Huntik Heroes
Chapter 5
For those wondering, Melisa will not be attending UA. Not in the same way as Izuku anyway. She instead will be something like an advisor to the support course but will also join in on a few hero course assignments. But enough of the small talk. Its time for the UA entrance exams. So, on with the show.
(No POV)
With the start of a new year for students came the entrance exams for high schools. And none more prominent than the UA entrance exam. And this was the biggest day for Midoriya Izuku. He had prepared for months with his best friend and partner in seeker work, Asahi Lambert. Who was in fact standing next to him as Izuku was admiring the UA building itself.
"Move your ass you worthless Deku!" And of course, the biggest fool in existence, Bakugo Katsuki was trying to push him around. "Lots of room here man. Just go around." Asahi said. Katsuki was about to launch at him, until he saw it was the same kid who had blasted him away like he was nothing. Asahi narrowed his eyes at Katsuki just daring him to try something. Katsuki just walked away with a huff, muttering about it being a waste of his time or other nonsense.
"Thanks Asahi but you didn't have to do that. I can deal with Katsuki." Izuku said with an unsettled look on his face. To that Asahi nodded and just said, "I know man, but I still wanted to help." With that said both gave each other a smile and walked up to the building for their exam. Izuku had to sit next to Katsuki given they were both from the same middle school, but he wouldn't make a big deal about it for now. The written exam was little issue for any of the three of them.
But the real test would come from the practical exam. As Present Mic explains: "There are three types of robots that are worth a set of points. They range from one to three and who ever destroys them will be awarded points by our judges based on their actions." "A question if I may?! There were clearly four robots listed on the hand outs for exam. Such an error would be the height of embarrassment for a top-tier academy of UA's caliber." A taller blue haired boy with glasses says before starting into some long spiel.
So, Asahi decides to shut him up and knock him down a peg. "Hey dumbass! You don't need him to hold your hand and explain every little detail right away. Or do you think the practical is just some fill in the blank set of answers just like the written exam. If you can't think that far out of the box, then you should leave." While the tall boy is about to retort, Present Mic comes in to diffuse the situation.
"All right that is enough both of you. Though one of you did make a point that this isn't that simple. The final robot is an obstacle of sorts. It is worth zero points so there is little value in bringing it down." With that said, the tall boy sits down with an angry look to the one who called him an idiot.
Izuku on the other hand just thinks, 'Asahi didn't need to go that far. But I'm guessing he may have thought of something that the other guy didn't.' With all of that done each examinee is given a card with the number of the battle ground they are assigned to. Izuku is at site two while Katsuki is at site one. While Katsuki is bragging up that is how it should be, Izuku realizes that the real point is just to avoid classmates working together.
"Well, he won't be making it into the hero course." Asahi says as he walks up to Izuku. To which Izuku responds with a puzzled look, "Why not?" Asahi just holds up his card and it has site one on it as well. Izuku is wide eyed at the fact that Asahi may try to sabotage Katsuki. "Don't worry. I'm not gonna try to make him lose. He can do that just fine on his own." Asahi reassures Izuku before heading to his bus.
(Izuku POV)
'I can't worry too much about what Asahi may or may not do. Just like on our missions, we each have our own role to play and job to do. And mine is to pass my test as site two.' Izuku thinks before nodding to himself. I get on my bus and put together a plan while on the way. 'We aren't trying to hide what we can do today. So I'm gonna bring out every titan I can and use all of my spells. I'll keep the biggest guns in reserve. I think I've already put together the puzzle of this whole exam any way.'
Once we are at the battlefield, I see some of the other examinees getting ready. When I'm taking out my amulets the glasses guy tries to make a big deal about them. "What is the point to silly trinkets like those? This is a serious exam. You need to use your quirk to its fullest here."
Now I understand why Asahi was so quick to get in this guy's face. He's really rude and obnoxious. "I don't have a quirk but I have capabilities that go beyond something as simple or weak as that." I say and a few of the other around are laughing at the idea that anything could be better than a quirk. To which I smile and call out my titans. "Lets go! Caliban! Helinx! Icarus! Jirwolf! Ironsquire! Raijin the Thunderbolt!" With saying all of that each of my titans appears.
Helinx prefers to sit itself on my shoulders, while Icarus, Raijin and Jirwolf float above everyone's heads. Of course, everyone is dumbfounded at this whole situation. None of them probably thought anything like this is possible. They are all so confused they don't even notice Present Mic say go as the doors to the fake city open. "Nimblefire!" I call out and rush into the town alongside my titans.
Mic apparently had to tell everyone else to snap out of it. But it matters little, me and my titans have already started attacking any robot in sight. I'm hitting the bots with everything from Boltflare to Raypulse. I've even tripped up a few with Augerfrost and Stopglue.
I also have given certain titans a heads up about helping if necessary. Most like Caliban are of course fighting any robot in sight, but a few have suggestions to help examinees who get themselves in trouble. This is primarily focused on Ironsquire and Icarus as they have more defensive and utility capabilities. I've even saved a blonde kid who was firing a laser out of his stomach.
When a bot was about to attack him from behind, I shouted, "Watch out! Nimblefire!" When I had got close to him, I cast Honorguard and protected him in the bubble. "Merci mon ami. Now let me return the favor and deal with this." He said as he blasted the robot. Once that was done, I just said back in French, "aucun problème. Je voulais juste t'aider." He was stunned, but neither of us had the time to question more.
Yes. I've learned a few other languages over my time as a seeker. When you go on missions to places like Pas de Calais or Troy you figure out how to adapt. For now though I have other things to worry about. Like the giant freaking monster robot that is coming at all of us! They've gotta be crazy using that thing for a test. I'm about to everyone else's lead on running, until I hear "Ow. My leg." I hear a girl say.
She is trapped under the rubble and the zero-pointer is barreling towards her. I don't know what I'm going to do, but…. Someone has to help her. I rush to her side with Nimblefire and stop the robots first blow with Honorguard. "I know I can't hold back against this thing. Show your might! Jeweled Colossus!" At that a my large (the site may say it is only 3 foot tall, but that just doesn't seem right for the title of colossus) jeweled litho titan emerges and stops the zero pointer. It even slices off one the robot's arms.
While that is happening, I get the rubble off of the girl's leg and pick her up. We get away as Colossus stabs the robot in the chest finishing it. Everyone has met up and are terrified to see my large titan walking behind me. "Don't worry he's a friend. But it is difficult to maintain him for much longer so. Colossus return." At that the titan bows and returns to his amulet. A few of the others are asking where I got the tech that makes my titans, but I ignore them. "Hold still I can help you. Everheal." I say to the girl and start healing her injured leg.
This apparently shocks a few people, as well as Recovery Girl who has just walked up to help the other examinees. "That is an impressive quirk you have sonny. Perhaps I could ask for your help if you don't make it into the hero course." She says. But then a few others pipe up with their own questions. The French boy asks, "But what was that shield that you used to help me then?!" and the glasses boy asks, "And how is it you can run as fast as I can with that strange aura around you?!" and a few others question the various blasts and beams I used to fight the robots with.
At this Recovery Girl is more confused than ever. "Do you have more than one quirk sonny?" "I don't have something as stupid as a quirk. Nor as dehumanizing. My powers are much more ancient." Even I can't believe a little of what I am saying. I used to wish I had a quirk with all my might. But after so long learning about the hidden world that has been keeping people safe for millennia, I realize that their interpretation of a hero is much more foolish than I knew. With my healing done, and everyone around me dumbfounded, I walk out of the battlefield with a smile. They may not like it or even understand how I did what I did, but I showed what a hero can truly be.
(Asahi POV)
A least I don't have to deal with that obnoxious guy with glasses right now. Dude needs to take the stick out of his ass. Though I now have to deal with a rabid little chihuahua instead. Yeah, I'm in the same group as that piece of work Bakugo. But whatever. He won't be able to keep up and he won't worry about anyone else. For now, I have to unleash my titans and get ready for the test. "Here we go! Asura! Springer! Ignatius! Grand Façade! Land Shark! Solwing!"
When I summon all of my titans, I can hear each of the other applicants asking how that is fair, or how the heck I am creating or summoning them. But the main one I can hear grinding in the background is Bakugo. He probably thought this might be easy with what he can do. But I'll make sure he won't have a simple time. With the doors opening, my titans and I rush in to engage whatever comes our way.
I use Solwing to scout the area and relay targets back to all of us. Springer is carried along by Solwing, who drops him on a few of the robots. Springer in turn either disables the robots circuitry or presses the button to deactivate them. 'I guess it makes sense that they would include an easy off switch. Not everyone may have abilities that give them an offensive leg up in this situation.'
I think to myself. Meanwhile, Asura is enjoying the capability to rampage through all the robots. It doesn't take long before I feel a rumbling throughout the battlefield. I check in with Solwing and there is a huge robot rampaging toward us. "Guess that is the zero-pointer. Definitely overkill but I think I can guess what they are doing." My theory and suspicions may be confirmed later.
For now, there are some who need help. In front of the robot is a girl with silver hair and a guy with unusual elbows running from the robot. A girl with long earlobes is helping a kid who looks like he has a speech bubble for a head who looks like he hurt his leg. "Okay I've got to wonder how some people think some of these changes are good things. Hyperstride!"
I leap up to the top of a building and get a better view. The one with the speech bubble seems to be trying to make walls to stop the robot, but it isn't working. "No point holding back! Hyperstride! Repel the enemy! Terros!" With that, from my gold and greed amulet awakens the bronze giant Terros. It is a large metal titan that, while unarmed, strikes with enough force to shatter the zero-pointer.
Unfortunately. some of that is still falling towards the others. "Stay behind me. Willwall!" With that shout, I create a green wall upward that stops all of the falling debris. "Terros. You mind getting some of this junk off?" At that, the bronze behemoth does and I can release the spell. Though the spell does take a bit out of me.
"That was crazy man! What the heck is that thing and where did it come from?" The one with the odd elbows asks me. The others in the area ask the same and I just hold up Terros's amulet. "Terros return." At that Terros nods and returns to the amulet. The others are dumbfounded by what they just saw. Or I'm guessing the one with the speech bubble head is the same.
The girl with the long earlobes snaps out of it first and says, "Well however you did it, thanks man. What the heck is your quirk anyway?" "Don't have something that useless." I say bluntly. Of course, they are all dumbstruck and confused again. "Hold him still a second. I'll fix him up. Everheal." I say and heal the bubble headed kid's leg. "How is it possible to work the miracles and makings that you do? Are you of a world beyond what we see?"
Okay that was the weirdest way to describe what I can do. But I wouldn't say she is entirely wrong. "You're not too far off. The creatures I summon including, ah there are two. Solwing. Springer. Come here. Are not from this world. They are from a different one. And don't ask if you can try. None of you have the capability to even work the simplest of powers." While a few seem to take offense to that, the gray-haired girl seems very intrigued.
She's getting a little close actually. She's also asking a bunch of odd questions about what I can do. That is when we all hear someone (probably a responder for after the test) call out to ask if we need help. We all respond that we are okay, and they tell us to head out and wait for the results. Most of the others walk off but the gray-haired girl introduces herself.
"I'm Yanagi Reiko. The mystique and might you wield is incredible. Could you tell me more?" I'm a little surprised by this but she does seem pretty nice. Better than most with quirks. "I guess I could tell you a few things while we walk out. My name is Asahi Lambert. And I'm introducing myself the western way." I say and she seems more intrigued and a bit exited. It's kinda cute actually. On the way back I recall some of my other titans while telling her a few choice things, but I keep Springer out and he eventually jumps onto her shoulder. She seems surprised but also seems to really like him, petting Springer while saying that he is adorable. At least I think that is what she is saying.
"You're quite expansive in your vocabulary." I say. At that she blushes and looks down. "Sorry. I didn't mean anything bad by it. It's not too different from some of my family. A few cousins have a large vocabulary and talk pretty formally. And now I'm kinda rambling because I don't know where to go next with this." It's then that I hear her snort a bit before laughing at my reaction.
When we have reached the entrance, she says goodbye and "I hope your aspirations as a hero are met with ratification." I smile at that and say, "As I hope yours are as well." With that I recall Springer and head out. I don't know about anything else with UA, but I do know two things. One, Bakugo won't be making it into the hero course. And two…. There's a pretty interesting girl that I might have to compete against.
Yeah this will be another fanfic where Bakugo won't be in the UA hero course. I'm actually thinking on him not being at UA at all. I'm thinking on having him go to Shiketsu instead. Unlike in the usual story line where he got a fire lite under him due to the Slime villain, that didn't happen and he wouldn't have put out the same or pushed himself. He would have thought he could just breeze through thanks to his quirk, given the egotism of almost everyone with a quirk at his school. You'll also see why he failed more in the next chapter.
