"Now, who can tell me some of the basic principles of profitability? Ah, yes, Mr. Ross…" Harvey smirks to himself as his friend answers yet another of their professors' questions. It's not that he didn't know them, or at least a few, but Harvey would rather disappear in the back of the room than stand out amongst his peers. These classes were too simple and basic; Harvey wanted something that would thrill him. This is what led him to the bar the other night. Only thrilling things happen when he drinks and so Harvey believes that this is what he needs to do in order to keep the mundane parts still in his life.
That all changed when he met Dana Scott.
This woman is what changed everything for Harvey. He no longer went out to the bars as regularly as he did and instead, turned his attention to her. Everyone started to notice a change in his attitude. Harvey started answering more questions in class and he even campaigned to be a member of his fraternity's e-board. She was what Harvey needed to change his life around… or so he thought. Scottie, as he affectionately called her, challenged him in the best and worst ways possible. While she forced him to break out of his shell, she also started making him question his own personal morals.
"I am sorry, but I can't seem to get myself to change my major. I don't know why you want me to go the pre-law track. Do I seem like the type of guy that would become a lawyer?" Harvey and Scottie have had this argument for weeks now. She wants him to become a lawyer, she believes in his abilities. She also knows that his heart is not happy with business. "Because Harvey, you and I both know that you would be so much happier with this than going into business. Plus, we could both end up at the same law school!" Harvey knew what she wanted but he couldn't give it to her. They had hardly started dating, only for a month or so. Harvey imagined them getting married, having kids, the things that you do. The one thing he couldn't imagine them doing: going to law school together. He knew that she would thrive in that environment but Harvey couldn't bank on them going to law school together. Especially since she had her eyes set on Harvard. Harvey, on the other hand, had his eyes set on working his way through… something. He wasn't sure what, but he knew he was destined for greatness.
Scottie sighed, knowing that this was not an argument she was going to win, at least not yet. "Okay, I won't bring this up again but I want you to keep thinking about it. This could be a great change for you." Harvey knew that Scottie only had the best of intentions, but that doesn't mean she fully knew him. She only knew what she had seen in the past few months, the shy, insignificant man that she helped bring to the limelight. But Harvey had ambitions, sort of. He knew he wanted something that would knock the socks off of everyone. He knew that he was meant to be something more than a businessman, but what that was specifically, he had no clue.
"Let's go out to dinner and you can tell me all about the classes that you are taking to become a lawyer. Even if that is something that I have no interest in, I am very interested in you and what you want to do." He gave her the famous Specter smile, and a quick kiss, and out the door they went.
