I had this idea a while ago but in the sonic boom universe just imagine Tails was invited by Zoey to a dance, so he doesn't know that much of like slow or ballroom type of dances so he goes for help to Amy, I just thought it would be really cute on how good friends Tails and Amy could be and how adorable it would look if Amy is helping out Tails, idk it was just a thought I wanted to share :v

Prompt:

"Tell me again WHY I need to be here?" Tails tugged on his bowtie, wearing a nice tux-shirt as his tails waved behind him, seeming to try and make it more comfortable for himself. He seemed to look skeptical of his appearance, perhaps embarrassed and still looking for excuses.

However, he was already here…

"Because. I was invited to a nice dance. Sonic apparently is too busy to come, though he won't say why, and Knuckles is… weight-lifting… and apparently that's more important than his best friend so you're not leaving if you DARE!" Amy seemed to be at her rope's end. Not taking anymore excuses, she yelled in Tails's face as he pulled back, waving his arms out to try and calm her down.

"Okay, okay! I get it…" he looked away, sighing at his predicament before gasping and hiding behind Amy, his bowtie twirling from his surprise.

"Huh? What's gotten into you?" Amy looked around, before seeing Zooey by a dinner table, sighing and looking sorrowfully toward the dancing couples. "Oh, isn't that..?"

"It's Zooey!" his knees shook.

"Tails? Why are you cowering? I thought you two were penpals." She raised her hand up in a bit of a shrug, not sure why he was acting this way.

Tails gulped, "I… I kinda wrote her that I was coming." His voice began to shake, even cracking a little. "I didn't think she'd ACTually come." He gripped his throat, blushing at his voice.

"Aww~" Amy placed her hands over her heart, seeing how truly awestruck he was to find her here. "Maybe she thought that was you inviting her to the dance!" she squee'd in excitement, clapping her names. "Oh, Tails! You got a date!"

"I-WHAT?!" He flinched back, "No-no-no, I couldn't have-! I mean… did I?" He pointed to himself, still frazzled by this new development. "Oh, Amy… This is terrible!"

"Terrible?" Amy turned back to him, hands on her hips as she noticed his teeth clattering and him gripping his head, his knees still bent in panic. "A girl answers your request to dance with you and you call that terrible?"

"No-!" he shook his head, then looked away, "Yes… Ohhh, but it's BECAUSE of the dance! I-I don't know how to dance! You taught Sticks that stuff, remember?!" he moved away, continually shaking his head and the moving a foot forward to truly emphasis his dilemma. "Amy… You gotta help me! I-I-I don't wanna look bad in front of Zooey!"

Amy smiled sweetly, "Of course. But you're not gonna look bad in front of Zooey."

"I'm not?" Tails looked a little confused, but intrigued, perking his head up.

"No." Amy giggled, taking his hand.

"So, we're going?" he gestured his finger back to the entrance, and she shook her head.

"Nope!" she started dragging him to the dance floor, him tottering behind.

"W-w-wait! What's your big plan then?"

"No big plan, just a small one." Amy took a deep breath, "Dance lessons."

Tails whined pathetically, his ears bending down in remorse as he realized where he was.

Amy showed him where to place his hands, comfortably and respectfully, and then the steps to count and when to twirl the girl.

"Do I have to twirl?" He frowned, looking nervously to his feet.

"Of course! Every girl loves the twirl!"

"…every one..?"

"Uh-huh!" Amy chuckled cutely, "Come on, Tails! It's easy! And you won't drop her."

Tails's teeth were now exposed, showing his true horror at the image of dropping Zooey.

Tails's Vision: Zooey gets off the floor, looking upset. "I never want to speak to you again, Miles Prower!" and exits the ballroom as everyone points and laughs at Tails. He curls his twin tails around himself and lifts a leg up, cowering at their scorns…

Tails is pulled out of the horrifying nightmare as Amy turns him to the other side, "Woah!"

"Get your head in the game, Tails! I haven't even taught you the dip move yet."

"T-the what? WAHH-O!"

Amy dipped Tails, winking to him and then bringing him back, "Here's another good move." She moved a piece of his long three quills, only taking one strand, and moving it to the side. "Hehe~ That's a pretty generic one but-"

"Ohhh, enough!" Tails dropped his hands from her own and her side, moving away and tensing up.

The music screeched and he panicked at the scene he created.

Quickly grabbing a waiter's tray, he used it to avoid Zooey seeing him and pulled Amy away with him.

"I don't want fancy moves! I tried that last time and it didn't go anywhere. I just want to… I don't know… nicely slow dance with her or something." He blushed profusely, looking pretty embarrassed and upset.

"Tails…" Amy bent her eyebrows back, lowering her eyelids as guilt swarmed her being at making him even more nervous. "I never meant to-…"

"I know… You weren't trying to freak me out… I just…" he set the tray down, leaning to peek out from a pillar in the room and look fondly towards a bored looking Zooey. Her hands were holding her head up, and she sighed again.

"… I really like her, Amy…" he gripped his bowtie, swallowing. "More than anything… I don't want to mess this up…"

Amy covered her mouth, taken away by his confession.

"Oh, Tails…" her hopeless romantic kicked in, and she nodded her head, closing her eyes. "Alright… Just the easy and simple stuff." She smiled, and took Tails behind the pillar again, taking his hands but he removed them.

Stunned, she waited to see what he would do.

He took a moment to furrow his brow, thinking… and then placed his hands where he remembered they would go.

Amy's smile only widened, and she kindly taught him the basic box-step.

"Okay! You're ready!" she winked with a thumbs up as Tails gave her a double thumbs up, trying to control his breathing and fixing his buttons.

"But… there's something I still don't get." He looked over to Zooey again. "…Why is no one asking her to dance?"

"Huh?"

"I mean… we've been here a long time. Shouldn't someone have..?"

"Oh!" Amy covered her mouth again, "Could she be a secret wallflower..?"

"Huh?" he turned back to Amy.

"You know? The nice girl that no one asks to dance with… maybe she's introverted? O-or has a hard time meeting new people..? Wait, isn't that introverted?" Amy started to ramble to herself, as Tails looked back to Zooey in empathy…

This whole time… he'd been so worried about impressing her… that he didn't realize how lonely she must have felt.

He walked over, trying to not put on a show like he did before, but just be himself.

"Ehem… uh… Hey… Z-Zooey." His nerves got the better of him, and he made sure his wagging tails excitement was carefully held behind his legs and under the table… so she wouldn't see.

"Oh… Hey, Tails." She smiled, leaning up instantly and waving sweetly to him, then placing her hands down on her lap just as quickly.

He heard a thumping sound… and leaned to peek over her…

"I read your letter! I was hoping to see you here. Are you and Amy having fun?"

To his surprise… her tail was thumping the floor… just as excitedly as his hyperactive twin tails were wagging behind himself.

When she noticed his stare, she looked behind her, wondering what he was staring at and then embarrassedly swished her tail up to her lap.

"Oh! D…Doh." She looked away, blushing and squinting her eyes shut in a cute, demure of embarrassment.

His attraction to her only grew and he smiled sweetly down to her.

"…Would you like to dance?" he extended his hand to her.

Her face slowly came back around, and then…

A beautiful open-smile.

"I'd love too." she took his hand.

It was quaint, nothing fancy, but for the first time ever… he could talk with her face to face.

That's when he really did how introverted she was.

"I-…It's hard for me to hold conversations." She admitted, looking down with a bright blush that made Tails feel warm and fuzzy inside… "I've been practicing though. As I've read and replied to your letters… I told myself to be more open with you. To try and… oh, um… talk more directly and … frequently with you." Her eyes couldn't look up and hold their stare at him. She would dart them around every now and then, her smile would waver in small quakes of nervous jitters, and he could tell by how she completely let him lead that she wasn't much of a dancer herself.

"Many say I'm dull…"

"What?" Tails was broken off of his admiring and blinked his eyes rapidly. "Who would say that!?" he was genuinely shocked.

"Well… because it's hard for me to show how I'm really feeling on the outside. I guess I'm one of those… 'works in progress'… but reading about you and your friends adventures really gave me the confidence to try and come out of my shell more. I try to smile and wave for the customers, but I don't really 'talk' to them… I feel like I sometimes start chatting with the produce more than producing actual conversations…"

Tails thought her pun was the cutest thing he had ever heard, and couldn't help but laugh a little at it.

It made her duck her head down a little bit and smile up at him, making him feel like the luckiest boy in the world.

Then it hit him.

"You're not dull, Zooey… you're just…" he looked to Amy, and then-

He twirled her.

She was taken aback, spinning and then being caught in a dip. "Oh!" her cheeks turned an even brighter red than her adorable pink from before, and she stared up at his confident and honest look in his eyes.

It darn near took her breath away.

"A pearl waiting to be opened."

She felt her cheeks would fall off from how much she was smiling.

The date went well and Tails walked Zooey home, all the while talking with her and laughing at her funny food jokes.

"Thank you for inviting me, Tails. Oh! W-well, I guess you didn't really invite me b-but…" she grew nervous again, but quickly snapped out of it. "I had a lovely time. Talk to ya later!" she waved sweetly, opening her door.

"Yeah… you too." he waved back, completely entranced in her.

She giggled, peeking through the slit in the door before fully shutting it closed.

He fell back, a long, deep sigh as his tails flipped him and twirled him up into the air. He started doing swimming strokes in the air and then was pulled down by Amy, who had a cheeky look on her face.

"So? No doorstep kiss?"

He was humming a tune, completely ignoring her as he was in his own world.

"Tails?" she looked a little upset by that, raising an eyebrow before he scooped her up and started dancing with her in the air. "T-Tails!"

"Dumm~ Da-dee~ Dum-da-doo~" he sang, and she just gave in and laughed, hitting his chest.

"Okay, lover boy. Put me down." She laughed.

"Oh, Amy… I had no idea she was just as nervous as I was!" He put Amy down, looking completely ecstatic about the night. "She was just- and I was- Ahh~ Amy… If this isn't love, I don't know what is." He gripped his face, and then flew backwards again to spin and twist as though he was still dancing.

"Ohhh, you're so cute~" Amy fawned over his infacuation of the girl, and giggled when he flew straight into a tree… backwards…

"W-woah!" CRASH! "…Ow…"

"Hahhaha!"

"Hey! We should go dancing again!" he popped his head out of the tree, leaves splashing everywhere from his speedy act. "This time, I'll definitely get Sonic and Knuckles to come!"

"You better." Amy winked, "I want a cute dance partner too…"

"Haha! This is way better than coconut skiing!"

"…Coconut- what now?"

Sonic and Knuckles tumbled down the slopes, the two halves of the coconuts scaling down the side and burning as they flew, but then the crash sent them hurdling off.

"Whew! Again, again!"

"Yeah-ha!" they immerged from their landing and laughed, hands straight up in the air.

"This is a way better excuse than the last one!"

"I know, I'm glad I didn't go dancing with Amy. Can you imagine me? The fastest hedgehog in the world? SLOW DANCING!?"

The two laughed before they both got a text.

Sonic's smile completely faded and his eyes grew small as Knuckles continued to laugh.

"Hey! Amy's dancing with Tails! And Shawn! And Kevin… and George… and-" as the names kept listing, Sonic's expression kept morphing…

"Knuckles…"

"Nope, I was here. Coconut skiing. Don't you remember? Well, I'll retell it, it was a blast!"

"No!" He turned his wrist-communicator offline. "We're going dancing…"

"What!? Aw, man! Now I'll have to start counting who's dancing with Amy all over again!"
