Disclaimer: This is a collab fanfic made by myself and a friend of mine (mostly him).

The events of Naruto Gaiden: The 7th Hokage and the scarlet spring still happened in the context of this fic.

Certain characters' personalities/abilities/knowledge have been changed slightly or completely to better suit the story.

The Leaf village have access to text-only cellphones that only has coverage in Konoha thanks to a single cell tower all developed by Katasuke Tono

Haku Yuki is alive and well and resides in Kirigakure.

Tsunade resides in Kumogakure.

Kakashi is happily married to Anko and together they have fraternal twins Hoki and Hako Hatake.

The genin squads are all the same but with different squad leaders for all of them.(with the exception of Renga Kokubo being switched out with Shin Uchiha clone)

Boruto develops the vanishing rasengan on his own.

Orochimaru's main reason for spawning Mitsuki is for him to become a splendid example of a shinobi of Konohagakure. (NOT just Boruto)

Shizune is the Head of Konoha medical department.

Konohamaru and his squad members are ANBU.

Chapter 1

Sarada Uchiha was sitting in class staring at her secret crush, Boruto Uzumaki, who was surrounded by their classmates praising him for graduating at the top of the class. Sarada was brought back to reality when their instructor, Anko Hatake, walked into the classroom. "Quiet down ya brats!" shouted the purple haired woman. All the boys immediately quieted down, because of her looks Anko-sensei was very popular with them. Sarada rolled her eyes at their stupidity. She felt annoyed that Boruto also quieted down.

The girls were still chattering among themselves but then Boruto suddenly stood up and put his foot on his desk and screamed "HEY ARE YOU ALL DEAF!? ANKO-SENSEI SAID TO SHUT YOUR TRAPS!" In response the entire class quieted down.

Anko smirked, "Thanks Boruto." said their instructor before she blew a kiss at the blonde haired ninja which caused Boruto to grin, Sarada couldn't help but think to herself. ( DUDE it is not that crucial.) She was momentarily shamed by the small pang of jealousy she felt. All the dumb boys were crazy for Anko-sensei, did Boruto have to be just like them?

Anko cleared her throat. "The time has come to assign you to your new teams. You may have graduated from the academy but are you truly fit to be genin? Your squad leader will be the judge of that!" She told her class sternly. Sarada wondered anxiously about just who she would be partnered with. As long as it wasnt that obnoxious Inojin or his suck up lieutenant Shikadai she would be fine. With luck she'd be on a team with…..

Suddenly, an energetic shout was heard "DYNAMIC ENTRY!" followed by a silhouette of a man bursting into the classroom straight through the doors. There standing in the center of the class surrounded by the debris of the broken door was an odd looking man with gigantic eyes and bushy eyebrows, sporting a very unfashionable green jumpsuit. "Yosh! Okay, Squad 7 you're with me! I am your sensei, the handsome blue beast of the leaf, ROCK LEE!"

"LEE you idiot! MY DOOR!?" Anko sensei hollered out scornfully. Sarada couldn't believe it. (It's the blue beast himself! The legendary taijutsu master!) Metal Lee had such a cool dad. But where was HER dad?

"Ah! Sorry Anko Senpai! I just came to get my team now rather than later. I could not contain my excitement!" Lee apologized bashfully.

Anko raises a fist "Try to 'contain' your teeth in your mouth! Ugh! Just get them and GO!" Anko Sensei was VERY mad about her door and Lee's interruption. Her anger was scary to Sarada who stayed on her good side most of the time. (I wonder who's been assigned to his team?) Sarada couldn't help but wonder.

"Alright. Boruto Uzumaki, Sarada Uchiha and Mitsuki! Team 7 please come with me! Your handsome devil awaits!" Rock Lee suddenly announced. Sarada almost leaped out of her seat with excitement but managed to contain it. (CHA! Boruto as my partner and Lee sensei as my squad leader!? Double whammy!) Mitsuki wasn't a bad addition either. He had high grades and performed almost perfectly in the field. His score was just below Borutos. Sarada's team was gonna rock!

"Now wait just a damn minute!" Boruto yelled as he jumped to his feet. "First off you disrespect Anko-sensei's classroom by breaking down the door like some clown on steroids. THEN you say you're MY SQUAD LEADER? The loser Jonin who can't even use a simple ninjutsu or genjutsu! Yeah right! I'm outta here!" Boruto was not having it. Boruto's outburst shocked the class but Sarada couldn't help but notice the death glare that Metal Lee openly gave the unconcerned son of the Hokage. She was also a bit shocked and taken aback as well due to Borutos insulting a legend.

Anko Sensei placed a hand on her hip. "Sorry Boruto but I was JUST about to make that announcement. You are indeed assigned to team 7 with Sarada and Mitsuki. But don't underestimate your…..clown of a squad leader. He is a very accomplished shinobi believe it or not" She begrudgingly gave some respect to the known Jonin. Who had turned to look at Boruto with a frown.

"Boruto! I have heard of your spoiled attitude. Know that on my team it won't be tolerated. Please mind your manners." Lee spoke to Boruto respectfully but sternly. Sarada took this chance to stand up. "Don't be a brat Boruto, Lee sensei is a legend who fought with your father and mine." She signaled Mitsuki as she said this and he also stood up to go.

"Too bad Boruto! You're stuck with that dumbass broad and a weirdo for teammates!" Inojin spoke up cockily with his arms folded over his chest and an arrogant grin. Sarada ignored him; he was an idiot whose grades didn't come close to hers. He didn't matter.

"I can't believe this!" Boruto exclaimed, clearly annoyed. To him a ninja without any skill in ninjutsu wasn't even a ninja.

"Follow me to the training field Boruto and I'll prove to you I am more than worthy of being your squad leader!" Lee challenged boldly, but the genin outright refused. "I'm gonna go chew my old man out about this right now!" Boruto screamed before dashing through the door frame.

"Not so fast…" Lee proclaimed before he disappeared before everyone's eyes. But Sarada saw him. She made a dash for the doorway as well. Mitsuki was silently on her heels. He followed her outside. "Boruto!" Sarada exclaimed as she fought the temptation to run to him. The proud son of the Hokage was on the ground. His jacket and face were now dirty as he pushed himself off of the ground. Meanwhile their new sensei, Rock Lee, stood just before him with one palm face up in front of him and the other hand behind his back.

"CHEAP SHOT!" Boruto yelled, clearly infuriated. Sarada was embarrassed for him. And knew he wouldn't want anyone else to see this after what he just pulled. But after that thought her entire class spilled out of the building including Anko Sensei.

"Anyone who deems to call me sensei has to be faster than that, Uzamaki!" Lee scorned regrettably.

"You SHUT UP! You wanna piece of me loser Jonin!?" Boruto yelled. Sarada finally jumped to Boruto's side. "Come on, don't be an idiot. You can't beat the blue beast of Konoha Boruto, stop it!" Sarada really just wanted Boruto to stop; she didn't want to see him get embarrassed.

"Boruto. I'll make a deal with you." Lee offered as he put both hands behind his back. "If you can land a single hit on me, in five minutes, I'll go to Naruto myself and personally request that you be promoted to Chunin. I won't even use my hands." Lee vowed

Sarada tried in vain to strongly urge the young shinobi not to go through with this tomfoolery. But Boruto's ego ROSE. "Make it Jonin and you've got a deal!" Boruto yelled.

"This is unwise Boruto." Mitsuki advised. "Heh! You just wait and see! I'll be watching you and Sarada fight to the death in the Chunin exams!" Boruto bragged.

"Have it your way then! Attack me from any direction!" As soon as Lee's words left his lips Boruto created four shadow clones who dashed at Lee from different angles but Lee effortlessly dodged all of their attacks. Most of them without even looking. Sarada groaned as her classmates jeered and cheered around her. The obnoxious Inojin, loudest of all. "KICK HIS ASS BORUTO!" But his clones were missing every single attempted attack. Flying punches, leg sweeps Lee dodged or jumped over them all. "That's one minute Boruto!" Lee yelled with his hands still behind his back.

Boruto's clones all jumped back at once and threw multiple shuriken at Lee but to no avail he danced his way through a rain of steel undamaged. They didn't so much as graze him. Lee then performed a powerful leaf hurricane. A swift kick so powerful that the wind of it sent the steel flying at him back to Boruto's clones. They were hit with their own shurikens and dissolved in a puff of smoke.

"Ugh!" Boruto hid his next actions by staying in the smoke of his shadow clones. The son of the Hokage took something out of his pocket, threw it into his mouth and crunched on it. "Not bad, but I'm just getting started!" shouted Boruto before he formed the cross hand sign once again "Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu!" Suddenly the whole area was filled with Boruto's shadow clones. Everyone was surprised by the amount of chakra Boruto had except Chouchou who gave a knowing smirk.

Lee was actually somewhat impressed, it reminded him of the seventh Hokage himself, Naruto Uzumaki. (He really is his father's son. Even if he's a bit spoiled, the flames of youth burn bright in you Boruto Uzumaki.) Lee thought to himself as flames appeared in his eyes. "Come at me!" Lee shouted before all of Boruto's shadow clones ran towards the man with bushy eyebrows.

One shadow clone approached from the side and jumped at Lee's face but Lee dodged it by bending his spine backwards. A group of them appeared from behind to tackle Lee to the ground but the Jonin quickly responded by changing his stance and kicking all of them in one swift motion causing them to erupt in smoke. Bortuo decides to go for Lee's legs. However the blue beast jumps up and comes crashing back down on the shadow clone, stomping it into a puff of smoke. As soon as Lee lands 2 more clones try to attack him from the front however Lee jumps backwards and lands on his back before kicking upwards to dispel the clones, now above him. Boruto sees an opportunity and decides to rush Lee from all angles while he is on his back.

Lee starts spinning on his back and unleashes a flurry of kicks dispelling several clones in an instant before doing a frontflip to return to a standing position "that's two minutes!" the spandex wearing shinobi said who still hasn't broken a sweat. Boruto's class were in awe seeing the top of their class being handled so easily and began admiring Lee for his skill.

Boruto didn't like not being the center of attention. "I was saving this for a bigger stage but now I'm pissed!" screamed Boruto which caused Lee to raise a curious eyebrow. A shadow clone that was next to the real Boruto began to mold a chakra ball in Boruto's palm.

"Rasengan?" Lee questioned; clearly surprised to see a genin, fresh out of the academy, be capable of that. He also took note that it was smaller and not as bright as Naruto's.

"Yay that's right, something a loser like you will never be capable of! Now eat this!" shouted Boruto before tossing the ball at him which once again surprised the Jonin. Out of reflex Lee dodged but the ball seemingly dissipated before it would have even reached him. For a moment Lee thought he didn't even need to dodge before a hole appeared in a tree that was in the path of Boruto's attack after the Jonin moved out of the way.

Lee looked back to Boruto as he started to prepare another one of his unique Rasengan. Lee vanished in an instant and before anyone had time to process that he moved he kicked Boruto in the chest causing him to drop his Rasengan before it was fully formed. "I'm surprised your father would teach such a Jutsu to you before you even graduated from the academy. Oh, and that's 4 minutes."

Boruto took a moment to catch his breath since the wind was knocked out of him with that last attack. "Teach? *Huff*, that there was a Bourto Uzumaki original. *pant* You better believe that!" Boruto said proudly as he picked himself off the ground still panting and huffing. "Yay that's right I invented my own Ninjutsu before I even left the academy which is more than you'll ever do in your entire life!" Boruto shouted as he arrogantly pointed at Lee who was unphased. "I call it my-" Boruto started to say before Lee heard Boruto's voice behind him "VANISHING RASENGAN!" shouted a shadow clone as it threw the vanishing Rasengan at Lee's back.

Lee quickly vanished in a burst of speed and reappeared holding Boruto himself along with… Denki of all people. Everyone was confused at this but when a loud bang was heard from where the glasses wearing boy was previously standing, it became clear. Sarada looked to see a crater in the wall Denki was standing in front of. (Did Boruto… almost…) Sarada and so many others were thinking to themselves.

Lee dropped Boruto and set Denki down. "That's 5 minutes and you've failed to land a single hit on me. Your 'Vanishing Rasengan' was most impressive, but you put your fellow shinobi at risk. Most unyouthful behavior. Right now I'm not even convinced you should even become a shinobi." said Lee as he scolded Boruto for his reckless actions. Boruto who was still in shock about what almost happened shook it off and opened his mouth to try and protest. However, he was cut off by Lee's next words. "I do believe in second chances though so follow me to the training grounds and I will give you the opportunity to prove me wrong." Lee stated as he thought of his friends in the past and present. "However, this time I will be testing all three of you! Now squad 7, full speed to the third training ground!" shouted Lee before he took off at breakneck speeds.

Sarada, Mitsuki and Boruto did their best to keep up with Lee but the Jonin quickly disappeared on the horizon.

***The Third Training Ground***

Sarada, Mitsuki and Boruto arrived on the training ground puffing and wheezing only to find Lee doing handstand pushups with one hand. "407, 408, 409…" the Jonin stopped what he was doing when he noticed his prospective pupils had finally arrived. "Ah! You are here." Lee stated before he built up some pressure in his arm to launch himself high into the air. Lee did a backflip mid air and landed on his feet. "Before we go any further, I must let you know that even though you passed the genin exams and received your headbands you are not shinobi yet. You have one last test to pass before you can be accepted as shinobi and that is to display one quality that all proud leaf shinobi share."

Sarada looked puzzled. "What quality would that be?"

"Easy that is-" Lee stopped himself from answering before laughing "this is a test so I cannot give you the answer. However, I will give all of you the same challenge I gave Boruto earlier. I'll allow anyone that touches me once in the next 30 minutes to become a genin. Like last time I will not use my hands."

"What!? Lee-sensei you can't be serious… after that long sprint all the way from the academy!?"

Boruto spoke up "Yeah, Sarada's right! Why would… Oh I see this is revenge for calling you a loser Jonin isn't it!? WELL SCREW YOU! I'll tell my dad and-"

Sarada put Boruto in a choke hold "Ugh…Boruto PLEASE don't go running to your daddy.!" A turnoff she forgave Boruto for from time to time.

"As shinobi you will face more challenging tasks than this in much worse conditions and you, three, have 29 minutes left." the green spandex wearing shinobi explained. Mitsuki wasted no more time and punched a hole in the ground which confused everyone until Mitsuki's arm shot out of the ground by Lee's foot. Lee quickly jumped out of the way, but Mitsuki's arm followed him like a snake and began to chase the jonin madly with unprecedented Rock Lee was just too fast for it and even leapt away from the ground to avoid a second arm that had suddenly erupted out of it to attempt a grab at his ankle.

(NOW!) Sarada quickly told herself as she instinctively dashed to her left. Boruto followed suit dashing to his right but at an angle that would bring him closer to Lee sensei. Sarada performed hand signs faster than an eye could blink. "Phoenix flower jutsu! CHA!" Sarada quickly breathed in an expelled 9 golf ball sized fireballs aimed at Lee, while he was still in the air.

Lee began to spin suddenly to avoid Mitsuki's other hand as it tried to grab him. (!) Lee, who was surprised by the fireballs, spun even faster in midair to unleash a devastating leaf hurricane. The wind was strong enough to deflect the flames before they could touch him, but Lee still spied Boruto and 4 of his clones to his left; throwing multiple kunai right his way. The Jonin appropriately changed his body position as he fell, allowing him to narrowly dodge all the kunai aimed at himself and landed on the earth in pushup position. He then performed a single wide arm pushup and leaped up with his hands to fly over Mitsukis sneakily approaching hand.

As he landed on his feet again, the genin of team 7 and 4 clones stopped to give eachother a brief stare. (So! We're through playing!?) Sarada acknowledged after looking into her teammates eyes. All they had to do was touch this man a single time in the next 28 minutes to advance to genin rank. None of them were about to fail and go back to the academy with their heads down.

Boruto sent his clones running to Lee-sensei as his teammates prepared themselves. Mitsuki pulled his arms all the way out the ground and back to himself. Boruto's clones surrounded Lee from four different angles. All at once they grabbed kunai with explosive tags on them and grinned maliciously as they ignited the tags with the intent to only throw them seconds before exploding. "What's this!?" Lee thought out loudly as the clones threw their kunai. He narrowly escaped the range of the sudden four way blast.

Sarada quickly dashed after Lee to catch him with her Sharginan active which made eye contact with Lee as he glanced at her. Sarada smirked as her new sensei diverted his gaze. (Too late!) She mused silently as she went in for the kill. However, Rock Lee had bitten his tongue the second he realized he'd been placed under genjutsu. He then turned his head to dodge a kick from an oncoming Sarada still looking away from her eyes but watching her body movements.

"Hm. Needs work, but good, I like it!" Lee said before Sarada had the wind knocked out of her by a very sudden spinning back handed fist into her hip that sent her spiraling off.

Pain shot out throughout Saradas body. "Augh!" But she flipped herself in time to catch her feet on a tree while taking in a big breath. At that time Lee had to sidestep a snake made of lightning as it dashed his way. The Jonin instructor dashed to confront Mitsuki who was surprised by his speed and took a jab right to his face, hard enough to put him on his behind.

Lee turned to face his third possible prospect "Well Boruto, I expected the son of the Hokage to protect his friends a bit better than this!" Lee couldn't help but taunt the over confident youth.

Boruto grew agitated "You shut up! Water release: Surging Sea!" The Blond roared as he expelled a large blast of water from his mouth. Boruto was a bit closer than Lee had perceived, but it mattered not. He danced around the blast of water and circled around Boruto to deliver a hard stinging palm to the middle of his back. The booming POP sound it emitted could be heard for miles. "AHHHHHH!" Boruto's eyes rolled into the back of his head as his body bent back in pain.

Without giving Lee even a split second to relax Sarada was coming at him again. Lee realized with amusement that these kids weren't gonna give him a break and they worked kind of well together. (Young and talented! The youth of my team burns brightly together!) He played with his prospects for a bit longer, not allowing them to land anything and striking them hard at his leisure. But they kept coming at him with quick plans built on their team instincts and their trust in one another. The end came when Lee backstepped from a fireball that Sarada had fired from his side. He stepped into a shallow hole that Mitsuki had left for him merely deep enough to trap his leg knee deep. Boruto lept at him with his final fury of clones plus himself, Lee responded by jabbing each of the clones and Boruto himself. Sarada unleashed her multiple shuriken jutsu at him and as Lee tried to dodge Mitsuki wrapped both of his encroaching arms around each of his sensei's legs, trapping him. "No!" Lee had gasped as he tripped sideways and weaved one direction but was still scratched with just 3 shuriken.

"Sideways slam!" Mitsuki screamed out as he went to slam his sensei in the direction he'd already been falling. Rock Lee hit the dirt with a hard thunk.

"Yes! We did it!" Sarada exclaimed, jumping in the air with her fist high above her head. She was so shocked her heart had been thumping the whole time. She hadn't suspected that her shuriken would even land as she expelled the last of her stamina hoping Mitsuki or Boruto would get him shortly after. All 3 of the new genin were breathing hard from them going to their limits. Mitsuki had released Rock Lee from pure relief.

Their sensei got to his feet with a smile. "Congratulations! You pass!" He gave them a thumbs up and they rejoiced in response.

"Only 2 minutes to spare!" Mitsuki added, bent over with his hands on his knees.

"Sensei! What was that!?" Boruto complained.

"What do you expect, Boruto! After your rudeness too! This was YOUR fault!" Sarada went off on him but in a good nature.

"Guy Sensei, at times youth has to be humbled and tamed. This was one of those times. Hopefully you have all learned from this!" Rock Lee told his squad.

"Yes Sensei!" The 3 of them quickly saluted him with newfound admiration and respect.

"Good…..now your training can officially begin! 200 laps around the village!?" At their sensei's announcement the newly ranked genin fell on their faces.

Sarada grunted and squealed at her unnecessary face damage.(He's kidding right? The famous Rock Lee the comedian of Konoha! Hehehehe.) She hoped, futility.

"Sensei, I apologize for my rude comments earlier! Please, stop punishing us with these ungodly exercises!" Boruto spoke up from the ground desperately.

Lee smiled at his new charge, "Do not be so hard on yourself Boruto you'd already been forgiven! Now get started on those 200 laps! Youth does not wait!"

Without further ado Cell 7 got to their feet rather reluctantly to begin the day's training. As Sarada ran around the village with her teammates she reminded herself of something. (I WILL become HOKAGE one day! Whatever it takes! Nothing will stand in my way!) "Cha" She uttered under her breath as she smiled and ran ahead of the boys.
