CHAPTER 2

Katara woke up to the pungent smell of hospital disinfectant, invading her nostrils. The room was silent apart from her heavy breathing and the beep beep sound often heard in hospitals that indicated that she was still among the living. She slowly opened her eyes, squinting in an attempt to adjust her eyes to the very bright room. She glanced around and took in the deserted, blue and white colour schemed hospital bedroom.

How long have I been here? She shut her eyes, trying to remember what had exactly happened. Then it all came back to her like a ton of bricks; the show, everyone swaying to her music, then Boom.. the gunshots. All she could remember was the blood gushing out from her abdomen and the cold feeling in her body. She jerked herself upwards to examine her stomach, when an intense pain shot through from her head to the rest of her body.

She screamed and fell back into the bed. As she stared at the ceiling, a series of questions was running through her mind; how did I get here? how long have I been out?Her series of questions were interrupted as her mother and father ran into the room.

Kya was full out sobbing "Katara, my baby you're awake!". Her mom was kissing and hugging her tightly, while her dad was holding her hands and smiling at her, worry lines on his face. "Can't breathe" Katara croaked out as her mom continued squeezing her. "Oh sorry, it's just that we thought we lost you" Kya said with renewed tears.

Katara then proceeded to ask her parents how she got there and how long she was out for. Turns out, her stage crew rushed her to the hospital and she was unconscious for two days.

"I'm sorry I worried you guys, the shot came from nowhere."It's ok" said both of her parents, we were just worried. And..Toph called saying she will mess up whoever hurt her best friend." Her mother told her, amusement in her eyes.

Katara chuckled "sounds about right coming from Toph". "We will let you get your rest now" said her dad "but, it is definitely decided that you will be getting a bodyguard to escort you 24/7, no exceptions"

Katara groaned, she knew her life would come to this now. Seeing that there was no way in arguing with her parents, she sighed "fine, but that doesn't mean I like it".

After a few days in the hospital, and a series of tests later, Katara was discharged. The doctors said she was lucky the bullet didn't puncture any major organs. Her best friend Toph and her bodyguard was there to take her home.

"You gone and get yourself shot now SugarQueen, you scared me half to death, and that's saying something" Katara chuckled and rolled her eyes "I didn't ask for some psycho to lunge a bullet in me you know". "Yea yea, just don't ever make me get so damn emotional again" said Toph as she punched her arm good naturedly.

"Ow! I'm still sore and shaken up" shrieked Katara. "I told you many times, that's how I show emotions". "Ok, but atleast give me a warning first" said Katara rubbing her arms. "Talking about that, do you think the shooter was targeting you?" asked Toph, trying to mask her worry. "I don't know Toph, my manager and the police is looking into it" Katara responded looking down.

Toph was Katara's best friend who always look out for her even though she tried to put up a tough exterior. Katara saw right through it and loved her for it. Although Toph was from the wealthiest family in town, she was not happy. Due to her blindness, Toph's parents made her lead a very sheltered life, and treated her like a weakling when she was a very strong willed person. They didn't know the true her, and it made her rebellious. In a sense, it was why Katara didn't want a bodyguard chaperoning her now, she wanted to take charge of her life. But she knew her parents were right. With her career soaring, her popularity was increasing just as much as her enemies. She hated that her parents were right.

"They want to get me a bodyguard now" said Katara quietly. "As if I can't take care of myself" Toph looked at her friend "welcome to my life" she laughed.

Katara glared at her "not funny". "Come on, look at the bright side, maybe this 'bodyguard' will be a mysterious James Bond type to sweep you off your feet, the universe knows you need to get laid already, after that asshole of a boyfriend Jet ruined your life". "Toph!" Katara slapped Toph's shoulder playfully, blushing slightly. "I can feel your heart beat speeding up!" Toph teased. Katara rolled her eyes "Whatever, let's just go before you embarrass me more"

Aang was in desperate need of a job. Ever since his parents died, his life came crashing down. He was depressed and turned to drugs to cope with the loss. It was not until his guardian Gyatso came into his life that it changed for the best. He cleaned up his life, worked out at the gym and went to college. Now, his life was making a turn, but that didn't last, Gyatso lost his job recently due to a financial situation at the work place.

Aang knew he had to find work to help his guardian pay for the bills; that was the least he could do. It was with this thought that he found himself searching through craig's list for anything legal he could do. While scrolling, he came upon a listing for a personal bodyguard, and zoomed in on the requirements.

"Wait, all of these requirements for a straightforward job like this?" He was a bit irritated. Luckily he passed most of not all of them. He skim over the payment being offered and his eyes widened. He figured they had to be very wealthy, and was interested right away. He needed money now. he located the number and made the call.

A/N: second chapter down. I really didn't plan out this story so much.. I was just bored and decided to write. I hope you guys like it. Also some characters might be OOC, it's hard writing Toph. Please like and review.
