Chapter Three: Accusations and Bad Press

"Sidney, is that you in there? " Gale tries to intervene, as Dewey drives away. "Excuse me is that Sidney Prescott they took away?"

"We're not talking to you." Tatum tells her, as she tries to ambush us.

"What happened to her? I heard something about a costume is that true? Can you tell me anything?"

"Yeah, you're a real pain in the ass." Tatum says, as we pile into her car.

We follow Dewey to the police station. They were able to pull right in front of the building, we had to find the residential parking. Making our way across the street the media was already in front of the building. Sidney is just stepping out of the car with Dewey before any of the press get out of their vans. We follow closely behind.

When we enter, Sidney gets pulled into a different room. We asked if she wanted us in there with her, but she said no. I'm looking around the station and everyone is busy or looking busy. The phones were ringing, and papers were shuffling all around.

I looked up to the Sherriff's office and noticed him. Billy was looking out of the bull pen looking around. Probably looking for Sidney no doubt. I was staring at him trying to figure him out, when he noticed me. He narrows his eyes at me, then slightly acknowledged a hello with his hand, lifting only a few fingers. I do the same.

I hear a door open and look over to the room, Sidney was walking out of. She still looked shaken up. Tatum walks over to her as the sheriff sits her down and he walks up to his office. Sidney looks where he is going and catches Billy looking at her. She immediately looks down.

"Did you find him?" Sidney asks, looking to Dewey.

"You sure it was the Hilton?"

"At the airport."

"He's not registered there. Could he have stayed somewhere else?"

"I don't know, I guess." Sid shrugs.

"Don't worry Sid. We'll find him. I'll be right back."

"Everything okay, Sid?" I ask.

"They can't find my dad."

I give her a comforting rub on the shoulder.

"Don't worry, Sid, Dewey's right. They'll find him."

"Sid, we're going to get you out of here, okay? Are you okay?" Tatum asks.

Sid nods. Tatum starts to pace around behind Sid, as I sit in front of her. It's been about twenty minutes now and we were still waiting. For what exactly, not sure.

"Oh, come on!" Tatum shouts, getting tired of waiting.

"Sid, talk to me."

We turn to the direction where Billy is being escorted away and in handcuffs. As he gets closer to Sidney, he tries to lean over, but the officers holding him wouldn't let him get close.

"Sid, come on. You know it wasn't me. Sidney!" Billy yells, being escorted away by the two officers.

I look to Sid feeling bad as she looks, too uncomfortable to look at him.

"Hey, Dewey can we go yet?" Tatum asks, marching over to Dewey.

"Just a minute." Dewey tells her.

"God damnit Dewey."

She's starting to make a scene with her older brother. I really feel bad for Dewey at times. Even though, I like to hang out with Tatum all the time. The way she treats her older brother is, annoying. I wish I had an older brother like Dewey.

"What did mom tell you? When I wear this badge, you treat me as a man of the law. "

She has told her once or twice.

"I'm sorry Deputy-Dewey-Boy but, we are ready to go now, okay?" She shouts out.

"Whoa!" Other officers were laughing at them now.

Tatum helps Sid up and throws Dewey's jacket at him. We were about to go through the front, when the sheriff stops us. "Take them out the back way to avoid that circus out there." He says, referring to the press.

"Come on." Dewey grabs Tatum's arm.

"Don't touch me." She shrugs him off.

"That was my superior." He argues.

"The janitor's your superior." Sidney, Tatum, Dewey and I come out of the Police Station in a dark alley. Dewey makes sure the door shuts quietly to not attract anyone from out front.

"You guys stay here, I'm going to get the car. Don't move, don't make a sound."

We nod at him. Tatum is comforting Sidney as best as she can. When I thought about something.

"Hey Tate, what about your car?" I ask her.

"We'll pick it up in the morning." She explains. Good thing I already had my things with me. Just as Dewey rounded the corner with his car into the alley, we were spotted by none other than, Gale Weathers.

"Great. Can't she ever give it a rest." I said annoyingly.

Tatum and Sidney notice who I was referring too as they turned

around.

"There she is, Sidney!"

Yeah, why not yell out to the whole freakin press why don't you.

"Hi! That's some night. What happened? Are you alright?" She asks, in her fakish voice.

"She's not answering any questions. Just leave us alone." I tell her, stepping in front of my cousin and friend.

This was so unlike me. I hated the press. But what I hate the most is when people try to bud in other people's business. Sidney pushes through Tatum and me towards Gale. She looked pissed and annoyed.

"No Tiffany. It's okay. She's just doing her job. Right Gale?" Sidney asks.

She still sounded annoyed, but it went right over the presses head.

"Yes, that's right."

"How's the book?"

"Well, it'll be out later this year."

"I'll look for it." Sidney turns to leave.

"I'll send you a copy!"

Before we can stop her, Sidney turns around and punches Gale straight in the face. Gale falls backwards and her camera man had to catch her. Flashes of the cameras were starting to go all around.

"Jeez. Nice Shot." Gale's camera man said.

"Nice one Sid." I tell her.

"Bitch." Sidney whispers.

We made it to my cousin's house in no time. Tatum all the way here, was so thrilled with what Sidney did to Gale. I was too, but not that much. Sidney, the girl we thought would never hurt a fly, punched a famous news reporter in the face, in front of a dozen cameras.

Tatum had two twin beds in her room. My aunt had a blow-up twin mattress for me to sleep on the floor. I didn't mind, wouldn't have minded either way.

"God, I loved it "I'll send you a copy" BAM bitch went down! "I'll send you a copy" BAM, Sid, Super Bitch! You are so cool!" Tatum bashes.

There was a knock on the door as Dewey enters the room.

"I thought you might want some ice for that right hook." He says, throwing an ice pack to her.

"Thanks."

"I'll be right next door. Try to get some sleep."

Tatum makes a face at him.

"Night Dewey."

"Night Tiff."

He leaves, shutting the door behind him.

"Do you really think Billy did it?" I asked Sid.

"He was there guys." She turns over, her back facing us.

"He was destined to have a flaw; I knew he was too perfect." Tatum says.

She noticed me giving a 'really' type, look to her, she just shrugs her shoulders. Just then, my aunt enters the room.

"Telephone honey."

"Who is it?" Tatum asks

"It's for Sid." She spoke.

"Take a message."

"I'll get it. My dad?" Sidney asks

"I don't think so."

Sidney walks out of the room to get the phone. We look at one another.

"How's she doing?" My aunt refers to Sidney.

We indicate we're not sure. Just then we hear Sidney in distress.

"NO!"

We immediately get up and run out to the hall.

"Leave me alone." Sidney yells in the phone.

"Who are you!?"

My aunt runs to Dewey's door.

"Dewey!"

"Hang up Sid!" We tell her.

Sid hangs the phone up and we were comforting her back to Tatum's room, as Dewey comes out of his room.

"What?" He asks.

"What, really?" Tatum questions Dewey.

I noticed he was carrying his firearm, looking around frantically. We get Sidney back into the room. Tatum's mom told us she'll make hot chocolate, but Sidney said she was fine. We stayed up for another hour, before Tatum turned off the lights and we settle down for the night.

Being awoken by a loud blaring alarm first thing in the morning is something, I'll never get used to. We were still laying down, when there was a knock on the door.

"Hey girls, I made breakfast if you're hungry."

"Thanks mom, we'll be down in a sec." Tatum says, still sounding tired.

We finally decided to get up and go down to eat first before getting dressed. Before I could walk out of the room, my cell phone rings. Confused of who it might be, this early in the morning, I told the girls I'll be down in a minute. I pick up my phone.

"Hello?"

"Tiff, are you, okay?" It was Stu on the other end.

"Stu? Yeah, I'm fine," I hear him sigh of relief. "Why, are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Randy called my folks last night and left them a message for me to get this morning. He said that Sidney, was attacked. Just wanted to make sure you were okay."

I smile at his concern for me.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I didn't show up till after the attack. I got there late."

I hear him sigh in relief.

"You're at Tatum's, right?"

"Mhm."

"Alright, are you coming to school today?"

"I'll be there."

"Alright, I'll see you later then."

"Bye."

Smiling, I go downstairs and rounding the corner form the stairs to small kitchen I was hearing the television.

"Sidney Prescott escaped a vicious attack last night. Sidney is the daughter of Maureen Prescott who was brutally killed last year by convicted murderer, Cotton Weary, broke into their home and savagely raped and tortured the deceased,"

I sit down at the table next to Sidney. My aunt sat a plate of eggs and toast in front of me. I was too distracted by the television to immediately start eating.

"Cotton Weary, is now waiting appeal for the death sentence handed down by young Sidney after she testified against him. She was the key witness in the state's case against..."

Before she could say anything else, the television was turned off.

"It's never going to stop, is it?" Sid asks.

Tatum and I look over at our friend and putting a hand on her knee for comfort. I pick up a piece of toast and spread butter on it.

"Billy was released his cellular phone bill was clean, he didn't make those calls," Dewey explains. "We are checking every cellular account in the county. Any calls made to you, or Casey Becker, are being cross-referenced. It's gonna take some time."

We look at Sidney.

"You, okay?" Tatum asks.

She nods. We eat breakfast and go upstairs to get ready for school. I use the bathroom to get dressed, throwing my outfit on that I picked from the previous night at home. It was going to be a little warmer weather later tonight. I looked at my hair deciding if to put it up, but I decided to leave my hair down. Stu says, he likes it down anyway. I also put on light mascara as always.

I get out of the bathroom, after brushing my teeth and hair. Sidney goes in next, followed by Tatum. Dewey was able to take us to school that morning, since Tatum left her car at the police station parking lot. Sidney sat up front, while Tatum and I took the back seats. Dewey pulled up to the school and got out of his seat and opened the door for us.

"Don't worry, Sid. It's school you'll be safe here." Dewey reassures her.

We start to walk up to the school when unfortunately, obnoxious reporters are running up to us and started to ask Sidney questions.

"So, how's it feel to be almost brutally butchered?" Someone bluntly asks.

"Leave her alone!" Dewey shouts, getting in front of us and pushing the press aside to let us get through.

"We have a right to know."

"Leave her alone."

"How does it feel?"

"They just want to get an education." Dewey argues, trying to shove the press pout of our way.

We start walking to the school again, when Sidney sees someone and stops us.

"What?" We ask.

"Just a sec."

Sidney walks away from us. I follow her to see where she is going. I was a little surprise to see she was going straight towards, Gale. Wonder what this is going to be about. We follow her, just in case she needs us.

"Stop right there." Gale says, pointing her finger up.

"I'm not here to fight, I need to talk." Sidney says.

"Kenny! Camera! Now!"

'Of course, she wants to tape this.' I thought, rolling my eyes.

"Off the record, no camera." Sidney argues.

"Forget it!"

"Please, you owe me!"

"I owe you shit!"

"You owe my mother!"

Gale signals her cameraman to put away the camera.

"Your mother's murder was last year's hottest court case. Someone was going to write a book about it."

"Right, but it had to be you with all your lies and bullshit theories."

"What is your problem?" Gale asks, sounding annoyed. "You got what you wanted. Cotton Weary is in jail they're gonna gas him. A book's not gonna change that."

"Do you still think he's innocent?"

"Your testimony put him away, it doesn't matter what I think."

"During the trial you did all those stories about me calling me a liar?" Sid asks.

"I think you falsely identified him. Yes." Gale confirms.

"Have you talked to Cotton?"

"Many times."

"And has his story changed?"

"Not one word."

"He admits to having sex with your mother but, that's all."

"He's lying!" Sid shouts, defending her mother. "She would of never touched him. He raped her and then he butchered her. Her blood was all over his coat."

"He was drunk that night. He left his coat at your house after your mother seduced him."

"I saw him leave wearing it."

"No! You saw someone wearing that coat...The same someone planting it in Weary's car. Framing him!" Gale shouts

"No! Cotton murdered my mother." Sidney defends.

"You're not so sure anymore, are you?"

Tatum had enough, as she walks up to Sid and pulls her away.

"Nice welt sweetie. Let's go Sid." Tatum says, throwing a snide comment towards Gale.

"Those murders are related." She told me.

I roll my eyes at her and walk away, flipping her off from behind in the process.

"I'm sorry I mangled your face." Sid apologizes, sarcastically.

"Sidney don't go." Gale pleases

"Just stop alright." I tell Gale, getting annoyed with her.

We walk into the school, and we go to our lockers which are lined up together. As I look to my left, I see Stu walking up to me.

"Hey beautiful."

I smile and he leans down, so we can kiss.

"Hey yourself."

I grab my books and throw them in my bag and lean into Stu, he holds me in his arms, as we listen to Sid.

"This is a mistake; I shouldn't be here." Sidney says, sounding concerned.

"I want you to meet me here right after class. Okay Sid?" Tatum says.

"Alright," She looks concerned. "Stu, you haven't seen Billy around. Is he really pissed?" Sid asks.

"Oh, you mean after you branded him the Candyman? No, his heart is broken." He states.

"Stu." I hit him in the chest.

"Oww." He whines

Suddenly someone is running down the hall, in the same costume I seen Dewey hand over the sheriff yesterday, run down the corridor and past us.

"Why are they doing this?" Sidney questions, looking upset.

"Are you kidding? It's like Christmas." Stu comments, smiling ear to ear.

"Stupidity Leak!" I yell at him.

I flick him on the forehead a few times.

"Take it easy."

Sidney suddenly takes off down the hall crying.

"Sidney!?" Tatum yells for her.

We sigh at one another, as the bell rings for classes to start. By the time the lunch bell rang, I was ready to leave. As if the universe has heard what I was saying, the principle came over the intercom.

"Attention, students and staff, starting right now, school is being let out for the rest of the day. Woodsboro police is mandatory a nine PM curfew to all. Students, please be safe tonight. Remember everyone, to lock your doors and windows. I'll see you all next week."

Wait did he say, see you next week? It's Thursday, do we get a four-day weekend? Hell yeah! I was rounding the corner of a hall that's leads to my locker, when I ran into a certain someone.

"Four-day weekend, baby!" Stu whoops out, throwing a fist in the air. "Party at my house tonight!"

"Easy there, Tiger." I laugh, as I open my locker.

"Come on!? Tell me you aren't excited for this."

"I'm excited, just need to tone it down a bit."

"How long have you known me?" He asks.

"Far too long." I joke.

"Party. My house. Tonight."

He leans down and bends me over, kissing me. Someone clearing their throat behind us. I notice Stu looking up of who it was and flipping them off.

"Get a room." I hear Randy whine.

Stu helps me stand right.

"What do you want Randy?" I ask, in a funny manner.

"Is Sid alright?"

"Yeah, she's fine. Little shaken up is all."

"Is it true that, Billy, did it?"

"It wasn't him, douchebag," Stu defends his best friend. "His phone bill was clean."

"I was only asking, sheesh."

We were walking outside now, and I see Tatum and Sid just up ahead.

"Tate, Sid!" They stopped and turned around to see us. "Do you know what happened?"

Tatum looks over to Sidney, who looks down in shame. Tatum sighs out and looks over at me.

"Sid was attacked in the bathroom."

"Wait, what? Are you, okay?!" I was shocked and afraid for my friend.

Why would the killer try to pull a stunt like that? In a middle of a school day!

"I just don't get why they're after me." Sid asks.

"I'm so sorry, Sid."

I went over and hugged her, which she greatly accepted. That was soon lifted though.

"Kizzo, Kaskizoo is out, I don't know what you did Sidney, but on behalf of the entire school we say, thank you!" Stu yells out.

"Drop it, Stu!" Tatum yells at him before I could.

"I say... an impromptu party tonight at my house to celebrate this fiesta. What do you say?" Stu questions, pulling me into his arms.

"Are you serious?" Sidney asks.

"If you don't want to Sid, we don't..."

"Aww, come on Sid." Tatum begs, interrupting me.

"If this little vixen doesn't invite the entire world, we'll be okay," He nods to Tatum. "Intimate gathering, intimate friends." Stu reassures.

I shake my head; I must agree with Sidney.

"What do you say Sid? I mean pathos could have its perks." Tatum says.

"Totally protected. Yo, I am so buff. I've got you covered, girl." Stu says, rolling up his sleeve and showing off his muscles.

Again, shaking my head at his goofiness this time.

"Come on Sid, for me? It will be fun." Tatum begs.

"Okay, whatever."

"Pure pressure." I say, with a sing-song voice.

Tatum slaps my arm.

"Yeah? Nice. Cool, you guys bring food alright?" Stu asks them.

"Do you have practice?" I ask him.

"I don't believe I do. Why?"

"Could we be alone before the party starts?" I trail my fingers up his chest teasingly.

"Don't have to ask me twice."

"Hey, I'll catch up with you guys later." I tell Tatum and Sidney.

"Have fun." Tatum says, in a sing-song voice.

Suddenly I felt my feet leaving the ground and I'm being lifted into my boyfriend's arms.

"Ah Stu, put me down."

"Why, where would the fun be in that?"

I giggled like a little schoolgirl all the way to his vehicle. He sat me down on the cement in front of the passenger door of his 1980, Ford, F150, off white color pickup truck.

I remember the day he got this. It was our, freshmen year of high school, his sixteenth birthday present from his parents. They were so excited for him to be getting into high school and trying out for the football team too. I was happy for him that day.

"My lady." He bows, being dramatic about opening the door for me.

"Well thank you, my good sir."

We laugh together. I get into the seat, and he shuts the door for me, and he walks around the driver side and hops in. Just as he does, his cell phone rings.

"Hey, what's up? Yeah sure. Tiffs with me. Alright, all ask her. No dude. Alright fine, I'll meet you there."

He looks over at me and sighs.

"Uh hey, can we stop by the video store really quick?"

"Sure, what for?" I asked confused.

"Billy wants me to meet him there."

"Yeah, that's fine."

"Great!" He leans over and we kiss.

He starts the ignition to his truck, and we make our way to the video store.
