Angel stood proudly before the Paladin with a cocky smile on his face.
"This is my blessed student. I hope you do not mind him being here. He has not had a chance to interact with other exorcists in the field yet."
Rin kept his face forward. Behind the mask and under the hood he convinced Angel would be be a good idea, he wouldn't be suspect for being well... himself. It was hard to keep quiet though. Yukio looked downright exhausted. He tried to look professional, but unlike their dad, he was kind of failing at it. He wanted to pull his little brother into a comforting hug. But he would not blow his cover. Sandalphon narrowed his eyes at Rin and Metatron, as well as Raphael who stood aloofly next to Shura.
"Not at all. I'm sure the students wouldn't mind meeting your student," Shiro responded calmly and diplomatically. Rin wasn't sure he cared for such a calm and cool response from his old man. Yukio, Why don't you take-"
"Magdeline," Rin interrupted Angel, his voice decidely airy and lighter than his usual tone, "They can call me Magdeline."
"Surely you can't mean-"
"Ah, let him have it!" Shura interrupted Angel, "You found him, but you don't know what he was like before," Shura finished.
Rin glared at Shura as well as internally thanked her. He didn't want his name known, not like this. He figured using the moniker of Saint Mary Magdeline would be appropriate. The woman written about, having to undergo seven exorcisms and being a devout follower while Rin was a half demon and devoted follower, he kind of felt an understanding. Not that any one other than the Angels and Shura would know the exact reason behind the choice in name.
"Well Magdeline, you are certainly welcome to join us."
Rin dipped his head in a respectful bow. He was certain this would solidify that he was not who he was. Sandalphon snorted at Rin's actions, knowing all too well what a disrespectful hellion he could be when pushed. That and he had heard about the nude incident. He looked at Yukio, half wishing that he was clairvoyant like Rin was so the hiding wouldn't be needed for him. Also, he missed having a person respond when he spoke. Rin was rather enjoyable to talk with.
"We will be testing the students in an overnight trip in the forest. You can either "participate" or assist in proctoring," Yukio explained, looking professional as he addressed his disguised brother. Rin tilted his head curiously. Proctoring would mean being close to his brother, but really unable to tell him, on the other hand, his "tamer" was a part of the class if Samael was any indication.
"I would not mind proctoring," he said aloud, making sure to keep his voice light and airy. It was hopefully androgenous sounding and nothing like how he normally talked. Even if it did make him sound pretentious. "It would be an honor."
"Very well."
Rin flinched at the sporadic arrival of Samael. He was hardly alone as Yukio jumped a little at the demon's close proximity. Metatron's wings fluffed in an agitated manner seeing Samael. Sandalphon just sighed at the arrival, clearly far too used to the shenanigans. But most notably was the waves of seething hatred that seemed to roll off of Raphael. Rin was almost amused seeing the hatred being focused on someone else. An even more intense hatred at that.
"Everyone, this is Magdeline, they will be helping Shura and I with the overnight outing," Yukio explained to his students. Rin's gaze, hidden by the mask, fell to his tamer. He seemed just as meek as when he had met him, freshly summoned. He couldn't help but wonder how he was drawn into the exorcist life. Others seemed more abrasive or rather calm with the ideas of demons. He seemed rather skittish. Well, not as much as the girl by Ariel but she seemed more confused than nervous. Ariel huffed, easily recognizing Rin behind the mask.
Was it originally hers? If it was he was going to hurt Haniel.
"Hello everyone. I am a second lower class exorcist." What else was he supposed to say? "I enjoy long walks on the beach and sukiyaki."
The class stared at him in bewilderment. Rin heard Metaton snort at his little introduction.
"Was it something I said? Or is your class always this quiet?" Rin couldn't help but ask. Yukio quietly sighed and took over the introduction.
"Magdeline was requested to be here from the Vatican and will be considered an outside proctor tonight. Please treat them with respect."
The pink haired boy sported a wolfish grin and approached with confidence. He swiftly grabbed Rin's hand as a "gentleman" would.
"So is the lady more beautiful than her mask?" he asked. Rin froze, Metaton laughed. Sandalphon snorted though, he was more polite about it.
"Shima!" the tallest student called out. His face set in what seemed to be perpetually angry. "Stop letching on the teacher's assistant!"
"I am not his assistant," Rin chuckled looking at the group. "I am simply a wildcard. I'm sure you are familiar with Mary Magdeline? At least, those of you wishing to be Arias?"
The angry faced boy was the one who answered.
"She was a follower of Jesus who had been exorcized seven times."
"Exactly. Afterall, who would trust a person who needed to be exorcized seven times?"
The class was silent at the implications the indivdual had thrown out into the room. Even Yukio raised a brow. Rin took quick steps and pulled out his blade. Before the twin tailed girl could react, his blade was up to her throat.
"Despite any lineage, training, or faults, trust your mind and your gut, as to who you can trust. You may be surprised who is trustwrothy, and who is an enemy."
He lowered his blade and resheathed it, a somber smile on his face.
"But don't over worry. This Moley Megane will protect you guys?" he chuckled. Yukio looked over at the masked Rin curiously. Rin realized a bit too late that he had made a "Rin" comment. Thankfully Shura's reaction proved to be a distraction as she laughed rancously and loudly.
"Oh my god! He is!" she roared with laughter. Yukio shifted his gaze to Shura and narrowed his eyes into a glare. Rin mentally prepared himself to throw off Yukio's suspicion on himself.
"Was what I said wrong? I thought studious and smart glasses wearing individuals were Meganes. Was I wrong?" He added a little head tilt to try and sell the "innocent" act.
"Your little child is a terror," Ariel huffed, her face slightly hidden to hide her amusement. Metatron nodded.
"Aren't all children?"
Raphael remained stony and silent, his eyes shifting slowly between Shura and Rin. His displeasure radiating off him in waves seeing the clarvoyant son of Satan interacting with hopeful exorcists.
Away from the Vatican, he could only hope the angelic presence would keep any truly dangerous demon at bay.
Oh... another chapter.
As for Magdeline... I went to Saint Mary Magedeline school when I was in Kindergarten. I had the sweetest teacher ever. My sister went to school there too. And she had a teacher from hell. Mean as could be, she would kick my sister out of class to go to the "reading van" because she "clearly" needed help. The people in the reading van would keep telling my sister she did not belong in there because she was way above the reading level. Little second grader sister was publicly embarrassed in class routinely by this woman.
Magdeline had seven exorcists and Kelsey swore she met a woman from hell at a school of the same name. It felt like the name was the right choice.
