I own nothing. May contain Out of Character moments.
And so, 1A's King of Rooms challenge began without warning. Midoriya's was the first one up and it looked exactly how the shorter boy pictured it.
"I'm… I'm a huge All Might fan… This is embarrassing…" Midoriya said nervously as he faced away from the crowd at his door. Mineta looked from one wall to the other, noting down the various All Might posters and figurines that filled his partner's room. And after realizing that even Midoriya's bedding was based on All Might's golden age colors… The shorter boy wondered just how much merchandise Midoriya actually owned.
"Where did he keep all these back home?" Mineta wondered as Uraraka cheerfully inspected all of the All Mights.
"This is definitely a fan boy's room! Everything's taken care of so well." She said excitedly.
After that, the class went into Tokoyami's and Aoyama's room. For the former, 1A more or less invaded his 'domain' and saw just how much of a dramatic edge lord he really was. As for the latter, his room was literally on the opposite of the lighting spectrum. And with all the mirrors, it genuinely made Mineta question their faux Frenchman's level of narcissism. Then there was the shorter boy's own room…
"An artist's room… Given how well you do in Modern Hero Arts and regular Arts, I should've expected much." Yaoyorozu said as she picked up one of his sketch books.
On one wall, there were several shelves with many figurines on it. They were all sorted by name and country of origin. Between his desk and dresser, there were trunks that had an 'art supplies' label on it. On the desk itself were his sketch books and current project, an incomplete model of Shouji. On his dresser were the completed projects, models of the 1A girls, Midoriya, Kaminari, and himself.
And finally, in one corner of the room, was Mineta's baseball stuff and yoga mat.
"My Dad works on manga, so I grew up around sketching, painting, and all that." Mineta replied. But before a curious Mina and Hagakure could ask who his Dad was, Jirou let out panicked squeal. And when all eyes went to her, they found her furiously blushing and just plain furious.
She stomped over and shoved her own model in Mineta's face. And based on this, the shorter boy had an idea what this was about.
"How the Hell did you get my measurements!?" Jirou shouted. The other girls began examining their own models and soon realized that theirs were also scale accurate. Mineta, despite having five upset females before him, took a deep breath and nonchalantly pointed at his eyes.
"Eyeballed it." He replied calmly.
"T-This is far too accurate for eyes! Even for an artist!" Jirou replied. The shorter boy then walked over and opened up one of his sketchbooks. He flipped to Midoriya's model sketch and showed it to them. But he was specifically pointing at the numbers scribbled on the sides of sketches.
"I have a formula to adjust the numbers and increase accuracy." Mineta replied. As Yaoyorozu took the book to study the numbers, Jirou continued to furiously glare at the shorter boy. Mineta sighed as he rubbed the back of his neck. He understood why she was upset; Jirou just discovered someone got private information on her.
But even Mineta knew better than to use that information for something unsavory.
"Look, I haven't done anything weird with the numbers. I promise you, it's just for the models and nothing else."
"Like I believe that! Just… Ugh… I'm using my favor. Could you hand off the ones you finished to us?" Jirou replied, relaxing her fury before gesturing to the finished models.
"I was going to give it to you guys once I finished the set… But if it'll make you feel better, you can have it now. Think of it as a house warming gift." Mineta answered with a shrug. If this finally got them all moving again, then he might as well do it. But man, if he knew this was what was going to happen… Mineta should've made all the guys first.
At least the girls have been placated as they took their respective models. Since Tsuyu wasn't here, Uraraka decided to hold onto her model for now. Yaoyorozu handed back Mineta's sketchbook and 1A finally got moving again. Upon reaching the next set of rooms, the class just saw how each fitted the personality of its occupants.
Ojiro's was quite plain. Iida's was full of books, with one shelf dedicated to spare glasses. Kouda's had a bunny rabbit in it, captivating Uraraka, Mina, and Hagakure. And then there was Kaminari's room…
"And… Perfect." Kaminari said as he placed his model from Mineta's room on one of his shelves.
"And yet the rest of the place is a disaster." Sero commented. Mineta honestly didn't know what he was looking at. Skateboards? Vinyl records? License plates as decorations? What was this supposed to say about Kaminari? And it was here that Mineta remembered something the electric blonde told him on the day off after the USJ attack.
"Oh right… He experimented with his hobbies…"
That's when he remembered another point about him. Mineta, while Kaminari was distracted by the oncoming critiques, began to carefully examining the room. And that's when he saw a bookshelf that was hidden behind some generic cool guy stuff. The shorter boy carefully moved towards it before examining the contents.
"… Found you." Mineta said out loud as removed one of the books. The cover illustration had a woman's disembodied eyes and lips against a midnight blue background as a dazzling festival occurred in the foreground. This was The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
"Nooo!" Kaminari cried as he dove at Mineta. But given his size and training, the shorter boy dodged around the tackle, causing Kaminari to crash into the floor face first. 1A blankly stared before Kaminari got up, his face still red from the impact.
"Alright, you got me… I like to read western literature!" He admitted loudly. But despite this declaration, 1A just stared like he was crazy. And then about half of them, Mineta included, buried their face into their hands.
"Dude… Why did you say that like we don't already know?" Kirishima asked.
"Well… I thought you guys would think I'm lame for reading books or something…"
"The rest of this junk makes you look lame. This makes you look more like a normal person." Mineta replied, tossing The Great Gatsby back to the electric blonde. Kaminari took a moment to process that before his bright smile returned.
"Yeah, I guess it does." Kaminari said as he set the book down on his desk.
"And if you actually talked about it, you wouldn't seem like such a thundering dumbass." Jirou commented with a laugh. He just stuck his tongue out at her before 1A continued onwards with their dorm tour.
The next floor wasn't too bad. Bakugou's room was barred on the account that Bakugou thought this was stupid and went to bed early. Kirishima's room fitted his personality very well, though Mineta swore he just got testosterone poisoning from being in there for too long. Shouji's room was the anti-thesis to everyone else's room thus far, having almost nothing but a simple desk and a sleeping futon.
The final floor for the boy's side had Sero's room be quite an exotic sight. As far as Mineta could tell, everything in his room appeared to be handmade. As for Satou's room, it contained a few baking appliances. It honestly made sense for a guy who powers up on sweets to have it. But despite the quick energy boost from Satou's cake…
Todoroki's room had destroyed all sense of logic amongst 1A as they stared at an impossible feat.
"Does anyone else see what I'm seeing? Or have my eyes finally gone bad?" Mineta asked, his eyes unable to look away or blink.
"No dude… I'm seeing this too…" Kaminari replied.
Todoroki's room, unlike EVERYONE else's, was Japanese style instead of Western. The floor was tatami, the walls were divided by wooden supports, the ceiling was fine wooden boards, and even the door to the balcony was a traditional sliding door. Mineta began scratching his head as to how all this got here. It couldn't have been designed like this since all the other rooms were built the same way.
The only possibility that was left was…
"Why and how did you pull off a one day renovation?" Mineta asked, turning to Todoroki.
"My home's traditionally Japanese, so modern flooring doesn't feel right. And as to how, I just put in a little effort." He answered nonchalantly as though this was no big deal.
"If this is a little effort… I'm scared of what you could build with more…" Uraraka commented with a nervous chuckle.
"Todoroki-kun really is on a different level from us…" Midoriya said, wiping the sweat from his brow.
"Ask not the sparrow how the eagle soars…" Tokoyami said, still stunned by this level of effort.
"Could we finish up please? I'm tired." Todoroki asked with a yawn, gesturing for 1A to move on. And so they did, as Jirou and Hagakure kicked off the girl's with intrinsically different rooms. For the former, it was a haven for a musician, complete with a full rock instrument ensemble. For the latter, it was your everyday high school girl's room, complete with several stuffed animals. Although…
"What animal is this supposed to be?" Satou asked, gesturing to the large plush on Hagakure's bed.
"I don't know. I think it's whatever animal Principal Nezu is." Hagakure replied as she hugged the thing.
"And that would be?"
The invisible girl was about to answer when her words got caught in her throat. And despite not being able to see it, Mineta could easily tell Hagakure was bewildered. Several seconds passed before she turned to Midoriya, her voice full of curiosity and uncertainty.
"Midoriya-kun! Analysis!"
But the green haired boy just shrugged. Like with Thirteen's sex/gender, Midoriya didn't have enough evidence to put down a definitive answer in his Hero notes. The only thing he could say with certainty is that the Principal was a land based, quadruped mammal.
"Kouda-kun! Analysis!" Hagakure shouted, turning to their resident animal expert. But even their gentle classmate could only shrug as well, though he did offer more of his thoughts on the matter.
"The Principal has traits from several different mammals, making it hard to pin down a specific species. I think I even saw ankle spurs when he took off his shoes once…"
"… Ankle spurs? Like a platypus?" Iida asked as he adjusted his glasses. Kouda simply nodded and a bewildered silence washed over 1A. Mineta reflexively looked to Midoriya for his thoughts, but the green haired boy was too busy doing logic gymnastics. And everyone was just about the same before a single voice cut through the awkward silence.
"For the first time in my life, I realized that Quirks are strange." Todoroki said.
"You get used to it…" Mineta replied wearily as he patted his arm. Mina, before anyone revisits the Nezu conundrum, quickly led the class to the next floor where her and Uraraka's rooms were. Mina's room was similar to Kaminari's room in a way, having extravagant patterns on her bedding and other room accessories. As for Uraraka's room, the girl laments that the most expensive thing in her room would be the scale model Mineta gifted her. It was still pretty cozy all things considered…
But for now…
"Alright! Grand finale time!" Kirishima shouted as 1A went to the last floor. But before heading to Yaoyorozu's room, the class had to carefully and quietly walk past Tsuyu's room. Earlier, Uraraka mentioned that Tsuyu wasn't feeling well and had turned in early. So as a result, 1A were keeping their reactions in check while they were on this floor.
But as Mineta followed his friends and classmates, he could suddenly feel eyes watching him. He subtly slowed down, allowing all others to pass him before turning around.
And that was when he saw Tsuyu's door close with a soft click.
Mineta first looked back at 1A, who was busy with Yaoyorozu's introduction. And after figuring out they would be a bit distracted by whatever the regal girl had prepared, he snuck back to Tsuyu's door. He then raised a fist and gently knocked on the door.
"Tsuyu?" Mineta asked quietly. No response from the other side… The shorter boy let out a contemplative hum, trying to determine what to do next. He was sure that this door was open before and that it's occupant was watching him. But then there was also the fact that Tsuyu was probably not feeling well, physically or mentally, to do this.
"This is 'a lot' cramped Yaomomo!" Kaminari shouted in the distance. Mineta snapped to the room 1A was at and decided it was probably best to leave the amphibious girl alone. Whatever problems she was having, he doubted he could be of any use to her.
But the moment he turned his back to the door and walked a few steps, he felt something wrap around his body and mouth. He was then dragged back and thrown into the dark without warning.
And the last sound that filled his ears was the closing of the door…
And that has been Chapter 81!
Not much happened this chapter as we go through 1A's personalized rooms. As you all know, canon Mineta's room wasn't shown due to his excessive creepiness. However, that is not the case here, though Jirou is reasonably weirded out that someone got her measurements without her knowledge. As for the more artistic aspects of Mineta's dwelling... There were several side materials that implied or outright stated that our rat has artistic abilities. And so, here we are.
I don't have any other news... So...
Next time, we'll be witnessing a heart to heart between friends who have no idea what they're doing.
Until Next Time. T1.
