Prompt—

"You're not hurt, are you?"

"Ah…ahhhh..!" Amy's eyes were in swirls when this big, fluffy guy she had met a little while back leaned closer towards her face and checked to make sure the Gaia monsters didn't hurt her.

"I-I'm honestly fine!" she 'eep'd and scooted away, blushing and covering her face.

She hadn't seen Sonic… no matter how long she searched and how much her friend said he would help, they never found any trace of him.

"Cheer up, Amy. I'm sure your hero will show up soon." Chip, her friend's companion, gave an odd look to him before he returned his smirk with a stink-eye.

He stuck out his tongue to him and pulled his eyelid down, but with a claw, that looked like it could have been painful to pull off.

"I really do appreciate all the time you have put into helping me travel safely to find Sonic." She giggled, seeing the two start making faces at each other, not realizing what they were fighting about. "But I'm sure I'll find Sonic. It's destiny, after all." She put her hands together like a prayer, closing her eyes and nodding.

Sonic and Chip looked to each other slowly…

"I'm sure… he's around here somewhere." The burly man scratched behind his head, "Until then, maybe you should go home."

"No way!" her declaration spooked the two boys, flinching back.

"W-why not?" Chip flew forward, his little wings fluttering behind him with light flaps. He circled her, gesturing his arms out in front of himself as he spoke. "Don't you think it'll be a lot safer there?"

"Of course I do, Chip. But nowhere's safer than by my Sonic!" she chimed, and the big, almost monster looking hedgehog groaned and looked away from her, making her confused.

She tilted her head innocently, not realizing this was Sonic in his werehog form.

Chip, once again, mentally scolded Sonic as he narrowed his eyes at him from behind her. He put his hands on his hips and leaned forward, obviously against him keeping his identity from her. "Yeah, imagine that. No place safer than in your hero's arms~" when she turned around, he acted cute and placed his hands together by his cheek. "My… you must really like this 'Sonic' guy, huh?" He leaned into her face, eager to get more of a confession from her in front of her 'true love' but Sonic reached out and plucked him up away from her face with his thumb and pointer finger.

"That's enough, Chip." Sonic's grumbled voice mingled with his new physique's look.

As Chip squirmed, Amy nodded and suddenly looked down from sitting on her raised, semi-wall of cobblestone.

"…I just wish… I could see him more often. He's so busy saving the world all the time. I hate to think I'm a bother to him… only a … distraction." She rubbed her eye, growing a bit sad.

Sonic was unfamiliar with seeing Amy get so sad suddenly—and especially about him—in front of himself before.

This took him by surprise as he turned back to her, his eyes showing his true concern at seeing her loneliness so vividly alive and real now. "Amy…"

Chip stopped struggling to look at Sonic's face, then down at Amy's.

His face turned to one of a devil's grin, and with a sneer, he pointed his finger up, elongating his legs down and tightly together with his toes sticking up—very matter-of-factly.

"Hey! I know! Why don't we meet you again and keep losing for this Sonic guy, huh?"

Sonic turned his head to Chip again, shaking him lightly, "That's enough, Chip…" he repeated his previous line but this time hissed it through closed teeth, whispering it threateningly into Chip's ear. He wasn't really going to hurt his friend, but he was embarrassed as is at being a monster in front of her, he didn't want Chip to make it even worse…

"You'll be a lot safer with him around!" Chip pushed back and kicked Sonic's fingers off of himself, freeing his little body from his hold and happily flying up to Amy again. "I've got some things to look into anyway with Professor Pickle. Boring stuff. You'd die of information overload!" he overdramatically mimed dying in a chair, his tongue sticking out, before popping back alive and spreading his arms out wide towards Sonic. "My friend here, you can call him…uhh…" Chip looked over Sonic's new form, as Sonic put the back of his hands to his hips, not happy about Chip's improvising schemes. "Oh! I got it! Beast!" He excitedly snapped his fingers and then bravely helped Amy up, pulling her hand up and smiling friendly to her before tugging her quickly up to Sonic.

The two were a bit spooked that the distance between them was momentarily cut thin, like paper in fact, as Amy and his belly were directly touching now.

"Uhhh…" the two stared at each other, having a little bit of awkward nerves.

"We've been helping you for a few nights, anyways! If you're so adamant about sticking around…" Chip swayed his body left and right, holding his hands behind his back as he flew around Sonic's back, coming around his shoulders as though trying to convince him to stay with her.

"…I… I guess that makes sense." Amy smiled to the Beast, who looked exceptionally surprised she would agree to this.

"Wha-what?" He pulled himself back, then cupped Chip lightly in his large, clawed hand. "A word, Chip?"

Chip and him went behind a corner, as Sonic looked back to see Amy a bit confused, daintily standing in the street light and deciding to look around to give the two a moment.

"What are you thinking, Chip? What are you even doing?" Sonic began, keeping his voice down, but it was already low, to begin with. "Amy's missing Sonic, her hero, the real me. Not some… Beast…" He looked himself over, his melancholy really starting to bum Chip out.

"Excuses here, excuses there." Chip bobbed his head around, rolling his eyes. "Come on, Sonic! You even said so yourself! You've never seen Amy this real and genuine than when she's normally speaking to the—Beast." Chip put a hand up to cover the sound of his words and leaned up closer to Sonic, winking. "If she really loves you, don't you think she'll start to recognize you? Before she does, wouldn't you like to learn everything you could never ask her as Sonic? This is a great chance for you two to really get to know each other! The real you. Deep within." He placed his hands over each other on Sonic's heart, tilting his head and trying to desperately convince him this was the right choice.

"…Aren't you just… hooked to the fact that Amy's non-stopped talked about me?" Sonic gestured a hand out, calling Chip out. "Honestly, I can't tell if you're trying to be a good friend, cupid, or something…"

Chip flew back, swooning and fanning a hand out. "I'll admit, though her loving speeches did make a hopeless romantic out of me as well," He began before spinning around and flying right back up to Sonic, eager as ever. "I still think you can make this work! She can see you for you really are, not just the hero stigma, and you in return can see her as the really cute girl she actually is!" he exploded his little body out in an excited and gleeful spring with his hands and legs sticking straight out. "Doesn't that sound like something you'd like to try!? Well? Doesn't it?"

Sonic crumbled up his face and looked away, "Chip…" He was really putting him in an awkward situation.

"Pllleeeasse?" Chip blinked his eyes up at Sonic, pleading with his hands together in a prayer-like way to mimic Amy's own. "I promise I won't journey far! I'll just eat cucumber sandwiches with Professor Pickle for a while till you two can have a real heart to heart! Honest, I will!" his eyes sparkled with the secret love story he was forging, silently hoping Sonic would reveal who he truly was to Amy, leading her to realize the big, lovable lug was actually her one and only in disguise!

Sonic side-glanced back at Chip, then itched his nose and seemed to be thinking about it.

"You'll still have time to get to Dark Gaia too. Cross my heart." Chip nodded, as Sonic finally gave in.

He sighed, letting his arms drop, "I hope you know what you're doing, Chip…" Sonic walked back out to Amy.

"Let's go look for this,… Sonic guy." He felt awkward fibbing to her, but it was to protect his image of himself that was still in her mind… and even her heart.

Her gleeful expression broke out and left him a bit uneasy, but she took his arm and started to drag him teetering down the street.

"Oh good! I have a feeling Sonic's down this way! O-or this way! But besides that, I'm never wrong!" she spoke with complete confidence as the Beast had a bit of sweat fall down the side of his face.

"Whatever you say, Miss…" he wearily stated, allowing her to string him along.

After a few nights~ The two came to a night lit, public garden as Amy strolled along the side, letting her hands move through the weeping willows dangling vines and giggling at the ticklish feeling she felt with them.

She put a hand up to her mouth and bundled it to a soft fist, swaying her body back and forth as Sonic looked elsewhere.

When she noticed he was being rather silent this night, as… most other nights… she decided to pick up conversation.

She looked away, "So…" she swayed her arms out, "Do you have a girl waiting for you too?" she inquired, turning her body to blink up at him innocently from below, looking over her shoulder.

He turned to see her again, slightly taken out of his thoughts but recovering quickly. "Hmm..? Oh… uh… Not really." He folded his arms, looking back up at the stars in the sky. "My purpose… I guess you could say… is to stop Dark Gaia from ripping this world apart. I don't really have time to think about anything else." He had been collecting Sun and Moon medals thanks to Chip picking up notes from the townspeople and Professor Pickle. He would see Amy after a few run-throughs of different courses and even brought her a chocolate sundae not too long ago.

It was late now though, no shop was open today and he wasn't even sure this garden was open either.

"Oh… I see." She peered down into the water, lifting her foot back to poke the ground and let her toe wiggle into it, shyly.

He had never seen her like this before… the way she gently held herself, didn't jump at him or provoke any declaration of love from him. It was… serene and … nice.

"Aren't the stars prettier from the water's surface?" Amy commented, looking back up at him and scooting closer, pointing to them. "I bet if you stuck your finger in there, you could make them all dance in the sky!" she giggled, reaching for his arm.

He stared in a strange awe of her, feeling her hands weave through his matted fur and lift his large arm up.

She smiled to him as if making sure this was okay, and then dipped his finger into the water.

Sure enough, the gentle ripples caused a little chaos, waving the water's surface to cause the reflection of the stars to dance as Amy foretold.

Her mouth opened in delight, "Pretty!" she exclaimed and laughed up towards him. "Sonic would be too nervous to let me touch his arm." She moved closer and let her head rest there, so short compared to him now.

His head dipped down, observing her, but looked away in embarrassment. His eyes darted around, "This Sonic guy… sounds like he doesn't spend an awful lot of time with ya."

"…No…" she held his arm… silently looking at the water as it began to find some stability. "It's never seemed so long… since I last held his arm and we've walked together… much like this." She lifted her head and looked off to the walkway.

Sonic saw her line of sight and began to gesture for her to start strolling.

She blinked and appreciatively smiled up at him, then began to lead the way as they walked side-by-side together down the beautiful garden.

"So many colors… what's your favorite color, Beast?" She asked, looking up at him.

"…I don't really know." He stated, twitching every time she called him that. "I guess I like the blues."

"Ah! Me too!" Amy jumped a little in excitement. "They always remind me of Sonic! The way the petals stick out like quills!" she seemed to catch herself having a good time and paused, her face still showing joy even though her eyes were now having a very different emotion.

"…What about pink?" To snap her out of it, he tried to redirect her back to the conversation.

"S-sorry… I like those ones too. All the flowers are beautiful here… with me and…" she looked back up at him, but her eyes kept lingering down and then looking up.

She slowly began to release his arm, "It's just different… without Sonic, I don't know what to do. I've always been able to find him… he's always on my mind, but now…" she shifted away, holding herself, but Sonic interpreted this as being cold.

"Oh, uhh…" he swung his massive self around, looking for something to warm her.

When he couldn't find anything, he looked at his hands, and nervously placed them on her shoulders.

She flinched, seeing his action entirely different than just his intention to keep her warm.

She lightly looked at his large arms around her, her breathing growing faint with deep, quiet rushes of tense surprise from the sweet and gentle touch. His fur was warm, but it was also comforting.

She pulled her shoulders up, feeling some heat on her cheeks at his consideration of her needs.

"I'm sure he believes your safe." Sonic stated, "But I'm also sure he'd want you to safe at home by now. We've been searching for quite a while now, and I'm pretty sure I've found all the things I needed here in this city."

Her head suddenly shot upward and she turned around, "You're leaving..!?" she looked flustered and worried. "W-where will you go?" she stepped up to him, panic in her eyes but a sweet longing in them as well. "M-maybe Sonic traveled there! I-I-I'll go with you." She placed her hands on either side of him, and for a moment, he felt a strange peace and happiness at having her wanting to be with him so badly.

"W-wha?" He lifted his arms up, not sure what to make of this. "But… what about your Sonic? I-I mean… your hero." He lowered his arms, his eyes showing his confusion as Amy looked down and moved herself closer to him.

"…W-well… it's clear we've searched the whole city for him… and you like my company… don't you?"

Her eyes peered up since the angle was rather intense due to their size difference, he could see the stars shining in them…

The wind picked up at their silent but impactful staring into one another's eyes, causing the flowers to rainbow the air all around them.

"…I…" Sonic couldn't believe he was about to answer her. What was he thinking?

He shook his head, lowering his arms and adjusting his balance, but not stepping away. "I-I just figured you wanted to stay and look for him a bit longer."

She moved her head down but kept her eyes on his. "Sonic's never spent this much time with me before… and I'm having such a good time with you… and even with Chip… I figured… hey! We're such good friends! Why not… I don't know maybe… try and help Sonic by stopping Dark Gaia… together." She blushed and moved herself further into his chest and belly, rubbing lightly against the fur and making an odd sound of delight. "Hehe~ You really are super warm, Beast!" she cheered.

Again, Sonic flinched.

"That's-" he sucked in some air. "That's not my name." He admitted as Amy pulled away and tried to look into his eyes again.

This time, he skipped the eye contact.

He was suddenly annoyed.

He gently moved her aside and walked on, quickly getting back on the path. "Ughh…" He groaned, seeming to be upset about something.

"B-Beast?" She didn't understand but quickly trotted after him.

"You should stay and look for Sonic." It was a bit to the point and sounded like he was fed up with her, which wasn't entirely his intention.

She was a little taken aback by his rudeness and stopped trying to match his pace, fidgeting behind him like someone being turned to stone.

"S-stay…" she muttered, "But what about you?"

"What about me?" Sonic turned around, gesturing an arm out. "You have your hero. What's a pretty girl like you wanting to go off with some… some…" He angrily looked at his hands, the sharp claws on them, "…Freak like me." He continued on, "A beast." He almost hissed out again with a dry growl.

She froze then…

"Maybe this pretty girl is tired of chasing a blur!"

His foot felt like lead as it stopped on the pavement. His whole body jerked suddenly as he felt he had stepped in iron glue of some kind.

His eyes grew wide.

"Sonic… he never asked about my day." She looked fierce in her face, throwing her arms down in insulted or offended frustration, balling up her hands and trying to make him listen. "Sonic never walked through a garden with me, or got me chocolate sundaes, or… or even lets me stroll with him arm in arm!" she hollered out, but she was unknowingly stabbing thrown knives into his back.

His eyes fluttered around like dying sparrows…

"Sonic… he's… he's not here. I gave up on that. But you're here… and if you go… if you go then I'll really be unsure of who to follow." She put her hand up to her heart. "You're real. You're here. But most importantly you're here for me!" she stepped boldly up, touching his back. "Please… if I can't keep up with Sonic… at least let me be able to keep up with…

You."

Sonic wildly flung his arms about.

"No!"

She was flung back, crying out as she fell to the ground. "Beast!" she looked afraid, withdrawing herself from him on the ground as he turned around.

There was such pain in his eyes… his whole face looked angry, but it didn't seem to be about her…

"Don't say those things to me. Don't say you're feeling anything more with me than you do with him!" he felt something, something sharp pierce his heart when he saw the fear in her eyes.

"I don't want you to follow me. I want you to follow him. I want you to find him. And enough of this—BEAST!"

He took off with his arm expanding to a nearby light post, he had never heard Amy speak this way about him before, and it hurt to realize that he was learning all too much about her.

He didn't want to know this part. This wasn't his intention at all.

His intention…

Why was he always pushing time aside from saving the world to go on a hopeless errand with her?

He swung quickly away, hearing her call for him.

He felt something liquid on his eyes, seeping through his dark blue fur.

He shook it from him, feeling the fangs on his lip stick out slightly and remembering what form he had.

His eyes widened, "Oh no..!" He must have looked horrifying in front of her. As Sonic, his actions wouldn't have seemed as bad but now-!

He quickly made a beeline back to the garden, finding her there on her knees with her face buried in her hands, sobbing…

Crying…

He could hear her crying.

He landed directly beside her, reaching out for her. "Amy… Amy, I'm sorry. Don't be afraid… I didn't mean too… I didn't mean to frighten you… Amy…"

The sun began to rise.

"Amy, it's okay. I'm here… I won't hurt you. I'd never let anything hurt you. Amy… Amy, please don't hate me. I'm right here. I'm always here. It's me. Your…"

He felt the darkness begin to withdraw inside his soul, he twitched back and flinched. 'Oh no… I didn't realize… I'm-!'

He began to make strange noises of discomfort, leading Amy to look up from her hands and gasp.

The Beast she had come to care about fumed in a pyre of black and purple, shifting into a figure she knew all too well.

A person she loved.

"S…Sonic?" Her eyes were red from her immense tears, but the emotions soon dried up when she got up, stepping towards him.

He turned around, looking at his former fangirl and realizing who she really was now.

"I'm…" he started, "I'm sorry." He looked away, "I should have told you sooner, I just… I've never seen you… in this… way…" he was a bit cautious when she staggeringly approached him, touching his chest, his arms,… then put a hand to his cheek.

"Are you… the Beast?" she asked.

He stared gently into her eyes, a pool of miserable compassion flooding their surface. "No." he stated, "The Beast was me."

She pulled back a moment, covering her shocked and open mouth with her hand before smacking him on the side of his cheek.

"Ah..!" he stumbled to the side from the impact of the hit. "A-Amy, what gives-?"

"I'll tell you what gives! This whole time I've been terrified that I could be falling for another man!"

Her anger was justified, but Sonic couldn't believe it. "You…" He sharply turned back to her, amazed. "You were falling… for me?"

He looked over himself, as if still seeing the werehog draped over his heroic being. "As that thing?"

She scoffed as if offended he would say that. "That thing cared about me! We searched for you! Night after night! I talked with him, he listened, he spoke back and we laughed together, ate together, I…" she stopped herself from fully confessing everything. She looked to him with such powerful indignation that Sonic felt his whole body twinge with guilt.

"…Then let me say it." When she spoke not a word, he bent down and picked up a flower that had drifted off the trees and into the walkway. The entire path was covered in petals or flowers that were stripped from the garden by the massive windstorm a few moments ago, only making his outburst even more terrifying as the wind carried his roar previously.

"Amy… I've never known the real you. And after getting to know you as the Beast?" He shrugged, "I don't think I ever want to not know the real Amy. She's amazing! She's fun and exciting. She's compassionate and hardworking. She's positive and endearing. I've always felt like the one saving others, but you save people just by telling them things that make them feel good about themselves." He held the flower up, admiring it before her and then looking back to her shocked expression. "I had a complex, you know. And I think you cured most of it by that confession just now. Don't worry, my jealousy over the Beast will dwindle in time, but for now-" he slowly brought the flower before her face, staring at it fondly. "I want you to fall back into Sonic again… This time… knowing the real me, too." He looked up into her eyes, but her disposition looked off. He tried not to focus on it.

"Sonic… I can't." she stepped away.

"W-what?" he dropped the flower.

"I… I made up my mind last night." She worriedly clutched her heart, "Dang it, Sonic! I was going to leave with the Beast tonight! If he'd have taken me… if you'd have continued the charade I… I was planning on choosing him!"

Now Sonic's entire frame shook a moment as he fell to one knee. "You… you mean you actually…" he felt his mouth grow dry as the sun lingered further into the sky, as though prolonging itself, not wanting to disturb the lover's quarrel. ("Dang, Mr. Moon has all the good drama channels!" –Says Sun, "I'm upcoming up on the finale, bummer dude!")

Amy lowered her head, almost ashamed to speak it but nodded.

Sonic thought about it a moment, "How could you… ever love a beast?" he looked up at Amy, "I thought you were just caring about him, not…" he shook his head, standing up. "That doesn't matter. Amy,… After I defeat Dark Gaia… I won't be the Beast anymore, physically… but that was just me!" He lowered himself to her mercy, spreading his arms out wide as if wanting desperately to bring her close again… the way she would pull herself up next to himself when he was the beast.

"I can't believe I'm saying this but…" He faltered a moment, stepping rapidly up to her, but seeing her deny him by turning her head away again, he paused his approach. "But the beast isn't real… I'm real." He placed a hand over himself, stepping again with much more bravery this time. "I'm here now… remember? Just like you said." He ducked his head down, trying to see her expression, but her eyes were closed.

"I'm sorry I deceived you, Amy. I thought you would see me differently, only as a monster…" he looked away, shaking his fist slightly, before snapping out of his complexes and trying to allow Amy to heal him. "I make mistakes, it's what heroes do. But don't quit on me just because I look any different." He looked to her hand…

"Amy… It's me. The Beast is Sonic. I'm Sonic. I'm…" but as he went for her hand… his confidence dropped, and he fell into misery.

He was starting to let his hand drop and pull away, turn his head before she grabbed it, charging into him and crying into his arms.

"You better mean it, Sonic! You better buy me chocolate sundaes and walk along garden paths with me! You better! You better meet me in the day and night and never think that your looks outweigh the good in you! You better be Sonic the Beast in character or else! Or else I'll dream of the beast instead of you, you idiot! Whhha-hhha-haaa!"

Sonic… slowly raised a hand to her back…

Then another hand around her waistline…

Then…

Fully pulled her towards him and gripped her head.

"Always." He swore, holding her tenderly close as Chip 'happy danced' in a tree a little ways off. "Always."

When he looked up and saw Chip, he gasped and bit his teeth together, "Chip!"

"H-huh?" Amy pulled away, looking behind her as the flowers and powerful wind had once concealed the little spy, but now, with it being mostly bare, he was forced out of hiding.

He stopped dancing and froze, trying to grab a branch with plain leaves on it and conceal himself again. He gulped.

(I hope I got what you wanted, it's subtle but sooo good /w/ At least, I squealed lol. Enjoy~)
