I've seen a lot of fics about Kai or Coles' relationship with Lloyd after season five, but I don't think I've seen much of Nya. Thought it'd be interesting with the whole 'water ninja' thing going on, the fact that she can defeat the ghosts. Anndd, then I made this.
Enjoy!
Rain drips from the roof of the bounty and onto Nyas' shoes. She's staring at the stain it makes on the fabric, as it spreads to her toes, she can feel the cold travel from her feet up her legs and to her back. She's always liked watching the rain, even before everything, but more-so now that she knows it's her element, all hers.
She should probably head back inside soon, she can feel the water seeping through her clothes and making them all sloshy, she might catch a cold -and they don't need anymore drama for a while- but she can't seem to pull herself away just yet. Partly because, c'mon, it's water, and partly because she doesn't want to have to go back inside with the aftermath of the battle still evident in their home.
Lloyd was on their couch when she left, he'd only just settled down after hours of shivering, vomiting and coughing up blood. Kai had, of course, been beside him at all times. Not even leaving when Lloyds head was hung over the toilet seat, body clutched together in pain.
After all the commotion Zane went into the med-bay to patch up Jay, only a few cuts and bruises thankfully, Kai refused to leave Lloyd, so Zane said he'd come back after he was finished with Jay, and Cole.. didn't need any patching-up anymore, Nya was pretty sure she saw him make his way to their shared bedroom.
The aftermath was always the worst part of their job. 'Job', if you could call it that, if Nya could chose she certainly wouldn't want to do this for a living... but it did have its perks, the people mostly, and the rain. After battles everyone was always on edge, and tired, and sad, and done. -understandably so- This time was one of the worse-off experiences, with Lloyd coming back from a possession incident and all, not to mention Cole was- no longer.. Cole. The cherry on top being Sensei Wu not being much of a help since he was mourning that stupid little- Morro, Nya knew she had to be respectful but if the situation were even the tiniest bit different she wouldn't have hesitated to push him into the ocean despite anyone's protests.
But that didn't matter, what mattered was the now, and what they could do to.. fix everything. That was originally why she came out here in the first place, to think, to try figure out how to process everything that'd happened the past few days. She hasn't come to many realizations, except for how she's pretty sure she dropped her bracelet back in Stiix during the battle, which is fine, she doesn't need it anymore.
A whisper echoes from behind her, "Nya." She turns around to be met with Jay, a worried expression on his face, her eyebrows immediately furrowed as she stood up and walked towards him, her shoes squelching quietly with each step. "What's wrong?" Her hand came up to meet his shoulder, Jay glanced over to it and Nya moved it back to her side.
"Lloyd's throwing up again." Oh fsm, again? What is he even throwing up, his organs?! ..actually that wouldn't be that surprising considering his luck.
Nya made her way to their bathroom -they only had one, and it was always a nightmare even without all the puke- she was somewhere between a sprint and a jog. She held onto the door frame looking into the room. Lloyd was, sure enough, on his knees with his forehead resting atop his palm, staring into the toilet. A sudden wave of hurt came across her and ached in her chest. She told the guys they shouldn't've let him fight yet.
She kneeled down beside Lloyd, moving his hair out of his eyes, she let out a breath. His eyes were screwed shut and his nails dug into his head. "Hey.. you okay?" All she got in response was a groan. She ripped off a piece of toilet paper to wipe his mouth with. "C'mon." Nya held her hands out in front of her, bringing him to his feet and leading him back to the couch. The toilet flushed in the background, forcing Lloyd to stop in place and throw his hands up to his head in agony.
When they finally made their way to the couch Nya lay him down gently and covered him with a blanket -and another two after that- just to be safe. She moved his hair from his face again, this time lingering a little longer, he was still so cold despite being inside for hours and he was shivering underneath her palm. She sighed and looked over to the chair beside them. Huh, Kai isn't there anymore. Actually, he wasn't in the bathroom either? Did it really take her this long to notice his absence.
"What's wrong?" She heard Lloyd rasp from beside her, they should get him some lozenges for his throat actually, he did almost drown-
"Nothing, why." She responded, making her way towards their medicine cabinet, the bounty had a kitchen-living area all in one since its latest rebuild. She heard shuffling from behind her and snapped her head around so fast she gave herself whiplash in the process.
"Calm down, I'm only stretching." Nya didn't bother verbalizing how it would probably be better if he lay flat. "Just because you sighed, was wondering if somethin' was on your mind is all." He stuck his nose up and squinted, trying to get a better view past the plant on their island.
Sensei's plant but now they call him Kamal, Jay's suggestion because 'C'mon Nya you can't tell me he doesn't look like a Kamal', then Lloyd revealed it was the name of an actual plant, which Zane assured, the saucer- something.. Nya didn't quite catch it. Needless to say Jay made sure everyone knew he was a genius and the name kinda stuck.
"Are you getting me drugs?" Lloyd asked in a tone that sounded a little too upbeat.
She reached deeper into the cupboard, "No, just something for your throat." she was starting to pull out bottles from when they were living in that crappy apartment and everyone got the flu all at once and they were all miserable, fighting over the medicine.. and the serpentine. Not a good look for them. "You mean besides everything that's happened recently?" She replied, bringing her attention back to his previous question and finally pulling out the right packet, checking the expiration date just to make sure, do strepsils even go out of date? surely..
"Well that, or other things." He looked across the room to her, eye-bags still strikingly dark against his, now pale, skin. "But mainly that I guess."
She reaches up, grabbing a glass and moving towards the sink. "Are you feeling any better?" Nya said in an attempt to change the subject. She then turns the tap on leaving the glass fill before moving it to the countertop.
Another groan comes from her little brother, she's starting to think the tomorrow's tea didn't do much on his maturity levels, flashbacks flood into her head of all the tantrums they had to endure in those early days. "I want the drugs."
Nya stifles a laugh, turning back to the cabinet to pull out the ibuprofen. "When was the last time you had one?" She questioned from inside the cupboard, her voice coming out all echoed and far away.
"Whenever we got here." Lloyd spoke while playing with the blankets. Nya looked to the clock to get the time, then once more to make sure her mind wasn't playing tricks on her. She'd really let the afternoon get away from her, how long was she sat with the rain for.
"You should be okay for another one then." She said continuing her search while Lloyd celebrated. Once she found the bottle she grabbed everything, juggling them all in her hands praying they wouldn't slip. "So.. are you okay?" She decided to try once she was kneeling beside the couch.
Lloyd just gave her a look before answering, "I don't want to talk about anything, I jus' want to be there for my teammates." Lloyd said with a stubborn look on his face, hands out ready for the medication.
Nya handed him the Strepsil packet for him to fumble with on his own, she could never open those things. "You can be there for your teammates by resting and getting better." She handed Lloyd the glass before opening the ibuprofen bottle and knocking it against her palm, spilling out way more than needed. She handed Lloyd one, which he accepted graciously. "I'll leave it here, but you can only take one every five hours.
The kid didn't seem too happy about the 'five hours' part but despite it all, he didn't complain, instead sucking on the lemon flavored medication disguised as candy.
Silence fell over them before Nya asked, "Where'd Kai go?"
"I told him he had to get some sleep" Lloyd stifled through a yawn so Nya barely caught it.
"And he listened to you?" She was surprised, usually it took some courtroom level intervention or Zane listing off the effects of sleep deprivation to get him to finally listen to them all and hit the hay. He must've been exhausted, or maybe Lloyds gotten better with his arguments.
"I threatened to jump off the side of the bounty if he didn't, plus i told him he smelt worse than inside the cursed realm." He said with a smirk. -And that would do it, pretty solid argument if she does say so herself. I mean she certainly wouldn't take any chances with that as the threat-
"I'm sure he didn't like that" She said, a smile on her face as her eyes drifted shut.
Lloyd moved some of the blankets over to his side, scooting over to the end of the couch. "Jay said he was out like a light, which is good, he should be resting." Nya agreed with that anyway, Jay was probably out as well considering he never came back in, or just traumatized by the bathroom. "You should as well." He finished, patting his hand onto the seat next to him." Nya didn't bother protesting instead just climbing onto the couch and letting Lloyd drape the blankets over her as he cuddled into her side. She hadn't noticed how tired she was.
"You want anything to eat."
"Bleh, so I can throw it up again in five minutes, no thanks." Lloyd shifted, lifting his legs into his chest.
"You sure? I could make you some plain toast."
"You mean hand me a piece of bread from the cupboard."
"And put it in the toaster, not to mention the plate I'd have to get" Nya wrapped an arm around his shoulder.
"Gosh how would I get by without you."
"Good that you'll never have to figure it out."
Lloyd moved a bit closer at that, nuzzling his face into her side and grabbing onto her tightly. As all the images of the battle and Morro and Lloyd, cold, wet, scared Lloyd flashed through her mind, she held him tighter. Knowing he was right there with her was making everything okay, maybe they would be okay, maybe they could fix it. Lloyd was warm and alive and home.
Just as Nya was about to drift off into the peaceful land of sleep, Lloyd spoke just above a whisper, so quiet that she almost didn't hear it. "Thank you for making me feel safe."
"Always green bean." She paused. "I'll always be here."
