UA SPORTS FESTIVAL
WEST TUNNEL
(THIRD PERSON POV)
Pacing back and forth with shaky nerves was one Kinoko Komori, muttering about the audience was going to be staring at them nonstop. Mei on the other hand was excited, and before meeting Izuku would be completely ignoring her partner's distress right now. But after getting so close to him, and her experience with raising Elizabeth with him, she knew better than a different version of her in another possible timeline.
"There, there." Mei said hugging the girl into her bosom rubbing her back to calm her down.
Kinoko took a few deep breaths before she managed to collect herself, only then realizing where her head was causing her to blush. "S-SORRY FOR WORRYING YOU!" She said to the pink haired inventor before a stray though crossed her mind. But before she could even consider asking them if they were treating her like a child, Mei cut her off.
"No need to apologize, after all it can be pretty nerve-racking going out in front of such a large crowd." Mei said patting her shoulder before helping her put on the last of her equipment.
"So how do you get through it?" She asked her surprised, doubtful even that this genius inventor could feel nervous as well.
"… I don't know?" Mei said it as though it was a question rather than an answer.
"WHAT!" Kinoko exclaimed as she almost fell over from surprise.
"Well, I mean I just believe that every inventor should show their creations the love and care they deserve, that's why I call them my babies. And what mother wouldn't want the world to see how great their children can be?" Mei said smiling wondering what Elizabeth will say when she sees Kino-chan using the gear she helped her make.
Kinoko was surprised at how such a simple way of thinking could instill such confidence, especially to the magnitude it is now. Getting pumped they heard their names being called, seeing their opponents already waiting for the two girls.
UA SPORTS FESTIVAL
EAST TUNNEL
(THIRD PERSON POV)
Hiryu Rin and Togaru Kamakiri were currently awaiting for their turn to walk out into the field, one more patiently than the other. Togaru was as hot blooded as they got amongst the hero course, though his classmates did not mind it much. Well Shiozaki and Ida scolded him whenever he swore, which was around a dozen times a day at least. But other than his sailor mouth he got along well with all of his classmates. Most of them even made it a game to guess how many times he would cause the two to scold him on a daily basis at this point.
Kendo despite being called the big sister of class 1-B had not bothered correcting him as he still showed his classmates respect… well enough anyway. Kamakiri however was not going to get off easy as his partner Rin was being even more serious today than usual.
"We need to conduct ourselves properly, this will literally be our first real exposure to the public as heroes. At least with the first two events any improper behavior was covered up by our fellow students' actions." Rin told his teammate, knowing how bad his temper can get at times.
Kamakiri rolled his eyes at the statement knowing full well this scolding for his behavior would be coming. The only reason he chose them was that as great as his quirk was for offence it was bad for defense. This was due to the possibility of one slightly off slash causing damage bad enough to disqualify him here. So instead of risking a blade tossed at long-range doing serious damage and getting him removed from the festival or worse expelled he chose Rin.
With their scale quirk being solid for both defense and offence he could rely on them to have his back in a close quarters fight. Not to mention he was also able to give them some coverage with long-distance attacks as he ran in to get close. Though it was never said, it was always a fighting round at the end of the tournament. He honestly half expected them to bring it down to the last eight teams and split everyone up.
Fortunately, they did not throw any more of a curveball than they usually did at UA so he had made a solid choice. "I know, I know, I will refrain from swearing out there. Just make sure you give me cover with your scales when I move in for a close quarters fight." He said as the foreign teenager from China nodded to him about to respond, that was when they heard their names called out.
UA SPORTS FESTIVAL
CENTRE FIELD
(THIRD PERSON POV)
After the first battle the crowd was more than warmed up to say the least. The heroes and the faculty of UA were happy to see this as well as the support course students were getting a fair amount of the audience cheers. Granted the hero course students still got more of them, but the amount of hopeful whispers of people wanting to see what the support course students made was great to hear.
Even if they did not teach them directly or had direct connections to the support gear business like Power Loader. They still wanted to see all the students get proper recognition for their abilities and hard work.
"ALL RIGHT PEOPLE, IF THAT FIRST BATTLE WAS A BANGER AND A HALF THEN THIS BATTLE IS GOING TO BE A SIDESHOW LIKE NO OTHER. HOW CAN I GAURANTEE THIS? WELL, LETS SAY I KNOW ONE OF THE GIRLS FIGHTING IN THIS ROUND PERSONALLY AND TRUST ME NORMAL IS NOT IN HER VOCABULARY." Mirko switched her mic off to take a swig of iced tea. Aizawa had turned off his as well knowing she was going to say something she probably did not want the audience to hear. "How the hell does Present Mic manage to do this every year?" She said letting out a sigh of relief her throat felt from the iced tea.
"His quirk strengthens his vocal chords to the point where he can tolerate screaming all day like it was nothing." Aizawa responded hating the fact that quirks came with naturally built in safety precautions sometimes. Then again, his own eyes would be more damaged and in pain than they already were due to how long he goes without blinking at a time.
"Coming from the east tunnel is a pair of young men from the hero course. One of them can creates blades from his body, has the wild ass mohawk to match his edgy quirk and personality, it is Togaru Kamakiri. His partner is more levelheaded but has proven to be just as determined to win this thing, it is Hiryu Rin!" Mirko announced as they entered, the first raising a fist for the crowd as the second one stoically walked forward without so much as acknowledging the crowd. This was not due to him not wanting to put on a show for the crowd, but because of his opponent.
For their opponent was the daughter in law of Mirko and Midnight, needless to say he knew it be no easy fight even if she was in the support course. Their classmate on the other hand would be simple enough to fight so long as they did not breath in her spores.
"COMING FROM THE WEST GATE A PAIR OF ASPIRING YOUNG WOMEN!" Mirko called out knowing the crowd loves to see female heroes. She pleasantly heard people eagerly cheering for them to come out and show themselves, as they should be. "ONE OF THEM MAY SEEM LIKE A SHY LITTLE MUSHROOM HIDING IN THE SHADOWS OF THE FOREST BUT I ASSURE SHE LOVES TO BE CENTRE STAGE, IT IS KINOKO KOMORI!" She said as the girl in question nervously waved to the audience while her daughter in law was waving vigorously to them with a broad smile on her face.
"THE OTHER IS A PINK HAIRED HURRICANE OF CREATIVE ENERGY LIKE NO OTHER, WELCOME HER AND HER 'BABIES' MEI HATSUME!" Mirko continued to announce with more vigor for them, with Aizawa quickly commenting baby meant invention. Mirko knew she was supposed to be impartial but… oh hell everyone knew she was not going to be impartial when it came to her children and Mei. Even Nezu practically admitted so when he told her to at least try to not sound one sided. Fortunately for Mirko her wife was much more impartial than her and could handle the job of referee well.
The support companies in the upper stands in their premium seating boxes had their eyes glued to her inventions. Especially after the previous support students managed to put such a fantastic fight against the Todoroki scion and his partner from the hero course. Including what they saw her use earlier they wondered what trick she would pull out her hat next, so to speak.
"Are you ready?" Midnight asked as she looked to both sides getting nods of approval from each indicating they were ready. "May this battle start… NOW!" She said bringing her fan down in a straight line in front of her giving them the signal to begin.
Begin they did as Kinoko used the fans to unleash a literal suffocating wind of spores as one of them coughed violently from whatever kind of mushroom spores they just inhaled. Neither boy fully expecting their female classmate to unleash the first attack were caught off guard and causing both to take a sharp breath.
This sudden sharp breath, however, only caused one of them to need to breath in more air sooner. As the other was used to fighting with less oxygen at higher altitudes. Granted both were still affected, the only difference being is that one of them could keep their guard up while the other was vulnerable to any long-range attacks that fortunately did not come.
"Are you okay Ri-" Kamakiri voice died in his throat as he saw Hatsume on his left where his partner should have been grinning maniacally. Arms crossed she launched a wave of small metal shrapnel from full length metal arm gloves she was not wearing when the fight had begun.
Not wanting to get hundreds of papercuts all over his body he knelt down to dodge them. Extending his blades from his forearm making them as long as he possibly could, he then created a wall like shield with them angling his arms to minimize the cuts on his arms.
"YOUR GOING DOWN CRAZY!" He said popping the large blades from his arms to grow and then throwing two smaller blades in a counterattack causing her to roll to the side. 'As expected of someone Mirko approves of as a daughter in law… she is tough!' Kamakiri though rushing forward to his opponent.
Hiryu Rin, who unlike his partner was used to training at high altitudes so he could hold his breath long enough to not get a lung full of spores. Though he still breathed in some through his nose, they were not enough for him to begin violently coughing like his partner. After taking a much shorter moment then them to clear his throat before talking to his partner he turned to them.
Except when he turned to his right, he saw Mei Hatsume cackling like a mad woman. He could have sworn he heard his teammate ask if he was ok, but he could not see where they were before they were cut off. Assuming that Mei strategy involved Kinoko dealing with his teammate he prepared to launch his scales. But out from her back she pulls out two metal sheets throwing them at him with astonishing strength. "YOUR GOING DOWN CRAZY!" She angerly screamed at him making him wonder if she even knew the definition of the word crazy before throwing two smaller metal blades at him forcing him to roll to the side.
Noticing she was then rushing to him holding two knives, Rin braced himself for the attack. As she had the dull sides pressed again her forearms in what he thought was her going to use her bodyweight to add extra strength to her strike. Unsure of whether or not Mirko taught her how to fight since she was not known to use weapons he wondered where she learned to fight.
Somehow despite clearly dodging her slash by a large margin when he jumped back, she somehow managed to get the shallowest of cuts on his nose. 'HOW THE HELL DID SHE DO THAT!' He screamed internally as he pivoted on the toes of his left foot; he took a massive leap back to the opponent's starting side of the field.
Striking back without hesitation as he knew giving her any opportunity to continue with a follow-up attack could lead to him being defeated. As well as leaving his partner alone to face two opponents at once. Launching scales at her feet he managed to trip her up, giving him the chance to dash forward and grab them just below their chest to throw them. However, feeling her legs briefly despite his arm not being anywhere near them he got distracted unable to throw her hard enough to get her out of the ring.
'Something is wrong here… but what is it?' Rin thought, trying to figure out why she seemed so out of character to him. Thinking hard about how he was somehow cut earlier as if she had longer arms… longer arms? When he thought about it the answer to her legs just now would also only make sense if she was taller than she actually appeared. "The only time I lost my sense of reality worse than this was when I accidently ate those psychedelic mushrooms on the mountain a few years ago when training." He said to himself as it occurred to him what was happening and how her appearance suddenly changed.
Seeing her charge at him with a feral grin he would associate more with his partner, he knew this was his only chance. "KAMAKIRI I'M GLAD TO SEE YOU KEPT YOUR PROMISE TO KEEP SWEARING TO A MINIMUM!" Rin shouted in desperation causing Mei, or rather he now knew for certain his partner Kamakiri to stop in their tracks.
"…Rin?" Kamakiri asked in quite shock unsure of what the hell was actually happening right now.
"Yeah, it's me, I think Mei and Kinoko used some sort of hallucinating mushroom spores to make us think we were both Mei." Rin told him before getting shocked in the collarbone by a stun gun, the last thing he saw before passing out was Kamakiri trying to warn him.
"You… HOW DARE YOU CALL THIS A FIGHT YOU BIT-" Kamakiri shouted about to swear when Kinoko did the same to him knocking him out cold.
"Sorry but there are children watching so I can't let you swear." Kinoko said bowing to the now unconscious Kamakiri who was twitching as he laid down by her feet.
"And the winner is… Mei Hatsume and Kinoko Komori!" Midnight said awkwardly as she too was unsure of what the hell she had just witnessed. The crowd itself, despite cheering were also unsure of what they saw clearly needing an explanation.
"All right people, to put it simply at the start of the fight Kinoko Komori used the powerful fans Mei Hatsume made to release a large amount of potent psilocybin spores. These spores combined with the adrenaline rush they were feeling from their eminent fight as well as their tunnel vision of thinking Mei was the only threat resulted in one of the most effective and terrifying plans ever seen in the UA sports festival." Aizawa said, taking a moment to drink some water as he let it set in for them all before, he continued.
"As a result, they fought each other with their full strength wearing themselves out enough to be taken out by what I assume was a homemade stun gun. Knowing they could not match their raw power or fighting ability they made use of every resource they had to win. That included the human resources part of the plan that was their opponents." He finished as everyone in the crowd began discussing their opinions among themselves.
Though some of them, a little more than a third approved of such a plan praising. It was most of this group that were made up of experienced heroes or support gear developers.
As for the other two thirds, which was mostly made up of civilians or newer heroes. They were crying out in discontent as they felt the girls did not actually fight like they were supposed to. This foolish mentality is what made those who actually knew how deadly it was to fight such villains shake their heads.
Only an amateur or complete fool relied on raw power. With a few exceptions like All Might who was fast and strong enough to beat most villains before they could fight back.
Mirko herself though preferring a straight up brawl between the two sides could not deny it was impressive their plan had actually worked so flawlessly. Making villains who teamed up turn on each other and stop working together well was a tactic Aizawa had employed regularly while undercover.
So, he knew even better than Mirko how useful it was to know how to play mind games with your opponent. However, the complaints and the defending arguments of praise for the two girls came to an abrupt stop when one little girl spoke up.
"YOU WERE AMAZING MAMA!" Elizabeth said waving her arms over the railing as she teetered on the edge about to fall off before her grandfather held her by her waist. This caused the audience nearby and all of the cameras to turn to her revealing a little girl who looked very similar to Mei, which was confirmed for the crowd a moment later.
"BE CAREFUL HONEY! YOU KNOW YOUR DAD DOESN'T LIKE IT WHEN YOU IGNORE SAFETY RULES!" Mei called out to her robot daughter internally admitting Izuku also gets on her case for not following safety standards all the time.
The audience, however, was shocked as based on the age of the little girl that meant only one thing. Mei had to have gotten pregnant at ten or eleven and give birth at eleven or twelve. Unsure of who the father was they were basically told a moment later by a certain eighteen-plus heroine.
"Listen to your mother and don't hurt yourself or else you won't be able to watch the sports festival from the stands there." Midnight reminded her granddaughter of what she had told her earlier before they took their seats.
"OKAY GRANDMA!" Elizabeth said confirming for everyone who the father was a Midnight was known to only have one son. Well, it would have if everyone was not still in shock from the previous revelation about the child's mother.
This made Izuku want to bury his head in the concrete wall of the hallways as his partner gave him his sympathy. The audience then began to freak out for an entirely different reason, this however was silenced by Mirko who threatened to shove a bunny themed shoe up the ass of the next person to call Izuku a pervert. And just like that, those who were shocked into a momentary stupor were reminded of who the father was.
