The words she was hearing were only coming in snippets.
"…isn't… rking… Wanda… ideas?"
"… will! ….takes time…"
"… eer Games… you sure…it right?"
"…dy hell, Tony! …rything I could!"
Asta groaned a bit as she sifted through all the voices around her. A hand grasped hers.
"My love!" Loki said softly. "How are you feeling?"
She blinked several times and tried to focus on Loki's face. "I don't know," she rasped.
Loki shifted and brought a straw to her mouth. "Take little sips, darling. There. Good girl."
Asta felt herself blush at being called that, but tried to ignore it. The water in the glass was helping the fire in her throat and was much appreciated.
The straw was taken away and her eyes focused a little better. "Loki?" she whispered.
His thumb stroked her hand. "I'm right here, darling. I've been here the whole time. Are you remembering anything?"
Her eyes attempted to take in the room. Things were starting to come into focus more. Then she saw the redhead at the foot of her bed. "Wanda?"
"Hey, girl! Wait… how do you know who I am? Amnesia Asta never met me."
Asta's smile grew large. "Because I know you, silly witch!"
"Aahhh!" Wanda screamed with happiness. "She's back!"
Asta heard both Loki and Tony gasp.
Tony stepped over then and sat on the other side of her. "Sweetie? You all there?"
"KO, Derf," Asta said with a wink.
"She's quoting 'Short Circuit 2'! She's back!" He hugged her tightly. "That's my girl."
Asta yawned deeply then. "Sorry about that, everyone."
Loki pressed a kiss to the side of her head. "No apologies necessary. Sleepy, love?"
"Yeah, seems like that took a lot out of me."
Tony patted her knee. "Ok, I'll go tell Mom and Morgan that you're feeling better. You get some sleep and then…"
"Shawarma?" Asta asked.
He tapped his nose. "Got it in one! I'll order your usual." He kissed the top of her head. "Love you."
"Love you too, Dad," she said.
"Good work, Psych," Tony said, clapping Loki's shoulder.
"Thank you, Tony. Sincerely" Loki said as Tony left.
Wanda kissed the top of Asta's head too. "Ok, I'll go spread the word that you're awake and back to normal. Whatever normal is around here!" she said with a laugh. "Hopefully Nat doesn't kill me for seeing you first." She stood and turned to Loki. "Good work in there. I appreciate you asking me to help. I knew you could do it on your own, though, and I was happy to not be needed."
"Thank you. That means a lot coming from you and your talents," Loki said with a bow of his head.
Wanda waved as she left and shut the door.
"Well, nap time?" Loki asked as he kissed Asta's forehead.
"In a bit. First I want to thank you."
"Asta, my love, there is nothing to thank me for."
"But there is. You took quite the risk coming into my mind like that. I didn't realize how much of a hazard it could be until I was afraid we would both get stuck in there. I wish I knew why my brain made such a mental block."
"My only theory is that your healing powers worked too thoroughly to protect your mind. Instead of keeping your memory intact, it kept it as secure as possible, just ridiculously secure, even from yourself. Perhaps I was wrong when I told Banner your powers weren't working because you forgot. They worked excessively well."
"I won't tell him you said that."
He chuckled. "I appreciate that, darling."
"But still, I cannot thank you enough for saving me. You really are my king-to-be in fine Asgardian leather."
Loki smirked. "I'll be whatever you need for me to be. Happily. Your wish is my command. I will kneel before the queen of my heart!"
"No kneeling necessary, my love. Though, the offer alone gives me butterflies."
"I suppose it speaks volumes that one of the things you recognized in your amnesia was my kneeling before you."
"To be fair, you have made a fairly large ruckus about it."
His mouth fell open. "A ruckus? That's… that's just absurd!"
"'I kneel for no one' was practically your motto! I almost stitched it on a pillow for you! Shall we ask Thor about it? Any of the Avengers or anyone on Asgard that would like to speak of your distaste for kneeling?"
"We shall do no such thing. And you are supposed to be resting, not gallivanting around, even just the tower, asking ludicrous questions."
Asta laughed. "Ok, ok. Calm down. You know, I am tired, but I also feel like I'm so worked up that I'll never get to sleep."
"I'm sure if you just tried—"
"I said," she interrupted. "I'm too worked up to sleep…"
"Well, I'm not sure what to say about…" He looked at her and her very raised eyebrows. "Oh! Is this a problem that requires my help, darling?"
"I was thinking it might, yes. Assuming you're willing?"
"I'm always willing, my temptress. But are you sure you're up to such activities? I don't mind waiting if you're—"
"By the norns, Loki! Will you shut up and just make love to me?"
His eyes grew wide. This wasn't a side he saw very often. "My minx," he whispered before rushing to kiss her. It felt so much better to kiss this Asta, the one who knew and loved him.
Asta pulled back and sighed. "Oh that's much better. Kissing you while not really knowing you felt wonderful and strange all at the same time. I knew I loved you, but I just couldn't piece it all together. The disconnect was very uncomfortable and discouraging."
"I can only imagine, my light." He kissed below her ear softly. "It was frustrating enough being on my end, it must have been so much worse for you."
"But at the same time, you still made me feel so safe. It was bizarre, knowing that I could trust you, but not knowing why. But I suppose our love is just that strong."
"Indeed. In all the realms, there is no love greater than ours. Tested and true." He gently rested his forehead on hers and sighed in content.
"Mmmm. Where were we?" she said softly.
"I believe right here," he replied, kissing her again.
As he began to kiss down her neck, she looked to the ceiling. "FRIDAY, could you soundproof the room, please?"
"Already done, Doctor Who," the AI responded. "It was requested months ago by other team members to soundproof as soon as possible whenever you two began to—"
"Ok, FRIDAY, I get it!" Asta interrupted.
"Ooh, expecting to get loud, darling?" Loki said with a glint in his eyes.
"Let's just say I expect us both to be."
Loki growled a bit in her ear and continued kissing down her neck.
It was good to be back.
