Chapter 4: The Existence of Slugterra
It had been a few days since the incident at THI. Max, Steel and the Ferrus Quintuplets were enjoying lunch at the cafeteria at N-Tek. Except Steel since he can't eat. Their slugs were there too, eating slug chow for lunch. While they ate, Zad noticed that some of the N-Tek agents were looking at them. "Why are these agents looking at us?" He asked. "It's not us they're looking at. They're looking at them." Max said, gesturing to the slugs. "They've never seen slugs before since they're unlike normal slugs here on the Surface." Yeager said. "Max, do you remember you and your cousins said you'd tell me about your slug friends?" Steel asked. Max and the quintuplets nodded. "We'll tell you everything right after lunch." Max said.

Max and the quintuplets walked down the hallway with their slugs on their shoulders or their heads. On the way, they met up with Forge, Berto, Jefferson and Kat. "Ah. There you are. We've been looking for you." Forge said. "What's up?" Vandana asked. "Follow us to the communication room. We have a personal matter to discuss about your slugs. The other agents began talking about them since they're now being called interesting creatures." Forge explained as they walked down the hallway to the communication room.
Once at the communication room, Max and the quintuplets began to explain everything about the slugs to Steel, Forge, Berto, Jefferson and Kat. "These slugs are from an underground world called Slugterra." Max said. "It's a world made of over 90 different caverns where people and many other creatures, including the slugs, thrive." Wandella said. "The caverns thrive because the slugs give off a special energy. Without them, the caverns could die." Zad said. "The slugs can also be used to help fight by using these special blasters. When a slug is fired, when it hits velocity, it transforms and use different powered attacks." Yeager explained. "Our slugs were given to us 10 years ago by our friends' father." Xena said. "Why didn't you kids tell me about these slugs when you were kids?" Forge asked. "You wouldn't have believed us, Dad." Zad said. "That's why we didn't show them to you, Dad. The slugs kept themselves hidden from you until we felt the time was right. Only our mothers knew about the slugs." Vandana said.
Later, Max and the quintuplets gathered in the training arena after it was cleaned up from Max and Steel's previous training program. They were going to perform a few slug duels for Forge and the others. Vandana and Yeager stepped up first. Vandana loaded and slung Disco, her Phosphoro. "Cover your eyes!" Max exclaimed. Everyone covered their eyes as Disco transformed and almost blinded them with Flashbang. "Now that was my little darling, Disco. He's called a Phosphoro. He can act like a flash bomb and a signal flare." Vandana explained. Yeager loaded and slung Shard, his Thresher. Shard spun like a buzz saw and headed towards Vandana. But Vandana leaned back and dodged with style and grace. "That was Shard. He's a Thresher. He's able to act like a buzz saw and cut through most things." Yeager explained. Vandana loaded and slung Pharaoh, her Sand Angler. Pharaoh struck Yeager in between his legs and created a quicksand patch. Yeager quickly leapt out of the way before he could get sucked in. "Not cool, Van." He grumbled. "Sorry, Yeag. Pharaoh's called a Sand Angler. He can trap a person in a quicksand pit." Vandana explained. Yeager loaded and slung Emerald, his Geoshard. Emerald trapped Vandana in a cage of crystals. "Now that's Emerald. She's a Geoshard. Their capable of creating domes made of geo crystals." Yeager explained. Vandana loaded and slung Stickers, her Jellyish. Stickers covered Yeager in Loogi, grossing everyone out. "Oh, this is just great. You remember last time Stickers did this? I was in the shower all day scrubbing this gunk off!" Yeager complained. "Sorry. But that's what counts when Stickers' a Jellyish. They spit very sticky slime." Vandana explained. Yeager loaded and fired Bombie, his Blastipede. Bombie fired dozens of little blue balls all over the arena. "Uh oh." Vanada whimpered, knowing what was gonna happen. But before Bombie could set them off, Yeager loaded and slung Humming, his Hoverbug. Humming picked up Vandana and carried her off just as Bombie touched his antennae together, setting the balls off like bombs. "Now that's what I call a helpful combo. Bombie's called a Blastipede. They can launch dozens of those little blue balls from their backs, then set them off like bombs by touching their antennae together. And Humming's called a Hoverbug. They can grab people and carry them off like a bird does its dinner." Yeager explained. But as Humming set Vandana down, she cringed and grabbed her leg. It was caught in the blast and heavily burned. Yeager gasped at this. "I'm so sorry, Van. Are you okay?" He asked in concern. "Yeah. I will be in a second. Do your thing, Omar." Vandana said. Her White Boon Doc, Omar, hopped down to Vandana's leg and started to glow, using his powers to heal the burn. Forge, Steel and the others were amazed. There wasn't even any scarring left. "Impressive, right? Omar's a Boon Doc. The rare white version. They can heal just about any type of injury." Vandana explained. "Oh, and Yeager? Just for that…" She loaded and slung Goldilocks, her Midas. Goldilocks blasted Yeager with Goldray, turning him into a gold statue. "Yeager!" Forge cried as the others were shocked by this. "Don't worry, Dad. Goldilocks will be able to reverse her power." Vandana said as Goldilocks hopped back to her. Then she reloaded her and slung her back at Yeager, reversing the effect and changing him back. "I deserved that." Yeager said as he caught his breath. "Anyway, Goldilocks is called a Midas. Like the legendary King Midas, she can turn anything into gold. She can also reverse the effect." Vandana explained. Just then, Wasabi, Yeager's Neotox, hopped up to Yeager's shoulder, chittering with anticipation. "Oh. Sorry, Wasabi. But I can't sling you. It's too air tight in here. You understand, don't you?" Yeager asked. Wasabi chittered with understanding. "Who's that slug, Yeager?" Kat asked. "This is Wasabi. He's called a Neotox. They can create a toxic fog cloud that can paralyze a person for a limited time." Yeager explained. Kat cringed at that, immediately regretting the question.
Now it was Xena and Zad's turn. Xena went first as she loaded and fired Iris, her Flatulorhinkus. Iris exploded around Zad with Blorfball. "Oh, geez! That stink!" Zad exclaimed as he coughed from the stink. Even Forge caught a whiff of the smell, waving his hand in front of his nose. Berto and Kat pinched their noses when they smelled it and found it awful while Jefferson almost threw up his lunch because of the disgusting smell. "Yeah. Iris is called a Flatulorhinkus. She can give off a powerful blast of gas." Xena explained. After recovering from the smell, Zad loaded and slung Hailstorm, his Frostcrawler. Hailstorm blew Deepfreeze at Xena, freezing her on the spot. Everyone got chills from this. Even Steel felt cold. "Now Hailstorm is called a Frostcrawler. He can freeze up to anything. Even the smallest of campfires." Zad explained. Xena broke free of her icy prison, and out of anger from feeling the cold, she loaded and slung Nuzzel, her Tazerling. Nuzzel shocked Zad hard with Tazercoil. "Whoa! A little extreme there, Xena." Zad said, recovering from the shock. "S-S-Sorry, Z-Z-Zad. B-B-But you know I h-h-hate the c-c-cold." Xena said as she shivered. Zad shook off the shock as he stood back up. "Now, Nuzzel's called a Tazerling. They can deliver an electric shock that can either do damage or short out anything electric." Xena explained as she warmed herself up. Zad loaded and slung Swirl, his Tormato. Swirl blew Xena into the wall with Galestorm. Everyone cringed from that. "Sorry. Swirl's called a Tormato. They can create powerful forces of wind." Zad explained. As Xena recovered, she loaded and slung Giggles, her Gazzer. Giggles hit Zad with Hilariteaser, making him laugh uncontrollably. "See, Giggles is called a Gazzer. Their gassy powers work like nitroxide, making people laugh uncontrollably." Xena explained. As soon as Zad recovered from all the laughing, he loaded and slung Boomerang, his Speedstinger. Boomerang bounced around and ricocheted off the walls, with everyone closely following each direction, until finally hitting Xena in the belly. "Sorry, Xena. Now Boomerang is called a Speedstinger. They're one of the most unpredictable slugs ever. They ricochet off many things with many possible trajectories." Zad explained. As Xena recovered while grasping her belly, she loaded and slung Izzy, her Polero. Izzy wrapped around Zad's legs and tripped him. "Izzy's called a Polero. They're a slug of 2 heads when they transform. They use the string connecting their heads to trip opponents." Xena explained. Zad managed to untie Izzy from his legs, then he loaded and slung Shade, his Negashade. Shade shrouded Xena with Shadowblak. Then Zad loaded and slung Jinn, his Frightgeist. Jinn hit Xena through the shadows with Frightningrod. "No! No, no! Get away!" Xena cried, thinking that the shadows were attacking her. "Calm down, Xena. There's nothing attacking you." Zad said. Xena whimpered for a minute until the Frightningrod's effects wore off. "Okay. I'm okay." She said, panting heavily. "Good. Now then, Shade's called a Negashade. They can create big fogs of shadows. And Jinn's called a Frightgeist. They can turn even the mightiest of warriors into a quivering fear-filled coward." Zad explained. After Xena shook off Jinn's effects, Macaroon, her Flopper, hopped up to her shoulder. "Oh. And this is Macaroon. She's a Flopper. They don't really have any powers, but they're useful in their own way." She explained.
Finally, it was Max and Wandella's turn. Wandella went first as she loaded and slung Sunny, her Hop Rock. Sunny fired her Scrapnel move. Max ran to dodge the attack. He was about to load Sophocles, his Xmitter, but suddenly, his Turbo Energy surged around his blaster, shorting it out and destroying it. The quintuplets gasped at this. "Oh man. Not again." Max groaned as he looked at his destroyed blaster. "Wow. I guess Turbo Energy can short out even Slugterran technology." Zad said. "Yeah. That blaster's gonna need some serious repairs." Vandana said. Just then, Berto walked up to them. "If you want, Max, I can probably fix it and modify it to handle your Turbo Energy." He offered. Max looked at his blaster, thinking it over. "Alright, Berto. I trust you." He said, handing his blaster to Berto. "Once the demonstration is over, I'll have this blaster fixed up in no time." Berto assured.
"Uh, this is all very swell and all, but what am I gonna do to show off the rest of my slugs?" Wandella asked. "Never worry. I got you covered." Berto said, pressing a button on his wristwatch. And just then, 4 C.Y.T.R.O. Bots dropped down into the training room. "Ah, perfect." Wandella said. As the C.Y.T.R.O.s charge towards her, she loaded and slung the rest of her slugs at each of them, one by one. Pincer, her Armashelt, bashed through the first C.Y.T.R.O.'s chest-plating. Choco, her Rammstone, gave a big punch and knocked the second C.Y.T.R.O.'s block off. Rainstorm, her AquaBeek, fired Aquajet at the third C.Y.T.R.O., shorting out its circuits. And Nuclear, her Grenuke, latched onto the fourth C.Y.T.R.O.'s head and its tail began sizzling. "Get down!" Wandella exclaimed. Everyone ducked down as Nuclear exploded, taking the C.Y.T.R.O.'s head. "Alright. That's my special little slugs. Pincer's an Armashelt. Their shell-like armor's really tough like a turtle. Choco's a Rammstone. Their powerful horns and punches can burst through even the toughest of brick walls. Rainstorm's an AquaBeek. They can fire jets of water from the spouts on their heads. Sunny's a Hop Rock. They're very explosive and they're Scrapnel moves are wickedly sharp. And Nuclear's a Grenuke. They're more explosive than Hop Rocks. Believe me." Wandella explained.
"And what about your slugs, Max? We know you can't show us what they can do, but could you tell us?" Jefferson asked. "Alright." Max said as his slugs lined up along his arm. "Now Colress is a Slicksilver. Their bodies can act like a living ball of magnetized metal." He explained. Colress chittered proudly. "Candy's a Thugglet. They can create life-like illusions." Candy chittered. "Tunnel's a Crystalyd. They can dig vast tunnels at a rapid pace." Tunnel chittered. "Sophocles is an Xmitter. They can knock out anything electronic for a limited time, including our blasters." Sophocles chittered. "And Viola's an Arachnet. She can spin big safety webs. Like the one she spun to save my life back at THI." Viola chittered.
Forge was really impressed. "Very interesting. I should like to explore and investigate this Slugterra." He said. "I'm afraid you won't get that chance, Dad." Yeager said. "Why not?" Forge asked. "The Surface and Slugterra have to be kept separate and secret from each other." Vandana explained. "If the Surface ever learned about Slugterra, the magic down there will die." Zad explained. "And there are too many dangers between here on the Surface and down in Slugterra. That's why the 2 worlds can't mix." Max explained. Berto, Jefferson and Kat looked at each other with concern at what Max and the quintuplets just said, knowing their commander's obsessive ambitions.
Later, after Max, Steel and the quintuplets went back to the apartment, Max sat in his shared room working on a little project. He was doodling something in his sketchbook. "Wow, Max. This is some really advanced stuff." Steel said. "I always had a bit of a big brain. It's how I always did so well in every school I've ever been to before we moved here." Max said. Just then, Yeager walked in. "What's up, Yeager?" Max asked. "Well, my siblings and I got something we want to show you." Yeager said. Max and Steel followed Yeager into the living room where the other siblings were waiting. "Okay. What is it you wanted to show me?" Max asked. "Well, we just discovered something really cool." Vandana said. Then she and her siblings started using their mana powers to manifest new suits.
Vandana's suit was amaranth pink and white, and took an appearance of a magician with an amaranth pink mask to conceal her identity. Wandella's suit was violet and black, and took the appearance of a street fighter with a violet mask to conceal her identity. Xena's suit was cerise and light pink, and took the appearance of a shrine maiden with a cerise mask to conceal her identity. Yeager's suit was medallion and pale yellow, and took the appearance of a phantom with a medallion mask to conceal his appearance. And Zad's suit was lime and dark green, and took the appearance of a samurai with a lime mask to conceal his identity.
Max and Steel were surprised and impressed with their new looks. "You like them? You can call me Amaranth Magician." Vandana said. "Call me Violet Fury." Wandella said. "Call me Cerise Healer." Xena said. "You can call me Medallion Phantom." Yeager said. "And you can call me Lime Samurai." Zad said. "How did you guys do this?" Steel asked. "We discovered that we can change any attire we like with a bit of magic." Vandana said. "Mom told us that our mana powers are a bit related to magic." Yeager said.
Later that night, while everyone slept, Max sat in his bed. He was thinking about his childhood friends. 'We'll see each other again, old friends. I know it.' He thought before he went to sleep.
