"Peace? Is that what they truly want? What about the children they murdered? These monsters weren't so peaceful when they encountered human children!" Those were the words that woke me up amidst the fiasco that was Monsters of the Underground trying to be accepted into the human world. Words that urked me. Not in anger against the Monsters but in annoyance at the hypocrisy of human 'superiority'. "Ever since these monsters were first sealed away, eight children fell down that hole. And only one comes back alive and that one demands we show them peace?!" This was not looking good for the Monsters and their human ambassador... Frisk, I think their name was. "If we show them peace, who knows what will happen to the rest of our children!" Fear mongering. Great way to get the crowd chattering and end in the judge slamming his gavel... and then comes a break in the talking for the Jury to make their decision. In the lobby area, I could see Frisk and the Monsters who came with her panicking about what to do in one corner and the self absorbed bastard that was the head of the Monster Eradication Organisation, or MEO for short, standing smugly and proudly in one corner... gods, his face is looking punchable right now.
I am snapped out of my imagination to punch the guy when some news lady and her camera carrying lacky get in my face. "Excuse me, miss. As a member of the public, what are your thoughts on these child murdering monsters?" I know what she wants me to say. She's hoping I say something awful, rally the public behind MEO and then demand for their annihilation. Unfortunately for her, I'm more for the theatrics and she wont get my answer until the jury makes theirs... which at this point is all but guaranteed. I put my headphones on and blast music, realigning my shades on my face as I wait for the defendants and prosecutors to re-enter the 'negotiations' if you can even call them that. These talks started this year but Monsters had broken the barrier 10 years ago. They were just too scared to approach human civilization, rightly so too.
"Court is back in session. Everyone, return to your seats." A security guard announced loudly, his voice carrying across the lobby. I turned off my music and walked into the courtroom, heading to my seat at the back of the room where my megaphone awaited to be used. I watched as everyone else poured in, Frisk and their Monster friends doing so timidly while the MEO head honcho did so with a prideful stride. Frisk put up a real good case, talking about changes, necessities and the such but they never talked about the other children and thats where they lost the case.
"The court has come to a conclusion." The judge bellowed the words not long after everyone took their seats. "The Monsters of the Underground are to return or be eradicated should they resist." This judge really doesnt beat around the bush... thankfully, neither do I. As everyone mumbles and chatters, the prosecution practically celebrating and the Monsters practically crying, I could see Frisk shaking in defeat.
"Guess it's show time." I muttered these words as I grabbed my megaphone and stood up. The shrill of the speaker activating causing a couple people around me to stop talking. I put my mouth to the speaker and took a breath. "Objection, your honour!" By the time the last syllable had left my mouth, everyone turned to look at me. No turning back now.
"You cannot possibly object now. It's too late... whoever you are." the MEO executive really is full of himself, declaring those words like they're true. Time to prove him wrong.
"You say that and yet I just did." I stop using the megaphone and toss it aside, walking up to the main area. "Your honour, I get it. Some rich upstart with a whole organisation comes in here, speaks fancy words and pretends to care about children and it tugs at your heartstrings. But theres one key detail you're overlooking." I could feel the MEO executives eyes boring into me at the fact I called him an upstart and I could tell the judge was tempted to throw me out the courtroom but as sure as flowers bloom in spring, I knew curiosity would get the judge.
"What is this 'key detail, young lady?" I grinned widely and begun tying my hair up into a bun as the judge asked those words.
"History, your honour. Humans were expanding too fast so we engaged the Monsters in bloody combat and we won with our sheer numbers. Monsters were forced underground, sealed away and then decades passed." I stated these words as simply as if telling a grown adult how a tap works.
"I dont possibly see how that has any effect on the current circumstances. So would you care to explain?" There it is, the curious desire to know more. This judge is far too easy to read.
"The first human to fall was Chara. A young child who was ostracized for their red eyes. Possibly pushed into the mountain, rather than fell. The second human, Anah. A young girl who wanted to explore and was left unwatched. Took one misstep. The third human, Gabriel. A young boy who loved boxing and wanted to train in the mountains like his favourite comic book martial artists. Took a leap of faith. The fourth human, Sadako. A young girl who loved ballet but was turned away because 'her balance was off' so she took off for a mountain, the perfect place to test ones balance. Problem is she lost her footing. The fifth human, Azim. A young boy who loved his reading and sought-after knowledge despite his young age. He delved too deep in the mountain. The sixth human, Charity. A young girl who wanted to find wild fruits to use for her cooking and add that extra flair. Only to pick the wrong tree. The seventh human, Justice. A young boy who heard of children disappearing in the mountains so he wanted to go save them. Only to lose sight of what was in front of him. No-"
"We know all this and it just reinforces my point th-" Now I am upset. This MEO head honcho interrupted me and acted like he fucking knew all this.
"Shut your slimy mouth before I freeze it shut for you!" The room got exceptionally colder and I cursed myself mentally as I made the mistake of using my Soul in the courtroom. I took a breath and resumed talking before anyone could butt in. "Now, lets go back to Chara. A couple years after their disappearance, a strong Monster left the barrier with body entow and didnt hurt anyone, even when being barraged. This Monster has not been documented amongst any of the Monsters that left the Underground meaning that Monster perished. That Monster, despite taking fatal damage and despite being extremely powerful, didnt hurt anyone. And judging by documented appearance of said Monster, I can say without a doubt, this Monster was the child of Asgore Dreemurr who is here with us today. After countless decades of being locked away and adopting a human child only to lose both that human and your own Monster child... what would you expect from any sane person? And heres the truth. Asgore alone took the lives of each 6 children that fell after Chara. And you want to judge the entire Monster race? To threaten them with eradication?!" The room was beginning to boil now. I am slowly losing control of my Soul and that would cost me everything. I need to breathe. To relax. '1... 2... 3...' Let the courtroom take in the information, the words while you breathe. '1... 2... 3...' The room finally started to return to normal temperature.
"You... may have a point, young lady. But the decision has al-" No, I was not going to let the Judge finish that sentence.
"Decisions change all the time. Decisions on larger things such as war. Do you want to go down in history as the judge who condemned an entire species to death over the actions of one enfuriated father? Or the judge who believed in peace between races?" There it is, the words I needed to get out.
"I..." The judge took a deep breath. Come on, say what I want you to say. "Please, leave me with the Jury... We must talk on our decision."
"No need, your honour." One of the Jury spoke up. I knew he was a father. I made sure to do research on all the jury throughout the case. This is the key thing to do with legal cases of all kinds, appeal to the jury. "We have made our decision." He turned to the other Jurors, all of which were family people in some form or another. I couldnt stop myself from smiling. I know whats coming next. "We believe peace talks should begin. However Asgore Dreemurr must still be puni-"
"Asgore Dreemurr will work in a public sector, preferably as a child health worker so he can give life to children, rather than take it away. Also that way he can bond with children in a way he had abandoned. That bond would then be a constant reminder of his crimes and the ultimate guilt will act as a true punishment." I then froze as I may have gotten ahead of myself. The entire time I was speaking, I didnt even look towards Frisk or the Dreemurrs and now I finally have... they're smiling. This is good. I then notice the Jury nodding and my eyes widen. Thank fuck for the shades I'm wearing otherwise people would see me tearing up.
"Then it is settled." The ring of the gavel striking the block fills the courtroom and everything is finalised. "Asgore Dreemurr will be punished with the guilt of the lives he has taken while working the public sector. And true peace talks between the humans and Monsters shall begin."
"B-But your honour. These monsters, the-"
"It is final!" I grin over at the MEO executive as he is shot down and I turn to leave the courthouse without another word. My work here is done.
As I take a step outside the courthouse, I am stopped by some press... the same press who tried to question me in the lobby. "Buzz off. You got your views and ratings." I wave them off, hoping they'll leave me be but they just follow behind me, asking questions.
"But please, who are you? Were you planning your interruption? Do you understand the risks of what you have done?" I couldn't care less however thanks to me being distracted with ignoring them, I am now face to face with a guy who I can tell really is not happy.
"Can I help y-" Before I can finish my question, I felt the familiar pain of a fist in my face. I was also now being blinded by the sunlight as my shades are shattered... thank fuck they weren't my Lucky Shades.
"You monster fucker!" I am now feeling pain of a second punch followed by a kick. This guy just wont stop hitting me. Bad news for him though, security is nearby.
"Down on the ground!" I hear the thud of bodies hitting the floor as security tackles the man and I stumble to my feet, wiping blood from my nose. "Are you okay, miss?" I look up at the security guy who has helped me to my feet but I can barely make out his appearance in the bright light of the sun.
"Do you have any shades I can borrow?" I motion to my squinting eyes, hoping he notices... which, thankfully, he does. I feel shades being put on me, and I open my eyes properly. "Thanks. I'm alright. Sore ribs, busted nose." I rub my jaw and whince. "Bruised jaw." I watch as the man is carried away by a police officer. I wish I could say he was a relative of one of the 7 dead children, but that would be a lie. No, he's just some guy who thinks humans are superior.
"Please sit down, ma'am. You need to be seen t-" I wave off the security guard and activate my Soul, fixing my nose, realigning my jaw and probably healing a couple cracked ribs. "O-oh, you're a Soul bearer." Soul bearer... People with a Soul, not to be confused with people with a soul. Just like how Monsters ain't to be confused with monsters. "I'm sorry, I didn't know."
"Of course ya didn't know. I'm just like you just with some sparkles." I laugh at my joke... bad idea because the healing ain't done yet. "Ow." Before I can resume walking, I hear a cluster of press asking questions. That can only mean one thing. The prosecution and defendants are leaving the courthouse. I turn to look up and before I can react, I am being glomped by a grown adult who is definitely exceptionally excited.
"Thank you so much, whoever you are."
"Frisk, manners." I hear a soft, feminine voice speak. That must be Toriel. Meaning the person whose chest is smothering was...
"O-oh, I am so sorry." Frisk backs away from me and I take a breath... so, Frisk has breasts, thats mentally noted whether I like it or not.
"It's fine. Didn't wanna see an injustice being done in the name of bullshittery." I am now taking note of the fact Toriel is covering her mouth and Frisk is taken aback by my cussing.
"I-I'm Frisk. This is goat m- T-Toriel. And this is Asgore. What's your name?" Oh, goodie. Now I have to introduce myself... live on television. Gods I hate the press. I suppose this is what I get for involving myself.
"Names Lucy. Lucy Demon. Bearer of the Light Soul." I am now holding my hand out. "Nice to meetcha, Frisk Dreemurr. Bearer of the Determination Soul." I watch as Frisk shakily takes my hand in what, even a blind person could tell, was excitement. I am not going to hear the end of this when I am at work tonight.
