In this Ocean, So Open and Fair
By SMYGO4EVA
It wasn't every day Korra got to go on a cruise, and especially being the Avatar, that usually complicated quite a lot. Things were different now, and she could finally be at ease, as she looked over the waters.
At the stern of the ship, Korra stared out into the ocean, the wind in her face, and the scent of the salt-sweet waters just so pleasant. There were other people out and about inside the ballroom, enjoying themselves and having a good time, but she paid no mind to them.
She was the only one looking forward to watching the ocean stretch far and beyond.
"Korra, there you are." Asami's voice broke her train of thoughts, and she turned to see Asami walking up to her, and she smiled as her wife joined her, standing by the railing.
"Quite a sight, isn't it? The ocean?" Asami said aloud, looking in the same direction as Korra. She brushed a stray lock of hair under her ear, inhaling and exhaling the salty sea air.
"It sure is, and wow, it's so vast." Korra replied, a smile growing on her face. "I still can't believe we're on this cruise, and all expenses paid too!"
Asami nodded, smiling. "Yup, it turns out that having connections does have its perks."
"This, this still feels unreal, like something out of a dream, you know?" Korra said aloud.
"Right." Asami answered back.
"And to be honest, I didn't think I would get this far." Korra began, and her eyes cast down, a surging feeling that she said too much in her chest.
Asami bristled, moving closer to the Avatar. "What do you mean by that?" She asked, concern tinged in her voice.
"I just…" Korra spoke, and then she lifted her gaze, her eyes right into Asami's own. "I didn't think I would get pass the last three years, what I had to go through, what we both had to, and…"
Korra stilled, and Asami reached out a hand, placing it on her own; her touch was so soft, so comforting, and oh so needed.
"I'm here, Korra, I'm here." She murmured, her voice steadying.
Korra allowed herself a slight smile at her wife's words, and she felt the tightness in her chest slowly loosen, her heartbeat at ease.
"You're right, I'm here, and you're here." Korra said aloud, calmness settling over her. "We've been a lot, and we are here now."
"We are here now, you're right about that." Asami replied, stepping closer.
Korra felt her face turn pink, a small smile growing. "So what happens now?" She asked.
"We should just enjoy the moment, and we should enjoy ourselves." She answered, and with that said, she placed a gentle kiss on the Avatar's cheek.
Korra had to hold herself up, her hand on the railing, so that she wouldn't pass out from such a warm and loving gesture.
Pulling away, Asami looked around, and saw that no one else paid attention to them, and they were off to their own devices.
"Maybe we should head back to our cabin, somewhere more private."
Korra nodded, now blushing. "Sure, but first…"
"First what?" Asami asked, though she had an idea.
Korra leaned in, and she pressed her lips on Asami's, a kiss soft and sweet, with Asami gladly returning such a gesture.
They wished this moment to never end.
And that's a wrap on Pride Month 2024!
I hope you all enjoyed my fics for this year, and that you all had a good month, even though things seem pretty grim now.
I also hope you're all staying happy, healthy, and safe.
Any comments/thoughts you have are welcome!
