Here is the tenth chapter in this story released when I wanted it to be released based of my release process for this series. The Wizard King knows the truth behind Akame and Tatsumi and now it is time to confirm his suspicions as to the others and then begin to decide where to go from there if he's right so it's time to do just that. That is all I have for the administrative stuff I have for y'all and there are no guest reviews that need a response or questions to answer without it being a spoiler for something to come so I will end this here. Do keep them coming as your support is the best motivation for me to keep producing chapters at this kind of rate. That is it for this pre-chapter note so it is time to sit back and enjoy the tenth chapter in Akame ga Clover.
Disclaimer: I own nothing related to these two great animes.
Chapter 10: Confirmations
It was a few days after the meeting Akame and Tatsumi had with Julius where they revealed to the Wizard King that they remembered their past lives thanks to in Akame's case seeing another reborn soul in a Blue Rose Knight called Sheele and in Tatsumi's case seeing Akame when he arrived as the newest Black Bull after the Magic Knights Entrance Exam. In that meeting Julius had deduced that they were reborn souls but why it had happened he had yet to fully grasp, and he still didn't understand why they were here now.
He had looked into it of course, when he wasn't doing paperwork for Marx, as it was important and it even prevented him from wandering around the nation helping out and looking for interesting magic as he liked to do, but he'd come up with very little. He'd come across notes from about 500 years ago regarding forbidden magic that could reincarnate souls in new bodies amongst other things but that was beyond the abilities of humans as far as he knew, at least short of some sort of boost to their magic from certain items and even then the use of such magic caused a backlash on the user.
However, the pair he'd met didn't come off as being the result of forbidden magic. No, the vibe that Julius got from them was similar to his own nature is many ways in the sense that they were here for a reason, but he didn't know what that reason was.
Julius was a Time Magic user, the only known Time Mage in history, and his grimoire was coverless which was really odd though it was still a three leaf one. He'd been confused as to why he was born with such an ability and possessed a grimoire with such a strange design but in the end he realized that it was to use his power for the good of the kingdom, to become the Wizard King and end the injustices that existed in the Clover Kingdom.
In a similar fashion he felt the fact that people like Akame and Tatsumi had been reborn in their world after having died in another world and with magic so closely tied to their weapons and skills of the past had to mean something. What he did not know was the reason for them being here, that something had to be in motion that had caused Fate itself to deem such a measure necessary.
Add in that people like Akame and Tatsumi were morally gray, and you only added to the confusion as to why they were here. They were fighting for good in the sense that they routed out and ended corruption but did so without mercy or hesitation when it came to killing which only seemed to deepen Julius's views on them.
He knew that they would be key in the years to come as the rumblings he'd been feeling for quite a while now, that he'd been noticing bits and pieces of on his many sojourns into the wilds of the Clover Kingdom but had yet to determine the source of them, were nearing a head. It was these concerns that had led him to calling this specific meeting of a select few Captains who now stat around the usual meeting table in the Magic Knights Headquarters before him.
Those Captains were Yami, Fuegoleon Vermillion of the Crimson Lion Kings, Jack the Ripper of the Green Praying Mantises, Dorothy Unsworth of the Coral Peacocks who was as usual sleeping as she sat in her chair, and Charlotte Roselei of the Blue Rose Knights. Yami, Fuegoleon and Charlotte sat on one side while Jack and Dorothy on the other as they all waited for Julius to begin the meeting.
There was a specific reason why Julius had called a meeting of just these specific Captains, one he'd been planning ever since hearing the full tale of Tatsumi and Akame's past lives. They were here because they were all of the Captains that had at least one potential reborn soul in their squads.
While Julius hadn't remembered the names at first, he always remembered odd and interesting magics and the way that Akame and Tatsumi had described their friends and their Imperial Arms as they called them, along with what they did, he'd been able to deduce that magics similar to most of them existed in these Squads. Add in that Sheele girl that Akame had seen and confirmed was one of the reborn souls was a Blue Rose Knight and it all seemed to make sense that they'd end up in Magic Knight Squads.
Thus, the purpose of this meeting was to confirm Julius's suspicions that they were indeed in the Squads and see if there was anything of importance there. The fact that none had brought news of the reborn souls to Julius until Yami had when Akame's block had been broken meant that they were either hiding it from him, a dangerous concept given the natures of these people, or were honestly in the dark as to their nature. That and there was also the chance that the reborn souls in question still had the blocks in their minds and thus didn't even know that they'd been reborn in this world yet.
As they all had only one that Julius was certain of, though at least one of the members of Night Raid had used an Imperial Arms who's corresponding magic wouldn't stand out so she would have escaped his notice, he was going to err on the side of the Captains being in the dark and decide on what to do from there. Only Yami knew the full truth as he had two on his squad and brought them and for now Julius wanted to keep it like that until he could decide what to do with these reborn souls.
"Thank you all for coming on such short notice." Julius said as he took his seat at the head of the table and looked around it.
"Of course, Wizard King." Fuegoleon said in his usual serious tone. "We serve you and the Clover Kingdom but if I may ask, why just us and not all the Captains? It's uncommon for you to summon a select few rather than just one of us or all of us at once."
"A fair question and the reason for it is because this is a matter that pertains to specific knights who are in your respective Squads." Julius said surprising all but Yami with that. "So, you are the ones who I need to speak to about them. The other Captains aren't necessary for this meeting."
"Are they in trouble?" Charlotte asked seriously. "Has one of my knights done something illegal?"
"No, they aren't in trouble." Julius reassured them. "It's more that they poses odd, near unique, magics that I didn't notice until Yami's latest recruit had the same strange magical attribute as one of Fuegoleon's intermediary knights which prompted me to look into it and find all these strange magics within your Squads that peaked my interest."
"Ah you mean the young Armor Mage from the other day, the one who showed great skill and strength." Fuegoleon said. "Yes, he was an interesting candidate, had Bulat not been a member of my squad already and had I not felt that after his display in the final test that Yami's squad was better suited for him I would have taken him."
"The one who savagely knocked out that girl." Charlotte said darkly as Fuegoleon inadvertently confirmed the name to Julius as Bulat was the name that Akame and Tatsumi had used for the person who had Incursio before Tatsumi. "He's a complete brute, I can't believe that you'd want him Fuegoleon."
"Relax prickly princess." Yami said not knowing the reaction his little pet name got from Charlotte as he was totally dense to her feelings for him and how a good part of her cold exterior was due to her internal conflict over being in love with a man while also being a warrior woman at the same time. "I read that girl's ki, it was malicious as hell. Tatsumi did the right thing there and as a Magic Knight shouldn't hold back in battle he didn't, well he stopped from killing her, but he still made sure to beat her so that she could be captured had that been a normal battle. I get that some of your noble sensibilities may not like it which was great for me as I wanted him from the start."
"That girl is now part of my Squad, a sweet and compassionate girl for sure." Charlotte said defensively though she knew of Yami's skills and would heed his words about her newest recruit even if she could never let him know it. "But what would a man like you realize about that."
"Yami's intuition on these things do tend to be pretty accurate so keep an eye on her just in case Charlotte." Julius said and Charlotte gave him a terse nod in agreement on that as that was a direct order from her superior and one of the few men she respected so she'd do just that even if she thought it was a waste of time. "But back to the reason why I called you all here, Fuegoleon just mentioned one of them in Bulat, the Crimson Lion Kings' Armor Mage."
"What about him?" Fuegoleon asked. "He's a good man for sure, a loyal fighter who serves the Clover Kingdom valiantly."
"I want to know about him?" Julius said. "His magic was unique to me until Tatsumi appeared with the same attribute and it is clear that they are not related so I am curious about him. What can you tell me about him Fuegoleon?"
"Not much to really say, Bulat is a dedicated and hard worker who keeps his magic and his body sharp, in fact I'd say only Yami has a stronger physique than Bulat of all the Magic Knights that I've encountered in my time." Fuegoleon said. "He's from a lower noble house though he doesn't talk about it and applied via the entrance exam 4 years ago, impressing me enough to recruit him. His magic is on par with Leo's I'd say in terms of strength and the amount of mana that he has, more than I'd expect from someone from his family, but a real asset to the team. He even trains some of the knights in using staff-like weapons just in case they can't use their magic in a certain situation."
"Interesting." Julius said, it was all adding up that this was definitely one of the reborn souls as he expected. "What else can you tell me about him and his magic?"
"He's gay but that's not an issue to us as it doesn't interfere with the Squad in any way." Fuegoleon said with a shrug. "As for his magic, it's strong for sure and he mainly uses it to create various suits of armor of different styles and materials as well as creating shields for the team and his combat is no joke. My sister calls him 100-man slayer because he's killed over 100 criminals and foreign invaders in combat and that is my one real complaint about him. He's not exactly merciful though it's more to ensure victory and any enemies who we want alive he does his best to ensure it."
"I see, that is good to have in a Magic Knight, we've all killed in battle before after all so the ability to not hesitate when necessary is useful." Julius said. "Thank you Fuegoleon."
"Why do you want to know about Bulat, sir?" Fuegoleon asked.
"As I said, his magic was the only recorded example of Armor Magic until a few days ago so it's very interesting to me." Julius said looking around the table and they all, even Yami who knew the truth behind the meeting, groaned as it was clear that at least part of this meeting was so that the Wizard King could indulge in his magic geekiness, but he did have other reasons for the meeting. "Understanding such irregularities in magic is necessary to ensure that the Magic Knights operate smoothly and until Yami mentioned his two newest members and their odd attributes I'd realized I'd only really focused on those high up in the Magic Knights with rare magics like Yami, Jack, Dorothy, the next Aqua Deer captain Rill, and William's but not those in the Squads."
"Ke, ke, ke, well Yami is the one to talk to about that." Jack said with his usual laugh. "How many of your team have odd magics? There are a lot there that I want to sever for sure, ke, ke."
"Plenty, I recruit who I like beanpole." Yami said to Jack. "We got Thread, Shadow, Recombination, Cotton, Mirror, Armor, and Blade magics in the Black Bulls that would be classified as rare and strange. What do you have?"
"Blade magic you say, never heard of that attribute sounds like it's good for slicing and bring that Armor Mage to me, I want to see if I can slice his armor." Jack said with a sadistic grin. "We have a few odd ones for sure that I like to try and slice from time to time. En's got that Fungus Magic that's pretty interesting though why they talk and have such a drastic change to his normal personality I don't know, and then there's Lub's Wire Magic that saved my life last year but that's about it."
"Actually, Jack you've just touched on another of the Knights I wanted to inquire about, the one in your Squad." Julius said glad that Jack had given him the perfect opening to move to the next potential reborn soul. "This Lub character, his Wire Magic is unique, right?"
"Sure is, took me a good while to slash his strings in two which shocked him as they're razor sharp and near unbreakable but there's nothing that I can't slice when I get in the mood." Jack said with a grin. "The boy really knows how to use them as well, he's real inventive with what he makes and the alert system he's set up ensures that we aren't ever surprised so long as he has the magic to maintain it. He's more a recon and support fighter though but he wouldn't hesitate to kill if need be which I like though his habit of trying to be a ladies man is a bit irritating."
"Coming from a nutcase like you that has to be saying something." Yami said. "I take it he was the one who alerted you to that assassination attempt."
"Ke, ke, yeah it was his strings that were tripped at an hour when no one should be near the base, or in particular my own rooms, that alerted me to an intruder with potentially hostile intent." Jack said. "Let me know where that pathetic bastard was, slashed him clean in two for trying to kill me, ke, ke."
"I read that in your report on the incident." Julius said as the others winced at the fate the assassin had suffered not that the person didn't deserve it for trying to kill a Magic Knight Captain. "What else can you tell me about this Lub guy?"
"His full name is Lubbock and he's from a merchant family who my dad knew back in the day as he was a main buyer of the small game my dad hunted, so his dad asked me to take in Lub as a magic knight two years back as he was fourth born son so no real mercantile future." Jack said. "I didn't want to do it at first, but I owed the man a favor, so I accepted Lub into the Squad. Then I learned that that Wire Magic of his couldn't be slashed on my first few attempts, so I knew I had to have him on the team to be able to one day break it, well break his main spell wire that is as that's his really strong one."
"And that is?" Julius asked eager to know more and trying to restrain himself though they all saw the stars in his eyes. "The spell that is. Wire Magic sounds so cool, I've got to learn more about it."
"Cross Tail is what the spell is called and no I don't know why it's called that." Jack said not knowing he'd all but confirmed Lubbock as a reborn soul to Julius as Cross Tail had been the name of Lubbock's Imperial Arms according to Tatsumi. "He creates this reel with what seems like infinity string that isn't metal, the only spell of his that doesn't create metal wires actually, but damn tough and he uses devices in his gloves and on his fingers to help control it. Pretty useful overall."
"I bet, thank you Jack, I was curious about the magic that had saved you, so this is good to know." Julius said using another line to shift focus to the next Captain he wanted to talk to. "And on that note, Dorothy, what was the magic that saved you when you, Jack and Yami were all attacked? You're report said that it was some strong and useful magic so what was it? Dorothy?"
"Oh, that wasn't anything special." Dorothy said as she suddenly snapped awake at the question and smiled her peppy attitude at complete odds with her usual habit of almost always being asleep. "Chelsea's got some really strong Transformation Magic and a deep mana well, not at the level of myself or a royal like Kirsch but still deeper than you'd expect from a commoner, so when I nap outside in the sun she sets up various illusions and protections around me. When that little sod tried to kill me all he did was hit her illusion. Once it was clear I was in danger I woke up to transport him to my Glamor World, but he chose to sleep and die there before I could get started with some light torture."
"Huh I thought you had someone with a unique and strange form of magic." Julius said though the name Chelsea tugged at his mind as that was the name of the final member of Night Raid who's Imperial Arms was transformation based thus meaning that she'd likely have a more known form of magic in Transformation Magic. "One that sounds like it should be more well known but isn't if I recall."
"Oh, I have a girl like that and she's like Chelsea's best frenemy as they're inseparable but also constantly bickering with each other as if they're an old couple, it's actually really cute." Dorothy said surprising Julius. "Mine always rises to Chelsea's bait but they a clearly close, Chelsea even insisted that I accept Mine as a member of the Coral Peacocks when she applied two years ago, Chelsea is a year older. I don't know why but that Mental Magic that Mine has was rather intriguing and who am I to turn down a cute girl in need."
"Oh, the girl in pink with one spell that varied in strength in her battle, I remember her." Charlotte said. "I also offered a place in my Squad, but she surprised me by choosing yours."
"What can I say, she liked me better." Dorothy said with a grin at Charlotte. "Though I don't think you'd get along with Mine, she's a lot like you in the sense that she's really uptight and stubborn while also hiding her feelings."
"What do you mean?" Charlotte asked unsure what to make of Dorothy's words especially with the implication that she might know of Charlotte's secret love for Yami.
"Just that you put up a tough exterior but are really nice on the inside." Dorothy said.
"There is so much of that that I don't understand." Yami said and he wasn't alone as the rest of the gather Captains just blinked at the exchange, but Julius did understand it to some extent and the unique magic got him, so he interjected to learn more about it.
"Mental Magic, like Marx's Memory Magic?" Julius asked as he was certain that Mine was a reborn soul, and that Chelsea was one as well for that matter as their dynamic matched what Akame and Tatsumi had described.
"No, it's actually really hard to explain what it is." Dorothy said as she put a finger on her chin and looked up to think on how best to describe Mine's magic. "Basically, what she can do is turn her own mental energy into power that she blasts out as concentrated beams of mana through a wand she has as apparently that's the easiest way for her use it to its fullest efficiency. The greater the danger she's in the stronger her blasts are but even without being in danger they're deadly as she's scarily accurate with them to the point that I use her as a ranged specialist and cover for various missions."
"I've heard of a few strange kind of things like that with magic." Julius said recalling a report from the spies he had in the Diamond Kingdom about an up-and-coming Mage there who didn't have a magical attribute but could absorb and then discharge any magic which was what made him deadly though Julius didn't know the specifics about that person. "Does she have any spells? Surely she'd have gotten a grimoire when she was 15."
"She does have a grimoire but the only spell I've seen her use is called Pumpkin for some reason." Dorothy said. "It creates a strange, large, item that looks like those shooting game guns at the Star Festival only larger and more technical. Whatever it is, it really channels her Mental Magic for super long-range attacks and even increases the lethality of her power and Mine has no hesitation in killing when it is necessary."
"I see." Julius said now certain this was the Mine that Akame and Tatsumi had spoken of. "What's her background?"
"Poor commoner but oddly high amount of mana like right at Chelsea's level though Chelsea might be part noble given her own background, but she's never revealed her parentage to me." Dorothy said. "Mine, however, is an orphan who was born right on the border of Clover and Diamond to a mother from Clover and a father from Diamond and both died during the wars with Diamond. She grew up on the streets of Kiten before deciding to come to the capital to be a Magic Knight and she really abhors corruption and discrimination. That coupled with her snarky and standoff attitude has caused some issues, especially with Kirsch, but he can live with it for all I care as I recruited her. Same with Chelsea for that matter."
"Interesting and what about this Chelsea?" Julius said. "Where's she from?"
"She's a former maid to that low level noble that was assassinated a few years back, you know the one that liked to hunt commoners for fun and used bribery to hide his crimes until after he died." Dorothy said. "She was in his service through getting her grimoire then shortly after she got it he died suddenly and under suspicious circumstances but then his crimes came to light."
"I remember that man, his death was a surprise but after we learned the truth of his actions no one cared." Julius said. "I ordered an investigation that concluded that his death was a sudden one but couldn't determine a cause of it so it's still officially an open investigation but not being actively pursued."
"He was a despicable man who would have been executed had he not suddenly died so his loss is not one I personally mourn." Fuegoleon said. "I am glad that the King listened to my recommendation to replace him."
"Yes the new noble who oversees that area is a true noble in the vein that I admire, he's really made life better there and I use it as an example for the kinds of nobles who should get such responsibilities." Julius said though already he had a good feeling of how the cruel noble had died but he just had to confirm. "Dorothy, what kind of spells does this Chelsea have? Transformation Magic isn't common but not uncommon enough to be on the same level as the other kinds of magic I've asked about today so where would she stack up on that hierarchy."
"She's the best I've ever seen though oddly it's a two-step process for her to change herself." Dorothy said. "It's some spell called Gaea Foundation where she creates this strange cosmetics box and then uses it to change herself but when she changes it's unreal because she can't just change her own body into another human's, but she can change into animals so fully that she'll take on their characteristics like flight and even into flora and fauna if she has to which is beyond any Transformation Mage I know."
"That is beyond any I've heard of." Julius said. "Though Yami you've got a notable Transformation Mage on your team as well if I recall."
"Oh yeah Grey, dude's strange but I like him, and he can fully change into any person or animal as far as I know." Yami said. "Not sure about anything else though as Grey doesn't really do much in the Squad."
"Still, that is some powerful magic." Julius said. "And you said that Chelsea can do illusions as well?"
"She can transform the air around her at least that's what she said to me." Dorothy said. "It can go so far as to keep sound out, so her skills are something else from what I understand of the magic. That's how I saw her potential in the entrance exam when she took it and then she joined me a year later where she seemed to have a headache right at the start before transforming, likely to alleviate it, and then told me to recruit Mine."
"Oh, she was that orange haired girl with an interesting fashion sense with you who suddenly transformed into a much plainer and more forgettable girl." Charlotte said. "I remember her, she was certainly someone I should have noticed when she took the exam but didn't. I recall how insistent she was about that Mine girl, but I wanted her as well, so I didn't back down even if Mine chose your Squad in the end."
"Yes she was rather insistent on getting Mine." Dorothy said. "Still not sure why though but I guess they knew each other before they became Magic Knights so she wanted her friend in the Squad, that would also explain why they're inseparable now. Mine had the talent to be a Magic Knight so I didn't see why not."
"You don't know anything more about them?" Julius asked.
"Nah, I'm asleep too much to really care outside of Chelsea helping to protect my outdoor naps and Mine's long range support on missions." Dorothy said. "And as neither are nobles Kirsch doesn't either though he's not a fan of having commoners in the Squad, other than myself but as I'm a witch I'm neither noble nor a commoner. Anyway, those girls do their own thing most of the time though, so I don't mind so long as they do their jobs when they're assigned to it."
"Oh, ok well thank you for that." Julius said now certain that those two didn't have their blocks anymore, if they were reborn souls as he suspected, so the next thing with them was to find out why they'd not told Dorothy but all in good time. "Good to know thank you Dorothy."
"Sure thing." Dorothy said with a smile before she suddenly fell asleep again.
"That was impressive." Julius said blinking at Dorothy who was now out like a light before he turned back to the others and looked at Charlotte. "That just leaves you Charlotte, there is one member of your Squad I'd like to ask about."
"Um sure." Charlotte said a little surprised by that. "Who?"
"A girl called Sheele." Julius said as his eyes turned to stars. "I heard that she has Scissor Magic, what even is that I'd never heard about it until the other day."
"Oh, is that all you wanted to know." Charlotte said with a sigh of relief at the Wizard King being, well, himself when it came to one of her Squad. "There's not much there to say, Sheele's a nice girl even if she's a total klutz and a complete airhead most of the time so we can't trust her with chores as she tends to mess them up badly. It seems that that caused issues for her in the past but she's damned good with her magic and when she fights she becomes serious and ruthless, a real warrior woman on the battlefield who doesn't hesitate. Honestly, I'd rank her combat fourth in the Blue Rose Knights after myself, Sol, and Puli that's how good she is. It's actually odd how much of a dichotomy she has though."
"I see that is strange, but some people do have better battle focus than normal focus." Julius said thinking on what Charlotte had said. "And her magic? What's it like?"
"That's what makes her so good as it's scary at times." Charlotte said. "Her main spell is called Extase and creates these giant scissors that she can wield as a weapon and will cut anything between them. They really sheer my briars if they come in contact with them and their cutting isn't limited to physical stuff, pretty much anything that can be cut can be by them though they don't work the way Jack's Severing Magic works as far as I know."
"Ke, ke, I like this chick already." Jack said. "I want to test those scissors."
"And you're being a freak again." Yami said.
"Moving on." Julius said. "What else can she do?"
"Pretty much just various other kinds of scissor-based spells that have a multitude of cutting purposes though she prefers her main one." Charlotte said. "I usually send her on missions alone when her skills are needed as, well, she does have a habit of leaving more bodies than normal in her wake. Most of my other girls are afraid to go with her on missions for that reason but other than that they do like and accept her."
"Ah well we all know death well, but it can be disturbing for some so that is a good call." Julius said. "And how did you find her?"
"Pure accident, I didn't recruit Sheele the normal way." Charlotte said. "Some guys were harassing her for some reason, and I was about to step in to help her and tell her that she could be stronger than them but then she dispatched them in seconds and so I saw her potential and offered her a spot in the Squad which she accepted after I explained it to her. She's found a home with us that I think she was always looking for."
"So basically, like how Yami finds his members." Julius said causing Charlotte to flush and look away for some reason that Julius didn't understand but for Charlotte it was the thrill of being compared to Yami that had gotten her. "Well thank you all for coming in and discussing this. Yami brought it to my attention with his two newest member, so I want to learn more about all the magic our Magic Knights have, and this was a good start."
"We are always glad to serve." Fuegoleon said.
"I know and if any of you hear of other new members with interesting magic do let me know." Julius said. "Or those with strong magic that seems strange. With my own magic and some of the magic present along with others that have recently come to light I feel like these strange and unique magics could be beneficial in numerous ways going forward."
"Well sir if that is what you are looking for I will have to ask Mereoleona about it." Fuegoleon said. "She owes me more details anyway so it's high time I got some concrete answers on this front."
"How so?" Julius asked.
"Last year she asked me to send a Crimson Lion Kings robe to her as she wanted her apprentice to become a member of the Squad." Fuegoleon said. "It was the first time she'd ever asked for that, she's not the Captain so she can't recruit members but as my older sister and the one who'd likely fill in for me should I be incapacitated she can make such a request but until last year she'd never done so."
"That does seem odd for Mereoleona." Julius admitted. "If I recall she hates politics and the Capital, it's why she spends 300 days a year out in the strong magic regions, so I'm surprised that she'd make such a request of you."
"As was I which is why I pressed her on it as I'd never heard of, or met, an apprentice before." Fuegoleon said. "She gave me the overview at least given her request. Apparently about 10 years ago she was in Kikka for something, and a commoner girl picked her pocket and fled, almost got away as well before Mereoleona caught her. Rather than punish the girl my sister saw her potential and took her on with her usual training. She became Mereoleona's protégé and has remained with her since."
"Um your sister's training is rather intense." Julius said. "And she doesn't tolerate weakness."
"Correct which is why she didn't tell me about this apprentice until she turned 15 and got her grimoire as she'd survived until then." Fuegoleon said. "She survived my sister and apparently is now a lot like her, but her magic is unique, a kind Mereoleona has never heard of before, but which actually helped her in the wild more than normal."
"Another Magic Knight like Mereoleona, that is a scary thought." Julius said and the others who knew Mereoleona agreed on that front. "So did you give her a robe?"
"I did even though my sister never told me the girl's name or magic, but I did stipulate that I wouldn't officially recognize this girl as a member of the Crimson Lion Kings until she was presented to me which Mereoleona has promised to do the next time she comes to the Capital." Fuegoleon said. "For all of our differences I trust her judgement and anyone who can survive a decade of training with my sister is worthy in my book. I will look more into this now though as it is high time I got this girl's name and attribute at least."
"Please do." Julius said and Fuegoleon nodded before he looked around the others. "Anything else?"
When none of them said anything Julius dismissed them as he collected his thoughts. He knew that Yami would be going to his reception office for their follow up meeting and would go and meet his old friend there in a moment. It certainly seemed that all but one of the other names Tatsumi and Akame had mentioned were here though the one that wasn't mentioned was also the one both thought might have survived along with their boss as they died without knowing her fate so that made sense. This was going to take a lot to sort out, but Julius needed to discuss this with Yami first.
"So, was that what we thought?" Yami said once Julius had joined him in the large, special chamber he used for audiences like this and had taken a seat at the single desk in the room. "Are they reborn souls?"
"The names match and all of them use magic based off their Imperial Arms." Julius said. "And the spells are just what we expected based on the names of the Imperial Arms that Tatsumi and Akame gave us and the spells that they have. I had expected it to be one per squad but two in the Coral Peacocks was a surprise but that was more because Chelsea's magic was expected to be Transformation Magic so I thought she would be harder to find."
"Based on what Dorothy said it seems that that Chelsea girl recognized Mine and got her memories back hence why she insisted on Mine joining, the headache thing was what happened to Tatsumi and Akame mentioned it as well." Yami said. "From there it is safe to deduce that Mine's memories are back as well if those two are always together."
"Yes they almost certainly are but both girls stayed quiet." Julius said. "Which means they have something planned and I'm not sure what it is."
"So, what is the best course of action with them?" Yami asked.
"For now, we leave them as is, if they are both aware then they know that others who died before them might be here as well but haven't sought them out for their own reasons." Julius said. "Both Akame and Tatsumi died after them based on that timeline they gave us, so they won't know that those two have been reborn but the others they likely presume are here at least. I say we leave it to those two as they've clearly kept this from Dorothy for a reason but if Akame and Tatsumi run into the girls then they can tell them of the current situation."
"I'll let them know." Yami said. "They could be useful allies in your goals to route out and end corruption."
"Yes, having them on board would be useful as they are in a different Squad, but I want to keep the true knowledge of this restricted to the Black Bulls, myself, Marx, and any reborn souls that have had the blocks broken." Julius said. "Hopefully, they will be on board when they learn about Akame and Tatsumi and then we can focus on the others if possible, but I still need to formulate a plan on that front. This is all new and strange so we should be cautious with how we proceed."
"I understand why you have us on this, the Black Bulls are designed for this kind of work." Yami said. "I'll let the Squad know when I get back. What of new members though as I know I'll get some? Hell Nozel has already started making hints to me that he wants to exile his youngest sibling to us when she turns 15 next year."
"Noelle would be well suited with you, and I honestly think that she can only truly grow into a fine Magic Knight if she is away from her family and the nobility." Julius said. "So, I support that. As for new members, we have time to deduce a test to see if they are worthy of this kind of information, but I am sure that any you recruit will accept it."
"I'll leave that test to you until I get new members, but I don't like keeping secrets from my Squad." Yami said.
"I understand and will have a test before the next Entrance Exam, I promise." Julius said. "The skills that Akame and Tatsumi have, they will come in handy for us in our quest to route out and destroy corruption so I will have something on that in time. Until then, though, I want you to train them up more."
"They're both highly skilled already." Yami said as he thought on them. "But there is something I can do to help them that would make them stronger, and it will really help them because they fight with swords."
"Excellent then I will leave that to you." Julius said. "Things are coming to a head Yami, I can feel it, and I will need you by my side when they do."
"Of course, Julius." Yami said as he gave a salute to the Wizard King. "You believed in me when no one else did so I will be there for you in this endeavor."
"Thank you Yami." Julius said as Yami put his hand down. "I've kept you too long so head back to your Squad."
Yami nodded as he turned and left the room to find his ride wherever Finral had gone off too after taking Yami to this meeting as Julius turned to look out at the setting sun. Things were coming that would need all the skills they had, he was sure of it, so he had to have faith in Yami and these reborn souls, as well as anyone else on his side, that they could help when the time came.
Yami stepped out of the portal outside of his headquarters with Finral and head the clacking sound of wooden swords clashing with each other off to the side. That brought back a lot of memories of his homeland and his scumbag of a father, along with darker memories of what that man did, that he pushed away and turned to see Akame and Tatsumi outside the building engaged in a duel with wooden katanas as they trained their sword skills.
It was clear that Akame was the better one, but Tatsumi was no slouch and while his katana skills could do with some improvement he was still a good swordsman with his own sword, so he knew what to do with one. In this day and age few on this continent dueled with swords or sword-like weapons unless their magic lent towards it, but Yami was one of those who used a sword in conjunction with his magic though it was in large part due to his past back in his homeland.
Akame and Tatsumi both did as well due to the nature of their magic, Akame's literally created swords and other bladed weapons after all, coupled with their past life. That meant that Yami could at least instruct them in something from his homeland that could aid them in their swordplay and now was as good a time as ever to start.
"Listen up you two." Yami said as Finral hurried in and Yami walked over to his two newest and strangest members who didn't stop their duel at his words but did when Akame got under Tatsumi's guard and landed a lethal blow that would have bisected him but with a wooden sword only winded Tatsumi and drove him back a few feet. "Good strike there Akame, got under his guard and used your superior skills with a katana as well as your size to your advantage. Tatsumi, you need to be more aware of where the blade is coming from and don't be afraid to use your raw strength when you fight."
"Yes sir." Tatsumi said as he panted, and they turned to their Captain. "It's coming back to me, there are no excuses to this. One of my spells creates an armor set that comes with a katana so I really need to master its use, Akame and you will be of great help there."
"Good there aren't excuses in sloppy swordsmanship." Yami said intrigued by that armor mention as it might be something from his homeland, but he decided not to deal with it right now as he had something more pressing to address. "But I do have something that will help you both improve your swordplay while removing your reliance on magic thus freeing it up for more spells in battle. I'll teach both of you it, for 500 yule each that is."
"Your charging us?" Tatsumi asked surprised.
"You've not been around long enough Tatsumi." Akame said with a sigh. "The Captain tends to gamble away most of his money but don't worry, I'll take you somewhere where we can make it up quickly so it will be worth it."
"If you mean the fighting pits in the black market then I need to inform that beanpole of when you're going to be there." Yami said with a grin. "I'll bet this thousand on you two through him and really rake it in. Anyway, do you want to learn what I can teach you?"
"What is it?" Tatsumi said.
"It's how I fight, and it's not based in magic." Yami said which got their attention especially Akame's as she knew what this was and was really eager to finally learn how to use it. "Akame knows it as it is what save me when she tried to kill me, but it is time you both learned something the folks back in my homeland call ki. With it you will become stronger, I am sure of it, especially because it will allow you to be a better swordsman Tatsumi."
"Finally." Akame said with a smile. "Tatsumi this will be worth it."
"Alright then I accept as well." Tatsumi said with a nod. "What is ki though?"
"Well, ki is…" Yami said as he began to tell them before plunging them right into the deep end to learn how to master ki.
I think that's a good place to leave this chapter off, a nice little tease of what Tatsumi and Akame will learn and of course use going forward so there will be 4 Black Bulls who know how to use ki when Asta learns it in time. Naturally I always planned on them learning it as they fight with swords and other weapons, so it makes sense and adds to everything for them. Other than that this chapter serves to confirm that almost all of Night Raid are now confirmed to be in the Clover Kingdom though only Sheele has been seen briefly but that will change in time. There is only one more chapter after this that will be before the point that Black Clover actually starts so we are nearing the end of what is effectively the prologue arc and about to head into the first arc of Black Clover with Akame and Tatsumi's influence on the series, as well as the other reborn. That is all I have for y'all however so I will leave this chapter off here. If you liked it then please follow, favorite, review, PM, etc. it is all appreciated and helps me get better and stay motivated to keep producing more content and any questions asked I will do my best to answer both privately and at the start of the next chapter. Until next time.
