Round 2

Ganondorf vs. Mewtwo

Ganondorf leaned leisurely against his sword, a bloodthirsty smile on his face. Mewtwo meanwhile, stood glaring at the camera, arms crossed. These were what the viewers saw as the 'versus' logo was spliced between the two pictures, the black, stenciled font having been the same throughout the entire tournament.

"Ganondorf," Mewtwo warned, "Everything you have ever tried to do has failed. Your numerous attempts at taking over Hyrule, your two attempts at a coup here, all failures."

"Mewtwo will say I failed," Ganondorf countered, sitting rigidly, his teeth gnashing in righteous fury, "But he intentionally stayed away from Subspace, for no other reason than cowardice."

"Ganondorf, like Roy, is nothing more than a hotheaded louse," Mewtwo explained, the video package now cut to him, "Like Roy, he will be defeated swiftly,"

"I have been training," seethed Ganondorf, "These simple-minded fools that have mocked me in the past are only obstacles on the path to something that is inevitably mine, The Smash Championship."

"It will be my honor to eliminate the blowhard once and for all," Mewtwo hissed.

"Finally, Mewtwo, I will crush you under my booted heel," snarled Ganondorf.

"A decade's long rivalry come to pass," 9-Volt announced as he got his cue from the director, "What do you think Cranky?"

"You know how I feel about the Pokey Man boy," Cranky grumbled, "I'm rooting for Ganondorf!"

"Well luckily," 9-Volt said through gritted teeth, "These predictions aren't up to you. That honor goes to our expert on video games, Oracle AKA Futaba Sakura! Whaddya say, friend?"

"Gotta root for the last Pokemon left and defy the old man you've got next to ya. It's Mewtwo time baby!" she said, the camera cutting away from her workspace as soon as it had cut to it.

"Thanks! Now, let's throw it down to entrances!"

Foreboding slams of an organ keyboard blared over the speakers, as Ganondorf was carried atop a throne by three Redead, grinning mischievously as the entire stadium erupted in boos. An enormous sign held by six Gerudo women read "Dethrone the king,"

"Not a popular guy, that Ganondorf," muttered 9-Volt.

"Well, that's what happens when you enslave a place I guess," Cranky mused, "But I'd rather have a tyrant go on than hear the nerd talk about Pokemon again.

Ganondorf was let down by the ReDead stepping off the thrown, smiling and waving to even more boos. His expression transformed from triumphant to disgusted, twisting in disgust as the pre-recorded voice of Mewtwo asked, "Why am I here?"

The GaMetal version of Mewtwo Battle blared to life as Mewtwo walked out to a smattering of cheers drowned out by boos, the Pokemon floating out of the tunnel, drifting straight to the center of the arena without fanfare.

"Mewtwo getting more cheers this time," 9-Volt observed.

"Yeah," Cranky grumped, "Because kids like you think he's cool. Can't imagine why."

"Hey! Pokemon: The First Movie was a cultural touchstone!" 9-Volt shouted.

"Movie's made out of video games, preposterous. At least I'm being played by the great Fred Armisen in the Mario movie, which might not be out by the time this is finished."

9-Volt could only sigh as Mills Frames appeared through the floor.

"The following contest is a Round 2 match in the Super Smash Brothers Ultimate tournament! Introducing first, to my left, he comes to us from the Legend of Zelda universe, also representing the Wario Family Wah-ffice, he is The King of Darkness, he is GANONDORF!"

Ganondorf laughed at the boos he received, crossing his arms nonchalantly.

"And introducing next, to my left," Mills continued, "He comes to us from the Pokemon Universe, he is the Genetic Pokemon, he is MEWTWO!"

Mewtwo simply closed his eyes, crossing his arms in response to the 50-50 split of cheers and boos his announcement received.

"Now, please direct your attention to the video board," Mills explained.

Many stages scrolled past, but the screen ultimately settled on a postcard photo of New Donk City.

"The stage is New Donk City!" Mills announced.

"The lack of Donkey Kong stages is noted," hissed Cranky Kong.

"But it's random!" insisted a bewildered 9-Volt.

"Or so you think," smugly sniped Cranky.

"Okay Smashers, you know the rules," Mills began, "3-stock, items medium. Are you both ready!"

Arms still crossed, the heated rivals nodded, disappearing as soon as they did.

Stage: New Donk City

Rules: 3-Stock, items medium

Music: Jump Up Superstar (Full Band Performance

3

Ganondorf stepped carefully out of a portal of darkness.

2

Appearing in his own shadowy flourish, Mewtwo gingerly floated down to the ground, arms crossed.

1

Both rivals clenched their fists, shadows aflame in their clenched fists.

GO!

Mewtwo immediately teleported. Ganondorf simply stepped forward, holding out his hand. When Mewtwo reappeared, all Ganondorf had to do was clench to have Mewtwo in a chokehold. Flames erupted from Ganondorf's hand, the Pokemon grunting as he collapsed to the floor.

"Do you not think I've studied your every move abomination?" Ganondorf sneered, squatting down and brandishing his sword.

Mewtwo teleported behind Ganondorf in silence. With a hearty laugh, Ganondorf jabbed his sword behind him, but Mewtwo parried it. The sound of a Shadow Ball being charged was all Ganondorf needed to hear to wheel around, cleaving the sword down on an unprepared Mewtwo.

"You play recklessly abomination," Ganondorf tutted, "I should have known. All your insults are simply lip service when truthfully, you fear my power."

Mewtwo gracefully flipped through the air, landing right at Ganondorf's feet. Again, he swung his sword down, but Mewtwo parried it. An exertion of psychic power staggered Ganondorf, but two light jumps and two Shadow Claws sent Ganondorf to his rear. On impulse, Ganondorf executed Wizard's Foot, Mewtwo teleporting away.

"It looks like Mewtwo is using Ganondorf's arrogance against him."

"Sounds on brand to me 9-Volt," Cranky agreed.

Unfortunately for Mewtwo, the hovering platform ended its ride atop a skyscraper depositing Mewtwo onto a higher platform than Ganondorf. Ganondorf charged underneath the platform, slicing his sword upward, connecting with Mewtwo. Ganondorf, a mad smile on his face, swung wildly, first upward, then in vertical downward slices, as Mewtwo teleported around him.

"You evade me because you fear me," growled Ganondorf, "Fight like a man!"

Mewtwo teleported across the stage, charging a Shadow Ball. Ganondorf spied an assist trophy behind him, backstepping with confidence, holding it up in the air. Ganondorf crossed his arms, smiling as a replica of Alucard went to do his bidding. If Mewtwo felt fear, his expression didn't show it, even in the face of being pelted with wild sword slashes. Alucard knocked Mewtwo into the air. The Pokemon had enough wherewithal to teleport to avoid Alucard's patented bat charge, but unfortunately, this left him open for a Ganondorf sword swing, which knocked him into the Blast Zone.

Ganondorf: 3

Mewtwo: 2

Alucard patrolling the lower platform like a man possessed, Mewtwo danced around it with timely teleports, only to teleport right into a Warlock Punch.

"Ooooh," 9-Volt groaned, "That is not the kind of damage he needed right out of the gate."

"Bah, that's why I never liked those floaty, defensive types. You can only dance around so much before an experienced fighter like Ganondorf memorizes your steps, and it happens quicker than these idiots usually think it does," lectured Cranky

Mewtwo floated to the platform but fell into Alucard's final volley of slashes before he disappeared. Much to Mewtwo's annoyance, Ganondorf had found a Home-Run Bat and, with an elated smile, was practicing his swings. Mewtwo teleported as close as he could, teleporting behind Ganondorf on the arc of his swing, and throwing a Smoke Bomb as it appeared on the field.

"Can't hit a baseball if you can't see," 9-Volt quipped as smoke enveloped the Gerudo King.

"Well, I can," Cranky blurted.

By now, the smoke had consumed them both, and in the fracas, Ganondorf's damage spiked from 48 percent to 52 percent after Mewtwo discharged some electricity, and then spiked to 88, Ganondorf steaming with dark energy. A green Koopa Shell rocketed away from the Smoke as Ganondorf attempted to use Flame Choke to get to the platform, but failed, falling limply into the Blast Zone.

"It's as I said," Mewtwo growled, glaring down at the colorful explosion, "You can't do anything right."

Ganondorf: 2

Mewtwo: 2

As quickly as Ganondorf had jumped off the Revival Platform, Mewtwo had charged a Shadow Ball. However, Ganondorf picked up a Launch Star just as it appeared, settling it just above him. Ganondorf charged, jumping behind Mewtwo. Just as Mewtwo got into position to launch the Shadow Ball, Ganondorf grabbed him by the throat.

"Oh can't I?" hissed Ganondorf.

Nonchalantly uppercutting Mewtwo into the Launch Star, his booming laugh echoed off the old metal of New Donk City Hall as the unwitting Pokemon got caught in the Launch Star and was fired into the upper Blast Zone.

Ganondorf: 2

Mewtwo: 1

"Tough break, losing a stock with so little damage, you always hate to see it," 9-Volt said somberly.

"I hate to even paraphrase one of the pretty anime boys, but he'll get no sympathy from me. Mewtwo let Ganondorf dictate the pace of the match, and whether or not he gets that through his giant head of his will mean the difference between winning and losing. "

Mewtwo jumped off the Revival Platform, charging into a palm strike by Ganondorf. Mewtwo staggered, electricity coursing through him, but he charged again, only to bear the brunt of Ganondorf's sword once again. As the platform stopped off at the very top of City Hall, Mewtwo created a galaxy of psychic energy in his hand, the power of this contraption assaulting Ganondorf as the platform gave way, depositing him onto City Hall. Snarling like an animal, Ganondorf unsheathed his sword again, only to be hit with Disable.

"Hmph, your natural state," remarked Mewtwo as Ganondorf drunkenly staggered.

Exerting a blast of psychic energy from his cupped hands sent Ganondorf flying to the leftmost floating platforming, giving the 150th Pokemon time to charge a fully formed Shadow Ball. Ganondorf attempted to close the distance with Wizard Foot, but Mewtwo used Teleport. A fully charged Shadow Ball narrowly missed the top of Ganondorf's head as he waited until the right time to launch up with a Dark Dive, but electricity jolted in the air around Mewtwo, smothering Ganondorf in electric shocks.

"See what I mean boy?" Cranky shouted, "Now Mewtwo controls the pace.

A Dark Dive was met with Mewtwo jumping into a Tail whip, Mewtwo avoiding a clubbing blow as Ganondorf jumped to the City Hall platform's center with a clubbing blow.

"You will be destroyed," Ganondorf frothed, "So declares the king."

Ganondorf feebly launched several Warlock Punches in succession, Mewtwo teleporting around each, peppering electric jots and Shadow Claws in as he went. Mewtwo hit Disable, only to teleport off the stage.

"I WILL END YOU!" slurred Ganondorf as he shook himself awake.

On instinct, Ganondorf readied his sword, failing to realize that Mewtwo was underneath him, earning a Tail Whip for his trouble. As Ganondorf flopped into the air, smacking the ground and scurrying up, Mewtwo floated just out of range of Ganondorf's kicking range, allowing the Gerudo King to whiff a strike with his long legs, hitting Disable once again on the off-guard king. Cocking back and mustering all the psychic energy he could, he blasted that energy onto Ganondorf, rocketing him into the Blast Zone.

Ganondorf: 1

Mewtwo: 1

Ganondorf wasted no time upon being revived, overpowering Mewtwo with a clubbing blow as the caped king fell, with such force it spiked him off the ground and into the air, the Pokemon's body limply flailing in the air. Laughing, Ganondorf squatted down.

"For all that supposed effort in your creation, it was for naught!"

A perfectly timed Wizard's Foot punted Mewtwo into the Blast Zone for a final time.

GAME!

In the Smash Mansion courtyard, Ganondorf pounded his fist together, sticking out his open palm with a mighty "HA!" in an all too familiar Gerudo warrior kata.

GANONDORF WINS!

As the splash screen declared his victory, a wicked smile overtook Ganondorf, still frozen at the end of his kata. Meanwhile, Mewtwo sat eyes closed, teleporting away when Rita went to interview him.

Mister Zero stumbled into the shot, Ganondorf now in Tunnel A, arms crossed.

"A competitive win…" Mister Zero's voice wavered.

"Pah!" Ganondorf balked, "Competitive! How preposterous! Wisdom is a beautiful tool, but Wisdom matters not if you have the power to squish the wisest brain into a gelatinous paste with a thought, and that's what I hope Zelda is to learn when she advances to the next round to face me.

Ganondorf marched up the tunnel, kicking open the door to the Smashers' Box with the expected adulation from the Wah-ffice, only for Lucina to push through the crowd, "You seem to have neglected me in your post-match interview," the blue-haired princess growled.

"Because unlike Princess Zelda, who possesses the Triforce of Wisdom " Ganondorf huffed, "You are nothing without your betrothed. When it comes to blood, you are nothing but an oaf with a sword, like your father, and your ancestors before you."

Robin expertly whisked Lucina back to her seat, the room not even needing a prompt from the Admin team to be quiet.

"Pit, you are in Tunnel A," ROB explained, "Mister Game and Watch, you are in Tunnel B,"

To this, Game and Watch simply tutted, teetering down the tunnel, his only words echoing up the cylinder.

"You were one of the good ones,"

Pit cocked his head, as the Kid Icarus Trio stood, "What did he mean by that Lady Palutena,"

"Probably something about our belated transition out of the 8-bit realm. But you are just as fine in this form as you were in that one. Pit, I believe in you," Palutena encouraged the captain of her guard softly.

"You mean as fine a warrior, right?" Dark Pit teased.

Palutena blushed, blushing even redder at Dark Pit's devious smile.

"Yes," coughed Palutena.

"It's something you and I agree on Palutena," Dark Pit nodded.

"Woah, you believe in me Pitoo!" Pit's voice cracked in shock.

"It's.."

Dark Pit closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, "It's not so much that, it's that if you lose, we have to listen to Game and Watch gloat for two whole days."

Pit blinked, one eye after the other, processing what Dark Pit had said to him. Suddenly, he hoisted his bow arm into the air.

"Victory! For Lady Palutena, for the piece of Smash Mansion!"

And with that, Pit took to flight, zooming down Tunnel A.
