Now that the website is up and running as it should be, I figured this story needed an epilogue.
Epilogue
Matt sat at his desk filling out his latest report to send to Washington. He was signing and dating the form, when he heard cheering and hollering going on outside. Curiosity getting the best of him, Matt stood up, grabbed his gun belt off the hook, and put it on. He was about to leave the jail to investigate what was taking place on Front Street. As he put on his hat, Doc came inside, practically colliding with the big Marshal.
"By golly, Matt!" Doc put his hand to his heart trying to slow down his racing heart. "You about scared me to death! I didn't expect you to be there."
Matt had also been startled by Doc's entrance. "I didn't expect you ta walk in. What's going on out there? I was going outside ta see what was happenin'. Everyone seems ta be happy about something. Is Jonas having a big sale?"
Doc looked at Matt as though he was trying to figure out if Matt was joshing him or not. "Are you serious right now? Haven't you read any of today's papers?" Doc could see a copy of the newspaper neatly folded on the table.
"Read the newspaper? I haven't had time to read the newspaper. I had reports that needed to be filled out and sent to Washington. Now, do you wanna tell me what's goin' on?"
Doc walked over to the table and grabbed the newspaper. He unfolded the newspaper and handed it to Matt. The front page screamed with the bold headline 'Wonky Website Fixed!'. "Read the article."
Matt took the newspaper and began to read the article. When he finished, he folded the newspaper and put it back down on the table. He had his answer to all the cheering happening on Front Street. "It looks like these so called glitches have been taken care of and that has fixed the website."
At that moment, Festus walked into the jail slightly out of breath. "Matthew. Doc. Didja all hear that the website has been fixed? With all this whoopin' 'n a hollerin', I've worked up quite a thirst. How 'bout we mosey on down to the Long Branch 'n get ourselves a beer?"
"That's fine," said Doc. "But remember, yer buying this time."
Festus grabbed hold of his vest. "Ya ol' scudder. Leave it ta you ta remember that."
Doc tugged on his earlobe, slightly shaking it. "Festus, if I can get a free beer outta you, I'm going to."
Matt could sense a classic Doc and Festus argument brewing and decided to put a stop to it. "I don't know about you two, but I'm heading on over to the Long Branch." He opened the door and left the jail. Doc and Festus followed.
When reaching the batwing doors of the Long Branch, out of habit, Matt surveyed the saloon. The saloon was bustling with happy patrons. The player piano was belting out a tune. Beer and whiskey were flowing. Everyone was having a grand time. Matt chalked it up to the news of the fixed website. He didn't spot Kitty right away. But when his eyes scanned back towards the bar, he saw her standing behind it, helping Sam. Matt pushed the batwing doors forward and stepped inside. Doc and Festus were right behind him. All three made their way to the other end of the bar. Kitty walked down that way.
"Well, Kitty it looks like yer getting rich right now," Matt commented. "Folks around here are obviously celebrating the fixed website."
"I still don't know what a website is or how they fixed it," Kitty admitted. "But if it brings in this kind of business, I'm not going to worry about it. What can I get for you boys?"
"Three beers," Doc answered, holding up three fingers. "And Festus is buying."
Festus briefly closed his eyes and shook his head. "You know, Mizz Kitty, it'd be mighty thoughty of ya ta give a man at least one of the beers on the house. We are celebratin' sumpthin' here."
"Oh shaw!" Doc exclaimed. "Kitty, don't pay him any mind. He's going to pay for all three beers. He's not going to get out of it."
Festus mumbled something incoherent and pulled three coins out of his pocket. He placed them on the bar. Doc swiped at his mustache, trying to hide his grin. He always loved it when he could upset Festus. Kitty placed three mugs of beer on the bar and took the coins. She considered leaving one coin for Festus to keep, but decided against it. Kitty would let Doc enjoy this victory between him and Festus.
Philadelphia
"Chester!" Ann excitedly exclaimed. "Did you read the good news? The website has been fixed. It's no longer wonky."
"Whael forevermore," Chester smiled. "That shore is good news. I still would like ta know what a website is."
"Me too," Ann agreed. "Let's go out to dinner and celebrate."
Chester did not have to give that suggestion a second thought. Whenever he had a chance to eat, Chester was going to take it. His relationship with food had not changed. They decided to go to the Valley Green Inn. As the couple rode in the carriage to the restaurant, Chester smiled as he pictured his friends celebrating the good news at the Long Branch.
Long Branch
Later that night, up in Kitty's room, Matt held Kitty in his arms. She was snuggled up to his side, with her head pillowed on Matt's muscular, broad chest. They were enjoying the afterglow of their own private celebration. Kitty traced lazy circles on Matt's chest.
"Matt, do you think we'll ever know what a website is?" she asked.
Matt shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. I don't know if anyone around here ever will."
"Do you think it will have to be fixed again?" Kitty's finger continued giving attention to Matt's chest.
"I can't answer that," Matt replied. "However, if it gets me in bed with the most beautiful redhead, then I'm not gonna complain."
Kitty scoffed at Matt and playfully gave him a tap near his shoulder. She couldn't argue with him. Kitty enjoyed the business the fixed website brought and enjoyed her and Matt's private celebration even more. A huge smile spread across Matt's face as he kissed Kitty on the forehead. Both drifted off to sleep secure in the fact that the website was no longer wonky.
