UA SPORTS FESTIVAL
WEST TUNNEL
(THIRD PERSON POV)
The two boys were worried as the immediate matchup with the girls threw a wrench in their plans, though they knew it was possible. But the odds were still in their favor that they would be able to climb the ranks and get to the finals. Originally the four knew if they went up against Todoroki they were done for, no matter what. But if it was Maple, then they could trick her somehow and knock her out of bounds, so they were hoping she would take out Todoroki for them.
"It's not manly to eliminate our teammates… but it's also not manly to just surrender! What do we do?" Tetsutetsu asked his partner in their room as they waited for the time to go and fight. Though they were surprised when one of the Wild Wild Pussycats asked them to hand over any quirk suppressant drugs.
"... back to your really dumb moral struggle." Monoma said, letting out a sigh before gently slapping his teammate upside the head. "Let's just give them our all. That way the better half of the team makes it to the final round and hopefully wins." He said making it clear what their only real plan was in this situation.
"First off man, OW! Secondly, despite the bad luck we got, WE'RE GONNA DO THIS THE MANLY WAY!" Tetsutetsu exclaimed, pumping his fist, not noticing the suspicious look Monoma had on his face.
'What are the odds of us four facing each other in the first round? Was it just a bout of bad luck?' Monoma kept to himself, as it would either go over his partner's head or make them cause a scene out there. So, he kept his accusations to himself, thinking that without proof it was better to keep quiet and bear his teeth. That was when a disturbed thought crossed his mind, one that made him worry for the audience's safety.
"Why would Nezu allow Maple to face Shiozaki in the first round?" Monoma whispered aloud, realizing that it was indeed an odd choice. After all, if Nezu was rigging the match for the four of them, then why would they risk Shiozaki pushing Maple over the edge? "Logically speaking he wouldn't, he would simply double down and do another match where she gets eliminated." He said, this time loud enough for Tetsutetsu to hear him.
"Who wouldn't do what? What are you talking about doubling down?" Tetsutetsu asked, making Monoma realize he spoke louder than the dull whisper he tried to keep to when thinking about this subject.
"Oh nothing… just thinking about when we have to kick Todoroki's butt in the semi-final round." Monoma said, trying to cover it up with his usual cocky attitude. Fortunately, this fooled Tetsutetsu as he gave him a shark toothed smile as he wrapped one of his arms around his shoulders.
"DAMN STRAIGHT WE'RE GONNA KICK HIS AND ASHIDO ASSES BEFORE WE FIGHT MAPLE OR HIMIKO!" Tetsutetsu said cheerfully, hoping to relieve what he thought was Monoma getting nervous too soon about a fight they might not have.

EAST TUNNEL
(THIRD PERSON POV)
Ochaco Uraraka, despite usually being unable to stay still too long due to her bubbly and cheerful, was now pacing the small room out of nervousness. Though not stupid by any measurement, she was not thinking much and leaving the planning up to Monoma and Jiro just like Tetsutetsu was. So when their plan went so badly right from the start, they were concerned as they could not think of any way to get around having to fight each other.
Kyoka Jiro had put her head together with Neito Monoma before to come up with their plan, albeit a simple plan. Not minding that their partners decided to leave the thinking up to them, as they were better fighters than thinkers.
That was not to say Uraraka was not as smart as her, the rock music loving teen would never call the girl stupid by any means. It was just that she was for lack of a better term, she was an average girl who lived an average life. So just like Tetsutetsu she did not have to learn how to read people or be cunning to get through life solely due to her quirk.
Monoma for his part, if not for his family wealth would have been treated almost as bad as mutant quirk users because of his copying quirk. Since people saw it as him being essentially quirkless if he did not imitate some else's unique power. Jiro for her part, like all mutants to some degree, was called weird or a freak. Even the boys with mutant quirks did not treat her like the other girls in her class due to her lacking what they considered to be important feminine features.
As a result of these past experiences, Monoma and Jiro picked up skills that lead to their plan up till now. For the young blond, he had to make use of cunning stratagem and what others would call cheap tricks to deal with bullies due to his lack of raw power. Jiro on the other hand, had to learn how to be observant of everyone around her in order to know when to hide or run away in time.
By combining these two specialties, the two students had decided the ideal pairing to assure all four got to round three. As well as the finals, where ideally they could take it easy after all their other matches and have a less intense fight, essentially a genuine sparring match.
Having both Uraraka and Monoma be the half inside the wall, they could use her quirk to make sure they did not fall and get eliminated. As for why they divided it up by boys and girls. While it was true that Tetsutetsu and Uraraka were both better suited for close combat due to their quirks. Tetsutetsu, unlike Uraraka, was essentially a brainless brute, so he would need Monoma help in the fights more than Uraraka. So, Jiro was fine with this pairing as was Uraraka, but now the pair were beginning to regret this decision.
Essentially this team was both not planning on giving their all in the finals if they met, but they also planned on taking advantage of essentially a four-person team. Both things they had no idea that Nezu hated, well the second one being for the first year of this format only.
"Calm down Ochaco." Jiro told her, sighing as their fight would start soon, and this pacing would not help her warmup at all.
"HOW CAN I BE CALM ABOUT THE PLAN GOING THIS WRONG!? WHY ARE YOU SO CALM!?" Ochaco yelled unintentionally at her teammate, who in her opinion was not behaving right.
"At this point all we can do is fight with everything we have. Whichever pair wins will have to carry the hopes of the other two, even if they have to face the two titans of the hero course." Jiro said seeing the realization and acceptance of the situation set in on Ochaco's face. Just like Monoma however, she was thinking something was up but decided not to tell her partner till later.
UA SPORTS FESTIVAL
CENTRE FIELD
(THIRD PERSON POV)
The fourth fight that Nezu told him they were afraid of being boring, therefore agitating the crowd, was about to begin. Now it is not to say that the teachers would ever consider the students fighting here as some form of entertainment, but rather another test. But like the crowd, if they pull their punches because they are more or less a whole team of four rather than two teams of two. It would upset the teachers as this fight would end up being useless to assess the students' current abilities.
"I hate fights like this… if they hold back against each other I am going to ask Nezu to punish them with extra harsh training instead of internships." Mirko said aloud, luckily both had their mics turned off while the commercials played in between matches.
"I assure you, us teachers, especially Nezu, who all hate such things will gladly agree with your idea in the after-festival meeting if it happens." Aizawa told her, seriously considering helping her to plan the spartan training. Getting the message to continue to the next match the two heroes turned their mics on and the commercials off.
"ALL RIGHT PEOPLE, ARE YOU READY FOR A FIGHT BETWEEN TEAMMATES!?" Mirko yelled, getting cheers in response from the anxious crowd. "I CAN'T HEAR YOU PANSIES!" the cheering grew even louder "THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! NOW FOR THE INTRODUCTIONS!" She said, deciding to go with the boys first, since Tetsutetsu had a bigger spotlight.
"FIRST UP IS THE BOY HALF OF THIS FEARSOME FOURSOME! THE METALLIC WALL OF MANLINESS, AND THE CONASUIR OF QUIRKS. TETSUTETSU TETSUTETSU AND NEITO MONOMA!" Mirko called out as they walked to the arena, with determined looks ignoring the audience. This behavior from the blond was a surprise to the teachers, as they were all expecting him to be showboating after hearing the audience cheer for him. Also… the looks in his and his partner's eyes were both the determined looks of warriors ready to fight with their all.
"FOR THE GIRL HALF OF THE TEAM, HERE THEY STEP UP TO THE MOST VIOLENT DANCE FLOOR AROUND. THE PUNK DJ WHO WILL BUST MORE THAN YOUR LIP, AND THE GRAVITY DEFYING BACK WITH LITERALLY SICKENING MOVES. KYOKA JIRO AND OCHACO URARAKA!" Mirko said, seeing the subtle strained smile and pinched glare from the gravity manipulating girl. It seemed she did not appreciate the joke about her quirk making her vomit if pushed to its limit. Though the crowd was eating up the girl power angle that the four students had unintentionally created by splitting the team by gender.
"All right everyone, you know the rules so are both sides ready?" Midnight said, getting nods from both sides as they got into position.
"BEGIN!" She declared setting off this struggle of allies.
Just as she said, they started the fight with Tetsutetsu turning into metal and charging forward with Monoma behind him. Jiro countered this by using her ear jacks to create a dust cloud, this move stopped the two boys in their tracks.
Just barely avoiding the fate of tripping over their own feet, the two boys caught themselves just in time to put their guards up. "I MAY BE AN IDIOT! BUT EVEN I KNOW BETTER THAN TO RUN IN THERE BLIND WHEN URARAKA CAN SEND ME FLYING WITH ONE TOUCH!" Tetsutetsu declared with a slightly nervous pride, despite calling himself an idiot.
Unfortunately for him, that was not how Ochaco would attack, rather the dust cloud was hiding the ammunition of her attack. Before the two boys knew it, pieces of concrete were being thrown at high speed. But the catch was that these pieces were hitting with strength beyond what something being thrown that fast by either of the two girls should be.
What had actually happened within the smokescreen was Ochaco making the pieces weightless, and then using Jiro hearing to figure out the distance of the boys. Once the distance was known, she could time her canceling out her quirk so the weight would suddenly return upon impact. Though some of the shots were not timed right, they still managed to hit with decent strength considering Tetsutetsu powerful defensive quirk. Sadly, for them, Monoma did not plan to let his partner keep taking the shots forever.
Deciding on the quirk he would use to counter it he decided to reveal/test his newest technique in the first ever fight he would use it in. After the attack on UA and using the powerful healing quirk he got from Maple, he realized he had a connection to her through her quirk. So, he began thinking about whether or not he could sense other quirks around him without touching people.
After some in depth practice, which included a lot of meditation. He discovered he could indeed sense the quirks of others like he did with Maple quirk at the time of the attack. However, he had a very limited range so he could only reach the first-row seats.
In that first row he found twin little girls with different coloured hair, but they had the same shockwave producing quirk. He also sensed other quirks in them along with the man sitting beside them, however he ignored this and wrote it off as a mistake on his part given how new his trick was.
Using the shockwaves he heard a yell from the smoke, and as he kept doing it the throwing stopped causing him to grin.
"Hey! When did you copy that shockwave quirk?" Tetsutetsu said as he forced his iron skin layer to smooth out filling in the literal cracks.
"Just now… I developed this technique thanks to Maple and the UA attack. But I can only do it if you buy me enough time to do so." Monoma said panting as this particular quirk was so strong it was draining his stamina quickly. The feeling of this quirk was actually very similar to Maple quirk, but he could not understand why.
"HOLY SHIT DUDE THAT'S SO MANLY!" Tetsutetsu exclaimed not fully understanding what was just explained to him but liking that Monoma had an ace up his sleeve. Tetsutetsu then picked up the stones and threw them with his regular strength. This created small holes all be it shortly in the dust cloud as Jiro used her ear jacks to break them all before they hit. As a result, the metallic youth was able to improve his aim with each shot, getting a few cuts here and there on the girls. The cuts are from both just barely missing them as well as from when she broke them, and the tiny shards still cut her.
The ones Jiro did not break were simply dodged. But it was still a struggle to find a counterattack as their dust cloud was starting to disappear. The increasing accuracy of their opponents was also starting to become a serious concern.
Their once shield in the form of the dust cloud, was now making it harder to dodge the attacks. But with whatever quirk Monoma copied, they could not wait for the dust cloud to disappear. As it was causing more damage to the arena floor she already did, keeping the dust cloud from disappearing on its own.
"We have no choice; we need to get close before Monoma attacks us directly with whatever quirk he copied. While I toss Tetsutetsu out of the arena I need you to hold him off for me." Ochaco told Jiro, getting a nod from the music loving hero student. Doing something to her hands quickly Ochaco was ready, so they both charged forward not wanting to take anymore damage.
The teachers however were concerned to see how tiring Monoma's new technique was. Mirko and Aizawa almost going silent before Midnight reminded them over their earpieces. "Focus! We can discuss this new trick and if it is a result of his quirk mutating due to Maple quirk after the sports festival is over." Midnight chastised them, as they all heard what Monoma said but the public didn't. Present Mic really saved their asses by taking control of some of the audio equipment quickly to filter out the students voices there.
"WHAT WAS ONE HELL OF A SHIELD THE GIRLS MANAGED TO MAKE HAS NOW TURNED AGAINST THEM." Mirko shouted excitedly on the outside, but disappointed on the inside. As this tactic was obviously very flawed from the beginning. Removing the use of Jiro quirk should have been an obvious and easy way to counter it. So, the girls not having a backup plan to immediately put into place was a bit of a sad sight for her as their teacher when it comes to fighting.
"By using the quirk he copied, not only did he keep the dust cloud going. But he also used it to prevent Jiro from tracking their movement on the other side of the dust cloud. Turning their own attack against them there is only one real option left for the girls and I believe they just realized it." Aizawa said with a slight up pitch in his voice indicating a smile. For those in the audience who knew him, that meant that something truly interesting was about to happen as he was a hard person to please.
Rushing through the smoke while keeping their heads low, they managed to dodge the last few throws before Tetsutetsu stopped. Rolling to the side, Jiro moved out of Ochaco way catching their friend off guard. To make sure Ochaco could get as close as possible before he could notice her fully, Jiro used her quirk in a quick burst to do so.
Ochaco managed to get even closer than she expected as she was able to slam her palm into his throat in an uppercut strike. This tripped him over backwards, forcing Monoma to jump back, and causing Ochaco to slide under the airborne metallic teen. Finishing it up she grabbed his arm and used his airborne state to slam him into the ground face first at full force. This move buried him firmly from the shoulders down with his front facing down unable to look up as he struggled to move.
Now she could have used her quirk to easily do so, but then it would have been far less damaging as a result. This made Aizawa and a certain ambassador on I-island happy to see this occur, with Mirko raising an eyebrow at this sight of him grinning ear to ear like a madman.
Both the crowd and the teachers were all impressed by this sight, as they expected her to rely on her quirk to send him flying through the air. Monoma was surprised at this sight as he was expecting her like everyone else did, for her to use her quirk. As a result, he could not use the shockwave quirk he used before to strike back as his partner would get caught in the attack as well. However, he knew one way to get her away from his template so he could recover and go over to Jiro. This was considered very surprising to everyone in the audience as the teachers knew the students' personalities better.
"NOW THAT IS HOW YOU BURRY SOMEONE! GO KICK THE OTHER ONES ASS TOO!" Mirko said, pumping her fist in the air, completely excited and forgetting she had to be neutral. This made Monoma pale a bit, but even so he did not stop, as he knew his only hope was to reach Jiro first.
"(cough) Yes that was indeed a good attack, using his own increased weight from his quirk as well as his momentum from fighting back to trap. However, it is clear Monoma is not done yet by a long shot and plans to even the score." Aizawa said, pulling the rabbit heroine back into her seat by the back of her leotard. Naturally he had the permission of her wife to grab her tail if need be, but he did not feel like turning off their mics quickly just to turn them back on right after.
However what seemed odd to the underground hero was that his co-host seemed unworried by the sight of Jiro about to get a direct attack by Monoma. If anything, it sent alarm bells going off in his head as she gave a small yet slightly savage grin.
Back to the fight, Monoma used one last shockwave to blast himself towards Jiro, turning on his copy of Tetsutetsu quirk. Ochaco who was unable to reach Jiro in time saw her take the tackle, only for Jiro to roll onto her back and kick Monoma out of the ring. The shocked looks on not just his and Ochaco faces, but also the audience was one of great joy for Jiro and Mirko.
Monoma was unable to stop himself from letting go as Jiro used her ear jacks to make his metal skin vibrate so he could not hold onto her properly. As a result, he was just barely sent flying and crashing outside of the ring as Jiro had purposely planned for this. Thinking that one of them would try to go after her if she positioned herself close to the edge and therefore easier to take down.
"NEITO MONOMA HAS BEEN ELEMINATED!" Midnight declared after a few moments of shock, which ended up timing with Tetsutetsu pulling himself free from the arena.
"After the training incident involving a destroyed faux apartment building. I decided to give her and some of the other physically weaker girls some private lessons on proper combat techniques. Though I will say this, Uraraka covering her thumbs to avoid her quirk activating when she attacked Tetsutetsu was something I did not see coming." Mirko calmly and confidently explained, taking pride in the girls she taught so they could better go toe to toe with the boys. This did not include Momo Yaoyorozu, Ibara Shiozaki, and Reina López sadly for the rabbit heroine, as she had wanted them all especially to do so.
Momo Yaoyorozu turned her down because her parents did not approve of her staying after school to learn it, citing a ridiculous reason. Apparently her 'lessons' would not be appropriate for a young lady, and they would hire someone else to do so that would teach her the lady-like way. Reina López was good at fighting already but was a bit too intense to use on people if she fought seriously. Given she trained by fighting wild animals Mirko was surprised by this, so she hoped she could teach her how to fight people safely while still using full force. The worst was Ibara Shiozaki as she said violence was against her pacifist code, making Mirko want to groan in pain at such a foolish idea.
Jiro however was her best among the students she taught, with Ochaco being the next best for different reasons. Jiro was the fastest learner, while Ochaco had the most talent aside from Kendo who did martial arts training since she was a little girl.
This training was sadly necessary since unless they had a mutation quirk like Mirko that enhanced their muscles and their growth. Then males would almost always be stronger than female heroes in terms of raw strength as this was just a fact of nature.
"WE'RE NOT DONE YET!" Tetsutetsu yelled as he charged forward at the two of them. Hoping he could at least drag the two of them out of the ring with him, making them touch the ground first. Realizing that earlier her hands had to be partially covered and unable to use her quirk, he thought this was his best chance to take them down. Sadly for him, Jiro was quicker and more accurate with her ear jacks than he thought.
As he charged and was just a few steps away, Jiro used her ear jacks to quickly pull off the ripped sports jacket covering her thumbs. Only able to widen his eyes in astonishment as Ochaco took a step forward, closing the gap before he could stop himself just short of reaching her.
Ochaco grabbed his arm activating her quirk, stopping his forward momentum entirely swinging him to her left and out of the ring. Going as far as to jump out herself as he grabbed hold of her with his other arm so she could kick him off of her. Then she safely deactivated her quirk causing him to stop flying sideways and fall down immediately. Pushing him down into the ground with her own weight she smiled at the declaration that followed.
"TETSUTETSU HAS BEEN ELIMINATED! THE WINNERS ARE OCHACO URARAKA AND KYOKA JIRO!" Midnight declared as the audience cheered for them, clapping their hands vigorously for the young ladies.
Releasing her quirk, Ochaco got off of Tetsutetsu and helped him up as Monoma got up on his with Jiro jumping down to join them.
"Not bad for you two, but unfortunately for you Mirko-sensei made sure we could beat you boys in technique even if you had us beat in muscle." Ochaco said smiling as she gave Jiro a high five as she walked up beside her.
"Fair enough, you ended up handing us our asses. A real man can admit to that! By the way, nice throw Jiro!" Tetsutetsu said after seeing the replay on the screen as he laughed heartily before wrapping his arm around Jiro. Due to the height difference and his blinding enthusiasm, he missed, he swung his arm too low and too close to her chest. Resulting in his hand grabbing a hold of her left breast.
"... Sorry?" was all he could say after breaking the now awkward silence of the stadium before she flipped him onto his back and stomped on his chest with a bright red face.
"I know you did not intend to do that, but all other boys should also take this as a lesson. If you are going to hug a female classmate in any way shape or form, be very careful when doing so." Mirko coldly said with a sigh as she along with all the other staff knew full well how thoughtless and energetic the young man could be.
Kind was definitely a word that could describe him, but unfortunately also thoughtless and energetic were also keywords to describe. The last two being a bad combination, but made even worse with how well intentioned the person would usually be when doing the thing that got them in trouble.
