Fry sat in the hospital, his hair messy, and dark circles around his eyes.
Two weeks. Two weeks.
Two weeks since Leela got stung by the bee.
There are no known survivors of the sting of the huge bees that were in the hive where the planet express crew went to collect honey. The doctor said Leela wouldn't wake up.
But Fry had hope.
Suddenly, Leela's breathing became irregular.
"Leela! No! Listen to me, you don't want to lie in bed like a vegetable and do nothing the rest of your life. I've tried it. Bedsores hurt!" He cried.
Obviously, there was no response. Leela hadn't even twitched since she fell into the coma.
"Fight it! You can! The Leela I know doesn't give up this easily."
He was right. Leela was a hardworking person and that's why Fry loved her and that's why Fry sat by her bedside and never got up for the last two weeks.
He spoke to her nonstop despite what the doctor said about her remaining state to the point where the others thought he was insane.
Leela's was struggling to breathe, and Fry finally understood that this was the end. He just wanted to tell her one last thing. There were so many things he wanted to tell her, so many things he wanted to apologise for and so many things he wanted to do with her.
But he would never get to do so.
So there was only one thing he could say.
"I don't know if you can hear me, Leela, but there's something I wanna tell you. I love you. Just wake up, Leela. Please. Just wake up."
Leela took in a deep breath, exhaled, and never inhaled again.
The doctors rushed in, doing everything they could to save her, but it was hopeless.
Fry was speechless.
Fry hadn't said much since Leela's death. He felt numb at her funeral. He was in denial that he would never see her again and that she was truly gone.
Bender walked in the room Fry was in.
"You doing good, Meatbag? You don't talk much these days."
Bender didn't show his feelings. But he was sad too, Fry knew it.
"The professor wants to tell you something."
Fry went to the lab where Farnsworth was.
"Fry! I know Leela's never coming back, but I used her DNA to clone her! She'll be a living reminder of your lost loved one!"
For the first time in over a month, Fry smiled. He would never forget Leela, but the others were there for him.
Maybe things were looking up.
