Innocent Heart

Chapter Six: Communication is Key

Bella Swan

I wasn't sure how I managed it but I somehow got both Jessica and Angela into the ladies restroom after I got off the phone with Edward. They were both pretty drunk at this point, I could hardly get a sensible word out of either of them, Angela was worried that the guy would follow us into the bathroom, and Jessica was just panicking. I'd never had to look after someone that was drunk before and the two of them were just laughing and messing around, I was freaking out.

Thankfully I managed to settle them after I locked us all in a stall. I slid Jessica down the stall wall to the floor and Angela I kept her upright on the toilet seat with her head resting against the toilet roll holder. I'd gone back and forth to get tissue paper, wetting them so I could to keep the both of them cool. I felt like I was babysitting a couple of kids and I was the mum and I didn't know how to handle it. I'd never dealt with this kind of thing before and I was worried about Jessica. I didn't want Edward to see them in this mess and so I'd done the right thing and fixed their clothes to ensure no bra straps or thong strings were on display. I hadn't told them that Edward was on his way, I didn't want them knowing how involved I was with the most popular guy at school.

When I heard whistling for talent follow the sound of the bathroom door opening with a thud I immediately unlocked the door to the stall. I looked out to find Edward standing there, he was wearing black trousers, a black shirt and a heavy black coat. He stepped inside with all the confidence in the world as the girls inside whistled and cheered at the sight of him.

Edward's eyes fell upon me as I stepped out of the stall.

"I'm sorry" I said, I knew I'd gone against his rules, I'd been drinking and I was out in the open.

Edward stepped closer to me then leaning down to whisper into my ear "I have every intension of punishing you later. But for now."

With that Edward pushed the stall door open behind me revealing Angela and Jessica.

"Hello Ladies" Edward smiled.

Angela immediately recognized Edward, I didn't think she'd ever spoken to him, but it was clear she knew who he was.

"You're Edward Cullen!"

"The one and only"

Edward offered his hand out to Angela as he helped her down from the toilet seat. He then looked back to me with a raised brow.

"She's not good with alcohol." I said.

"And what about you?" Edward asked stepping closer to me.

"I didn't drink much."

Edward then turned to Jessica helping her to her feet.

"Do you ladies need a ride home?" Edward asked, offering Jessica his arm.

Both of them immediately agreed to go with Edward, I guess I couldn't blame them. The three of us followed Edward out of the bathroom and out of the club, I wasn't surprised when the bouncers didn't give Edward any trouble. Outside was a sleek black SUV and it was then I realized just how far Edward had travelled to come and get me, Forks was an hour away.

"Do you want me to drive?" I asked hoping Edward would let me take the wheel, I'd always wanted to try driving such a big car.

"Absolutely not" Edward replied.

"Come on" Jessica nudged me "I'm sure Edward won't mind if you sit in the back with us, I call shotgun"

Jessica and Angela climbed into the back seats of the car, while I hesitated before taking a seat in the passenger side. Edward started up the car and pulled out of the car park, as soon as he began to drive I turned to Edward.

"Can I turn the radio on?" I asked.

"No"

"How come?"

"Because I want silence."

"We want to hear some tunes" Jessica spoke up from the back of the car.

Edward reached for the radio and switched it on before pressing another button sending the music into the speakers in the backseat before pressing another button that brought up a tinted divider between the front and backseats silencing everything from the backseat completely in one swift motion.

"So this is where you chose to spend your evening?" Edward asked glancing at me.

"I didn't want to be at home."

"Well you can't have everything you want Bella. If you could, you'd be far from me and I'd be far from you."

"Don't you enjoy spending time with me?" I asked.

"You mean the same way I enjoyed our time together earlier?" Edward asked with a smirk.

I blushed remembering our moment in the bathroom.

"Do you think that's the kind of relationship we could have?" I asked.

"I already told you, you and I are not in a relationship, I won't be sad when I send you packing."

I frowned, I was used to Edward being cruel to me, but I didn't understand why he had to be this way tonight.

"But don't you want to be friends?" I asked.

"I don't have friends Bella, I have allies and I have enemies, everyone else is irrelevant to me, and that includes you."

I hated that I cared about Edward's opinion of me, but I did, I wanted to impress him, I wanted him to see me as something other than a means to an end.

"You must get lonely" I said softly as I turned my head to gaze out the window at the passing city streets.

Beside me I could feel Edward's eyes lingering on me.

"Not as lonely as you're going to be" He said.

I wasn't sure what he meant by that, but it wasn't long until we were pulling up outside Jessica's house. Edward came to a stop on the side of the road and as he did I turned to see the divider lowering between the front and back of the car. Angela and Jessica were passed out asleep in the back of the car, Edward parked and got out of the car, I followed after him. I watched Edward pick the lock on the backdoor to her house, Jessica was the first he picked up carrying her carefully in his arms, I watched as he brought her inside, I followed after him unsure of how I could help.

We entered in through the kitchen, there were a few lights on downstairs, enough to help me direct Edward towards Jessica's bedroom at least. Edward laid her down on her bed and I began to take Jessica's heels off for her.

"What are you doing?" Edward asked.

"I'm just putting her to bed" I said.

I found her pajamas at the bottom of her bed and I began to undo Jessica's dress ready to help her change.

"Leave it" Edward said.

"But she'll be uncomfortable in that" I said.

"Trust me Bella, she'll be fine in that"

"Sounds like you've got plenty of experience with drunk girls." I commented.

"Jealous Bella?"

"No, I just...you seem to know what you're doing."

"That's because I do, I'm not like other men" Edward said.

When we left her room Edward took my hand in his leading me down the hallway and out of Jessica's house. He instructed me to stay in the car before he lifted Angela into his arms with ease. Angela was spending the night with Jessica, she'd brought an overnight bag with her and so it was lucky for us that no more breaking and entering would be necessary tonight. I watched Edward disappear round the back of the house with Angela before I began to look around his car. There were CDs inside, I'd never seen Edward listen to music before and so I wondered what kind of taste he had. I found a few rap CDs and a bunch of other ones I'd never heard of before. I turned the music on low volume before switching the CD to a rap one, I liked listening to the lyrics and the beat, I didn't often get to hear this kind of music.

I jumped when Edward opened the driver side door.

"What the fuck are you doing?" He demanded.

"Nothing, I was just looking at your music collection."

Edward took the CD from my hands and switched it back to the other CD before starting the engine and pulling out of Jessica's driveway. I turned to watch him as he drove.

"I didn't know you liked music." I said.

"Everyone likes music" Edward said.

"What's your favourite song?" I asked.

"I don't have one"

"Sure you do."

"I don't have a favourite song, favourite gun or even a favourite girl." Edward said.

"So you don't have any favourites?" I asked.

"No"

"What about food?"

"No"

"Drink?"

"No"

"Car?"

"No"

"Coffee?"

"No"

"Okay I get it, you don't have favourite's but surely there's something you like, you can't say you don't like anything." I said.

"Would you rather I list all the things I hate? I'll give you a hint what's top of the list right now." Edward said.

I fell silent then, I didn't want to annoy him anymore, he was already mad that I'd broken our rules and gone out to a club. When we pulled up at the gates to the Mansion they were opened by who I assume were night security who gave Edward a nod as we drove in. Edward parked the car outside the doors to the mansion and he cut the engine. I watched as he took something out of the glove compartment before he got out of the car. I went to unbuckle my seat belt but Edward was already opening the passenger side door.

"Get out" Edward said.

I slipped out of the car and walked around to meet him.

I nodded, I hoped Jessica and Angela wouldn't remember too much of tonight.

Edward began to walk towards the main entrance to the house, I followed after him, I didn't know if I was expected to go to my own room or if I was supposed to follow Edward. Edward held the door open for me and I walked inside, the foyer was dark except for a couple of the small lamps lighting up the space.

"Come" Edward said.

I followed him through the house, we took a right and I found myself following Edward into an office. Edward shut the door behind us and locked it, I stood in the middle of the room watching Edward as he removed his jacket placing it down onto the desk. I took a deep breath in, I knew what Edward was going to do to me, he was going to punish me.

"Come here" Edward instructed.

I stepped closer to him and stopped just a few steps away.

"Turn around"

I swallowed hard before turning my back to him.

"You're a naughty girl." Edward whispered into my ear.

I bit down on my bottom lip as Edward's hand brushed my hair off my shoulder exposing my neck to him.

"You broke the rules, you went out into the open and you drank, you deserve to be punished."

"I'm not a child." I hissed

"And you're never going to know when the punishment is coming." He whispered seductively into my ear.

Edward then stepped around me so that he was facing me.

"I'm going to make you wait for it. And when I do punish you, I'll make you wish you never stepped foot outside my house."

I inhaled deeply, I knew Edward was trying to intimidate me and he was succeeding.

"Go to your room, I'll see you in the morning."

"You're dismissing me?" I asked.

Edward smirked "It's not a dismissal, it's an order."

I clenched my jaw before turning away from him.

I opened the door to Edward's office and stormed out into the hallway. I headed to the stairs taking them two at a time before I reached the top and walked down the corridor to my room.
