NOTE: This premise on the intro I took from DEADPAN LOVE which is a Gwaihir10 fanfic.

"Of all the weapons you could choose, you chose the bat? You're gonna survive a zombie apocalypse with a bat?"

The second time something happens, Beast Boy and Cyborg are playing a new Monkey Zombie Invasion game that the latter had snatched from a tech-con. It's Friday in the morning and they are alone in the Tower, sans Raven. The dynamic couple (Robin and Starfire) had been invited to spend the weekend at the Wayne Manor, and with nothing else to do, a zombie killing competition took place.

It's a couple hours after the gaming starts that things started to get freaky, at least in Cyborg's opinion.

Raven had spent the better part of the week locked in her room, excusing herself to do some heavy meditation regarding things that are none of your business. Which wasn't unusual.

But now that she was standing right behind them, it was. Cyborg realizes at some point that she's been there for a while, but decides to let it be. He only turns around to see her again twice and she never even nods towards him, so he guesses that it's between Beast Boy and her.

Lately though, it's always between those two.

"Gar" It starts with a simple nickname that Cyborg has never heard before, with some ghost traces of what could count as affection in Raven's voice. But her eyes are cold and frozen, and her face is stoic and emotionless, much more than ever before. If he had a say in this, he'd say that Raven seemed to be in literal physical pain right now, even though that probably wasn't the case.

"Busy!" The Green Changelign doesn't realize the importance of this situation, and continues to smack zombies with a wooden bat. Cyborg hears a sigh coming from Raven, one that lets him know she had expected as much.

"Garfield" She tries again with a graveyard tone of authority and Beast Boy freezes in place, controller and game forgotten. Cyborg takes the chance to pause the game and pretend to be a stone next to them.

Raven gives Cyborg a side glance before she sighs and gathers her resolve, "Listen to me" She orders, and Gar drops the controller on the sofa and turns around to look at her, with his legs prompted on the couch and using his arms to support his chin.

"W-What's up, Rae-Rae?" The changeling is frightened but he still has that smirk on his face. Cyborg throws in a prayer for his safety before they continue.

Raven's face is one of full concentration and commitment, so much that Beast Boy has to look away from the intensity. It's as if she was forcing herself not to feel anything, which was probably the case. He notices a jar encased in black energy some meters away from him and realizes that it is the case.

"...It's a pretty beautiful friday, wouldn't you agree?" Her tone is still frozen cold, but her eyes keep staring at Beast Boy's green orbs with intensity.

The green guy barely manages to nod and gulp in return, "Y-Yeah…" His eyes are anywhere but on hers.

"A beautiful day…to go out, right?"

"Sure, going out sounds neat…"

"Out with someone…" She emphasizes, hoping this would be enough.

Of course, Garfield's mind is filled with maggots, so it isn't enough and she sighs and groans in return. Cyborg must've figured it out by now, but she's still on her own with this. He's far too amused and shocked to say anything.

Grumbling, she gives up, "Beast Boy, do you have fun spending time with me?" Her question has an insecure air around it, and Beast Boy is quick to wave it away.

"Rae, we both know I go out of my way to annoy you every day. Have I missed a single day this last month?" His question is quickly answered with a roll of her eyes and a shake of her head, and he grins with pride, "That's because I have fun with you. Maybe you're not too outspoken and you can be a little scary at times, but you are also hilarious and sarcastic" His honesty is surprising even when it shouldn't be. Beast Boy wore his heart on his sleeve since the first time they met, and even through grueling experiences, he still wore it out for her to see.

Raven takes some time to steel herself before she continues, "Then…don't freak out, okay?" The green man nods a couple of times in agreement, "Okay, so…there's a nice spot on the other side of the city, and they play music live on Fridays. If you aren't busy…" Her eyes remain on his, emotionless and controlled, "Would you like to go hang out there with me today?" The question comes before she has the time to think about it, and Beast Boy freezes for a second, making her flinch internally.

"Wait a second…you want to hang out with me?"

"Yes"

"With me, Beast Boy?" The regret starts settling in and she groans in response.

"Yes, with you, Beast Boy" Raven rolls her eyes in annoyance but can't help the small tug of her lips attempting to make a smile. He was playful, even when nervous.

The changeling is clearly taken aback and surprised, but it takes little more than a second before he accepts, "What time?" He asks, letting her assume he's already accepted.

"I'll see you here in the lobby in two hours, don't be late, Garfield" She adds before finally teleporting away, probably towards her room, leaving the two Titans baffled and surprised.

The remaining Titans stay in complete, unadulterated silence for few critical seconds before Cyborg bursts out laughing

"Uh-"

"Okay, two questions!" The metal man doesn't give him even a second to process the information before he starts with the ramble, "Since when did she start calling you that way?" Beast Boy opened his mouth to reply but Victor continued, "And did RAVEN, our local goth, empath, powerhouse semi-demon, just ask you out on a date!?" Even when coming out of his friend's mouth, Beast Boy has a hard time believing it too.

"I…I don't know, man…she's been calling me Gar since I came back, but I thought it was a normal thing…"

"She didn't call you Gar, she called you Garfield" Cyborg replayed with a tone unlike anything Raven had actually sounded like, emphasizing a girly and annoying voice, different to empath's.

Beast Boy could barely manage to keep it together, so he remained silent.

"Look, man. She's like a little sister to me, but there's no denying that Raven's a hottie, and one with a huge character. Are you sure you up to the task, green bean?" The question is a tease, but Beast Boy's face turns three different shades of red and Cyborg bursts out laughing again.

It's true he thinks, Raven is beautiful…not to mention, super hot! What am I going to do!? One wrong move and she'll probably pound me to the ground…

His worried face lets Cyborg know this is a little more serious.

"Yo, she asked you out, so it has to be a good sign, alright?" With a hand on his shoulder, Beast Boy feels a bit more confident.

He takes off to get ready and promises to come back to the game once everything is settled down, and Cyborg wastes no time in taking out his communicator, relaying the news to their professional matchmaker.

ONE HOUR LATER, NEVERMORE

Raven's feelings have always been hard to control and manage, but today, at the impromptu meeting Raven invoked, they were impossible.

Happy is a ball of energy, jumping and cheering and dancing, with her pink colour exuberantly brighter than normal. Sloth is…awake, which is something. Bravery is boasting, mainly because it's her influence that brought them here. Knowledge has a smile on her face, a knowing smile, as if she had predicted they'd all end up here. Rude is quiet, Timid is stable and Rage is…calm.

And Affection…Azar. Even the sun is less powerful than her radiance.

"So…it finally happened" The moment she opens her mouth, all of them cheer for her.

"You did it! I knew you could do it!" Knowledge is the first that escapes the trance of excitement, but all follow through with their praises.

In truth, for the last month, she's been fighting and planning with them to gather the necessary courage and control to ask Beast Boy out on a date. It's the reason why she's spent so much time locked in her room this last week, and it's probably one of the biggest steps Raven has ever taken into dangerous territory that could probably leave her wrecked if anything or everything goes wrong.

She was more than reluctant at first, because this was her first time since..since Malchior that she's felt something for anyone. And knowing it was Beast Boy had been hard to accept.

But affection was relentless in her requests, and so was everyone else. Anger actually threatened her at some point, saying that she'd either act on her feelings or she'd do her best to possess her and act on them herself. And really, these emoticlones were literally herself. So in other words, she had been fighting herself for the last week, and that date invite was the result of it all.

"I say you kiss him when he greets us tonight" Affection is quick to suggest, and everyone agrees except for Timid and Raven herself.

"W-What if he thinks we-we're coming off too hard? I don't want us to look…desperate" The shy emotion replies in fear, and Raven nods with every word she utters.

"That's right…isn't inviting him enough?" The blue cloaked empath is barely keeping it together, with her cheeks red and warmer than ever before, but lately she's gotten used to the feeling.

"You didn't even call it a date so obviously it's not enough, idiot" Rude. as always, interrupts and insults. But her words ring true. Not only had she worn the most emotion-deprived face she'd ever managed, she'd also never called their outing a date in front of Beast Boy, thanks to her own nerves.

"Knowing him, he must be thinking it's just some kind of revenge you have planned for him" It's actually Rage who says that, and she says with venom and anger, "You couldn't just ask him out on a date normally?" It's clear that Rage is calmer than usual, and happy at the events, but also quite frustrated with Raven.

"I just…grew fearful…a little bit" Rven confesses and the red coloured emotion sighs.

"BB loves us, you know that much. His feelings yell at us everyday that he does" Happy's argument is irrefutable because, for some reason, she's unable to block away Garfield's emotions. They invaded her empathic abilities every time, "You should be—"

Ringing sound

"That's our communicator" Knowledge advised, "We can continue this later, least we be late for our date with Garfield" For once, everyone agrees.

In the blink of an eye, Raven is back in her room and it's…a mess. There's cloaks of different styles everywhere, outfits one would consider gothic but normal, and boots of different types. She had spent half an hour searching for something to wear and even though she finally settled on a loose black shirt tugged into short cropped jeans, plus knee high, black thighs, she still didn't feel satisfied.

Picking up her communicator, it's Star.

"Glorious greetings, Friend Raven!" Her voice has matured over the years just as much as her body and the determination in her voice, but she was still just as friendly and mischievous, always asking for girl night talks and gossiping. Her side job as a model had changed her on the outside, but she was still the same Starfire.

"Hello, Star" Raven notices the bags under the alien's eyes but says nothing, "How's the Manor?" She asks and Kori goes on to explain how everything is perfect and beautiful, but the Wayne family doesn't sleep. Either they are eating at a benefit meeting in a high class restaurant surrounded with people of power and prestige, where saying anything could cost you a lifetime of renown, or they were overseeing crime at the Batcave, training and plotting. If Robin turned paranoid when it came to training in the tower, with Batman by his side he was relentless.

"I already knew it was going to be the 'pain in the ass' but Richard's had me over plenty of times before, so I was mentally prepared for the change"

"Does he treat you differently there?" Raven asks, evidently interested in the conversation. In the meantime, she started changing clothes and get ready.

"Oh goodness, no. He is still the sweetest of hearts…he just gets more obsessive…as if he had to prove something to me" Kori's fiery eyes frown for a second before she relaxes again.

"It's not you he wants to impress" She echoes a thought she knows Starfire is aware of.

"I am aware, but Bruce is a nut in the job—" A nut job, she corrects momentarily, "And he has a problem of not being able to see what is right in front of you!" Maybe Kori doesn't mean that little yell, but it's quite clear she's a little frustrated.

"Sounds like it runs in the family" She uses sarcasm as a means to defuse the situation and Starfire giggles and nods.

"That is true, Friend Raven" The alien princess closes her eyes and takes a deep breath before continuing, "I've heard some…news, Raven"

Azar save me.

"Huh? What kind of news?" The glint in her friend's green orbs lets Raven know she has no chance of playing dumb this time.

"The kind that involves you, Beast Boy and the dating" Starfire counters her growl with a hard stare, and they stay silent until Raven gives up.

"I was going to tell you…"

"I was hoping you would! I respect your privacy, but it feels like the backstabbing that Friend Cyborg was the one that told me" She has some points to her favor, so Raven sighs and rubs her temple.

"I just needed to make sure it…would work, before I told you" Her confession is honest even though it's taking a lot of effort to keep control while having this type of personal conversation. Like many times before, the feeling of vulnerability embraces her, "I was going to tell you after this…date" Star is unable to contain her excitement and she claps in return.

"Oh I cannot stay mad at you, Friend Raven. This is glorious news! Where is he taking you-"

"Actually, I was the one that invited him. Didn't Cyborg tell you?" Raven was sure the metal man would let Starfire in on all the juice up to the last drop.

"I hung up before he could. I couldn't wait to speak to you!" Raven suppresses a giggle, "He just mentioned you two were going to a date"

"I'm taking him to a coffee place that also serves tea and desserts" In the end, she's always unable to reject Starfire's advances. She's one of her closest friends and who she considers a sister. And the Tamaranean devil knew how to press her buttons quite well, "I asked him out casually…but I didn't mention it was a date. Do you…do you think that might be a problem?" Starfire lets out a quick gasp before humming. Deep in thought, it appeared as if she was trying to solve some mystery.

"Knowing our Beast Boy, no. Like I've mentioned to you many times over, he more than likes you! If there's a chance, I bet he is doing the praying that you consider this a date!" Every single one of her emoticlones agreed with her logic, and Raven sighs in return because they are right.

"I just don't know why am I having this much trouble? I've been meditating, planning with you, talking with my emotions…I should've been able to call it a date"

"Perhaps you haven't completely accepted the fact that you like Beast Boy yet. You are still ashamed of your attraction towards him" Starfire didn't miss a beat to reply back with an edge to her voice, "And if that's the case you shall clarify your intentions with Friend Beast Boy before you hurt him and-"

"No, Star. I really do like Beast Boy. When he came back home from his mission…Azar, it was almost a revelation to me" This is the same argument she's used multiple times but it's still her only anchor, "I'm just afraid…"

"You shouldn't be afraid, you should be excited. Happy! The one you like is willing to try the dating with you…isn't it glorious, Friend Raven?" The poor alien princess could barely believe how some humans made love so hard to be…the same situation with Robin, too. Why was it so hard to love on this planet?

"I know…it's irrational, but it's hard for me to trust sometimes" Something breaks next to her bed but she pays it no attention, too busy talking with Star, "After Malchior…"

"You insult Friend Beast Boy when comparing him to such a vile enemy of ours" Kori cries in protest before Raven has a chance to drown herself in self pity, "Our friend would never hurt you, he'd never go out of his way to make you suffer. He is always the first one to take a step towards your well being, and he is always the first to celebrate your victories. He is a true friend and I don't need to have empathic powers to notice his love for you" Like always, Star holds nothing back when it comes to love matters, and Raven finds herself at the corner of a boxing ring, with Starfire beating truth into her.

"I know you're right, Star. But can we move on? I promise I'll make it up to him…I'll figure something out"

"You should kiss him" It wasn't Starfire, but Affection who slipped that comment. Raven barely growls in return.

"You should totally practice the kissing!" This time it is Starfire and Raven holds the urge to bang her head on the wall multiple times until she gains a permanent condition.

In a desperate search to change the subject, she spots herself in the mirror and smiles, "How about you help me see how I can make this outfit better?" Immediately there is another gasp and Starfire is suddenly a bundle of happiness.

"Oh yes! Move the communicator so you can do the focus a bit more to the left, I can't see your feet and…"

It felt like a year before they finally got what they wanted.

LOBBY ROOM, ABOUT AN HOUR LATER.

"Do you think this is too much?"

"You look fine, man. Let it go"

"But the pocket-"

"It's fine, dude. You look fresh and we don't wanna overdo it, capiche?"

Beast Boy could swear the temperature had risen up in the last few minutes. His palms, a sweaty mess, his legs, trembling. He's wearing dark pants and a simple white shirt that supposedly went great with his green skin (Starfire's words), and his hair is styled to the side, borrowing Robin's gel to keep it that way.

Nothing too extravagant, but certainly with more effort than usual. It's a date with Raven, after all.

The clock ticks and he's sure that he's on time, and never being one to be late, as soon as the hour hits, the door to the room slides open. Raven comes in, wearing casual clothes a bit inclined on darker themes.

"You're on time" The surprise in her eyes insults him a little but he laughs and dismisses the thought.

"Of course I am, are you ready-"

"You look good in white" His world stumbles a little at her words and finding her eyes, they are serious and looking straight to him. A light bulb pops next to them in the kitchen, but he doesn't even register the occurrence.

Cyborg is stunned in silence, hoping that if he doesn't move, maybe Raven won't see him there.

"A-And you've always looked good in black" He struggles, but Raven finds it cute, "Let's go" His mind stops working and he offers his arm automatically, but before he has the time to retrieve, Raven has taken hold of it.

"And just for your information, Garfield"

"Yes?"

"I don't want you to misunderstand anything, okay?" His ears immediately go down, and she internally smiles again, "This is a date, not just a hang out with a friend, understood?" His mood immediately brightens and he nods eagerly and with a smile.

She chants only for one second and a dark portal opens, probably leading to their destination.

"And Cyborg?" She catches the attention of the metal man frozen in place.

"Y-Yes, Raven?"

"We'll be back at twelve, don't wait on us" With that, she leaves with Beast Boy right behind her.

Left to his own devices, Cyborg ended up laughing the rest of the day away.

If his friends are happy, then in the end nothing else mattered.
