He set his high price phone to notify him of any information on Beckett. He saw her photo's when she was given a medal for the operation, she looked hurt in it.

The article he saw also said she still had not returned to official duty. He received several blubs about the progress of her rehab.

He has called Kevin Ryan several times asking if he had any information on Kate.

Kevin was very honest with him, he had seen Kate often, she was recovering, but she asked, no forbid, him to not to tell him (Castle) about her injuries, or where she was at.

He said the word around the force was that she would never return to duty as a police officer.

As a matter of fact, the hot rumor circulating around was that she was going to be promoted to chief then retired with a full medical pension.

He knew this was only one of the many reasons she would not see him. Terribly upset he called his friend the mayor.

"Bill, Rick Castle how are you doing?"

"Getting ready to get put out to pasture in November. So, what can I do to help out?"

"It about my X-partner Kate Beckett"

"Rick, I know all about the accident."

"She still pissed at me, for making the decisions about the Operation so, everything I know comes second hand. I hear she is never going to be able to return to full duty. I also heard she is going to be promoted to be a chief, then medically retired. Is any of that true?"

"Sad to say all of it is true Rick. There is nothing I can do to change that."

"She in that bad of a condition Bill?"

"I saw her when we gave her a medal, she could hardly move, and in great pain. My heart went out to her."

"Thank you Bill I can't say I'm happy about her condition. I do appreciate the information."

Doing everything, he knew was wrong he started out the door. The first stop was the 12th precinct.

He gained entrance due to the fact that most of the officers still knew him and liked him. Entrance to the fourth floor was easy but tension bult up like a stone wall with every step he took.

"OH! I know you all know me, and you all have affection for Beckett.

But please I am not the enemy. She hurt, needs help, MY HELP.

I cannot give it to her without your help. Some of you like her, some of you LOVE her.

I LOVE HER WITH ALL MY HEART.

Give me the help to find her and help her. PLEASE."

There were real tears in his eyes. Captain Thompson came running out of his office as soon as he saw Rick. He pressed the button that summoned help of the uniformed officer in the building to the fourth floor for a problem.

Several uniformed officers came onto the unit but were blocked by the detectives from getting near Rick.

"Captain send the uniforms away, Castle is not a threat, he one of us."

The captain did as asked, and they took Castle into a conference room.

Two hours later they said their goodbye and Castle went on his hunt, with added information, and some more backup.

Three days later Kate was sitting in her room in the nursing center feeling sorry for herself again.

In her lap was a picture of Castle at the launch of his latest 'Nikki Heat' (MISSING HEAT), book.

He look great he was smiling, but she recognized the smile it was a phony one.

She wanted to cry she missed him so, but she never ever wanted him to see her so broken, barely able to take care of herself.

Needing help to just dress, walk, and bath. She almost wished he had let her die, almost.

"For a prize Detective you did a poor job of hiding Beckett."

Her heart stopped; it could not be him. No, no, no, please no, he cannot see her like this, a god damn cripple.

"Look at me Kate, I am not going away. You are not staying Here It nice, but you need more help.

I am going to give that to you."

"No, you cannot be here. Leave me alone."

"I can't do that Kate I'm your legal guardian, I will not let you waste away.

I have arranged for you to be moved tomorrow."

"Why Rick, why did you not let me die?"

"Because I love you too much, I need no other reason, Kate. I am taking you to Arizona to a special clinic to have them see if they can help you."

"t

God damn you, they have told me no one can help me.

I am a cripple for the rest of my life.

Why, oh why did you not let me die?

To make me live like this, a god damn cripple?"

"I love you and I could not let you die again.

This was not meant for this to happen. You let others

make decisions about your care, you cut me out.

I had the best people to treat you to repair you and you turned them down, why?"

"You're a damn liar, you abandoned me you never came back after the second time I asked for time.

No one offered me treatment they said that what was it."

Castle took out his cell and started scrolling back through the files to the time she was hurt. He found what he was looking for. He turned the phone so she could see the screen. On it read.

"Rick, I have met with my advisors, and we have decided we do not want anything more to do with you or your help, either personal, or medical. I am happy with my treatment and what my life is to be. Please leave me alone or we will have to seek legal means to keep you away.

Kathryn Beckett."

She turned white and used her emergency call bell to summons help. An orderly and a security guard arrived in a minute.

"Miss Beckett what the problem?"

"Check that man's phone and see if that message is real."

The guard took the phone and called his superior and in about five minutes two local police units and a State Police Unit were on scene.

The trooper was able to connect to the server company and verify that the message was in effect was real, and that Mr. Castle was no threat to Ms. Beckett.

In another few minutes, all the police had left. The only people left in the room were two very mad people who were unsure about whom they were mad at. They knew they needed answers and needed them now.

"I never sent that message; I never received a single message from you.

I lost my cell before I entered the hospital. I only received a replacement a month after I was released. I was told it was you who did not want to see me in my condition."

"I was barred from seeing you in the hospital, by your medical team.

They told me that in your mental state you held me responsible for your injury and did not want me to ever see you again.

I am willing to bet that that person sent me this message in your name was Josh Davidson. He is your lover, boyfriend."

"What would he have to gain?"
