Fear of Changes

"No way, are you serious?" Dustin asked in amazement.

Eddie hovered in the doorway, listening as his dad was on the phone. He smiled lightly as he saw the way that his dad laughed and he knew all too well what was being discussed.

"That's incredible, you mean those, those heroes actually did that?" He queried. "Jeez, I wish I could've seen it."

Eddie smiled as he listened for a bit longer, he knew his dad was calling Jake's dad, they had received the news about Troy. A part of him was kinda guilty that they might have pushed a bit too far, but the reactions of his dads, and Jakes, reassured him that things were in fact alright, that they had done things just right.

'Damn, that was perfect and this is just crazy...I'm just glad we got revenge for our dads and now they're looking so much happier...I wonder how Jake's getting on at his home.' Eddie wondered to himself.

He shrugged and decided he'd find out soon enough, Jake would tell him after all. So seeing that Dustin had hung up and was talking to Lucas about what happened, a big grin on his face. Still smiling at that, Eddie headed to his bedroom and threw himself down onto the bed and letting out a sigh of relief. Things were still crazy, that was true. But he was glad that they had dealt with this and could now focus on the bigger dangers, the personal problems were done for now at least.

At the same time, in his own home, Jake stood in the doorway of the living room as Mike was on the phone to Dustin, hearing the other end of the conversation.

"I know, it's crazy, Hopper just told me." Mike was saying into the phone. "Troy of all people, caught up in Spider-Boy's webs and apparently terrified. Apparently he was dropped off a building and then caught, thrown back up and dropped again before being caught and webbed up."

There was a pause, presumably while Dustin spoke, while Jake smiled at the memory.

Mike spoke again. "Yeah, after all these years...Justice at last, huh?"

Satisfied with what he had overheard, Jake headed back to his room and flopped down on the bed with a relieved sigh.

'Well, that's taken care of, Troy is rotting in jail where he belongs, he paid for what he did to dad...' Jake thought to himself. 'Now we've gotta focus on Venom and whatever crazy stuff he's got going on.'

Still he felt this was a good time to try and relax, to have a moment of relief and hope.

XXXXX

The following day however, Jake was not so relaxed, and it didn't even have anything to do with Venom or any of his superhero duties.

'Dammit, what do I do, it, this...' His mind raced. 'The others have all done it, why can't I?'

He groaned as he thought about that, sitting on his bed, phone in hand as he stared at the screen, Jessica's number highlighted, he wanted to call her, to either invite her over or hang out. He wanted to do so because he had watched all the others with their loves, all so happy, despite the risks that such relationships entailed.

He bit his lip. 'It would...it would be selfish of me to expose Jess to that level of danger...no, that's not it. I can't say that about the others...so why am I-?'

He couldn't deny it, he was afraid, worried about what pursuing a relationship with Jess would entail, especially in regards to his enemies. Not all of them were stupid, there were ones who could easily watch him from afar and figure it out, then that would put a big target on Jess' back and she'd never get to know a single day without being in danger.

'I can't do that to her.'

So it was with sorrow, his mind whirling with the thoughts and fears that consumed him and made him overthink these issues, that he closed his phone and didn't make the call after all.

End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
