Chapter Four: It's the Millennium
Author's Note: This is going to be a short chapter. After reading this chapter, you know what will be coming next. I'm really excited to be writing the final scene of this movie.
Driving down the road, with the radio blasting to Cosmic Girl by, Jamirquai. I was looking out the window just thinking about the recent events. My parents haven't called once. Woodsboro is a small town, sure. But I just hope they aren't too worried about me.
With the killings going on, I just don't know what to do. Even though I tried my hardest at going to sleep last night, I felt I didn't get any sleep at all. I was tossing and turning all night. Worried for Sidney. Worried for Stu. Worried for my cousins and all my friends.
"Hey, you alright over there?"
I felt a hand on my knee. I look over to him.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"What is your pretty little head thinking about?"
I smile and huff out a laugh. Looking ahead, I see that we were stopped at a red light. Looking back at my boyfriend I said.
"You always know how to make me smile Stu."
When I didn't answer him right away, he answered for me.
"You're worried, aren't you?"
I nod.
"I'm a little scared too, I'll admit that. I just feel like I have to keep looking over my shoulder and sleep with one eye open. I couldn't get any sleep last night. I was worried about Sidney. I know that Dewey was there last night, but I still didn't feel completely safe."
"I'm glad you were over there though. If anything, you could have been home alone and possibly attacked."
"Like Sid! I should have left work early and been there for her."
"Yeah, but you weren't. Look this might sound selfish, I'm glad you weren't there. You could have been hurt or worse killed. I wouldn't have been able to forgive myself if anything happened to you." He explains.
We pulled into the video store's parking lot and parked in front of the store. He turns off the truck, as we face each other to talk properly.
"I know, that's what Dewey said too." I sighed out in frustration.
There was silence between us for a minute.
"So, see one person had the same thoughts as me." He gives me that goofy grin of his.
"I'm worried for you too." I muster up.
"You don't have to worry about me. You know that." He reassures me.
"You promise?"
"I promise. Cross my heart and hope to die."
"Stuart!" I slap his arm playfully.
"Ouch, figure of speech, sheesh."
"Still not funny."
"Come on, let's head inside."
Stepping out of the truck, I look inside.
"Whoa, I'm surprised Larry hasn't called me in yet. Never seen it this busy before."
"Yeah, what the heck is going on?" Stu asks.
"Who knows, let's go in." Walking hand in hand we get inside. Every aisle was filled with young adults, looking through different selections of movies. I can tell they were mainly in the horror and murder section.
"Hey, Randy!" I shout, seeing him on a movie cart.
He looks around and notices me. In the result of that though, he accidentally runs into a customer. It was just a bump, but I could tell the customer was upset. I pull Stu along with me over to Randy.
We get over to him and I was about to help him with the videos he was holding in his arms, when a certain someone knocked them out of his hold.
"Oh sorry." Stu apologizes.
I can hear the sarcasm in his voice. I roll my eyes at him and bend down to help Randy.
"Ohh. Dork." Randy calls him.
"Jesus, this place is phat tonight." Stu comments.
"We had a run in the mass murder section." Randy says.
"Yeah, I can tell. I'm surprised that Larry hasn't called me in yet."
"Don't jinx it, or he might."
"You coming to my fiesta?" Stu asks, slinging an arm over my shoulders.
"Yeah, I'm off early cause curfew you know."
A girl catches the corner of my eye.
"What's that werewolf movie with E.T.'s mom in it?" She asks Randy.
"The Howling, horror, straight ahead." I tell her.
"Thanks."
I notice Randy is looking over his shoulder
"Now, that's in bad taste." He speaks.
"What?" Stu questions.
"If you were the only suspect in a senseless bloodbath, would you be standing in the horror section?"
We both look over to where he was looking and seen Billy talking to two girls and sharing some candy with them.
"What? It was just a misunderstanding. He didn't do anything." Stu defends for Billy.
"You're such a little lap dog."
"Randy!" I yell, punching him in the arm.
"What? Billy has killer printed all over his forehead. We both know that."
I roll my eyes at him.
"Oh really, how come the cops let him go, smart guy?" Stu questions.
"He does have a point there." I said, putting my hand on my hip.
"Cause they obviously don't watch enough horror movies."
"Sure Randy, as if the police don't already have enough on their hands. They should sit down and watch a cheap horror movie." I say, rolling my eyes.
"You and I both know this is standard horror movie stuff. Prom night revisited."
"Yeah? Why would he want to kill his own girlfriend?" Stu questions.
"Again, he has a point." I spoke.
"There's always some stupid bullshit reason to kill your girlfriend."
"Oh." Stu says.
"That's the beauty of it all, simplicity. Besides if you get too confusing you lose your target audience."
"Well, what's his reason?"
"Maybe Sidney wouldn't have sex with him?"
"Really Randy, you think that's his reason to try to kill Sid?" I question.
"And What? Is she saving herself for you?" Stu asks as well.
"Maybe. Now that Billy tried to mutilate her," He looks around, leaning he whispers. "Do you think Sid would go out with me?"
"Randy." I scuff.
"NO, I DON'T AT ALL! NO!" Stu shouts, making some people look over at us. "You know who I think it is? I think it's her father. Why can't they find her pops, Man?"
I know Sid's dad, he's a nice man, he'll never do that. Also, he loved Sid too much.
"Because he's probably DEAD! His body will come popping up in the last reel or something. Eyes gouged out, fingers cut off, teeth knocked out! The police are always off track with this shit!" Randy yells, causing a scene.
"Man!" Stu whispers, telling him to cool down.
"Hey, calm down, before Larry sees us."
"If they watched Prom Night, they'd save time."
More people are starting to look us. I feel my face heating up in embarrassment.
"There's a formula to it. A VERY SIMPLE FORMULA! EVERYBODY'S A SUSPECT!" Randy yells, throwing his hands around with tapes in his hands. All the chatter that was going around stopped and all eyes were on us. Stu pretends that Randy is mad, making the coocoo signals with his hands to his head.
"I'm telling you, the dad's a red herring. It's Billy!" Billy comes up from behind and grabs Randy by the collar. I raise my eyebrows in questioning of that move. Hopefully I don't need to step in.
"How do we know that you're not the killer, huh? Huh?" Billy questions, still holding Randy by the collar.
"Hi Billy." Randy stumbles out.
"Maybe your movie freaked mind lost its reality button. Ever think of that?"
"Your absolutely right I'm first to admit it. If this was a scary movie, I would be the chief suspect."
"What would be your motive?" Stu questions, standing behind Randy, placing his hands on his shoulders.
"It's the Millennium. Motives are incidental."
"Millennium,"" Billy repeats. "Hmm... I like that. That's good. Millennium. Good kid." Billy said, patting his cheek and walking away.
"Millennium", good word my man." Stu says, patting his shoulders.
He goes to where Billy is and they start talking to one another, looking at movies in the process.
"You're telling me that's not a killer." Randy states, looking at me.
"Just don't come to me, when Larry fires your ass later." I said, changing the subject.
"What? It's simple."
"Alright Randy, I'll see you later. And don't forget to bring movies over too."
I hug him and just start looking around. I see that Billy and Stu were still talking amongst each other. I wanted to be respectful to Stu, since Billy wanted to see him anyway.
A few minutes go by, of just looking around the store. I'm currently in the sci-fi section looking at, Star Wars Episode V: Empire Strikes Back. I've seen the Star Wars movies and I would have to say the fifth one is my favorite. Randy or Stu aren't big into them, but Randy has seen them, and we talk about them. Rumor has it, Lucas is making a new trilogy and is going backwards, making an Episode I. Maybe Stu and I can go see that if we're still together or around after all this is over.
"Boo." Stu says, while grabbing my sides and making me jump.
"Ugh, don't do that."
"Can't have a little fun?"
"We can do that, once we get back to your place."
"Yeah, we can." He smiles, pulling me into a kiss. "Let's get going. Party doesn't start for another few hours."
I smile at him, and we walk out hand in hand, back to his truck. The radio is back on and we're just listening and enjoying each other's company. Arriving at his parents' farmhouse, in the upper mountains we parked his truck in the driveway behind their boat.
Getting inside Stu's house, we were already making our way up to his bedroom. As soon as I stepped into his bedroom, he lifted me up and we fell onto his bed.
"Let's take our time." I whispered in his ear.
"You read my mind, babe."
I smiled and we kissed passionately. I love this man, I think after this, I'll be telling him that. I can't see my life without him. If anything happened to Stu now, I would never forgive myself.
