Boom! Sonamy prompt~ Amy and knuckles have discovered some ancient grounds and have teamed up to uncover its mysteries! With knuckles knowledge of the language and Amy's archeological expertise they make a great team! But after three days with working together and spending almost all their time with each other, a certain someone starts to get jealous. even tries to help out but he just gets in the way! What will out blue hero do!? And hey, throw in some mystic mumbo jumbo too ;D

Amy and Knuckles indeed find an ancient chasm with walls of pure plated artistry. It's absolutely breath taking, and even gives a detailed account of many legends and fables, Gods and Magic, and creatures of metallic design.

Knuckles is called out by Amy, who is excavating with some volunteers to carefully dig out and restore the ancient marvels of stone etched paintings. Knuckles is astonished to realize that these were made by ancient echidnas, and immediately hops aboard on Amy's translation committee.

Having not heard back in some time, Sonic and Tails decide to abandon their watch over the village and head down to check things out.

Tails is immediately interested in how delicately they use their tools to dig out the rocky wall works to then be displayed more prominently.

Sonic… on the other hand… is a little more interested in receiving some wanted attention from his friend again.

"So, Amy, having fun on your-"

"Not now, Sonic. I have to much to-bring those to the dusting tent, we need samples of the rock too, for dating purposes, so also take them to the scientists tent, thank you!-Busy to talk right now." she walked on, as he slowed his step and stopped, staring back at her and feeling a bit of his ego drop, realizing she didn't value him as the most 'important' thing anymore… or at least right now.

He huffed a bit, and placed his hands on his hips before shifting to folded arms and looking away. "She didn't even complete her first sentence…" he complained, not liking being ignored when he just wanted to talk a moment…

Then he noticed something…

"Knuckles! How's it looking up there?" Amy turned to look up to Knuckles, creating small talk with him, even though she JUST CLEARLY STATED she didn't have time for that.

"All's good up here, Amy!" Knuckles waved down, smiling like a giddy kid hearing his families epic stories. "I can't believe I was related to these guys! Warriors, magicians,… even kings!"

"Haha, I'm glad your having fun. But remember, let the scribe write it down, okay?" Amy winked and went onward, as Sonic stared at her in confused surprise for a moment, then glared up at Knuckles.

He walked over to the wall that he was climbed up on, with the scribe in a cart that was hoisted up to Knuckles, that way he could write down what Knuckles told him too.

"Gee, you two got pretty close over all this 'family history' stuff." Sonic rolled his eyes on 'family history' and looked annoyed.

"Yeah, I never knew at first why Amy was so interested in archaeology, ha! Now I see why! She once told me it was like learning about her second family! Even though she's not really related to them, she really holds these people's history to heart. Haha! What a woman! Good taste in ancient societies though." he kept dusting off the wall with the art on it, and blew to get most of the loose dirt off as well. "Ack! So old.."

"She told me they were her second family…" Sonic's ears moved back, getting upset over nothing as Amy probably explained to a lot of people her love for archaeology in that way. He grew even more upset, and shouted up to Knuckles, "What's so interesting about dead echidnas anyway?! What? they dug a few cool pictures into rock walls, WOW. Can we all just get them out and put them in a museum and go home now?"

The whole chasm rang with his echo, as everyone stopped to gasp and look back at Sonic.

He felt so self-conscious, as they all seemed either hurt or offended by his statement.

"What's…so..INTERESTING?!" Knuckles lost his temper, and jumped down from the rocky wall, and landed with dust blasting away from him, looking pretty powerful.

He stomped up to Sonic, looming over him as he spoke, "Ancient wars, warriors who fought from a code of heart. Societies lost long ago that teach of things we could really learn now, here, after losing it for so long. Families, a whole way of life, adventures, Sonic! Let me ask you this… who doesn't want to travel back in time and see how the world was? Where's your sense of curiosity and enlightenment, huh? Where's your sense of ADVENTURE!?"

Sonic had leaned back, slightly frightened, but not letting it show so much as he just really felt ashamed about saying that.

"Well? Aren't you going to answer him?"

Sonic turned around to see Amy, clipboard in hand and papers held together by rings that made it look like a book. She didn't seem to happy either, as her arms were folded, and she walked over to Sonic, thrusting the papers into his hands.

"Try reading a few stories from the past before acting like their so lame and boring!" she spat out, and walked over to Knuckles as they walked away together, her patting his back. "Come on, Red. He's not worth getting mad over after being so happy this last week."

"Grr…true, but still! He just makes me so-! Augh! He's so ignorant! that ignoramus!"

"…Did you learn that from the scientists?"

"…yes."

"Do you what it means?"

"I think so."

"Well okay, then."

Sonic huffed a bit in frustration at being scolded and slightly reprehended. He walked over to a wall that no one was hanging or climbing on and opened the book, suddenly getting absorbed in the story of a young prince who abandoned his kingdom to explore the world and help those that needed him. He became a hero, who soon found his brother was terrorizing his people, and had to choose between his life or his birthright. By the code of heart, one rule stated, "Through your actions, bring honor to your people." That's when the young prince returned and defeated his brother, which broke his heart, but the betrayal led to the brother's banishment. He then fought his brother in many wars over the throne, and ruled in righteous valor and honor. But sadly, was never able to return to his life of heroism. However, he was able to save his people from a terrible tyrant, and as Sonic looked, he saw the picture of the echidna prince, and holding his sword out to the world, and his shield over his kingdom, showing how he defended their lives, and now had to forsake the world to protect them.

Sonic walked over to Amy, humbled by the amazing story he read, and gently handed it back to her. "You uh… heh, wouldn't happen to have a volume 2, by chance… would you?" He embarrassedly scratched the back of his head, but smiled kindly.

Amy also smiled, glad he understood why she loved the ancient stories so much, and grinned. "He had a son." she stated, "Legend says he rode a huge winged beast." Sonic's eyes lit up.

"Cool."

"I know right?"

The two laughed together, as Knuckles looked back to them and grinned, approving of Sonic's change of heart. "Code of heart, gets them every time!" he laughed, almost cheering for his people, as he longed to follow the code of his ancestors as well.
