Huntik Heroes
Chapter 1
Centuries ago, our group managed to re-seal the greatest evil in all of existence. Lambert had seen to that and secured the future for humanity. In the following centuries things changed throughout the world. The strange awakening of 'super-human' abilities that became known as quirks became the norm. For we seekers however this was a disruption to what we do.
It was already difficult to hide the world that most don't need to know about. Wiping cameras and minds was very time consuming. Now though, there were monsters and destructive animals running around. Many constantly wanting to play with the new tricks they had inexplicably gained.
There was also a glaring problem that came with these quirks, at least to we seekers. It seemed whatever activated or triggered them in youths caused an imbalance in the minds and spirits of people. Due to that fewer and fewer people could awaken the potential of seekers. Currently (the current era of the manga) of the quirkless twenty percent about fifteen percent of them were seekers.
But unlike the dumb beasts with their quirks, preening about and playing or showing off what they can do, they still have enough of their reason to keep to the shadows. It is a rather irritating state to say the least. And this is coming from a seven-year-old boy who has already begun my training to become a seeker.
I actually prefer this way of doing things for the most part. Instead of being little more than a dog catcher for the so-called villains, I'm learning powers more ancient than most civilizations. I've already found and bonded with my first titan. Nothing crazy. Just a little Springer. He may not have much in terms of combat power, but he's probably smarter than most of those who have quirks. That… and he's fluffy and warm to hold.
Anyway, my name is Asahi Lambert. Yeah, I was talking about my ancestor before. Currently in the seeker world, there are a few big names. The main one, though they mostly act in a preservation and re-hiding titans and relics, are my cousins the Casterwills. The most ancient of all seeker families.
A smaller one, and opposed to many of the Huntik ideals, but no less respected is the Zan family. While the Organization isn't trying as hard to take over the world anymore, they still needed leadership. As did the island of Sutos. The Zan family has had a hand in multiple different areas around the world. Mostly controlling parts of the underworld. The one in the middle is my family. We may not have the history of the Casterwills or the influence of the Zan's. What we do have is a history of capable seekers and an eye for the good and the talent in people.
I'm currently living in Mustafa City in Japan right now. As I'm walking, I see another glaring example of all the reasons quirks are wrong. A trio of kids, one lead by an ash-blonde haired boy who had sparks coming from his hands, were ganging up on one kid. On the other hand, there is a scared kid with green hair standing to defend the other. "Why do you have to do this Kaachan? Leave him alone!" "What do you think you can do Deku? You're just a worthless quirkless weakling."
That last part more so makes me perk up, so I decide to intervene. "Better quirkless than a stupid rampaging dog like you. Why don't you run home pup? Think you need to be paper trained." The other two there laugh a bit at this, but the ash-blonde brat just gets mad.
"You think your opinion matters? You're probably quirkless too." I just smirk at that and say, "yeah, but you're so weak it'd be really easy to beat you." And that got the reaction I was expecting. The brat starts bristling up and rushes at me shouting, "I'll kill you!" And this little piece of shit thinks he deserves to be a hero.
I block the wild left he throws at me and place my hand on his chest and quietly say "Touchram." The resulting blast sends him flying into a tree. Cracking it and knocking him unconscious. His two flunkies look back and forth between the two of us. "If you feel like you've got a chance, you're welcome to try." I say with a smirk. They don't though and run off since their alpha got beat. Grabbing the annoying little chihuahua as they ran by.
I walk over to the green haired kid and tell him, "you got the right kind of guts you know that. What's your name? Mine's Asahi Lambert." "Midoriya Izuku. Is Lambert your given name?" I widen my eyes when I realize I introduced myself backwards to most here in Japan. So, with a cough I say, "No it's my family name. They were originally from the Gaelic regions of Europe." Izuku is wide eyed at this and interested by this. But he first turns back to the kid the others were picking on and asks, "Are you ok?" The boy nods and thanks both of us before running off.
(Izuku POV)
Just when I thought I was going to be beat down by Kaachan again, someone else called out and saved us both instead. He looked to be about the same age as me, had blond hair (with what looked like black tips) and green eyes almost the same shade as mine. He wasn't scared when Kaachan rushed him, and then he sent him flying with what looked like a palm strike.
Though it almost looked like there was some kind of energy when he did it. After we checked on the other boy, I was more curious about how Lambert-kun did that. When I first called him that he said, "just call me Asahi. My family name sounds a bit funny with a Japanese accent." It had been the first time since my quirklessness was revealed that someone talked with me in a friendly way.
He suggested that we talk a while, since he also didn't have too many friends in the area. That's when I asked him, "how did you do that blast thing you did to Kaachan? You said you didn't have a quirk." He rolls his eyes and scoffs at that. He just replies by saying, "what is so good about those stupid things in the first place? All they seem to do is make people more of animals than they were before."
"But without a quirk you can't be a hero! Everyone says that only people with quirks can be heroes." When I said that I started to tear up. "My big dream has been to be a hero who can save the people with a smile. But no one thinks I can do it because I don't have a quirk." While I'm crying, he sighs and says, "look sorry. I don't have a good opinion of quirks as a whole because…. Well. I know about a lot of things. Including the fact that being a hero doesn't have to do with powers exactly. People were heroes long before quirks existed."
I look up at him and dry my eyes a bit. He continues with, "the problem is that people were so freaked out when quirks first appeared. And because of how prevalent they are, despite most being absolute garbage, everyone wants to think they are a good thing so they can try to gain some sense of normal." I'm not sure why he uses such big words, but I know he does have a bit of a point.
"I will say this: you have just as much potential to be a hero as anyone. Though…. You might need a little help with it." He pulls out what looks like a necklace from his pocket, the bottom part of it is green striped with three spikes on the top. He takes my hand and gives it to me. Though to what purpose I don't know. But I do see that he has one around his neck. Maybe it has to do with that thing he did to Kaachan? "Keep that on you. Next time you are in trouble, concentrate on it. It might just help you out some." He says with a smile.
Meanwhile my mind is just spinning at what he described what to do. How can a necklace help with making a quirk appear? "I'll see you soon. I get the feeling that will help you before you know it." While I am still confused, I put the necklace in my pocket and head home. At least I don't have any bruises, so mom won't worry more.
(no POV)
Asahi wasn't wrong about it not taking long before Izuku had to use the power of the amulet he was given. Not two days later, Bakugo decided to take out his frustration at getting beat by Asahi on Izuku. Izuku on the other hand was focused on dodging and getting away rather than fighting. When Bakugo thought he had him cornered, someone called out again.
This time it was a girl with pink skin and horns who said, "leave him alone you jerks!" Bakugo who had enough of people getting in his way decided to attack the girl. As he hit her across the face, Izuku's mind was spinning. Until he thought back on what Asahi had said. 'Next time you're in trouble, concentrate on it.' Izuku did that and had only one thought on his mind: 'I have to save her!' With that, a green glow grew around his body. And then his legs moved without thinking. In this case he leaped up and kicked Bakugo so hard he smashed his face into the ground.
Of course, Bakugo who wasn't expecting it gets knocked out again. While his two flunkies are surprised, they gain their bearings and try to attack Izuku. Who surprises them again by back flipping behind them and knocking them down. When they get back up one of them tries to attack him again, Izuku seems to disappear. They both look around trying to find him. Then one seemingly gets struck across the cheek and falls. The other gets kicked in the shins and falls too. That is when Izuku appears out of thin air in front of them.
Just when they are about to get up again, they all hear "I think that is more than enough. Take that little piece of garbage out of here, and don't come back." They turn and see Asahi who has a smirk on his face. The other two grab Bakugo and run, while the pink girl is getting up. "Thanks for the help green guy! So, was that your quirk? Its really cool as is the green glow you had!"
"Uuumm. I don't… I'm… Uhh." Izuku is a bit uncomfortable because of all the questions and he doesn't know how to answer them. Asahi takes this moment to interject, "maybe give him a chance to gather himself before you ask a lot of questions?" The girl then looks and sees how uncomfortable Izuku is and apologizes. "Sorry about that. I was trying to stop them since they were picking on him. Didn't expect that one guy to attack me."
"Yeah. While I may be for real equality between boys and girls, that's more for if its an actual fight. Not some little shit having a temper tantrum. You okay?" Asahi notes her burns but says she'll be okay. Asahi pulls out his handkerchief and lets her use it to clean herself up a bit. She then says thanks again to both, before telling them "my name is Ashido Mina. What are you're names?" Izuku responds like normal but Asashi says, "I'm Asahi Lambert. Lambert is my family name."
Mina ooohs a bit at that but says she has to go. "I know you'll be a great hero Midori!" Once she has gone Izuku asks the big question on his mind to Asahi: "How did I do that? And what was all of those quirks I used?" To which Asahi smiles and says, "there's a hidden world of people who are greater heroes than most of the pro heroes. Plus, we have been protecting and saving the world for over ten thousand years." Izuku is confused and not understanding what Asahi described.
So, Asahi gives a demonstration by taking off the amulet around his neck. He calls, "Come out! Springer!" Then in a flash of blue light a little two tailed fox appears on Asahi's shoulder. Izuku can't believe his eyes and thinks it is a hologram. Until Springer jumps over to Izuku's shoulder and rubs his face. "How?"
Asahi smiles and says "I'll show you later. You should go home and tell your mom you are going to a new friend's house. Can you give me your address? My dad and I'll come tomorrow to meet your mom. That way she won't worry." Izuku isn't sure what to think but he knows what Asahi is offering him may be a chance to be a hero. But aside from that he had a new friend in Asahi. So he shook his hand and nodded. A new seeker is born.
