May 17th 2038…

Looking through the online applications submitted from the academy recruits, Fowler was startled to see Leah's name on one of them and he stood up and opened the office door.

"Hank, my office!" Fowler called out, Hank rolling his eyes and standing up from his desk before he walked into the office and closed the door.

"What did I do this time, Jeffrey?" Hank asked.

"It's not that but I think something's wrong with the computer." Fowler explained before he turned the monitor towards Hank... and Hank was taken aback to see Leah's name as one of the applicants.

"What the hell…" Hank started to ask.

"Well she meets all of the qualifications but I didn't even know she underwent police academy training or that her college offered it." Fowler explained, Hank feeling like he needed to sit down.

"No, Jeffrey. My niece is way too young for this." Hank explained.

"Hank, I can't just turn away potential employees. At the very least, she has to be interviewed." Fowler responded.

Hank nodded as he let out an exasperated sigh, the two friends looking at each other.

"Where did the time go? It just feels like it was yesterday that she was 5 years old and learning to hide the pens on Gavin's desk." Hank replied, both laughing a bit at that memory.

"One day we're teaching them to ride a bike and then before we know it, they're driving cars, going to school and applying for jobs. Damn… time really did go by fast." Fowler explained.

"It did… if Leah does get the job, I want her close enough to where I can keep an eye on her." Hank responded, both unaware that the door was partially open.

Gavin quietly closed the door and walked down the carpeted steps before he walked into the hallway and called Leah.

"Hey, Gavin, I'm just packing up my dorm room. Finished my last medical assistant class."

"Well take a break and sit down, Red." Gavin replied.

Noticing the seriousness in his voice, Leah sat down on the empty bed.

"Please tell me that Hank is okay." Leah responded, thinking that someone had shot or stabbed Hank.

"Hank's alright, aside from going to Jimmy's Bar a lot more than he used to. I just… Leah, why didn't you tell me or anyone that you were also going through police academy training?" Gavin replied.

"Because despite everything that happened, I knew you and Hank would be pissed and say no if I told you." Leah explained.

Gavin briefly lowered his phone, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.

'This child is gonna give me a fucking heart attack if I start arguing with her!' Gavin thought before he opened his eyes and put the phone back to his right ear. "You're right about that one… I'll be clocking out soon, I'll be over there to help you get your stuff and then we can go eat. Sounds okay?" He responded.

"Yeah, sounds great. I'm really hoping I get the interview, at least. If I can't, I have a backup plan with the medical assistant certification." Leah replied.

The two hung up and Gavin grabbed what he needed…

Present time, November 6th 2038…

Numb/Encore by Linkin Park and Jay Z played from Leah's phone and it snapped her out of her trance, Leah going into the hallway and Gavin turning concerned.

'Time for Red to start going to therapy again.' Gavin thought.

In the hallway, Leah answered her phone… and promptly turned livid as a nurse said "Hello, Miss Anderson, we've been trying to reach you as you're listed as Leo Manfred's emergency contact-"

"Take me off of your goddamn information as his emergency contact, that abusive prick doesn't deserve any kindness from me!" Leah yelled before she hung up and put her phone on Do Not Disturb… and she felt Gavin's right hand on her left shoulder.

"At a girl." Gavin responded before they hugged.

"I probably scared some interns out of their minds but I don't care at the moment." Leah replied, Gavin lightly rubbing her back before they let go and walked back into the observation room.

The two jumped as they heard hands hit a table and Hank yelling "Say something, goddamn it!" before Hank stood up from the table and left the interrogation room, walking into the observation room.

"We're wastin' our time interrogating a machine, we're gettin' nothing out of it!" Hank responded in frustration as he sat down.

"Could always try roughing it up a little. After all, it's not human." Gavin suggested, Leah looking at him.

"We're not doing that, Gavin. Last thing the DPD needs is a lawsuit from CyberLife." Leah responded, Gavin looking at her.

"Sometimes you gotta bend the rules, Red." Gavin replied.

"Androids don't feel pain. You would only damage it and that wouldn't make it talk." Connor explained.

'This fucking plastic prick!' Gavin thought bitterly.

"Deviants also have a tendency to self-destruct when they're in stressful situations." Connor spoke up again, Gavin moving away from the wall.

"Okay, smartass! What should we do then?!" Gavin snapped, Connor looking away from him and to Leah.

"I could try questioning it, if it's okay with you, Officer." Connor explained.

Taking offense to that, Gavin narrowed his eyes at Connor… and Hank looked at Gavin before he turned to Connor.

"What do we have to lose? Go ahead, suspect's all yours." Hank responded, Connor briefly resting his right hand on Leah's left shoulder before he left and walked into the interrogation room.

Objective: Obtain Confession

Analyzing the photos and deviant, Connor sat down and looked at him.

Stress level: 35%, too low

Opening the folder, Connor showed the photos.

"You recognize him? It's Carlos Ortiz. Stabbed, 28 times. That..." Connor spoke up, pointing to I Am Alive in the picture. "was written on the wall in his blood."

The deviant didn't look at him, Connor glancing at the wounds again.

"You're damaged. Did your owner do that? Did he beat you?" Connor responded.

Stress level: 39%, too low

"If you won't talk, I'm going to have to probe your memory." Connor threatened.

The deviant's LED turned red and his head snapped up.

"No! No, please don't do that!" The deviant begged.

Stress level: 52%, optimal

"What… What are they gonna do to me?" The deviant asked as Connor looked at him. "They're gonna destroy me, aren't they?"

Glancing at Leah, Connor saw her blink once and took that as a response before he turned back to the deviant.

"No… I think they just want to understand. They know your master abused you. It wasn't your fault." Connor responded sympathetically.

"Why did you tell them you found me? Why couldn't you just have left me there?" The deviant questioned.

"They were going to find you anyway, I was just faster. If they'd have found you first, you would have been shot on sight." Connor explained.

"I don't want to die…" The deviant responded with a tremble in his voice.

"Then talk to me." Connor whispered.

Feeling safe, the deviant blinked and diluted thirium tears ran down his face.

"He tortured me every day…" The deviant responded, Connor turning back to him after briefly looking at Hank and Leah.

Hank ^Warm

Leah ^

"I did whatever he told me, but there was always something wrong… Then one day… he took a bat and started hitting me. For the first time, I felt scared… scared he might destroy me, scared I might die…"

After hearing that, Leah brushed her tears away and Gavin walked over to her.

Gavin rested his left hand on her right shoulder, Leah resting her right hand on his and wrapping her fingers around his hand.

"So I... grabbed the knife and I stabbed him in the stomach… I felt better. So I stabbed him again and again….until he collapsed. There was blood everywhere." The deviant confessed.

"When did you start feeling emotion?" Connor questioned.

"Before, he used to beat me and I never said anything… but one day, I realized it wasn't fair! I felt anger… hatred… and then I knew what I had to do." The deviant answered.

Confession Obtained, Objective Completed

Connor stood up and walked to the door, opening it… and Chris, Gavin, Leah and Hank walked into the interrogation room.

"Chris, lock it up." Gavin replied, Chris walking to the deviant and uncuffing the chains.

"Alright, let's go." Chris explained, the deviant moving away.

"Leave me alone! Don't touch me!" The deviant begged, Leah trying to walk to the deviant but Gavin stopping her.

"The fuck are you doing, Chris?! Move it!" Gavin ordered.

"I'm trying but it's not moving!" Chris responded in frustration.

"You shouldn't touch it. It'll self-destruct if it feels threatened." Connor replied.

"Stay out of this, got it?! No fucking android is gonna tell me what to do!" Gavin snapped as he had to pull Leah away from Chris and the deviant again.

"You don't understand! If it self-destructs, we won't get anything out of it!" Connor explained firmly, Gavin glaring at him.

"I told you to shut your fucking mouth!" Gavin yelled before he tightened his grip on Leah.

"Gavin, let go!" Leah replied as Gavin held onto her.

"Nope, you're not getting shot again, Red!" Gavin growled before Connor pulled Chris away from the deviant.

"I can't let you do that! Leave it alone, now!" Connor responded loudly, Gavin turning pissed and grabbing his gun with his right hand as he kept his left arm around Leah's waist.

"I warned you, motherfucker!" Gavin yelled, his gun aimed at Connor.

"That's enough!" Hank responded.

"Mind your own business, Hank!" Gavin growled before Hank grabbed his own gun and aimed it at Gavin.

"I said that's enough! Let my kid go, you're hurting her!" Hank ordered.

Letting go of Leah, Gavin lowered his gun.

"Fuck!" Gavin hissed, putting his gun away and glaring at Hank. "You're not gonna get away with it this time!" He growled before he glared at Connor and stormed out of the room.

Reaching the locker room, Gavin kicked his locker and sat down on the bench.

He brushed his tears away, hating himself for hurting Leah.
