiled through the obvious pain, a tear rolling down her delicate cheek as she breathed more heavily now.

"I…" she lifted her weakened hand but…

Sonic was frozen… all but for his eyes. Glossy… but rather allusive to revealing their true emotions… his state… still a mystery to her.

"…Please save them, Sonic… Save them all… but me."

"Amy!"

"Her hand never made it, but he bypassed it. Immediately reaching for her shoulder, he shook her as her back and neck bent to fall back…

His eyes shook… a moment of silence…

"AMMMYYY!"

A blackness overtook him and his fur darkened… as Shadow hit the wall next to himself with his back, seeing the flashbacks of Maria… knowing what this was.

He closed his eyes tightly, hearing Sonic's growing rage, knowing it would turn to bitter anguish once the realization hit.

He rounded the corner, almost impulsively stepping up to the suffering soul.

"Sonic…"

Sonic's body was raised above hers, her head to the side and covered partly by her quill…

He looked up. A fierce, beast-like rage hung in his eyes. Still… as his teeth bore the pain back from him accepting such a reality…

"…I don't wish what happened to me…" Shadow lowered himself down to his side, seeing Sonic's face soften slightly. "Upon anyone." He held out the underneath of his arm, "My blood was made to be a cure-all… It hurts to experience but heals instantly." He waited for silence permission…

Sonic looked down at his arm, his brow furrowing as he computed what Shadow was suggesting…

"It's healing properties… if she's still there, should save her."

"…"

"I couldn't save Maria." Shadow's voice grew sharper, his glare a wild threat. "Let me at least save her."

"…"

Sonic moved, nodding as the fur softened back into his royal blue.

He helped lift her up again, her limp head falling just below his chin as Shadow bite down and endured the painful injection of his fangs to his arm. He then, still enduring, ripped through the skin further…

He lowered the exposed and bleeding arm to Amy's side… removing her hand though nothing was shown of what was really happening in the moment.

He pressed on his arm as his eyes squinted through the pain from the gushing blood…

"Her words were for you to save the others." Shadow didn't look away from his continual pushing and squeezing on his arm, keeping the transaction going.

His blood wasn't normal… it entered and flowed right away through the cracks where the fresh blood was still coming out of…

Sonic held his stare… before slowly moving his head and nodding only once, putting Amy in Shadow's arms…

Before he let go… he stated something, something Shadow only expected.

"I'm in your debt… Shadow."

"I'll try and save her… but if I can't-" He looked up, "Don't empty the rest of the glass."

Sonic rose up, still staring down… "Don't try." He smirked, fighting through his own emotions.

He turned around, his voice turning from light to dark once again.

In all seriousness… he spoke one final warning. "Save her."

Shadow thought a moment… then also spoke one last hope. "If she didn't want you to save her… then she can't dispute this."

Sonic turned his head slightly to look over his shoulder… and nodded.

He ran off then… his footsteps hard but swift over the wet ground…

Shadow watched him till he was out of sight… and then continued to his operation…

After a moment, Amy's head whipped up, a large gasp before reeling in pain, having to restrain herself as she looked to Shadow.

"W…Where's Sonic?" Her face showed the excruciating pain, but her words were full of deep love.

"He's doing as he was told. Saving them." Shadow barely looked to her, only a swift follow-up glance before back to the procedure. "It's going to sting."

She gripped her stomach, not pulling away but clearly having to react to the pain. "Shadow… Shadow…" her faint, pleading voice torn at his heart a moment… but he remained unphased and continued as she repeated his name, trying to come too.

"I can't see."

"Give it a moment."

"Shadow… How much… How much have you..?"

"It's fine. I won't stop till I'm sure you're out of the dark." He looked over again, checking to see her white muzzle flushing with color once more.

So… there were results.

Maybe his existence wasn't for nothing.

He looked back at the open wound.

The dry blood was attacked by his own, and it rapidly healed and pushed out the unwanted clots, healing her side quickly but with great payment…

"AHH!" she arched her back, gripping the stone ground by her side before fluttering her eyes again. "Shadow… Shadow…"

His own eyes seemed to wane, but he shook his head and continued.

He was growing weary from losing so much blood… but he'd rather risk his own life than have Sonic return and Amy not stable…

"I'm… I'm not important… because I'm not important…"

"What..?" This peaked his interest and he looked back to her, scanning her delirious face as she didn't seem all quite there yet…

She was returning… but not fully.

And through the pain, she spoke… but now he simply pressed his arm up against her wound, not pouring any more out.

He simply stared… listening…

"That's what… What I should have told him… what I wanted to tell him…" she tossed her head back and forth, but the force of it increased, showing him that her energy and vitality was returning to her.

"Why… would you consider yourself not important?" He thought it might be best to keep her talking. It only proved her consciousness was coming back with her body…

Her body… was squirming under the uncomfortable pain. Her mouth bit down every other line… and her eyes barely knew where to look through the pain and tears.

"Shadow… Shadow…"

He realized then.

His eyes widened.

Maria… She sacrificed herself because she felt she wasn't important.

Not as important as Shadow was to her.

His pupils trembled… as Amy continued.

"Sonic… the others… I'm not worth saving… if they're not… if they were to…"

He removed his arm from her side.

"Sonic has to… he has to save them… I'm not important… I'm not… Shadow… I'm not important… I would… I would go… if they stayed… if they lived… Shadow… If they smiled… If they lived… Shadow… Shadow…"

He did the one thing he thought he could never do.

He pulled her up to himself, held her as physically close as he could without hurting her,… and cried.

(Because he finally understood why Maria would do it. He understood love in it's fullness. He knew what power moved Maria, her thought process, and Amy once again… showed him that insight. :') )
