Bash at Big Battlefield: Event 51 Tribute

As the two teams of three took their positions bereft of any fanfare, Sans mused, "Ya know, it just hit me, why didn't we call this Event 52?"

Grumbles of disapproval came from the Melee veterans.

"Ganondorf, Bowser and Mewtwo staged a coup d'etat of the Mansion," Roy explained, "This isn't something to be made light of."

Sans gestured animatedly down to the villains side of the field. While Ganondorf and Bowser glanced at each other with insidious grins, Mewtwo stood away from them, arms crossed.

"These three goobers?" Sans balked, "They took this place hostage?"

"We had less resources then," Luigi stated matter of factly.

Marth nodded, "Less security, much to Master Hand's eternal regret I'm sure."

"Sure," came the flippant reply of Sans "I just can't imagine these three idiots being a threat."

"Trust me, they were," said Ness, "I'll never forget being strapped to these chairs."

"Aye," Young Link nodded, "Being made to watch Mario, older me and Pikachu fight Ganondorf, Mewtwo, and that dreaded Giga Bowser was…frightening to say the least."

"Oh Goddesses, look at him," Toon Link gestured down to the battlefield.

It was then everyone in the viewing auditorium above noticed Link chattering more than usual with Peach and Pikachu, the princess and the Pokemon nodding attentively

"What's a with him-a?" Wario whined.

"Something happened in our timeline and as a result Link got...apt at engineering overnight," Zelda sighed.

"Link's a train bf, that's hilarious," Joker laughed.

"How dare you, cashin' in funny in the bank on me," Sans mock-whined.

The jovial chatter was cut by the canned voice of Mills Frame echoing over Big Battlefield's.

"The music is Multi-Man Melee Version 2! The match begins, in 3, 2, 1, GO!"

"Like we talked about!" was Link's response to the match beginning.

Peach nodded, "Right you are Link!"

Link placed a bomb on the ground, Peach wacking the remote explosive with her golf club. As it spun through the air, it was activated, exploding right into Ganondorf's vicinity.

"What the?" roared Bowser, himself fending off Link's bombs with his fire breath, to no avail.

"It's simply inertia," Mewtwo grumbled, teleporting away.

Unfortunately, when the man-made Pokemon found himself further down the expansive battleground, he found Pikachu smiling up at him.

"I've wanted another shot at you for so long," Pikachu said, squatting onto all fours.

Mewtwo scoffed, "Why not simply ask to train with me then?"

"You got eliminated too early for it to matter,"

"As did you," Mewtwo sneered.

PIkachu shrugged, "Fair enough,"

And so, the scene was set. Bowser found himself flummoxed by Peach and Link's explosive tandem golf game, and Pikachu zipped around Shadow Balls. Only when a blast of Confusion from Mewtwo nip at Pikachu's heels did the electric mouse lurch out of position, and only then did Ganondorf spring into action, slamming Pikachu down to the ground with a clubbing blow.

"Pikachu!" Link called.

Jumping into the fray without hesitation, he took a Warlock Punch from an awaiting Ganondorf.

"You see?" chortled Ganondorf as Link collapsed, "I knew that he could not resist assisting a burdened ally. Tis the power of the Triforce of Courage."

"Do you wish for a pat on the back for knowing basic things about the power that drives your world," Mewtwo snapped.

Ganondorf's haughty smile gave way to grunt of shock and then a deep frown, "Just keep your eyes on these two, it's only a matter of time before…"

"OUCH! DAMN TURNIP!" roared Bowser.

Before the other two former villains could register what was happening, a Bob-omb landed in between them, scorching them both.

"Bowser! How could you let such an item pass you by!" screamed Ganondorf.

"I didn't," Bowser grumbled, "She pulled it like a turnip."

"Ah," Ganondorf sneered, "The odds may have weighed in your favor, but unfortunately for you…"

Peach lobbed yet another bomb, once again scorching the villanous tag team.

"What the…"

"It would seem that the odds as described by Master Hand were a farce."

"SKULL BASH!" Pikachu screamed.

"EEYAH!" Link cried, spinning his body in a barrage of slashes.

Daisy snorted in mischievous laughter from the Smashers Box as Bowser brought some much-needed unhindered assistance to the villain team.

"You helped Peach figure out something like that?" Daxter cried.

"It helps when you're among the most influential people here," grumbled Akechi.

"Nope, that shit's-a classified," Luigi shook his head.

"Seconded," Mario offered from the production station.

"Yeah," Ness confirmed, "It wasn't the brothers, it was…"

But Daisy was already casting mischievous eyes to the culprit, Kazuya, and everyone else had caught on.

"I had my men run some calculations. The described odds were farce, not unlike a casino."

"You mean I could've induced a misfire on my Green Missile this entire time?" Luigi cried.

"You've here since the first tournament, and you're asking me?" laughed Kazuya.

"Master Hand made all that up to stop us from getting too powerful," Daisy explained.

"No Luigi, that's not true. you didn't just pull yourself up by your bootstraps, have billions in the bank, and a squad of goons to do hard stuff for you." Pacman joked.

Kazuya's red eye flashed, "My father respected you for reasons I cannot fathom, and that will only get you so many jokes at my expense."

Pacman shrugged, "Because we had a good time at my party about a decade back."

"Hey," shouted Quinn, "I'm trying to watch the fight!"\

Back on Big Battlefield, it had been a war of attrition, with neither side yielding despite heavy damage incurred on both teams.

All of that changed when a Smash Ball appeared.

"Mewtwo, Bowser, hold thesed heroes back.

As Mewtwo grunted, wordlessly providing cover fire, Bowser huffed, placing his hands on his hips, "I didn't hear a 'please' in that."

Ganondorf ignored him, breaking open the Smash Ball and receiving its power. As quickly as Beast Ganon appeared, it charged across the stage, knocking all three of his opponents into the Blast Zone.

Pikachu: 2

Ganondorf: 3

Bowser: 3

Mewtwo:3

Another Hylian remote bomb, followed by a Peach Bomb immediately knocked the opposing team asunder as a Blue Shell appeared.

"Link, Pikachu, keep them back," Peach ordered.

As arrows and Thundershocks flew Peach grabbed the spikey shell, throwing it into the air. The infamous Mario Kart item hovered in the air as if its impact zone was ever in doubt, eventually descending upon Ganondorf and company, knocking them into the Blast Zone!

Pikachu: 2

Ganondorf: 2

Bowser: 2

Mewtwo: 2

However, the heroes' gambit was short lived, as Link immediately found himself in the fray again, constantly thrown by Mewtwo into Bowser's Bowser Bomb technique. Pikachu charged into the fray undetered.

"PIKA!" he cried.

Now it was the villains' turn to be at their opponent's mercy, Pikachu's Quick Attack piling on the damage quickly.

"OH NO YOU DON'T!" roared Ganondorf

Ganondorf charged, grabbing a still-recovering Link by the throat. When the flames of the Flame Choke technique evaporated, Ganondorf simply threw him tinto the fray, his equipment crunching and clanging as he collided with Pikachu. Bowser then leapt into the air, spiking Link and Pikachu into the Blast Zone.

"NO!" Peach cried.

Ganondorf was already in prime position before Peach dove into the fray.

"WARLOCK PUNCH!"

Gerudo fist collided with the jaw of Mushroom Kingdom royalty, rocketing her into the Blast Zone1

'QUICK ATTACK!" cried Pikachu.

And like that, the Melee interlopers found themselves in the same predicament, caught in an unending dash of electric shocks.

"How could this get any worse," Bowser whined.

"Oh, my darling, you have no idea," purred a much deeper, yet all-too-familiar voice.

The three looked over. In the ensuing fracas, Peach had gotten a Super Mushroom, and plucked a Bob-omb.

"You will not speak again, for you bring bad luck to us," Ganondorf hissed at Bowser.

"Noted," Bowser squeaked through pained grunts.

It was here that the inevitable happened, the giant bomb colliding with all three villains, sending them to the Blast Zone!

Link: 1

Pikachu: 1

Ganondorf: 1

Bowser: 1

Mewtwo: 1

The Smashers' Box watched intently as the two teams charged below them, the war of attrition that the exhibition had begun with was resumed.

"Man, I hope Peach's team wins," sighed Luigi, "It'll fire me up seeing her on the victory podium."

"Same," Daisy nodded.

"You should have no reservations," Kazuya added, "Your training has been obvious, and your tenacity reminds me of my father. Barring the Pokemon Trainer, I would say you are most likely to win the tournament."

"Oh wow, I..um...wasn't expecting a compliment from you."

"Don't let it go to your head," Kazuya snapped.

"Oh, no sir, definitely won't," Luigi squeaked.

With that, Kazuya turned back to the fight.

"I think that's what people like him call a compliment," Daisy giggled kissing Luigi on the cheek.

"Yeah," huffed Luigi, "Remind me not to take a vacation to the Tekken Universe anytime soon."

As fists flew on Big Battlefield Quinn snapped out of his meditation, glancing at Rosalina, "When this is all over, where's our first vacation spot going to be?"

"Peach spoke highly of Lake Lamode," Rosalina answered immediately.

Quinn smiled, "Been thinking a lot about this have you?"

Rosalina blushed, nodding sheepishly, "My Lumas love the water, and I wouldn't lie if I've fantasized about us on the beach a few times."

Quinn laughed, "Building sandcastles with the Lumas I suppose."

"Yes," Rosalina laughed back, "And if we build one big enough, we can use it for…"

"Ick," Torri gagged, "Keep that stuff private, would ya?"

"You're just mad because Team Zombies is doing bad in the Splatfest." Villager teased.

"Yeah, I hear you Animal Crossing folk are all about Team Witches."

Villager shrugged, "I can't help if witch costumes are already popular for Halloween."

Quinn chuckled to himself, turning back to watch the fight as Rosalina hid her face in shame.

Back on Big Battlefield, Ganondorf watched the action. Beastballs and Koopa shells have been thrown, and beatings had been delivered. And yet, everyone stood as eager to fight as they'd ever been, despite all of them having incurred damage north of 150 percent.

Then, the light at the tunnel appeared, a Smash Ball

Peach and Link already began to lob projectiles into it. Pikachu hitting a silent Skull Bash on the progressively crackling ball of power.

"Ah," Peach grunted throwing heavy breaths, pulling a Bob-omb, "This should do the trick,"

As soon as Peach tossed it, Bowser jumped to intercept it, "MEWTWO, GO!"

The Bob-omb collided with him, sending him to the Blast Zone for the final time.

BOWSER HAS BEEN ELIMINATED!

In the fracas, Mewtwo had charged up a Shadow Ball, throwing it, and shattering the Smash Ball.

Mewtwo's eyes seemed to glimmer with joy as the power found its way to him.

"Like Farfetch'd in a row," Mewtwo cackled.

With a blinding, pink flash, Mewtwo had become his much smaller, much more powerful form, Mega Mewtwo Y. A ball buzzed past all three opposing Smashers, trapping them in a dizzy state.

"PSYSTRIKE!" Mewtwo called.

With a flick of his wrist, psychic blasts sent all three Smashers to the Blast Zone. Within seconds, the three found themselves on the Smash Mansion Courtyard.

Ganondorf laughed, his arms crossed, "Finally, we have avenged our loss!"

Mewtwo huffed, also crossing his arms, "Only because of Bowser's sacrifice, and my superior intellect. You, as usual, contributed nothing."

"Your insistence on pure falsities does not matter," growled Ganondorf, "What matters is that we won."

"DAMN RIGHT WE DID!" cheered Bowser, flexing his biceps.

That was when the camera drones appeared to capture the victory, a splash screen cementing this win in history.

RED TEAM ELIMINATED! BLUE TEAM WINS!

The screen then cut to the defeated Link, Peach, and Pikachu walking up the tunnel.

"You may have had Mewtwo's assistance there," Peach said directly to the camera, "But I'm afraid you won't have it against Luigi, and therefore, you will lose,"

Link nodded, "Aye,"

Pikachu hopped up onto Link's shoulder, "I have no stake in this, I just want Ganondorf to be upset. I haven't forgotten being used as a battery you big idiot."

By now, both teams were back in the Smashers' Box. The villains congratulated Ganondorf's team on their win, while Pikachu immediately found himself in the loving, petting arms of Samus and Bayonetta, while Link, seemingly non-plused by the loss, began to yammer about his inventions to the other Links.

"Did the best I could out there," Peach said, "But Mewtwo and Bowser got me."

Luigi raised an eyebrow, "What about Ganondorf,"

Peach gave an uncharacteristic shrug, "Same old rubbish, different day. Ganondorf is simply more emboldened because of his defeat of Zelda and alliance with Wario.

Luigi cast a glance over to the villains camp. Amidst the Koopalings cheering their father's victory, Wario, Sephiroth, and Ganondorf stood in a huddle.

"Alright-a" Luigi said, "Hey Mario, you ready?"

Mario glanced up from the production controls confusedly.

"You wanna go now?"

Luigi nodded, "Yeah, I'm feelin' confident-a."

"We'll see how long that lasts. Let's a go!" Mario cheered.

With that, the two headed for the elevator. Despite Luigi's best effort, he was never going to beat Mario to the elevator, making the trip in a mear two steps.

"Beat ya," Mario teased, sticking his tongue out.

"How old are you?" Luigi asked, perplexed.

"We could be 80 years old and I'm still gonna get ya about stuff like that."

"Don't threaten me with a good time," Luigi snarked, rolling his eyes.

The brothers erupted into laughter as the elevator took them down to Big Battlefield.
