"Where I am?" Chromus said, looking around.
Instead of the inside of the moon base as he expected, Chromus found himself in some sort of garden but it wasn't like the one on earth. The garden in question sits on a large floating rock protected by a large glass dome-like a greenhouse but the place seems to be fallen apart everything that had life has withered away due to no one taking care of the wildlife. Some of the pillars have crumbled and have fallen apart not being colorful or lively.
'Where is this place?" Chromus whispered, looking around the overgrown garden in shock.
It was so dark that he had to use his powers and make his gown shine in a slight rainbow color, allowing him to see more clearly.
"Its so empty and..." Chromus said as he looks at the wilthered trees "Sad."
"Who said that?"
A mysterious voice made Chromus jump in surprise, looking around the source inside of this dying garden.
"Uhm...I did?" He said, not sure he should even be saying that.
Chromus heard something moving, turning the light start in front of him towards a weird looking tree….only for it to NOT be a tree at all as it moved and slowly turned to him.
"Who...are you?" It spoke to him.
Chromus gasped at the sight of the "tree" as he could see a gem on sorts in the center.
"I…..I am Chromus. Who…are you?" He asked, slowly walking towards the "tree."
The closer he got, the more he could see with his light until there was a point that Chromus saw that what was talking to him was not a tree...but someone covered in roots to the point they could be confused by a tree if seen from afar.
"My name is Spinel." The "tree" or gem said as she looked up to him.
Looking down at her, Chromus could see she had pink skin, pinker hair, and black eyes while wearing a white shirt with puffy sleeves and matching shorts with white pants legs that lead to big pink shoes. But do to bring in this place for who knows how long, her clothes were faded and slightly torn. Her hair, held in heart shaped buns, was disheveled with some strange standing up.
"Are you...ok?" He decided to ask, feeling worried for the stranger.
"Oh, I'm fine. Just a little tired but I'm not going to give up yet." Spinel said, "smiling" as best as she could to Chromus. "I'm not ready to give up on our game yet."
"Game? What game?" Chromus asked, knowing at least enough to know what a game is. "And who are you playing with?"
"I am playing with my best friend, it has gone for quite a long time already." Spinel said.
Chromus looked around the garden, seeing the overgrown or wilting greenery in the dark dome.
"And……exactly how long has this game be going on?" He asked, turning back to Spinel.
"Uhm..." She said before then looking at her hands and started making some calculations to remember.
This worried Chromus even more as Spinel may have either forgotten due to how long she was here. How could a gem stand here for so long and who would do something so horrible as to make a gem stand here under the assumption that this was some sort of GAME?
"Does...your friend's games usually last this long?" He asked cautiously.
"Oh! No, they don't but that just means she's really dedicated to it and that I might be winning." Spinel said, not counting for a moment. "Pink always loved playing our games."
Chromus face then went from confused to shock! Shock that made his entire stone like body shake to its very CORE!
'Pink? ...Pink...Pink.' He thought, only knowing one gem by the name of "Pink."
Uhm...is that her name? Just Pink? O-or does it have more?" Chromus asked slowly.
Chromus was praying to whatever god or Diamond Authority aside from Pink in the universe that this "Pink" Spinel was talking about wasn't Pink Diamond. HIS diamond.
"Oh she is the one and only Pink Diamond! My best friend." Spinel said with a tiny grin.
Chromus slammed his hand on his one and only eye ball, breathing heavily.
"Clod damn it." He said on instinct.
"Hmm?" Spinel asked in confusion, tilting her head.
Deciding it was best to change the subject, Chromus out his hand down.
"Say uhm...Spinel, right? How about you tell me a little more about yourself and this place? I'm a new gem, recently born, so i know very little of this place." He said with a shaky smile.
"Oh, sure." Spinel said, smiling at the thought of talking of her "best friend."
Spinel turned back around and began to tell Chromus about all of the times she had with Pink, all of the fun they had in this garden and the times Pink would talk about her dream of owning a colony. Spinel always thought Pink would take her with her to Earth, where they could have all new games and have lots more fun...at least that's what she thought before they played this game of "Stand Very Still."
"Wow, that's sounds...nice. Pink seems to be...really important to you huh?" Chromus said.
"Yeah she sure is..." Spinel said as her smile turns tired.
'I dont know what happened but If Pink Diamond told her to play this game of waiting then why is she not back? This doesnt feel right.' Chromus thought.
"Um, Spinel?" Chromus said, walking around her and kneeling in front of her. "Don't you think that maybe...it's time to stop playing this game?"
"Huh? Why? Im sure I can win this time." Spinel said, losing her smile.
"I don't doubt you but what if…the game is already over?" Chromus said gently.
"What? B-But it cant! I didnt win or lose yet." She said, starting to feel desperate.
"I know you don't, nobody likes to lose but have you ever thought that...maybe you've already won or already lost?" Chromus asked her gently. "Like...maybe Pink has forgotten the game because of something else?"
"NO!!!" She shouted, making Chromus jump a bit. "She didnt forget, she would never forget! We are best friends! This is our special place, it's where we are meant to be!"
Chromus could see how serious Spinel was about this and how much it means to her in an emotional level. Still, if she stayed here and continued to play this "game," Spinel would waste away into nothing.
'I have make her understand that Pink is not coming back, for whatever reason. I dont know but it just doesnt feel like it.' Chromus thought.
"But, maybe Pink forgot because she was busy? Like with that colony you said she wanted. Perhaps she's been too busy to return?" Chromus said to Spinel.
"That...That...maybe but...I thought that Pink loved our games and she wouldn't forget them." Spinel said, looking down and saddened.
"No one is perfect, Spinel. We are prone to make a mistake or twice in this vast life in the cosmos." He said, patting her in the shoulder.
"But...But..." Spinel stuttered before Chromus offered his hand to her.
"Please, Spinel, come with me. You deserve more than just to stand here for eternity, there is so much life in the universe and it is just waiting for you to see it." Chromus said, giving her a smile.
As Chromus extended his hand to Spinel, she hesitated for a moment, torn between the comfort of the familiar garden and the unknown adventure that awaited beyond its glass dome. Chromus could see the conflict in her eyes, the fear of leaving behind the only world she had known for so long.
Spinel looked at Chromus's outstretched hand, and a glimmer of hope crossed her face. With a shaky smile, she reached out and took his hand while her fingers intertwining with his.
"Okay, let's go." She said to him.
Chromus nodded to her before holding out his other hand, firing some lasers at her feet to remove the branches that grew around and on her. Standing up and still holding, Chromus and Spinel slowly walked to the Warp Pad.
'Pink, please have a good explanation for this.' Chromus thought as their next destination was the Moon Base near Earth.
