Planning a wedding is hard work! Decisions, decisions, decisions! In most weddings you may know, the bride probably does more of the decision making, whereas the groom probably only worries about his suit, the bachelor party, and who he'll pick as the best man. Well, not in this wedding. Mila made it clear she wanted her groom involved as much as possible, in everything except her wedding dress, it being a traditional belief that it was bad luck for the groom to see the bride's dress before the ceremony.
The invitations, though, looked so beautiful. Mila's younger siblings and the younger kids in Tech's family, well the royal family technically, all worked on lots of ideas for the invites, but finally came up with a beautiful invitation covered with stars and marigolds.
"You are cordially invited to celebrate the marriage of Milagro Mariana Madrigal to Tech Fett." the invitations read.
Naturally, it would seem odd for Tech not to have a last name, though technically none of the clones did. So, when the Batch decided on such, they took on Boba's old last name, since Jango Fett was technically their father too.
Today, Mila returned to the casita to meet with Mirabel as they'd each finished sending out their designated stacks of invitations. This wedding was invite-only, unlike other Madrigal weddings where everyone in town made their way in.
Mila and Tech had a lot of friends in the groom's world to invite too, and they couldn't neglect to have the family on the list.
"Alright," Mirabel sighed. "We've got the invitations out, the venue's been picked, and so have the flowers and decorations. We're done with wedding planning for the day."
"Except for one thing," said Mila.
"What? What did we forget?" Mirabel said.
"Speeches." Mila said.
Mirabel chuckled and said, "You and Tech are going to need to write your own speeches."
"And the best man and maid of honor?"
"They'll have to write their own too."
Mila smiled and said, "Then you'll need a pen and paper."
Mirabel gasped at that response. "Mila, you don't mean-"
"You're very special to me, Mirabel. Even though we come from different sets of parents and we're technically cousins, you're like a sister to me, and my best friend. I've enjoyed every moment of getting to grow up by your side, so would you do me the honor of being my maid of honor?"
"Si! Of course, prima!" Mirabel hugged her cousin. "I'll make sure your big day is the most magical, special, fantastical day of your entire life. Oh! I made a dress I think will be perfect!"
Mirabel showed Mila a dress she made recently. It was a lovely red cap-sleeve gown with little marigolds embroidered in the bottom of the skirt.
"Well, what do you think?"
"Did you know I was going to ask you?"
"No, but I wanted to look my best. So….?"
"It's magnifico, Mirabel." Mila said. "Think you can make something similar for the bridesmaids?"
"Sure, just give me their measurements. How do you think Tech's doing with choosing the best man?"
"I don't know. Last time I saw him, he was a little indecisive about it."
Tech was definitely indecisive where the best man was concerned. Boba played a big part in helping Tech ask Mila out for the first time, but he was only fourteen. Still, he thought it might be fitting to have one of his brothers be the best man, but he couldn't decide who. Hunter was responsible and cared for all his brothers, Wrecker definitely got excited about the whole thing, Echo had experience dealing with a lot of wild planning and such, and Crosshair and Tech were the closest. But, Tech just couldn't decide which one he'd rather have as his best man. Although, Tech learned in Mila's homeland, best men and maids of honor weren't a tradition often practiced; usually, they chose a godmother or godfather. But, Tech and Mila were making their wedding their own, but also taking in a few traditions from Colombia.
"Who to choose? Who to choose?" Tech wondered out loud, looking at a picture of him with his brothers. He didn't want to hurt any of their feelings by choosing one over the others. "How am I to choose? All of my brothers have qualities that make them qualified to be a best man."
Well, Wrecker was a bit childish, but he knew how to have a good time, so he could probably make a great bachelor party if he tried. And then, Tech had an idea.
Tech gathered all of his brothers after talking to Mila and having her come over with a little special something for one of them.
"As all of you are aware, Mila and I are in the middle of planning our nuptials, and one essential piece of that is the wedding party." Tech explained. "Mila has chosen her attendants, but I have yet to do so."
Hunter, Wrecker, Crosshair, Echo, and Boba all were sure they knew what Tech was getting at.
"So, one of us is gonna be the best man?" Wrecker said eagerly.
"Actually, not one. Echo, Crosshair, Wrecker, and Hunter… as you know, we are a squad, and it is because of your combined efforts that we have had a one hundred percent success rate. However, this time, I am part of the mission, and I need all of you to work together as my best men."
The other Batchers couldn't believe it. Tech just asked all of them to be the best men at his wedding.
"You mean it? You want all of us to be a best man?" Echo said.
"If you will all accept." Tech said.
Tech's brothers were honored by this.
"We would all be honored to be your best men, Tech." Hunter smiled.
"It's gonna be the best wedding ever!" Wrecker shouted.
"Weddings are not my specialty." Crosshair said. "But I'll do it for you, Tech."
"Then why am I here?" Boba asked.
"We have a very special job just for you, Boba." Mila said, taking out a little red silk pouch.
"What's that for?"
Mila opened the pouch and poured its contents onto a coffee table. Thirteen shiny gold coins. Tech and Mila talked about it and they decided this would be a great job for Boba. In Colombian tradition, there was a special ritual at wedding las arras, which involved the groom being handed thirteen gold coins that he handed to the bride as a promise to provide for her, and as part of that tradition, a special someone was selected by the couple to hold onto these beautiful coins.
"Boba, you were one of the first to help me ask Mila on a date for the first time." Tech said. "Back then, I would not have guessed that it would lead to now, but it was a risk well spent."
"And we couldn't be happier." Mila smiled. "That's why Tech and I, we both agreed we can't think of anyone more suited to guard las arras."
"So, it's kinda like being a ring bearer?" Boba asked. "I have experience doing that."
"Sort of, except instead of rings, you're holding coins." Mila said. "We do have rings too, except where I'm from, we wear the rings on our right hand until after the wedding. So, will you accept?"
Boba thought about it. This was a special honor, and these coins sounded very important to this particular couple. If holding onto them was all he needed to do, how hard could it be?
"I would be honored, Mila."
Mila and Tech now had the wedding party figured out. Next thing on the agenda: picking the wedding cake.
