A quick change of the setup had the rooftop going from a wedding venue to a party venue. The DJ booth was brought out, the caterers sat up the food tables, and a bar suddenly appeared.
Asta walked up to Tony. "Whoa, Dad. Quick change much?"
"I'm a little known for it. So, how's it feel to be Mrs. Laufeyson?"
"Well, last names work a little different on Asgard, so I'm not technically Mrs. Laufeyson. Though, I suppose here on Earth I am. In records at home, I'll still be Gostadottir. But… maybe, here… I'll be Laufeyson, but my maiden name could be Stark?"
"Not Tonydottir?" he replied with a grin.
"Hey, he's getting it!" Asta laughed.
"I feel like I've all but adopted you." He scratched his cheek then snapped his fingers. "You know, maybe I should."
Her eyes snapped up that at that. "I beg your pardon?"
Tony put a hand on her shoulder. "I've actually been considering this. Would you like to have a Midgardian family? I know you're a grown woman and married and hundreds of years old and all that. But, would you want to be a real part of this family?"
"Are you serious?"
"Not usually, but this time I am."
Asta gave him a huge hug. "Yes! I would like that very much!"
"Luckily, since we had your past… tweaked for college, you are technically a citizen. I had Pepper draw up the adoption papers last night, so we can sign them whenever you want."
Loki came over to see what all the fuss was about. "Is everything ok, my bride?"
She wiped away some stray tears. "Yes. Of course. Tony just asked to adopt me, and I said yes."
Tony winked. "Sorry, Rock of Ages, I didn't mean to steal your girl away."
Loki smiled. "Anything that makes her happy, pleases me. So… I suppose that makes us in-laws now."
"You know, I didn't really think this through," Tony said with a light tone. "Maybe that won't work out after all."
Asta scrunched her eyebrows. "Hush! You're stuck with me now! Both of you!"
Loki put his arm around her waist. "No one is ever 'stuck with' you, my love. Your presence is a joy for anyone near you."
Tony smiled. "Yeah, what he said. Now, I'm going to go get your entrance and first dance prepared." He kissed her forehead and walked off.
"Entrance?" Loki questioned. "We're already here."
"Yes, well, he likes a good moment and apparently it's usually a tradition for wedding receptions."
Loki shrugged. "Who am I to tell the great Tony Stark 'no' to a party feature?"
Tony's voice suddenly boomed over the speakers. "And now, ladies and gentlemen! May I present to you the new Mr. and Mrs. Laufeyson!" He shrugged. "Or whatever it is they're going by now…"
Christina Perri's "Thousand Years" started to play and Asta began to tear up a bit.
Loki led her to the dance floor and instantly pulled her close. "My dove, what's wrong?"
Asta sniffed but smiled. "Tony… Dad. He's got a way with these things. Just listen to the lyrics as you dance with me."
"As my lady wishes." He pulled her into a waltz hold and carefully led her around.
(A/N: listen to the song while reading this. Picture Thomas and Edith from Crimson Peak dancing)
Asta couldn't even speak as she looked up into his eyes. The love she saw, the feeling of his hand on her back, the lyrics playing, there was nothing to say. Only the need to feel it all.
Loki looked into her eyes as well. He didn't want to break the spell that seemed to be over them, so he just smiled and pulled her closer. As he listened to the lyrics, he could tell that, yes, Stark did have a way with these kinds of things. He'd have to thank him later.
Asta rested her head on Loki's chest and he put his chin on top of her head. And they danced like that for the rest of the song, content to just feel the other breathing.
When the song ended, Loki kissed her softly. "Jeg elsker deg, min kjære." (I love you, my precious one)
"Jeg elsker deg, min elskede." (I love you, my beloved)
Tony called other couples to the dance floor as "At the Beginning" by Donna Lewis and Richard Marx began to play.
Loki put his hand under Asta's chin so she would look at him. "My precious wife. I cannot believe I have the good fortune to finally call you that. Have I told you how beautiful you look?"
"Once or twice maybe," she whispered.
"It's not enough. And I don't think in all these years we've danced together enough. Let us rectify that in the years to come."
Finally finding her voice, Asta replied, "We've danced together at plenty of balls and ceremonies on Asgard."
"We were children then. And not a couple. This feels different, does it not?"
"Yes, I suppose it does."
"Then let's dance together as often as we can. In the kitchen, outside, in our bedroom… pet."
Asta shivered a bit at his tone. "I asked you to save that for private occasions and, my mischief, you already have not disappointed."
He smirked. "And I promise to not disappoint later, either."
"Careful, you'll have me swooning here on the dance floor."
"Well, we can't have that. The Avengers and all these guests would have my hide if you weren't around to finish the celebration. Besides, I understand there is a huge cake to be cut and I know how you live for your confections." He winked at her.
"How did I almost forget about the cake?"
Loki laughed. "Goddess of Healing and Princess of Sweets!"
Asta giggled and Loki decided he'd never tire of that sound. "And my love, you look every bit a princess today. Jewels suit you well."
"Yes, well, my new family apparently saw fit to send gifts. Did you and Frigga conspire this look?"
"Did I conspire? For once, no. Did Mother? Quite possibly. I merely asked if there was a pearl tiara available since I understand that Midgardians wear pearls on their wedding day. I was given this with her blessing. I had completely forgotten she had a necklace and earrings that seemed to match it. And I had no idea that she'd be sending the set along with Thor. But the fact that they are also golden with emeralds makes me think that she certainly had this planned out."
"Perhaps your mother is where you learned your mischief from?"
"I've often thought that. For as serious as she can appear, there is definitely a mischievous side to her. Regardless, I'm glad she sent it. It looks absolutely perfect."
"I'm glad she approves of me."
"Approves? My love, she probably likes you even more than she likes me! She's adored you for years! No one in all the realms would have made her happier to be a daughter-in-law."
"Well, that's good to know. But the gifts were too much."
"Asta, you are a princess now. You were born to wear these!"
"You flatter me too much."
"On the contrary, I don't think I do enough. You look as beautiful as a sunrise. Those jewels only enhance what was already there. And this gown! How did you find something so perfect in such a short amount of time?"
"The girls and I went shopping the day after you proposed. They practically shoved me out the door! And Tony has a litany of tailors that were all too happy to 'Loki it up' as Natasha called it."
"Do you want to wear it to our Asgardian wedding as well?"
"I could. It doesn't look very traditional for home, though."
Loki wiggled his fingers and let green sparks fly. "My darling, I can definitely fix that. I have an idea in my head already."
"I love the idea of you being a part of that!"
The song ended then and the couple sat to eat. There was general merriment all around as they all ate and talked.
More dancing followed the meal. Ned was the designated DJ and had a playlist of Tony approved songs. The list included: The Police's "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic", "Abracadabra" by the Steve Miller Band, "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry, and Pilot's "Magic."
Each song caused Loki's eyes to roll harder and harder.
"I'm going to wring Peter's friend's neck," he said into Asta's ear.
"Oh hush, I think it's funny!" she said as she sang along to Dark Horse.
After the song ended, Asta went to talk to the guests from Wakanda and Loki was talking to Clint. Morgan walked up to him and tugged on his tux jacket tails.
"Loki, will you dance with me?" she asked sweetly.
He turned to Clint. "Apologies, my friend."
Clint laughed. "Hey, when a pretty girl asks you to dance, you don't say no!"
"Exactly." He offered his hand to Morgan and she happily took it. They walked to the dance floor. "Now, would the lady like to be carried, or prefer to dance on my feet?"
Morgan theatrically put her finger to her chin. "Can't it be both?
"Ah, spoken like a true Stark. Always ask for the best of both worlds. Very well then. Hop on, nugget!"
Morgan happily and carefully stepped onto Loki's feet and allowed him to waltz around dramatically. Then, without warning, he scooped her up and held her in as much as a waltz frame as he could. Morgan giggled as they spun.
"I'm really glad you married Asta," she told him.
"Oh really?"
"Yep. She missed you a lot when you weren't around. And you're a really fun big brother too!"
"Well, I've never had a little sister. I'm unfortunately the youngest of my siblings as well. But, I'm very happy to have one now and I'm very happy she's you."
Morgan giggled again as Loki dipped her gently as the song ended. They looked up as the guests were applauding their dance.
"It appears we had an audience, Lady Morgan," Loki said before placing a kiss to her cheek and setting her down gently.
Morgan merely shrugged. "Thanks for dancing with me!" She kissed his cheek in return and ran off.
Loki looked over and saw Tony gesturing for him. He went over, slightly unsure as to what he'd hear.
"Yes, Tony?" he asked apprehensively.
"Just don't make me a grandfather yet, ok?"
Loki paled a bit.
Tony laughed. "Calm down, Alice Cooper, I'm teasing you. I mean, yeah, don't make me a grandfather yet, but you're really great with Morgan. She's a tough kid to impress and you managed it in less than a month. I think you definitely impressed your bride too."
Stark pointed to where Asta was looking at them, laughing with Nakia and Okoye. He clapped Loki on the shoulder. "You're gonna make her very happy, Laufeyson. I couldn't think of a better man for the job."
Loki was a bit surprised that Tony called him by his actual name (even if it was his surname) and not some hideous nickname.
"Thank you, Tony. Making her happy is my first priority."
"I suspect it has been for quite some time. Now, go get her, Prince Charming. I think we need to get little Cinderella to bed soon, so be sure the both of you tell her good night, or you'll lose all those brownie points you just gained."
"Yes, we definitely shall. And thank you again, Tony."
"Thank you… Reindeer Games."
Tony grinned and winked as Loki rolled his eyes and walked away.
Loki sat at the head table, grateful for the break in talking… until Thor took the seat next to him. "Are you happy, brother?"
"I think you know the answer to that," Loki answered, trying not to be annoyed at Thor. "I am deliriously joyful!"
"Nothing else you could want in this world?"
Loki smiled as he looked at Asta talking to Darcy and Katy across the dance floor. "Or any other world for that matter."
Thor noticed where Loki was looking and smiled. "Right then. Would you mind holding this for me for a moment?"
Loki didn't notice what Thor was handing to him. "Yes, of course," he said as he reached out blindly.
"I knew it!" Thor bellowed.
"What?" Loki said, somewhat irritated at being startled. Then he saw what was in his hand: the handle of Mjolnir.
"Thor?" Loki whispered, tilting his head with confusion.
"You no longer have conquest or revenge or anger as your main focus. Now it is love and helping others," Thor explained. "You are worthy. As I always knew you were."
At hearing all the commotion, Asta hurried over. "What is happening over here?"
Loki silently held the hammer higher, still in shock.
"Loki! I always knew it!" Asta replied happily.
"See?" Thor said, beaming. "Everyone knew it but you. You are worthy, brother. Worthy of everything good you seemed to think you needed to deny yourself."
Loki gently set Mjolnir on the table, noting how strange it looked amongst the wedding décor.
Thor nudged his brother's shoulder. "We'll talk about it more later."
"Yes, I think we should," Loki replied. He looked up to Asta. "Dance with me, my light? I feel I might need you to steady me for a bit."
Asta smiled. "Anything you need, my prince." She led him to the dance floor and held him close. "So… that just happened."
"Yes. My brother has a way of making things more dramatic than necessary."
"Well, there's that. But his brother has a way of downplaying things more than necessary."
He rolled his eyes. "I haven't a clue what you're talking about."
"Mmm-hmm. If you say so. Do you want to talk about it?"
"I don't know what there is to say. It's… humbling to know that Mjolnir deems me worthy now."
"You aren't the same man you were 5 years ago, or a year ago, or even a month ago. You've made so many changes, Loki. Some of them weren't even needed, but you did everything you could to improve. You are worthy now. Though, I suspect you were even when you weren't sure."
"I wish I had your confidence, my love. But for now, I shall just find joy in knowing that I have been found worthy in your eyes. Mjolnir is just… gravy."
Asta smiled. She knew it was time to take the focus off what just happened. "So, you're planning on changing my dress for Asgard. Do you know what you'll be wearing?"
"Missing the horns, eh?"
"How did you know?"
"I used to revel in seeing how you'd look at me when I wore them. So, yes, I absolutely plan on wearing my horned helmet for our wedding. I'm not sure what else is required of me. I would assume something in leather armoring."
"And a cape?" Asta asked as she looked up through her lashes.
"You really enjoyed all the pageantry, didn't you?"
"It wasn't so much the pageantry itself, just how the pageantry looked on you."
Loki chuckled, his ego sufficiently stroked. "My love, had I only known back then, I would have worn my formal attire all the time."
"But then it wouldn't have been special. And probably constantly uncomfortable too. No, I appreciated how it all came together. But I must say, a Midgardian tuxedo also fits you well," she added, adjusting his bow tie.
"You flatter me."
Asta shrugged. "You earn it. Especially on your wedding day."
"You know," he began. "I believe an 'I told you so' is in order. I recall a time – several times, in fact – that I told you this would happen."
"That I would say I love to see you in formal attire?"
"Very funny, my darling. You know what I'm talking about."
"Hmmm… can't say I do."
He stroked her temple gently with one finger. "Do I need to find the memory and show you? Actually, there should be a few of them. There were at least 3 or 4 occasions that I told you I would marry you one day."
Asta huffed. "Ok, fine. No mind reading necessary. I know exactly what you're talking about. We did get married. You were right."
"Ah, I do love those words."
She sighed. "I always wanted you to be right about this one. Even all those years ago. But I didn't want to get my hopes up."
"I know. But here we are, finally wed, and that's all that matters. Well, that and the fact that I was right," he added with a wink.
"Why did I marry you?" she teased.
"My charming personality comes to mind."
"Of course it does. Shut up and kiss me."
"Yes, dear."
Finally it was time for the cake cutting, followed by the garter and bouquet tosses (which Jane and Thor caught). The party went on well into the night before it was finally time to leave. Loki and Asta said thank you and goodbye to everyone before he scooped her up and teleported them to a house.
"Loki, are you finally going to tell me where we're spending this week?" Asta asked as she looked around.
"Well, I may have made a purchase without telling you," he admitted as he gently put her down.
"And that was?"
"This house in which we stand."
"I beg your pardon?"
"I purchased this house. It's a few miles out of the city and there is no one around for quite a bit. I know you love living in the tower with the others, and I'm not suggesting we move out. But if there's ever a time where we need some alone time, this might be an option then."
She placed her hand on his cheek. "You really do think of everything."
"Well, I try."
"Show me around?"
"Of course, my bride."
Asta was blown away by the size of the house. The huge kitchen, dining area, living room, and library on the first floor were enough, but the 6 bedrooms on the second floor was something to behold as well.
"Loki! You said you bought a house, not a castle!" Asta said as they made their way to the master bedroom.
"Well, a prince and his princess deserve a castle, yes?"
"I suppose."
He stood behind her and kissed her neck. "But we can explore again tomorrow. Right now, I think we have more pressing issues. Don't you agree?"
"Hmmm. I can be convinced."
They spent a week in the new house as their honeymoon. They decorated and made plans for future decorating. And celebrated like newlyweds, christening each of the rooms. Before they knew it, it was time to go to Asgard for their second ceremony.
