Chapter 14: Enter the Digiverse & Codename Arcturus

P.I.X.A.L. plugs a cord to herself while Cyrus works on the Digiverse. After the team left the Serpentine village, they went back up not the surface and to Borg Tower. Cinder watched the intelligent man and Android worked on the machine in the main office of the tower.
"I think we should put the main switch over here to keep it tucked away a little. With a little ingenuity and a few more coaxial cables, we may be able to reboot the system with the Techno Blades and erase the Digital Overlord for good." Cyrus said
"I thought you said we needed the stolen hard drive to do that." Jay said with a confused expression
"I did. But that was before I truly understood the entire capabilities of what Zane's powers truly allow us." Cyrus said
"And what is that?" Kai asked
"A chance to enter remotely. By the time we figure out where Lloyd is, it'll be too late to stop the Overlord from draining his Golden Power." Cyrus explained
"And escaping the Digiverse?" Nya added
"Exactly. But if we digitize the ninja and Techno Blades using my experimental technology, you could fight him on his own turf inside the Digiverse." Cyrus said
"What do you mean inside the Digiverse?" Jay asked
"Ugh, weren't you listening? He's going to put us into a video game." Cole grunted with a frown and Cinder huffed in agreement with his brother.
"I know, heh, I just wanted to hear it again!" Jay said excitedly
"But Mr. Borg, if anything were to happen to them inside the program—" P.I.X.A.L. said
"Of course. Every step into the unknown has its dangers." Cyrus said
"What dangers? What is she talking about?" Kai said concerned.
"You know how in video games you get multiple lives?" Cyrus said
"Yeah, whoa." Jay said but was thrown back as light appeared on the tv screen.
"It's not like that." Cyrus said
"Oh." Jay said when he realized what the man said. Cinder worried for his brother's life being risked in a video game. But Lloyd was in trouble and getting the Overlord off from within the system was easier than finding the hard drive. Also, the Overlord would be unstoppable because he drained Lloyd's power and nothing can stop him... unless he'll do it with his Aether power again. The dragonet knows he can use it again but with the current skill he has, he can't use the Aether constantly, only once in a while.
"Presto! We're up and running!" Cyrus said with a smile but then—-
"Aha! You see? Borg is holding out on us. He does have power." Postman shouted as he and the other citizens barge in
"Oh, this is no time for more post-apocalyptic role playing, Postman." Cyrus groans with frustration
"This isn't a game anymore. We heard about the Nindroid activity. What if they come back? We need power to defend ourselves. And I wanna catch up on my shows." Postman said with a glare.
"Would you like to play a game?" He computer said
"They are playing a game. Take back the power!" Postman shouted and the civilians moved in
"No, stop!" Cole shouted
"We're trying to help you!" Kai shouted as well. Cinder was about to intervene but didn't need to. They stop attacking when Golden Power surrounds them.
"Uh." Jay said dumbfounded
"Where's all the power coming from?" Nya questioned
"Golden Power. It's already begun. The Overlord has started the transfer." Cyrus said
Cinder then headed over to the window and looked down below to see Nindroids, a massive amount were about to invade the tower. He turned around and shouted.
"We're being surrounded below!"
"Quick, P.I.X.A.L., we must isolate our server. If he finds out our plan to use the Techno Weapons remotely, the ninja won't stand a chance." Cyrus Said
"Isolating server. Sir, we have an abnormal mass of power signatures." P.I.X.A.L. said
"Aah! They're already here. Initiate lockdown." Cyrus said and activated a barricade around the Borg Tower.
"Be seated, ninja. There isn't much time." He said and Nya turned to the citizens
"Do something useful and make sure those Nindroids don't get up here. If you ever wanna see your favorite shows again, you better get downstairs, now!" She said
"Once we're inside, what do we do?" Zane said
"Put simply, reboot the system. All source code travels through the heart of the mainframe. Follow it and you'll find a glowing activation port. The Techno Blades are the keys to activate the reboot and erase all corruption from the system." Cyrus explained
"Uh, can you put it more simply?" Kai asked
"Look for a big bright light, Airhead, then put your weapon in it." Cole said
"Okay, got it. I can do that. Hey! I'm not an airhead." Kai said but got annoyed by the insult.
"Remember, I wrote the code, but he controls it. His turf, his rules. I'll do my best to keep you hidden from here, but the longer you go unnoticed, the better chance you have to succeed." Cyrus said and looked at the controls. "Prepare for entry."
"How do we know this is really gonna work and won't disintegrate us instantly?" Kai questioned uncertain
"Hm. I'm not sure. Let's see." Cyrus said and activated the system and sent them to the Digiverse. Cinder watched as their bodies' heart rate slowed and breathing shallowly ok. He turned to Cyrus and P.I.X.A.L..
"Are you sure they'll be ok in there?"
"Of course. Even though this was an experiment, we should have tested it more. But looks like it went through and are in." Cyrus said as P.I.X.A.L. checks on the ninja.
"Vitals are strong." She said
"So far, so good. He hasn't detected them yet." Cyrus said and Cinder warbled with relief. He kept a lookout on the battle belo from the window while Nya looked down in the stairwell. Cyrus checks the activity of the ninja on a computer.
"They're doing it. They're mastering the digital world. I must buy them more time—" Cinder turn around from Cyrus' surprise shout to see him being attacked by his artificial limbs. "Argh! My legs! They're back!"
"Stay with them! If the Overlord finds them in the system, it's all over!" Nya said as she attacked the legs.
"He's already found them." P.I.X.A.L. said gravely and then sees the ninja in trouble. "The ninja, they're being consumed by the corrupted program."
"We're all a bit consumed." Nya grunted
"Unh! Go, these are my legs, and my problem." Cyrus said
"I'll try to hold the rest of them back." Nya said
"Alright, I'll stay here and help them." Cinder said and he head-butted the artificial limbs and then released a shot of Ice and froze the robot in a cube.
"Phew! Thanks Cinder, now let's get them out of that data then. P.I.X.A.L., listen to me closely. You need to bypass the main subnet and overwrite the existing corrupted code." Cyrus said
"Yes, sir." P.I.X.A.L. said and controls the crane to pull the ninja out of the ground. "I temporarily altered the corrupted code. Hurry, I can only resist him for so long."
Suddenly the artificial limbs burst from its ice trap and Cyrus was back struggling with it again. Then Pythor and Wu entered, seeing the ordeal in front of them.
"Argh! Ugh! Oh, no. P.I.X.A.L., protect the ninja." Cyrus yells
"No!" P.I.X.A.L. said and attacks and disarms Wu and Pythor. But the man gets grabbed by a Nindroid. "Argh! P.I.X.A.L., it's all up to you now!"
Cinder tried his best to help, but with the confined space and the ninja not awake in their bodies. He's using what elements he can use, which are Ice, Earth, Wind, and Shadow. But his last two weren't helping a lot. After a few minutes of fighting them P.I.X.A.L. accidentally throws Wu next to the main switch.
"Turn off the master switch." Pythor demands
"No. The ninja will be left behind in the program forever." P.I.X.A.L. shouts with despair
"Just like they left me in the Devourer. Do it!" Pythor shouts. Cinder turned and ran over to Wu and jumped up and about to do a head slam but was halted. Cinder looked and eyes widened as Tech Wu was holding him up by the horns. Cinder gulped and laughed nervously but with inhuman strength Tech Wu threw Cinder hard at the window. Cinder screeched in pain as the window shattered from his weight and was falling towards the ground. Last thing he remembered before hitting the ground was seeing Garmadon and Tech Wu fighting.

P.I.X.A.L. pushes the button to bring the ninja back.
"I'm just Zane." He said and P.I.X.A.L. hugs him. "You're back!"
"You're so much more than just Zane." Kai said
"You did it!" Nya said as she came in from the stairs.
"You all did it." Wu said as he and Garmadon came in from the window.
"Oh, Sensei, you're back!" Jay said excitedly
"I knew you'd be back." Kai said with a grateful smile
"So the system is completely clear?" Zane asked
"There is no evidence of the Digital Overlord. He is erased." P.I.X.A.L. said and everyone but Garmadon cheers.
"But what about Lloyd?" He said and a few minutes the team were at a communication device.
"Lloyd, are you there? Do you read me?" P.I.X.A.L. said but the communicator was static for a few mins, making everyone worried. But they didn't need to worried.
"I'm here. I'm all right." Lloyd said
"Son, where are you?" Garmadon said surprising Lloyd, making him relieved and happy,
"Dad? You're alive! Uh, I'm not alone. I'm in a remote village."
"Stay where you are, we're picking you up." Garmadon said
"Ah, good, 'cause, uh, my Golden Power's, uh, a little spent." Lloyd said and everyone laughed, but P.I.X.A.L. looks at Cyrus' wheelchair.
"Don't worry, we'll find him. And when we stop Pythor, all of this will be over." Zane said, putting his hand on her shoulder.
"I hope not." P.I.X.A.L. said sadly
Everyone continued to laugh but then Cole noticed something.
"Where's Cinder?" He asked, P.I.X.A.L. looked down at her hands. Everyone looked concerned.
"I'm sorry Cole. Wu threw him out the window when trying to stop him from trapping you in the Digiverse. We don't know how his condition is and from this height I don't know how critical his health is."
Cole looked worried and scared and ran out, the other ninja following. Cole didn't stop running until he got to the bottom floor and out the doors. He looked around, searching for the purple scales of his brother.
"CINDER! CINDER! WHERE ARE YOU!"
A whimper was all he needed to hear and ran to the left and went along the building till he stopped in his tracks and froze. There, on the ground whimpering in major pain, was Cinder. His entire body was covered in bruises, his snout badly scuffed and blood oozing from his nose. Both his wings were broken in several spots that looked like he won't ever fly again. His limbs have broken bones and a few ribs were sticking out and his tail has a bunch of scales missing, showing the sensitive skin. Cole stared at the scene in front of him in shock. He slowly walked towards his brother and sat down and gently picked him up.
"B-bro?"
All he got back was whimpers and weak whines. This caused the black ninja to break down. He cried, he cried so hard that it got the others attention by the noise and ran over.
"Cole!? What's wrong?" Jay asked but Cole turned around and showed them. Everyone gasped at the damage the dragonet suffered. Wu was the most guilty in the situation.
Cole noticed this and sighed.
"Sensei... this wasn't your fault. Pythor and the Overlord are the ones that caused this. At least he did a good job protecting us from the Nindroids."

The ninja were in the Temple of Light. It has been a few days after erasing the Digi-Overlord. Lloyd has made the decision to give back the other ninja their elemental powers, making him lose his golden powers.
"I can't do this alone anymore. As long as I have all this power, they'll never stop coming for me." He said
"From here on out, we can't let anything separate us again." Zane said
"He's right." Jay agreed
"Absolutely." Cole said, agreeing
"Let's do this." Kai said but Lloyd halted when seeing the last symbol not filled with a certain dragonet. He heard what happened to Cinder once he got away from the Overlord's capture and contacted the team. When he got back to them he wanted to see how the dragonet was fairing. But when he saw the condition Cinder was in, he was in the worst shape and was sleeping. Lloyd felt sad and regretful for the events that happened and wanted to help with anything he could but didn't know how. But then remembered the Golden Power is the power of creation, and maybe he can do something to aid the dragonet's recovery quicker. He turned to his dad and uncle.
"Dad? Uncle?"
"Yes son?" Garmadon said and turned towards him.
"Can you bring Cinder over to his symbol?" Lloyd said and Garmadon was confused and asked him why.
"I might have an idea. I want to see if this could work." Garmadon nods and grabs the sleeping Cinder, who was in a basket wrapped in bandages. He was taken out and put onto his symbol. The other ninja were confused as well but stayed quiet and watched. Lloyd then strikes the bell with Golden Power, and light spreads from the bell and out towards the ninja giving the ninja their powers back.
"The Elemental Power, it's inside us." Zane said
"Fire!" Kai yelled as Fire came out of his hand.
"Haha, anyone shocked to see me do this, huh?" Jay said with a cocky grin as Lightning crackle around him
"No dirt off my shoulder." Cole said rock particles rumbled around him.
"Chill out." Zane said as he created an arch of ice about him. But suddenly—
"Rooar!"
Cole turned and eyes widened as he saw Cinder standing on his hind legs, but was fully healed from his injuries. But what was different was that Golden Energy was swirling around him for a few seconds and fades away, but Cinder's eyes were glowing a bright gold before it too faded. Cinder then crumbled to the ground, exhausted and unhurt.
"Bro!"
Cinder was lifted up from the ground and being hugged. He purred contentedly by the warmth of his brother and wondered how he's fully healed, but was explained to him what Lloyd did. Cinder thanked him for this, but could feel the Golden Power swirling within him. Knowing his power as a Purple Dragon he would somehow gain knowledge of usage of it. He walked out of the temple to let his brother and the others goof around with their reawakened elemental powers. He came over to the two Sensei's and sat next to them.
"Foolishness. This decision puts everyone in jeopardy." Garmadon grumbled
"But it was your son's decision to make." Wu stated
"The young take too many risks. They should listen to their fathers" Garmadon argued and Cinder snorted at his opinion of the team.
"Without risks, they'll never know how far they'll truly go. Have faith, brother. We will catch Pythor and find Borg. Maybe then you'll rest easier." Wu pointed
"As the protectors of this land, we don't have the luxury of taking a rest." Garmadon sighs and Cinder speaks up.
"At least you have me to be responsible with my powers."
Garmadon smiled
"Yes indeed. You, out of the team, are the most powerful with your powers. As well as being a Purple Dragon, you have control over the elements."
"Agree brother." Wu nodded and Cinder looked out at the forest below and thought of the Golden Power within him and the training he still has left to do.
"I'll keep this quiet until I talk to Ignitus about it. Maybe he can show me what I can do with the Golden Power."

After the little trip to the Temple the team were back in New Ninjago City, working in Borg Tower to search for the Nindroids. Kai, Lloyd, Cole, Jay, and Nya were out in the streets while Zane, P.I.X.A.L., Wu, Garmadon, and Cinder were in Borg Tower.
"Any update on the search?" Garmadon asked
"Our cameras haven't picked up any trace of Pythor or Borg, but the ninja are in the field where we don't have eyes." Wu said
"No sign of Nindroids in the Toxic Bogs." Lloyd said from the computer with his communicator.
"Lloyd, while you're out there, do you have time to search the Glacier Barrens?" Wu asked
"Hey, I may not be able to move mountains anymore, but I can still cover ground. Over and out." Lloyd said and disconnected.
"Project Arcturus?" Garmadon questions with a concerned look.
"Two days ago, Zane and P.I.X.A.L. intercepted a coded message. Something with the codename "Project Arcturus"." Wu explained
"I think I may have made a discovery." Postman said and rearranges the words. "Carrot Cup Juster.""
"What's a "juster?"" Wu asked confused
"I don't know. Yet." Postman said and Wu sighs and Cinder huffed at the man idiocy.
"Keep looking, I don't think that's it."
"Arcturus. Long ago, didn't we face a Serpentine general by that name?" Garmadon said and Wu nodded
"Indeed we did, brother. They even named a celestial zodiac after him. We're not sure how they are related."
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
"What in Ninjago's name is that?" Garmadon demanded
"Our facial recognition software picked up someone." P.I.X.A.L. said and it showed a familiar robot.
"Cryptor." Wu said
"My analysis can only presume they're using Borg to build something." Zane said
"But what?" P.I.X.A.L. wondered
"We need to know where those trucks are headed. Find me the nearest ninja." Wu said with a stern look. P.I.X.A.L. did just that and located the nearest ninja. Cinder looked at the two Sensei's.
"Should I go?"
"No, even when you're fully healed, you should still take it easy for a few days." Wu said and Cinder nodded and lay down in the chair.
"Cole, Jay, and Nya aren't picking up. Kai is the nearest in proximity." Zane said
"And he should be able to get there quickly in the Prototype X-1." P.I.X.A.L. said and Wu nods
"Good, but tell him not to engage. We can't let them know they're being followed."

"There's a Nindroid convoy heading west and General Cryptor is on it." P.I.X.A.L. said
"Cryptor." Kai said
"We need you to follow, but not be spotted." P.I.X.A.L. said
"I'm a ninja. That's part of the job." Kai said cockily and Cinder grumbled.
"She means it, Kai. Don't be an idiot and botched up the mission."
"I do mean it, Kai. It's imperative your carelessness does not jeopardize the mi—" P.I.X.A.L. said but noticed she was muted and growled
"Relax. When have I ever been careless?" Kai said and continued to drive. P.I.X.A.L. tried to contact him but was getting fed up with his carefulness, so she takes control of the Prototype X-1.
"Huh? What's happening? Whoa, whoa!" Kai questioned
"I've taken control of the X-1 remotely. You can't get rid of me that easily." P.I.X.A.L. said with a smirk.
"Fine. Have it your way. How close are we?" Kai asked
"Approaching convoy in three minutes."
"Let's see if we can make it in two." Kai said and activated the boosters.
"You can't control your team." Garmadon growled
"Have faith, brother." Wu said
"He's ascending the mountain pass now." Zane said
"Kai, you better take over again." P.I.X.A.L. advised
"Okay."
"Remember, keep your distance. We only need to find out where they are headed." She directed
"Boring! What I want to know is what they are hiding?"
"Careful! Keep your eyes on the road, Kai." P.I.X.A.L. said
"I was just getting the feel of it. You know, every car handles differently."
"Yet this car is worth far more than you. I would not advise returning it with a scratch." P.I.X.A.L. stated
"Noted. Let's see if we can find some killer tunes." Cinder heard missiles going and paw-faced. Kai was such an idiot. He isn't great at video games, and still isn't great with technology in vehicles.
"Uh, oh!" Kai shouted as he was spotted. Cinder thought he should have overruled his Sensei's order of rest and go after the convoy.
"You've done enough. From here on out, I'm in control." P.I.X.A.L. said and took over the car's controls.
"Hey, I was driving."
"Not anymore." P.I.X.A.L. stated firmly
"What are you doing?" Kai said
"Now that our plan is foiled, our only hope is to get you aboard that semi truck to see what they are transporting." P.I.X.A.L. said
"Ah. I love it when a plan comes together."
"Aah!" Kai screamed as rocks from the side of a mountain were falling towards him but P.I.X.A.L. destroys the rocks with missiles from the car. "Ah. That was close."
"I thought "close" was the objective. I can't get past him. Get ready to hold on." P.I.X.A.L. said
"For what?" Kai questioned
"This." P.I.X.A.L. said and pushed a button
"What's happening?" Kai said in shock. Cinder watched with curiosity as P.I.X.A.L. ejects a motorbike from it, which Kai rides toward the truck.
"Keep your sunglasses close. They're also a receiver so we can communicate." P.I.X.A.L. said
"All right, time to heat things up. You're fired! You're fired! Uh, oh. Ninja, go!" Cinder listens as Kai fights with the Nindroids on top of the tanker but hears what he says sends chills down the dragonet's body. "Uh, P.I.X.A.L.? I'm sitting on a tanker of jet fuel, and I think I just lit the match."
"Jet fuel? He needs to get off that tanker before it explodes!" Garmadon shouts
"P.I.X.A.L., get him out of there." Wu demands
"Kai, there's a series of one-lane tunnels up ahead. We must time it right to get you off of there." P.I.X.A.L. said and controls the Prototype next to him, spilling gas in the process. "Hurry. Jump now!" But then a Nindroid grabs him, forcing Kai to fight back. "Kai, now is no time to fight."
"Getting kind of hot up here. Where are you?"
"Tied up at the moment." P.I.X.A.L. said as she maneuvered the car as best as she could up along the tanker.
"You like that, Sparky? Heh!" A few seconds later "Oops. P.I.X.A.L., I gotta go! Like, now!"
"I can't get to you! There's no time!" P.I.X.A.L. shouts and a few seconds later there was an explosion as the truck exploded
"Kai!" Zane exclaimed
"Kai! Can you hear me?" P.I.X.A.L. exclaims as a few seconds later—-
"Loud and clear. Well, maybe not so clear on the back of this truck." Kai said and everyone cheered.
"Hahaha! We lost him. We might've lost one payload, but we still have the other." They could heard Pythor said laughing
"Excellent. Head to the launch site." Overlord said through walkie-talkie
"On my way." Pythor said
"Listen up. The Overlord's alive." Kai said making everyone looked surprised
"What? Do you know where they're heading?" Wu questioned
"Wait, they're stopping. This might be it. I have to be quiet so they don't find my perfect hiding spot and—-" Kai was cut off.
"You!"
"Huh? Me?" That was the last they heard of Kai before being knocked out Pythor punches him.
"Gather everyone. We have to find out where they're going before it's too late." Wu said and P.I.X.A.L. did, and a few mins later Nya's voice came up in the communicator.
Cinder knew what she was doing.
"Were you doing a double date with Jay and my brother over the whole love ordeal?"
There was silence
"I thought so." Cinder said with a growl. This ordeal is getting more difficult to deal with, especially that the two ninja kept fighting over who's Nya's love.
"I'm sorry Cin. I wanted to see who would it be but—"
"It's me that she likes. At least I was being on behavior while you talked with that mouth of yours." Cole said through the communicator
"HA! You? Being on behavior while you can't seem to be only great at doing heavy lifting." Jay said through the communicator and Cinder growled in annoyance.
"Bro? Jay?"
"What?" The two said, their argument halted.
"Can you stop arguing? Please? Or do we want to have another repeat at the junkyard? Hm?"
"Uhh... No, no we should stop the argument. Right Jay?" Cole said nervously
"O-oh yeah. Of course, we shouldn't have a repeat of that happening again." Jay said laughing nervously as well
"Good, now get here right now." Cinder growled menacingly and heard Nya chuckling.
"Thanks for shutting them up. Even though that situation was out of your control. We'll be there in a few minutes. Over and out." Nya said and disconnected. Garmadon looked at the dragonet.
"Situation? What happened while me and my son were running?"
Wu hummed curiously
"Same to me. I was in the junkyard but didn't see anything out of the norm in Jay's parents home."
Zane looked at the dragonet and seeing his look Cinder nodded for his permission to show.
"Well Sensei, this happened before you invaded and the argument that Cole and Jay were having was the cost of it. Cole accidentally hit Cinder with his Techno Blade and made him have a mental debate that well… unlocked something dark within him."
"What'd you mean?" Garmadon said
"P.I.X.A.L., show them what happened." Zane said and she nodded and brought the memory file up. Garmadon and Wu's eyes widened as they saw Cinder's dark form and the power he wielded. Cinder covered his ears and was shaking, not wanting to remember that. After the video ended Cinder felt a hand rubbing his head and looked up to see Garmadon looking at him with sympathy.
"I get how you feel. Remember my corruption with evil? It was terrible but seeing you like that was even worse."
"I know, Ignitus told me it was something all Purple Dragons have if they were corrupted by darkness. But I don't know how my parents got it." Cinder said
Both Garmadon and Wu looked at each other.
"Who's Ignitus?"
"Ignitus is a dragon from Cinder's birth world who's talking to him through his dreams. In his world he's called The Chronicler: a dragon that watches over the timeline and fate of all dragonkind. He's been teaching Cinder some of the advanced techniques of his kind while asleep." Zane explains
"I see... like another Sensei for you Cinder.' Wu said and Cinder nodded.
"Yeah, sorry for keeping this away from you. He's been a great teacher and was close to my dad, so I wanted to keep this to myself. Hope I didn't ruffle any feathers."
Don't worry. You didn't do anything wrong." Garmadon said as Cole, Jay, and Nya came in.
"We're here. What do you find? She said
"The Overlord is back. And he has Kai." Zane said
"The Overlord?" The three said in surprise
"We know they plan to launch Project Arcturus tonight. But we need to figure out what it is in order to save him. Think. Think. The answer must be right in front of us." Wu said frustrated
"The Overlord's dire wish is to become the Golden Master. Maybe that has something to do with it?" Lloyd pondered
"Good, Lloyd, but what sense does all of this make? What is Project Arcturus?" Wu pointed
"I've run every combination of these clues through my database to see how they're connected, but there is no correlation." P.I.X.A.L. said
"Maybe there's a reason why it's not in your database." Zane stated
"But everything in Ninjago history has been recorded inside me." P.I.X.A.L. said but Zane shook his head.
"Not everything. Do you remember when we followed Garmadon back in time?"
"Uh, we did?" Lloyd said, completely comprehending. Cinder warbled in confusion as well.
"You don't remember, Lloyd, because when we returned to the present, it had been altered by what we had done in the past." Zane explains
"I remember because I was there. You used the Golden Weapons to destroy my Mega Weapon. But when they collided, they were shot into..." Garmadon said and Wu cut in.
"Space."
"Since Lloyd gave away his power, the Overlord's going after the only thing that can turn him into the Golden Master: the Golden Weapons." Nya said
