Saving the World, Saving Hearts
Chapter 6 of my crossover story, enjoy.

Now onto the story, just a heads up, there is a bit of a DC crossover here as needed to use a superhero from that for one of the female characters, as we couldn't get another hero that had a mask to hide their identity.

Dire Discovery
Swinging out into Central Park, Jake was fully suited up and worried as he began to close in on the North End of Central Park. As he drew closer he noted both Thomas and Barbara come flying in, suited up as their super-hero alter-egos, Iron-Man and Iron-Girl. They found Terry already waiting and waving them over, the White Tiger.
"Good you made it, just waiting on two of the others now." She said.
"What's this all about?" Iron-Girl asked.
White Tiger shook her head. "Not yet, we're waiting till everyone's here."
They looked around at the others already present. Kelsey was already there, suited up as Speed Demon. Matthew and Stephanie were also present in their own suits, as the Blue Beetle and Batgirl respectively.
"So we're just waiting for Amanda and Eddie." Spider-Boy noticed.
The others nodded and they waited, luckily it was not a long wait and soon Eddie and Amanda arrived at the same time, fully suited up and ready as Black Panther and The Wasp.
"Sorry we're late." He said quickly.
She shook her head. "Yeah, so, um...what's going on, you know that call was very unfortunate timing. I had to come up with an excuse for mom quickly, before she got suspicious."
The others all nodded in agreement, either having had to do the same, or knowing what she meant, having had their own experiences of just such a thing. Finally all eyes turned to White Tiger.
She took a deep breath and led the way.
"Luckily I spotted this pretty early on as I was patrolling, nobody else has seen it yet but I've sent a warning to the police and they're going to send a special containment unit to bring it in, I just hope they're careful enough, something about this is pretty...worrying." She explained.
They all shared a look but followed her to a secluded part of the park, covered in bushes and trees. White Tiger pointed to a strange mass in the middle of the enclosed area.
"It's exactly where I found it, not been touched or anything. Try not to touch it, I don't like whatever that is covering it." She explained.
They began to look even closer and soon saw it, some sort of slimy grey skinned like creature, it lay partially curled and realized it was most likely dead. But that wasn't the only thing that drew their attention, also on the creature's skin and a black film like substance which still seemed to move, but sluggishly, as if it too was dying, having outlived the creature it was covering.
"How strange…" Iron-Girl muttered.
Iron-Man shook his head. "More than strange."
He activated a few protocols on his suit and held out his palm to the creature, scanning it. As they examined it, Black Panther couldn't help but notice.
"Something seems weird about this thing, weirdly...familiar." He remarked. "But I'm sure we've never seen something like that."
Blue Beetle bit his lip. "I know what you mean, it looks like-"
But it was Batgirl who made the connection.
She gasped and looked around at all of the others.
"You guys...it looks like, like one of those creatures our parents told us about." She explained. "One of those, things from the Upside-Down. What did you dad call it?"
She addressed the last part to Black Panther who knew what she meant and very quickly made the connection.
"Yeah, looks like a, what was it again...a Demodog. Yeah that was it." He replied.
Blue Beetle narrowed his eyes. "Wait, what...that's, that's crazy, our parents closed the Upside-Down for good, destroyed that monster Vecna...how can something from there be here."
"Whatever the reason, it's led to this thing...being dead." Speed Demon said, shaking her head. "But that's odd, I don't recall ever hearing about them being covered in that stuff."
She pointed to the black substance. Iron-Girl shook her head.
"I know what you mean...that certainly isn't part of this creature, naturally."
Spider-Boy sighed. "Guys, we've got a problem here, if this thing is from the Upside-Down, it means it's somehow open again, which means someone managed to open it and whoever they are...they're clearly a threat."
White Tiger considered for a moment too. "You know, I just realized...the things he was saying. You think Scorpion was looking for this?"
"Not this specifically." Wasp remarked. "But maybe whatever the black stuff is."
"You think that's important?" Spider-Boy asked. "It doesn't look like anything special."
Just then there was a beeping noise from Iron-Man's suit and he checked the readout and froze.
"Uh, yeah, about that guys. It's worse than we thought."
He then turned to show them the readout to reveal just what the black substance was, having been identified.
They looked at the read out and froze, eyes wide as Iron-Man voiced their fears.
"It's...it's a Symbiote."
A thick, terrifying silence filled them as they stood in stunned shock, remaining frozen. It took some time for them to even move again, finally Blue Beetle spoke, his voice shaky.
"Wait, a Symbiote...that's, that not…" He swallowed. "If this is a Symbiote, then there's only one place it could have come from, but then, this thing is from the Upside-Down. How…"
It was Batgirl who openly voiced their fears. "It's...it's Venom, it can only be him, Venom is back…"
"Back and he's penetrated the barrier into the Upside-Down." White Tiger remarked. "This is, this is bad...what is he planning?"
Spider-Boy shook his head. "Venom is always a problem for us, a monster...but if he's got access to a place like the Upside-Down that our parents told us about and if it's even half as dangerous as they warned us about…"
He didn't need to finish, they knew full well how dangerous that was and worried them all greatly. They had to head home now, just hoping the specialised unit that was sent would be careful in how they handled this, meanwhile they needed to stay alert and figure out what to do next, their fears greater than before.
