In her uniform after getting ready for the day, Leah had left for her first shift as an officer for the Detroit Police Department… and she and Fowler briefly shook hands.

"Good to see you here, kiddo." Fowler responded.

"Feels strange being here in an official capacity." Leah admitted.

"You'll get used to it, the first day is kind of boring. Just paperwork, usually." Fowler explained.

Something about those words weren't comforting at all… but neither of them knew it at the time.

For the most part, the day had been paperwork as well as Gavin and Tina taking her to lunch to try to ease her nerves… and then her first patrol happened as evening set upon the city.

She wasn't alone as 39 year old Antony Deckart gently smiled at her while they were stopped at a red light.

"It's alright, kid. Gavin was a nervous wreck on his first day too, not much happens." Antony responded before they heard "Any unit to respond, multiple gunshots at the Phillips apartment on 1554 Park Ave. Possibly one fatality." and Leah grabbed the scanner.

"Officer Anderson and Detective Deckart en route." Leah replied, Antony turning the sirens on and driving.

"I think I jinxed us." Antony responded.

"It's the downtown area… I know that address, I used to babysit their daughter." Leah replied.

Running into the apartment building and reaching the 70th floor, Leah and Antony saw that the SWAT team was there and she knew this was a lot worse than she imagined as Captain David Allen approached them.

"We heard the call over the scanner." Leah responded.

"Fuck's sake, how old are you?" David asked.

"19, sir." Leah replied.

"God, you're just a kid. I want you protected, you shelter yourself behind the counter." David explained.

"Yes, sir." Leah responded before she found the counter in the kitchen and hid behind it, Antony crouching down to her.

"Aim your gun when you see a clear shot and take it, Leah." Antony whispered, Leah clicking the safety off of her gun and aiming it as she heard familiar yelling.

"Daniel…" Leah responded quietly, seeing his LED blaring a distressed red.

"I'm sorry, kid, but he snapped. He needs to be neutralized." Antony whispered before he quietly moved closer to try to get a clear shot.

A gunshot rang out and Leah tried to rush to Antony as he fell to the floor, managing to get away from one of the SWAT members and attempting CPR.

Leah yelled as she was dragged back, seeing David.

"Stand down, Officer, that's an order!" David replied firmly before he rushed back to two of the SWAT members. "Have ambulances and the coroner on standby."

Seeing her chance, Leah crept closer to the terrace and stood up with the gun aimed at Daniel… who turned his gun from Emma to her.

"DPD! Let go of the girl and surrender!" Leah ordered.

"Fuck you, you little bitch! You're no better than the other humans!" Daniel shouted before he pulled the trigger and was startled when it grazed the left side of Leah's head and she didn't even flinch, instead retaliating by shooting his left knee and watching him fall to it.

"Run, Emma!" Leah yelled, Emma doing as instructed and running to the nearest SWAT member who guided her into the apartment.

The next bullet slammed into Leah's left shoulder and she fell to the ground… and Daniel felt regret.

Leah's perspective...

I didn't apologize earlier… I didn't even say goodbye to Uncle Hank as I left the house, I was still too angry.

Everything turned distorted as I could barely hear "Hi, Daniel. My name is Connor." and "How do you know my name?!" before hearing cautious but deliberate footsteps… a human negotiator?

"I know a lot of things about you. I've come to get you out of this!"

I blinked and turned my head to the right side, seeing the negotiator wearing a CyberLife blazer before he stopped and crouched down to me.

CyberLife sent an android to decommission another android… as I try to sit up, he turns me onto my back to carefully inspect my arm and looks at Daniel.

"She's losing blood. If we don't get her to a hospital, she's going to die." Connor explained.

"All humans die eventually! What does it matter if that one dies now?!" Daniel responded coldly.

Yeah, what does it matter?

But before I can even respond, I hear "I'm going to apply a tourniquet!" and then a gunshot.

"Don't touch her! Touch her and I'll kill you!" Daniel threatened as I see Connor's LED stay blue.

"You can't kill me! I'm not alive!" Connor explained firmly before I feel something being tied around my wounded arm and see him scan my medical bracelet. "I've radioed for a medivac helicopter, Officer Anderson. The paramedics have been notified to call your father." He responded quietly.

Well he's half right… I'm just hoping Hank won't still be pissed off or on the verge of a heart attack.

"They were going to replace you and you became upset! That's what happened, right?!" Connor spoke after looking at Daniel.

"I thought I was part of the family. I thought I mattered… but I was just their toy, something to throw away when you're done with it!" Daniel explained before he turned the gun towards me and Connor stepped in front of me.

Maybe I'm imagining the protective nature… he's shielding me like Markus does when someone threatens me.

"There's no way out, Daniel. What you've done is too serious. The only question is whether or not you take another innocent life." Connor explained.

"It's not up to you to decide that!" Daniel threatened.

I close my eyes and brace myself for a bullet right through the head… and the only thing I can feel is getting picked up off of the ground.

I open my eyes, seeing Connor looking at me with a stoic look on his face but I can see concern in his eyes as his LED is now yellow.

When we're in the medivac, I look up at Connor as the paramedics are putting a needle in my right hand to set up for an IV line.

"You're gonna be okay, Officer." Connor responded.

"There's no need to be so formal." I replied, mustering up a weak smile.

I look as the doors close, the terrace of the Phillips apartment gradually fading from my view as the pilot flies towards Henry Ford Hospital and the first paramedic is relaying information to the emergency department.

I'm sure that some day, this will just be a memory to tell my future kids about when they're old enough to understand.
