Chapter 5: Hysterical Lying
"Okay, hon, make sure you check up on Socks every hour, alright?" Bandit said to Chilli, grabbing his suitcase and getting ready for work.
"Why just me?" Chilli whined. "You do know that it isn't just me in the house anymore, right?"
"I know," Bandit sighed, putting on his tie in the process. "But I only trust you being around Socks for now."
"Why not Trixie or Stri-"
Bandit gave Chilli the death stare, one that made her orange fur go white.
"Don't ever mention his name," Bandit growled as he angrily hung his ID on his chest.
"N-Noted..." Chilli stammered, backing away from her husband in small steps.
"S-Sorry, Chilli..." Bandit sighed once again, brushing out his fur with his hands. "I'm just super pissed with him at the moment. He has to know that the fire was his own fault. I just don't know why he's lying to me like this, not to mention, lying to himself."
Chilli sighed to herself. "I wish I had the answer to that. But how do you not know why he's lying? You know Stri- I mean, him, better than I do. He's your brother!"
"Well, lying to me normally is one thing. But to lie to himself and to do it hysterically is a thing that is not normal."
"Has he done it all the time?"
"No. I've never seen him like this before."
Bandit glanced at his wristwatch.
"Oh, no, I'm late!" He said as he snatched his belongings and headed for the door.
"Remember, check up on Socks every hour, okay?" He said as he looked back at Chilli.
"I will,'' was the last response she gave to Bandit before he walked out the cracked door.
From the kitchen window, Chilli saw Bandit tripping and cursing at himself as he made his way to the car. A few seconds in, Bandit had already backed out of the driveway and zoomed off to work, leaving Chilli at the house with a worried expression on her face.
