Three months of Earth time had passed since Pink Diamond was introduced to the one of a kind gems of Shard and Chromus. And every gem in her colony were curious about them, wanting to learn more about the new additions, now the question is, did Pink Diamond share this information with the other Diamonds or did she decided to keep it a secret from them?
She was tempted to tell them, especially after learning about all they could do. Not only were Shard and Chromus unique in appearance but in their gem powers as well! But she was afraid they would take them from her, she finally got her own colony after basically begging to the other Diamonds as if she was born yesterday. If her new gems were discovered they could say that she was not mature or experienced enough to deal with them and Pink Diamond could not let that slip. So, with some confidence from her confidant, Pearl, Pink kept Shard and Chromus a secret from the other diamonds and swore all of her other gems to secrecy about them.
'I'll show them how good I am on this by learning everything about them and have their jaws drop.' Pink thought while in her palanquin.
"Is something troubling you, my Diamond?" Her pearl asked her.
"No, Pearl. Just thinking about Shard and Chromus." Pink Diamond said with a smile.
"I'm sure they will be amazing addictions to your court." Her Pearl said with a similar smile.
"Me too." Pink Diamond said before putting a finger on her lip. "By the way, have you seen where they are?"
"I believe they are at the Sky Arena training together." Pearl said.
"Oh really now? And for how long have they been training?" Pink Diamond asked, already interested.
"I think the past few hours but I'm sure they are fine." Pearl said.
"Hmmm, still, let's go check on them." Pink Diamond said.
Shard changed his hand into a spiky maced weapon and started swinging around quickly but heavily too. One single blow enough to break a large boulder in millions of pieces.
It would be interesting to see exactly how they fight anyway. The more date, the merrier.
"Yes, my diamond." Pearl said with a nod.
Putting her current data pads away, Pink Diamond used the special hand pad for the palanquin and mentally commanded it to retract the legs to float in the air. It then quickly flew in direction to the Sky Arena, above the clouds where Gems would train and hone their abilities. Mostly for combat type gems, but Pink allowed every gem to come and test their skills as well as watch if they want to. Hopefully, not many gems would be around to watch them so she could observe them herself.
'I'm very curious to see what they have that other don't, it's like a mystery every day with them.' Pink thought.
Once they reached the sky arena, Pink Diamond and her Pearl walked off the palanquin before hearing the sounds of combat.
'Seems we caught them in the middle of a spar.' Pink thought.
Once they reached the top of the steps, the diamond and servant saw the two male gems right in the middle of combat and fighting with everything they have as Shard creates a sharp looking blade on his hand and jumps towards Chromus with a wide swing. Which the latter saw it coming and sidestepped to the right.
'His swings are wide, powerful but wide.' Chromus thought, dodging more of his attacks before jumping back and charging up a certain power in his body.
"You're strong but let's see how your speed is!" Chromus shouted before shooting the rainbow energy out of his hands!
Shard crossed her arms, pushed back by the energy as it he could feel the heat from it.
'It's strong. But my body is stronger!' Shard thought, forming his right arm into shield before pulling his other arms back, transform the hand into multiple sharp points.
"You won't harm me with this amount of energy." Shard said before shooting multiple green sharp shards at Chromus like a gatling gun.
Chromus protected his face as he was pushed back by the gatling shards, each one breaking against his rock hard skin as they weren't as strong as Shard's main body.
The ones watching them from afar were quite invested on this little display of power. And not just Pink Diamond and her Pearl as about 40 percent of the seats in the sky arena were filled with Amethysts, Rose Quartzes, and Rubies. Even a few Bismuths as well.
"Oh my." Pink Diamond said as she looked around the arena.
"Indeed. I didn't think anyone would be here with them or that this many gems would want to watch them." Pearl said, looking around at all of the gems too.
"Their skills seem to be fascinating so far, no weapon summoning but rather the powers comes from their own body." Pink said, looking attentively as she made mental notes of them.
"It almost reminds me of….her, my diamond." Pearl said, becoming a bit nervous.
"Of who, Pearl?" Pink asked, looking towards Pearl.
"Of…Spinel, my diamond." Pearl said with a small gulp.
Pink Diamond eyes went wide for a moment, memories running through her head but she kept cool.
"Why do you think that?" Pink Diamond asked quickly.
"Well, because in a way they are like her. Created in a way like no other, their main abilities come from their unique bodies, and there aren't any other gems like them." Pearl said, looking away from Pink to explain her reasons.
"I see..." Pink said, thinking back at that specific Gem.
How was she doing? What was she doing? Was she...even still in the garden like Pink ordered her to stay in?
'Why am I thinking about her now? I had to leave her behind!' Pink thought, clenching her fists.
"I'm your best friend!" Pink remembers Spinel's happy go lucky voice.
'You choose this, you knew you could not bring here.' Pink thought.
It was too late for Pink to regret her choice, not when her colony was much more important than her playmate/toy and their garden playground. Still, Pink sometimes wonders if she should ever go back for the little playmate gem and tell her their "game" is over.
"Lets see it a bit more close shall we my diamond?" Her Pearl called out to her.
"Ye-Yes. Let's move closer." Pink said with a nod, putting her thoughts aside.
Shard changed his hand into a spiky maced weapon and started swinging around quickly but heavily too. One single blow enough to break a large boulder in millions of pieces.
"HA!" He shouted, swinging at Chromus as he blocked his with his arms.
The impact made him slide back, digging his feet DEEP into the floor to stay standing!
"Dang..." He said, shaking his hands from the impact. "You really want me to go all out huh, brother?"
"Id' want nothing less from my brother, it would be insulting to you if I held back against you." Shard said with a smile.
"I feel like I can do more then this but I'm not sure how yet." Chromus said, looking at his hands.
"Just do what feels natural. That's what I'm doing!" Shard said, swinging his mace again and again.
Taking his advice, Chromus stared up to look at the sun rays that illuminated the arena. Their warmth, their energy, it felt nice against his body as Chromus subconsciously absorbed the rays into his body.
Everyone in the area looked in awe as they saw Chromus charging up with rainbow energy again.
"He's absorbing solar energy?" A Ruby asked in shock.
"No way!" A Jasper said in awe.
"He must be charging up for a big one." A Bismuth said, admiring the rainbow energy.
"Try this one for size." Chromus said, his magenta crystal horn glowing bright hot before shooting a beam for energy much larger then the previous ones!
Shard dropped his mace and raised his arms to block, creating a large shield as he was pushed back! He could even see small pieces of his shield breaking away as he was slowly pushed to the edge of the arena. Everyone cheered for him, to see if he could go past Shard defenses, while others saw small pieces of Shard's shield flying into the air before landing in the stands. The gems seemed to like it as some of them tried to catch them and cheered loudly because of it!
"YES! I got a piece!" A large amethyst shouted.
Pink Diamond laughed at how excited they were, finding it adorable in a way.
"They sure are having a lot of fun." she said to Pearl.
"Can you blame them? Amethysts are known to be rowdier gems." Pearl said with a tiny grin herself.
"Yes but I didn't expect them to have this much fun just watching a fight. Even some Rose Quartzes are having fun." Pink Diamond said, looking to a very excited Rose Quartz cheering for Shard.
"Should we stop it before it gets out of hand?" Pearl asked.
"We should but I do want to see how this ends." Pink Diamond said, sitting on the steps to watch the battle's climax.
Chromus continued his large blast, making Shard remain on the offensive before he put his foot down! Eventually, Shard made spikes pop out of his feet and keep him grounded before he created a ramp of his diamonds to guide the rainbow beam straight into the air before it exploded in the air like fireworks! Beautiful yet also deadly if you were caught in it as everyone looks at it in awe. Before long, everyone clapped at the display as they stood up and cheered loudly as Shard broke his ramp apart and levitated all the pieces.
"Nice! My turn!" He shouted, launching the large pieces!
The fight goes on for the another five minutes, all of which causing the duo to grow tired as they used all of their energy to test the limits of their bodies and powers.
"OK boys, this is it for now don't you think?" Pink Diamond said, letting her presence be known.
Both of them turned to Pink, nearly collapsing from exhaustion of how hard they fought each other.
"Our diamond." Chromus said, sitting on the floor.
"I see you two were having lots of fun fighting a lot in the arena huh?" Pearl said before gesturing to the stadium. "Everyone seems to like it too."
"We didn't mean to cause a ruckus. We just got really invested in our training." Shard said, giving a bow to Pink.
"It's quite alright. I think every gem here can agree you were both wonderful." Pink said.
"Aside from that, do you both have anything to report on your self-findings?" Pearl asked.
Chromus and Shard looked towards each other, having a silent conversation before nodding to each other.
"Our powers are genuinely unique and with enough practice, we could be an army's worth of strength." Chromus said.
"You can be MORE than a soldier. You both can." Pink Diamond said.
"But what if we don't know what we want to be, though?" Shard said, slightly confused.
"I have to agree." Chromus said as Pink walked up to them.
"I know but it's alright. We can find out, together." Pink said. putting her hands on their shoulders.
