Note: Thank you for all of the feedback on the last chapter. I had to take a few days to recover from writing that. Thank you for the continued kind words – to whoever said that they feel lucky to have me in the fandom writing this – I promise that it's me who is lucky to have all of you reading it.

Donna was quiet as she moved her pancakes around her plate at the diner, smiling only at the little girl covered in whipped cream in her arms that she refused to put down in the high chair next to her.

Harvey didn't know what to say to make her feel better after the morning's events, so he ate in silence, as he replayed the conversation with Jim over and over in his head.

He knew that everything he said was because of him; because of their past relationship and the wedge that he drove between them years ago.

You've always taken advantage of her loyalty, the accusation on a loop in his mind.

They rode home in silence, Donna's fingers never leaving Rosie's tiny grasp.

Donna carried Rosie into the condo with Harvey following behind. Turning to him, eye's still puffy, she nodded towards her room "I'm just gonna put her down, and then I think I might lay down myself."

Harvey swallowed hard, as he pulled her in for a kiss. "Take all the time you need."

Harvey checked on Rosie before he slipped outside onto his patio. As he looked out over the city, guilt ran over him.

He couldn't stop thinking about what Jim had said; that Donna had given up everything since she met him.

It had only been two months. Two months since Rosie came into his life, and two months since Donna had changed everything about hers to be there for them.

It was the same thing that Mike had said to him in the bar that day; that she would do anything for him.

He knew that Donna loved him; he knew that she had loved him long before he even realized it. He hated himself for not coming to his senses sooner. Hated that he left her questioning things for so long. Hated that despite her feelings, she was loyal to him even when she didn't know how things would end up between the two of them.

In any other situation Harvey would have relished knowing the power he held over someone, but in this case, it made him feel sick.

Donna woke up hours later as Harvey entered their bedroom, a giggling Rosie in his arms.

The heaviness in her heart lifted slightly as the little girl reached for her. How could anyone not want to be part of this girl's life? she thought to herself as Harvey placed Rosie down on the bed next to her.

"Hey," he said softly, "I was just about to get started on dinner; I was thinking pasta, but is there anything special you'd want?"

Donna sighed as she pulled Rosie into her arms, "I'm not really hungry, Harvey."

He hated seeing her so upset; the sadness in her eyes shattering his heart.

Nodding silently, he got up to leave the room.

"Harvey," Donna started, voice barely above a whisper, "if this doesn't work, if…" she trailed off shaking her head, "you wouldn't…keep her from me..?"

Harvey couldn't believe what she was asking him. He hated her father for everything he said to her that morning, but he hated even more that he put the idea in her head that he was capable of taking their daughter away from her.

Harvey sat back down on the bed, reaching for her hand, his eyes taking in the fear that had washed over her face.

"You became the most important woman in her life the second you showed up here that first morning. Whether we were together or not, that was always going to be the case. Watching the two of you together is the most incredible thing in the world; she's loved you from day one. Sometimes I'm jealous of how she's always calling for you or reaching for you, or that we haven't gotten a dada out of her just yet," he smiled, tickling the little girl. "There is nothing is this world that could make me want to keep the two of you apart."

Donna nodded, smiling, tears filling her eyes.

"But…" Harvey continued, "this" he said, pointing between the two of them, "is going to work," he gave her a smirk, "you're so stuck with me."

Donna let out a laugh for the first time all day, "Thank you, Harvey."

"For what?"

"For making me a mom."

"And I'd do it again," he gave her a playful smirk.

Donna rolled her eyes, as Harvey leaned in for a kiss.

As she pulled back, she let out a heavy sigh. "Would you mind if I take the day tomorrow, and we keep her home from daycare? I don't think I'm going to be any use at the office thinking about this stuff with my dad."

Harvey gave her his signature smile, resulting in a puzzled look on her face.

"Donna," he started, "you already have the day off tomorrow."

"What do you mean... - oh my god Harvey its Halloween." Her eyes went wide as she processed the date. "Between the move and getting everything ready for her birthday I completely forgot. How could I forget about her first Halloween? It's going to be impossible to find a costume this late - " she shook her head, the sadness returning to her eyes.

"Hey," Harvey started, noticing the change in her demeanor, "it's okay, she's still little, she won't even remember –"

"But I'll remember," she cut him off, leaning back against the headboard. "It's my favorite holiday, Harvey; I always wondered what it would be like having kids to dress up and take trick or treating and eat too much candy with," she sighed, "I can't ruin my first chance to make that happen."

"First of all, you aren't capable of ruining anything. Second, I don't think she's ready to be going to town on a king size Snickers bar just yet, so you will be eating too much candy with me," he smiled, "and third, no matter what she wears tomorrow, she's still going to be the cutest kid at the party."

Donna smiled, shaking her head. "Fine, but you're dressing up too."

"Donnaaa," he winced.

"Rosie, say 'pleeeease daddy'" Donna held up the little girl and gave him a little pout.

Harvey rolled his eyes, "Fine, but we are not leaving this building, and you are not sending any pictures to Louis."

Donna welcomed Halloween, last minute as it was, as a distraction from thinking about her dad.

It didn't take long for her to come up with the perfect costume.

Thankfully, one trip to the store was enough for her to pull together the outfits.

When Harvey arrived home that night, he was greeted by Donna at the door.

"Hello Counselor," she said slipping her arms around his neck and pulling him in for a kiss.

As they pulled apart, Harvey looked at Donna, who was wearing jeans and a blue sweater. "I figured you guys would be all dressed up and ready to go by now."

Donna smiled as she grabbed a cop hat from the table behind her.

Raising an eyebrow, Harvey remarked in a low voice, "Do you have handcuffs to go with that, Officer?"

"Yes, but those are for later," she smirked. "Right now, you're wanted in chambers." She motioned towards Rosie's room.

Harvey gave her a skeptical look as he moved towards the nursey.

When he walked into the room, he couldn't hold back his smile.

Sitting on the ground was Rosie, in a little black robe, wearing a tiny wig, waving around a small wooden gavel.

Looking back at Donna leaning against the doorframe watching his reaction, he bent over to scoop up the tiny judge.

"Well hello Your Honor," he said to Rosie, giving her a big kiss. "I would take all of my cases to trial if my judges were as cute as you."

Walking over to Donna, he pulled her into a hug with his free arm, "This is perfect, Donna, thank you."

"I figured it would be easiest if you could just go as yourself," she gave him a knowing smile.

"You know I would have put on any ridiculous costume for you, but I appreciate it."

After an hour at the Halloween party hosted by the condo association, the tiny judge was starting to drift off to sleep on Harvey's shoulder. Saying their goodbyes to their neighbors, they made their way back upstairs.

After putting Rosie to sleep, Harvey found Donna digging through the basket of candy they had collected from the event, wrappers all around her on the couch.

"You really weren't kidding about the candy thing," he gave her a look.

"Harvey, it's like the best part," she retorted, still wearing the cop hat.

He couldn't help but smile. He loved seeing her so happy, especially after the weekend they'd had.

Joining her on the couch, he slipped his arm around her, pulling her in close to him. Dropping his mouth to her ear he whispered, "Now Officer, what were you saying about those handcuffs?"
