Raven had not anticipated that the job would turn out this way. One moment, she was stealthily navigating a very small town turned bandit camp to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a sufficiently wealthy family. The next, she was being tackled through an old wooden wall of some house by a rather tall and muscular male bandit.
Before infiltrating the camp, Raven made sure to study all the patrol routes. Despite being a small camp, it still had at least over a dozen of bandits dwelling inside of it and Raven knew better to assault it head-on. So, she decided on a stealthier approach. She did a good job sneaking inside and avoiding both the moving patrols and standing guards. But that changed when rounding a corner and coming face-to-face with a bandit who finished taking his piss break.
The two just stood there, staring at each other with dumbfounded expressions. Until they both made a move to kill the other which was the result of Raven crashing through a wall. The young woman was pinned onto her back, trying her best to push the bandit off of her. Raven's right gloved hand was pushing against his face while the other one was tightly holding onto his right arm.
For the most part Raven was keeping him at bay, but she knew she couldn't keep this up for long. She surmised that her opponent was thinking similarly as he gathered enough strength to shove her hand away from his face and, with his left hand turning into a fist, managed to land a punch across Raven's face.
Raven felt dazed, her vision was blurry, and the room wouldn't stop spinning. The feeling wouldn't get better when she felt a tight grip on her ankle and was then suddenly thrown across the room. She slammed against the wall with force, coughing slightly as she attempted to rise. But also managing to finally shake off the dazed feeling just in time for the bandit to grab her by the shoulders and once again throw her across the room.
The young woman toppled over a couch and then had her back slam against an entertainment center. With worried blue eyes Raven watched as the bandit stomped his way toward her. She begins to blindly feel around the top of the entertainment center in hopes to grab something to defend herself. But whatever her fingers bumped into or knocked down were too small.
Raven kept at it till her fingers slid into some kind of slot. Swiftly glancing at the object and seeing what it is, Raven suddenly mustered a burst of strength and, with a shout, rose to her feet. With one arm, she swung the small CRT TV at the bandit. The sound of the screen shattering and the bandit screaming out in pain filled the room.
Mostly reacting than thinking, Raven pulls out her gun from her SUD and aims down the sight. The bandit, no longer reeling in pain, stares at the woman with pure hatred in his eyes. However, that anger quickly evaporated when seeing gun pointed at him.
Without giving him time to react, Raven immediately pulls the trigger. The bullet made contact with the bandit's head, causing it to explode into tiny bits of bone and brain. The now headless body swayed a little till falling down to the floor, creating a loud thud sound.
For the next few seconds, the only noise being made was the heavy breathing coming from Raven. "Damn it!" She then cursed in a hiss. She was certain that the other bandits must have heard the gunshot. Her suspicion was confirmed when, a moment later, a man's voice shouted from outside the building, "Hey! What was that?!"
"It sounded like it came from in there!" Said another. Rushing over to the window and carefully peeking through it. Raven could see all the bandits were converging toward her location. With the little time she has to prepare. She reloads her weapon and then loots the body of the dead bandit.
From his SUD she pulls out two grenades and to her luck they were made by the Torgue Corporation. Returning to the window, Raven inhales deeply before exhaling. She then uses the butt of her gun to shatter the glass and proceeds to yank the pin from the grenade, hurling it out through the window with all her might.
From outside she heard the bandits' cry in surprise followed up by a loud explosion. "Here goes nothing," Raven declared, stepping in front of the shattered window and opening fire on the bandits, who were either dazed or injured.
If anyone was able to catch on. The battle between Raven and the bandit is a reference to the recently shown Gears of War: E-Day trailer. I really loved the trailer and I'm excited to play as Marcus and fight alongside Dom again. This one-shot takes place before Borderlands 2, but I'm keeping it vague when exactly it takes place. And yes, I never planned of showing how the job ended. Did Raven succeed in rescuing the daughter, or did she fail? Up to you. But Raven will return for the BL2 retelling story.
