Moments of Happiness

The summer vacation was proving to be quite an interesting one for the young Avengers, especially for those who were already dating, having taken their loves out on dates and looking to enjoy some peace, knowing it could change at any time. Meanwhile those who didn't have dates but crushes had managed to talk to their crushes and there was indeed hopes for them getting closer. They had all ended up going to the same place, much to their amusement as they saw each other. Namely the Coney Island Amusement Park, which had been renovated and become a very impressive and bright place, now under the control of the reformed former super-villain, Quentin Beck, formerly Mysterio. Her certainly kept one thing from his time as Mysterio however, his flair for theatrics, only this time designed to entertain rather than terrorize or be used to facilitate crimes.

"This was a great idea, huh?" Stephanie remarked.

Matthew smiled warmly at his girlfriend. "Yeah, it's great that we all had the same idea."

Stephanie smirked. "True, but you should be more interested in aiming, hot shot."

Matthew looked and then groaned when he saw what had happened. He and Stephanie were playing the Hydro-Bench, a classic game where they had to aim a water cannon at a target and keep up a constant aim at the target to inflate a balloon until it popped, which Stephanie's just did, meaning she had won. He groaned but shook his head, just his luck.

Jeff smiled lightly as he sat in his seat, while the time twister ride was relatively sedate in speed, it would pick up every now and again as a surprise. It was still a fun ride and he turned his head to Barbara who sat in the seat next to him. Their hands were linked between the seats and he squeezed her hand slightly, she turned her head to him, meeting his gaze and they both smiled warmly.

"This is quite nice, of course some of the others went for more...dramatic rides, right?" Barbara quipped.

Jeff laughed softly but shrugged. "I suppose so, but this suits me just fine, whoa!"

The ride sped up at that point, making both of them cheer and laugh.

"Yeah, of course. Me too." Barbara replied when things slowed a little. "Well, all I can say is, between us all, we've got the run of the park I think."

Jeff snickered at that, but knew she was right, they'd all split up through the park and were taking advantage of most of the rides or attractions, of course there were others around, but it was clear that they had pretty much spread out to find every bit of fun they could.

At the Swish-Swish stand, the basketball hoop game naturally had attracted Eddie's attention and he grinned as he took aim and threw a perfect shot, right into the hoop.

"Nice shot." Tanya laughed as she watched.

Glancing back at his crush, Eddie flushed slightly but then nodded to the empty lane next to his.

"You can give a try if you want." He offered.

Tanya shrugged. "Um well...why not."

She stepped up with a grin, making a notable sight with her somewhat punk skater vibe, picking up the basketball and taking aim, at the same time Eddie picked up the returned ball and aimed again for another shot. He took the shot and it hit perfectly, Tanya took her shot too, but it bounced off the lip, she frowned but Eddie sent a reassuring smile at her.

"Hey, it's fine, here, let me show you." He said, drawing closer, before stopping. "Um, you don't...you don't have a problem with me touching you, gotta help you get into position."

There was a definite blush on Tanya's pale skin but she replied.

"It's okay."

So he helped her get in position and then stepped back.

"Now, focus…" He said, continuing the advice he had been giving. "And shoot."

She did so and the ball hit the lip, spun around it and fell through the net.

"Alright, nice!" She grinned.

Eddie nodded. "Yup, not bad at all."

They both shared a smile, as well as feeling a spreading warmth deep within them.

At the Knock 'Em Down stand, an amusement park classic of throwing a ball to knock over a stack of cans to pin a prize, Thomas grinned as his throw knocked over every can and Olivia cheered next to him.

"Wow, that was amazing, nice shot." She said happily.

"Anything for my lovely lady." Thomas said in a faux posh accent.

This made not only Olivia but the stall owner laugh as he handed over the prize, a colourful and beautiful stuffed animal which Thomas handed to Olivia. She held it in her arms and gave him a wide smile, a dusting of pink visible on her cheeks even through her delectable cocoa hued skin.

"So, where should we go now?" Thomas asked as he put his arm around his girlfriend.

She snuggled into him and looked around before pointing. "Oh, let's go on the Flying Mantis."

Thomas agreed wholeheartedly and they headed over, climbing into their seat in the themed chair-o-plane ride and as they enjoyed the ride, Thomas glanced at Olivia and smiled happily at her enjoyment.

'This is easily one of the things that make me happiest, just seeing Olivia smile.' He thought, before becoming serious and worried. 'This is what's most at risk with Venom on the loose...I must defend her, defend those who are at risk from him.'

But he firmly told himself, that was not what today was about, he went back to enjoying the day with his beautiful cheerleader girlfriend.

The Octoride was another themed ride, a typical octopus ride from an amusement park, but in a bit of humour from Beck, had been reinvented so the arms that attached to the 'pod's the riders sat in were fashioned similarly to the tentacles of one of the first super-villains Jake had faced, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio being the other one.

"Wow, I've gotta say, isn't that kinda tasteless?" Jessica queried.

Jake bit his lip but shrugged. "I suppose in a way...but I think it's Mr. Beck's way of making fun of his past, it was working together that led to them both being beat by Spider-Boy that first time."

Jessica laughed at that. "Yeah, that was something, nobody thought a young hero could stand a chance against those guys, but he did it."

"Tell me about it." Jake said, making it seem like he knew about it the same way she did, from the TV coverage. 'Of course I actually know all about it from first hand experience...it was a close thing, I didn't even think I was gonna win, but I did.'

He had to admit, the ride was a nice idea and it certainly helped draw him and Jessica closer, rather literally at this point as she shifted closer to him, making him blush and hope he didn't do anything to mess things up.

"Yeah, take that, gotcha, oh c'mon, you said this was hard dude?" Amanda joked, laughing as she did so.

Nathan just laughed as he tried to keep up. "How are you so...you've got double my score, Amanda?"

She just shrugged and stepped back as the alarm blared to signal the end of their most recent game of Hydra Head Hitter, a variant of Whack-A-Mole. The two of them observed the score, Nathan had done pretty good, scoring a firm 38 hits while Amanda had an unbelievable 76.

"How did you even do that?" He laughed in amazement.

Amanda shrugged and gave an excuse. "Quick Hands. Wanna go another round?"

But Nathan shook his head. "I think my ego's been bruised enough. Didn't we plan to meet up with all the others after we were done anyway...they should all be ready to meet by now."

Amanda nodded. "True, well, almost all ready...but never mind, let's go."

She led the way with Nathan following, the two of them were rather startled by the warm feelings swirling within them, although they said nothing to each other about it yet, they all felt strong hope that what they currently had together could indeed lead to something more.

It was true, there was one last pair that wasn't quite finished, mostly because they were seated together in and currently at the top of the Big Wheel which offered them an amazing view of the surrounding area.

"Wow, I...I've lived here all my life, but...I've never actually seen something so amazing." Michelle said, adjusting her glasses while trying to get a better look.

Praying she wasn't a blushing mess and giving her best smile, Terry smiled at the girl who had won her heart.

"I know, it's actually amazing when you think about it." She said warmly. "There's a lot of amazing things to see in this city, but most people don't stop and take it in...it's only when you do that you learn just how beautiful things really are."

Michelle agreed and turned her beautiful smile and sparkling eyes to Terry which made her feel like a complete mess inside, but did her best to keep her cool, she didn't want to scare Michelle off by being too forward. Regardless they enjoyed their time on the big wheel and by the time it was over they hurried back to join the others and together the whole group went on and enjoyed the Speed Demon Roller Coaster after which they all finally parted ways, getting rides or walking home, the young Avengers were all gathered together, which turned out to be good for them when it happened. Their phones all buzzed at the same time and they checked it. It was their Super-Hero group chat and it contained a message from Kelsey with a simple warning.

"Suit up, Vulture on the prowl over Chinatown."

End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
