I awoke on a random beach, as I do every morning since my mother passed away earlier this year. I'm Ian Lincoln, not related to the president, and I am celebrating my sixteenth birthday on the beach of some amusement park. I walked up and down the beach until I noticed a gate leading into the amusement park with a giant sign that read some words, but they just floated around for me as I was dyslexic. I walked up to the gate and saw an oily teen sitting on a bench scanning people's passes for the park, "Please, wait your turn Miss, I will get to you eventually". The teen's voice cracked as he was going through puberty, but I started to notice that the teen's skin was drenched even more in oily grease that coated his pale skin and the teen's shape started to misshapen. This has happened since my glasses broke a couple weeks ago and I haven't found any tape to fix them.
A giant group of kids and adults walked up to the gate and I took my chance and tried to blend in with the group. My plan worked and got me into the amusement park and I was staring at a giant pole that stretched high into the sky and a disk at the bottom with conjoined seats hanging below waiting for riders. "Welcome to the Windseeker, please watch your limbs as you climb into your seats". The voice over the PA was a teenage girl with a California accent and she opened the ride gate then looked over at me with an evil grin on her face. "Why don't you come take a ride!? There are plenty of seats open". I looked up at the top of the ride and saw a bunch of seagulls flying above the ride. Something about the girl's voice pulled me towards the ride and as I got closer I noticed that this girl was almost irresistible to me. "Wh-wh-what's your name?" I stammered out sounding stupid. "I'm Becky!" she said her evil grin growing wider as the teen sized me up. I noticed that the girl started to smell my hair and she made a noise of delight, like I was a hostess snack. "Oh yes, this ride will be quite enjoyable for you" I smiled at the teen and walked over to my seat.
The seat was painted red and some teen sat in the inside seat, looking like he wanted to scream for help. I sat in the outside seat and waited for Becky to check my safety straps, "Try not to scream too much up there, they hate the noise" Becky then loosened my safety strap and brought down the safety bar so I couldn't reach the buckle. Becky then walked away and I couldn't help but stare at her, she walked with such gracefulness and her figure completed her walk. I turned to the teenage boy beside me, his hair was cut short to a buzz cut and his hands were starting to shake. "Hey don't be scared" I said trying to calm down the boy "These rides are safe" "It's not the ride I'm worried about" they boy said as the ride began to move forward.
The ride, The Windseekeer, spun your around at a semi-slow pace and rose you up into the sky to a great view of the park but as I looked up again, I could see more seagulls flying above the top of the ride, their shapes changing maybe due to my bad eyesight. The boy next to me started to blubber some words out and started to pray "Father, if you can hear me, save me please, I'll give you anything, just don't let me die" the boys eyes shut tight and he began to sob as we approached the top of the ride, the seagulls now looking completely different to me. The once white winged birds were now shining bronze, with becks that looked like they could cut through solid metal. "Oh, GODS!" the boy said as the horror was now dawning on me, I looked around at the other riders and they just looked on, not noticing the metal birds.
The ride reached the top and suddenly stopped moving, we were sitting ducks and the metal birds were starting to fly closer to the seats. I looked down, which was a big mistake, and saw the plummet that was awaiting at the bottom. A bird came in and swiped at my arm leaving behind a sizable scratch. The boy next to me screamed as a bird landed on his and was starting to burrow its claws into his scalp. With a sudden jolt the ride started to spin again but at a much faster pace, soon the slow paced ride was now becoming the thrill ride of the century. The surrounding amusement park became a blur and a loud click was heard then I noticed both the boy next to me and my own lap bar came flying up. Luckily the g-forces from being spun around really fast kept us in our seats but not for long as the ride suddenly stopped again, sending the boy and me out over the beach that I woke up on.
The air whistle passed my ear as I soared through the sky and could only think about the pain that was awaiting me when I eventually hit the water. Time itself seemed to slow down for only a second as I noticed the water rise up to catch me. I flew right into the wave and felt the cool water hit my skin. I was surprised that I felt no pain when splashing into the wave but I quickly swam up to the top and tried to look for the scared teenage boy. I swam across the water looking for the boy but could not see any sign of him. I started to feel a tug on my leg from underneath the water and I looked down to see nothing there. I was suddenly pulled underneath the water and was basically dragged to the bottom against my will.
I started to panic as I didn't catch my breath before being pulled down and knew I was going to drown. I tried to swim up to catch some air but couldn't move from the bottom. I looked around for anything and noticed the teenage boy lying still on the bottom of the water. I started to move towards him and was surprised that I could. I noticed air bubbles coming from around the boy and prayed that some oxygen was getting through somehow. I moved the boy and saw an oxygen tank with a hose spewing air out. I put the hose to my mouth and took in a deep breath and shoved the hose into the passed out boy's mouth. I grabbed the boy and started to swim back to the top and could barely notice the boy's weight at all while I swam us up to the top.
We broke to the surface and I started towards the beach. I pulled the boy out of the water and sat down on the sand not caring that it was clinging to my wet clothes. I started to take in my surroundings when I noticed we were no longer at the amusement park beach. Instead we were sitting next to Long Island Sound and I didn't know how I knew that. I heard coughing from beside me and noticed the boy starting to cough up water and breath rapidly. "Take it easy, sit up and cough it out" I started to pat the boy's back to help expel any water in his lungs when a deep voice came booming through the surrounding trees. "Who dares enter this camp uninvited!?" A man with black curly hair walked onto the beach and he was wearing a purple panther shirt and khakis shorts. The man pointed what looked like a tree branch at us and looked like he wanted to kill us.
"Please, we don't know where we are? We were just attacked by metal birds and came here through… well I don't know how we got here?" I was looking strangely at the man as if I had known him from somewhere but I couldn't see why until I looked at the boy next to me who resembled the man standing in front of us. The man seemed to now notice the other boy and then dropped the branch he was holding "Great! More half bloods!". The sky began to darken and a loud boom of thunder could be heard followed by what sounded like a waterfall from above Ian's head. Ian looked up and saw a trident made from water hanging above his head "Oh, curse the fish kisser for doing this today!".
