Exorcist Training Ground
When all the angels were assembled for morning training Lute flew up and addressed them "Attention Sisters, I have had a revelation. Last night I received a message from a fallen sister, Vaggie".
The angels gasped, how could that traitor contact anyone in heaven after she sided with the demons over heaven, over her own sisters? Lute continued "We were all told that Vaggie was a traitor because she refused to strike down a demon, thus she abandoned her station and sided with the demons. I have come to find out that she was branded a traitor because she refused to kill an innocent soul. Before you say anything, I know we were all told that any soul in hell is evil incarnate; that they would kill us all if they got a chance. This is a lie, some souls are innocent."
Before she could continue Adam flew down asking "What the hell do you think you are doing"? Lute turned to Adam and said, "Telling them the truth, Sir. Vaggie spared an innocent soul and was branded a traitor".
Adam scoffed and looked into Lute's eyes before replying. "Lilith was responsible for Eve's death, I will see Lilith punished, even if I have to wipe out her subjects year after year!" Adam yelled "As for Vaggie, She disobeyed orders. All of you are given orders to kill any soul in sight. That is my order and you will follow it explicitly!"
Lute wasn't going to back down "I can't just follow orders when I know they're wrong!" she said. Adam adopted a stern look and said "You will if you support the system we fight for".
Lute replied "I do support it, I do; but I am not just a weapon! None of us are! This is about more than just following orders''. Adam continued with his cold look "It is, it is about honor". Lute could barely contain her rage "Where is the honor in committing mass genocide!? Where is the honor in sending millions of souls to oblivion?!"
Adam lost his cold look and looked sad and defeated "That is not our choice to make Lute. We are part of something larger. We are not independent of one another. You swore an oath to heaven, you have a duty." He put his hand on her shoulder.
Lute looked into Adam's eyes "As sure as it is my duty to remain loyal to your command, I also have another duty to protect my sister's. I will not send them into a foolhardy war!"
Lute turned to the assembled angels who were whispering among each other in spite of the recent argument "I used to think being a good soldier meant doing everything they told you, that's how they trained us but we are not mindless killing machines, we have to learn to make our own decisions. We are loyal soldiers, we follow orders, but we are not a bunch of unthinking weapons. We are angels, we must be trusted to make the right decisions especially when the orders we are given are wrong."
Turning to Adam she continued "There might be a better way than mass genocide, we need to give Charlie Magne a real chance at redeeming these souls. I ask that we give her 2 years to make her case, Sir. Allow her to prove she can redeem a soul. Allow the Exorcists to regain the honor we once had".
On the inside, Adam figured that as much as he wanted to avenge his wife maybe Lute had a point. Maybe there was a better way, a way that Eve would want. It might be time to bury the past and start anew, not hold on to personal vendettas.
Adam had a thoughtful expression on his face and after a few seconds he looked back at Lute "All right lieutenant, tomorrow we will visit hell and tell the princess together". Lute got a heartfelt smile on her face and softly said "Thank you, sir".

I know that many people loved the characters created by Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano exactly as they were but I wanted to write a story and put my own little twist on it. I also saw a disturbing lack of substantial Adam/Lute stories so I wanted to try and rectify that. I plan to post a new chapter about once a week. While this story is going on, I plan to write an Alastor/Charlie one as well (at least at some point down the line). Best wishes all and hope you enjoy :)
