Here is the eleventh chapter in this series released in keeping with my self-imposed upload schedule for this series. The first two battles of the battle trial are over with an unorthodox and then a quick victory for the hero teams. Now it is time for the alternate path students to go at it in the third battle to see which team is better and for one of them to finally use her Quirk. What could possibly go wrong this time? That is all the administrative stuff I have and there are no guest reviews that need a response or questions that need answers. Do keep the reviews and PMs coming as I always like hearing how much y'all are enjoying my work. Anyway, that is it for this pre-chapter note which means that it is time to sit back and enjoy the eleventh chapter in Black RWBY Academia.
Disclaimer: I own nothing related to these three great franchises.
Chapter 11: Knights v. Huntresses
"Next up is our designated special match." All Might said as he produced a third box that he'd set aside for the match and reached into it. "And the villain team for this will be…Team K. That means that Team M will be the heroes."
He finished by producing the ball to show them. It took a moment for them to get process it but when they had they quickly got the floor plans for the building in question, the radios they needed, and directions before they began to head to their starting building.
"Also, as young Rose and Schnee are Huntress students with licensed weapons that have been made non-lethal for this exercise that will be a factor in this match." All Might announced over the announcement system as they made their way to their designated building, a 15 story office building with floor to ceiling glass windows on each level other than the first one. "If I deem a blow has landed in what would be a killing or crippling blow then I'll announce it and that hero is out. Young Asta's sword is a blunt weapon, so it doesn't count."
"Well, that helps us." Ruby said as they reached the building and she and Weiss went in to plan while Asta, Nero, and Noelle waited outside and began to look over the floor plan though their instructions didn't have the bomb's location on it. "So, what's our plan?"
"First we find the bomb, it's on the 13th floor and the floor plan is pretty simple." Weiss said once they were inside and couldn't be overheard having already studied the floor plan on the way over. "Then I'll come up with something that will win this for us."
Ruby was going to object but didn't as they stared at what was before them on the first floor. It was an open plan building with most of the floor made to look like a barren office with a few desks and cubicles with a reception desk at the front of it. In the back was the door that led to the stairs, toilets, and an elevator that they hurried to and took it to the 13th floor. The level of detail inside wasn't as much as was expected but it was still a fair bit all things considered.
The girls got off the elevator and walked into another open plan floor with no desks or chairs and just a carpeted floor that felt a little unstable as if wasn't as reinforced as it should be with some pillars here and there for support. There were a few water coolers on one side and a little kitchenette next to the doors to the bathrooms but that was really it. Well other than the giant black bomb about two thirds of way into the room that the girls approached.
"There's no way that we can move it unless you're Quirk allows you to carry things with it so best to just stay and defend it." Weiss said as they reached it, and she tapped it. "Can you assist in that?"
"Sure, my sweetheart and I can do that though I've not tried to carry something with Petal Burst so I don't know on that front." Ruby said as she pulled out Crescent Rose and flicked a button to expand her into the full scythe mode. "But I don't think we need to both be here for this one. Some teams are better at pure defense, but we should take the fight to them."
"What do you…ok what the hell?" Weiss said her eyes wide as she saw that Rose's weapon was, of all things, a giant red and black scythe with a spear on one end and really high tech looking with things on it that she couldn't identify. "That's your weapon?"
"Yup." Ruby said with a smile. "Make her myself at Signal after I got my personal support gear license."
"A scythe?" Weiss asked as she blinked at the uncommon weapon which was next to impossible to use. "You can wield one?"
"Er yes it was what I was using when I earned my recommendation." Ruby said confused as Weiss tried to process the fact that Rose had actually made it herself. "She's also a gun, mainly long range sniping and I can fire her in either this form or in its ready mode."
"Um ok." Weiss said deciding that she couldn't figure it out so it was best to just let it drop and see what Rose could do with such a weapon but clearly the girl could hold it so that was something. "Anyway, I can use my glyphs to shield the bomb and trap the others after they get here, mainly Asta as his Quirk is the one that I'm most worried about, so you can focus on picking them off once they're immobilized."
"Yeah I don't think that will work." Ruby said shaking her head. "Not with Asta on their team. As you said you're worried about him and his sword is large, it will be hard to deal with."
"I'm worried about his Quirk not him as he is just like Midoriya, he'll barrel into danger, and we will use that against him." Weiss said as if it was obvious. "I was in his entrance exam; I saw it firsthand. Without me and that Nero girl he wouldn't have passed."
"Regardless, his Quirk is like Aizawa's." Ruby pointed out a little frustrated at Weiss for not listening to her idea to go after them directly as she felt that it was better to take the fight to the other team and hit them hard and fast from range. "He can nullify our Quirks with that sword and I am sure that it would work differently on mine than yours seeing ask I have a transformation class Quirk whereas you have an emitter. Also, I bet that it's dense enough that your sword can't deflect it."
"That may be but all we need to do is let him charge in and I'll use a gravity glyph to hold him in place." Weiss said, she had a plan to deal with him and was even going to incorporate Ruby into it if she could. "As soon as he's motionless shoot him with that scythe of yours. You heard what All Might said, land a killing or crippling blow and he's done, and you can do that even with his sword if he can't move his legs."
"That's won't work, I don't think he's as dumb as you think he is." Ruby said shaking her head. "I should go and counter him, hunt them down and if I fail in my opening attack split them up so I can take out Asta in a one on one duel. The first team could have done that with Ida and his speed, but they didn't because of whatever issues Bakugo has with Midoriya. Right strategy wrong team member but we can improve on that seeing as neither of us have a personal stake in this match. That will leave Silva and Nero for you and I am sure you can handle them. I'm not actually sure what their Quirks are but you know Silva, can you stop her and guard the bomb?"
"I know her Quirk, but I also know that she's got no control over it." Weiss said looking to the water coolers that she'd noted the moment she saw them as with Noelle in this match they weren't a comforting sign. "Still, she will likely use it as Mr. Aizawa wants her to do so and it's a lot stronger than anything we've seen in class so far, even Todoroki's can't compare. His ice can counter her but still she's got a lot of raw power. The Silva's are one of the top three Quirk Knight families, they've been improving their family's Quirks for generations and Noelle is in the latest generation. I know her siblings' Quirks and other than her eldest brother Nozel, she likely has the most power of them but no control."
"Wait really?" Ruby asked surprised at what Weiss was saying.
"Noelle is here under Nezu's exception." Weiss said simply. "You only get that if you have the power for it and she does, she just lacks the control she needs to make the most of it. Nero isn't an issue, that girl's Quirk allows her to seal herself to things from what I've gathered. She's got a lot of support tactics, but direct combat isn't her strength so she's not an issue as I can land a killing or crippling blow before she's a threat. It's Noelle who could be."
"Then we need to negate her and Asta." Ruby said knowing that the go order was about to come. "So let me go after him, take him out and then come aid you. I'll even try to get Silva as well if I can."
"No, we stay here and face them." Weiss said thinking on it as All Might gave the go order to start the match. "That's how we beat them."
"Screw that." Ruby said unable to take it anymore as she knew that her plan was a solid one, so she ran towards the door to the stairs and burst towards it before coming out right at the end. "I'm going to find and take care of Asta at least. Protect the bomb and defeat the others."
"Dammit Rose listen to reason." Weiss yelled but realized that she was getting nowhere so added as Ruby left the room. "Fine but at least go to the basement and turn off the water mains, we need to remove all water from the area."
Ruby didn't hear this as she burst again and went down the stairs to find her opponents. She knew that she had this, she just had to find them and beat them, on her own if she had to. She would show Weiss that she could do this, that she was worthy of her recommendation, and would make a great Huntress one day.
"So how do we do this?" Asta asked as the rend in the air appeared and he pulled his sword out and looked at the closed door before them. "I say we just charge in and search for it, I'll smack them if they get in the way."
"Rose's weapon might have bullets though." Nero said as she looked over their copy of the floor plan and realized that Asta's plan, as simple as it was, was a decent one. "So be careful but Schnee's Quirk and sword are no match for you so that works for her. In a matchup you're worse off against Rose's mobility and the unknown factor of her weapon compared to Schnee's more predictable style and a Quirk that won't hold up against yours."
"Got it." Asta said looking to Noelle. "So, Silva, any ideas or help."
"I don't think you can do what you want, it's too stupid and reckless, insect." Noelle said dismissively hating that she had to talk to someone beneath her, but she had no choice right now. "But it would work on Weiss I guess. She's skilled but so long as you hit her glyphs before she can put ice or fire Dust into them that's fine as they are her Quirk so yours will negate hers. However, if Rose does come after you and gets you on your own then we need a backup for Weiss."
"Distract her long enough and I can get to her." Nero said simply. "So long as someone is assisting me I think I can deal with Schnee providing I can engage her in hand to hand combat."
"You can?" Asta asked. "Does Sealing help you there?"
"Yes what is your Quirk?" Noelle asked. "I couldn't tell from the assessment."
"Sealing." Nero replied to Noelle as Asta already knew it. "I can seal my hands and feet to things, open and lock locks, doors, and what not, and basically seal anything that can be sealed up. It gives me some limited healing capabilities as well. I've not really practiced it in offensive combat but in theory I should be able to seal muscles and joints in place to immobilize someone. The drawback is that I need to touch them. How about you, what's your Quirk? we haven't seen that at all."
"Right, what is it?" Asta asked.
"I'll use it if I have to." Noelle said not revealing it just yet. "But for the moment we should just focus on the insect charging in. He will likely end up distracting Rose while Weiss protects the bomb, so let him face her and her weapon and Nero an I will go to the bomb. Once the insect has dealt with Rose he can come and back us up."
"That may work." Asta said thinking on it.
"Of course it will, I am a Silva after all." Noelle said her tone haughty at that.
"Sure, why not." Nero said as All Might gave the order to begin. "Now come on, let's go in and win this."
The others nodded as they charged into the building and began to look around. They noticed that it was an open plan office which meant that the bomb, based on the size of it from the previous two matches, would be on one of the floors but not which one which meant that they'd have to go and quickly search the floors so Asta ran off to the stairs with the girls on his heels, Nero completely calm and Noelle a mix of annoyance and nerves as she was still unsure if she could control her Quirk should she have to use it.
Asta's plan was simply, run up the stairs, kick the door to the floor in and look around the open plan room. If he didn't see the bomb then he'd turn around and move on to the next level. The rooms were large and while some floors had large side rooms for conferences or toilets the former had glass walls that could be seen through and the latter too small to hide the bomb in, so it was a plan that actually worked as they quickly cleared the floors and kept going.
The only thing about it that was hard, on the girls at least, was that they were constantly running up the stairs as Asta checked the floors, ruled them out, and then charged up just as the girls reached his level. They were nowhere near his level of stamina so it was taxing on them and made both realize that in hero work personal fitness was a must which was something both of them would have to work on to improve as they followed Asta in clearing the floors.
The floors themselves had the same general open plan with a few pillars but there were changes on each to make them different. Some were utterly barren, some had the conference rooms, and the 5th floor was properly fitted with cubicles and old school computers with nothing untouched. However, by the 9th floor they had found nothing and the girls were panting as Asta hit the stairs to the next level. That was when they heard a metallic sound and the crunching of metal being rent apart which alerted them to one of the villains.
The sound had been Ruby slamming the point of her scythe into the metal of the stairs and securing it there. The stairs were your typical emergency stairs that were basically an empty column with the metal stairs raising around it with bannisters and railings to prevent you from falling into the empty void.
That made them they were tough to run up but had allowed them to hear the sound and look up to see the strange sight just above them. It also allowed Asta to get his sword up in time as Ruby fired a rubber bullet from the top of her weapon down at Asta and the girls so that the bullet pinged off the flat of his sword.
It was a good defense but the real oddity to the situation was that Ruby was upside down above them the top of her weapon, which they could tell was a scythe now, buried in the metal of the outside of the stairs themselves as she held the haft like she would a rifle and the tops of her feet were through the lowest of the railing above her. Her cape was down over her head as she looked down at them, but her skirt was surprisingly unmoving showing that it had some serious support structure to it.
"Damn, well gotta get back then." Ruby called out from her position, she'd not planned to be in this specific position, but she'd seen them coming up and just acted on the opening, but she'd failed so now she had to retreat which she would do and lead Asta off in the process if she could. "See you."
With that Ruby ripped her scythe out of the metal leaving a jagged hole where it had been as she showed some damned impressive core strength to pull herself back and up a bit, firing another shot off that Asta blocked again but it was designed to keep them at bay for a moment, before she burst into her Quirk and shot up to land one flight above where she'd been. She then turned and ran into that floor which Asta realized was the 12th one.
"Keep checking the floors." Asta said as he charged after Ruby knowing that this was his best chance to handle her. "Find Schnee and the bomb, I'll deal with Rose."
"Insect…" Noelle said but Asta was already charging up.
"Leave him, he knows what he's doing, I think and even if it is a trap he should be able to overcome it." Nero said as she panted a bit but ran up to the 10th floor to check the room out. "We've got to focus on the mission. Asta's the best of us to handle Rose so he's got this."
"Fine." Noelle said as she followed Nero.
Asta naturally didn't hear any of this as he ran up to the 12th floor and shoulder charged his way through the door to it swinging his sword as he did to put off any potential attack. However, none came, and he moved into the floor as he slowed his pace down to take stock of the floor. It seemed that this one was being used for storage as it was filled with desks, cubicle walls, chairs, computers, phones, empty and full water coolers, and even a few long wooden conference tables all just dumped here in a haphazard manner.
That really slowed Asta down as he began to cautiously make his way deeper into the room as he looked around, sense on alert, as he tried to see if there was a bomb but there wasn't which meant that this had been a distraction to split them up. That could only mean…
Before Asta could finish thinking he heard two things. The first was a slight groan as if something of a greater weight was on weak metal and the second was a loud scrap of metal on metal that he'd learn in time was the cocking mechanism on Crescent Rose. Regardless, he'd heard it and turned, the flat of his sword up and ready just as the shot was fired at him. He deflected it just in time and it was a true shot that would have hit him in the forehead but he'd managed it.
"Damn, you're really good with that thing." Ruby said and Asta lowered his sword a bit to see that she was crouched atop a metal storage locker that had been placed randomly in the room to one side, the weapon now a rectangular rifle that she had in her shoulder to fire on him. "It's both really cool and annoying to face."
"I could say the same about you." Asta said as he kept his sword up, Ruby had clearly used her Quirk when she entered the room and moved to a higher vantage point away from his initial line of sight to get the shot off and the trail of red rose petals confirmed it. "You've got a really good handle on that Quirk of yours as well, and it works great with that cool weapon of yours. Add in your battlefield mind and it's no wonder that you got a recommendation."
"My sweetheart really helped me there." Ruby admitted. "Here, let me show you."
With that she leapt off the locker and burst into her Quirk again flying through the air and around Asta above the reach of his sword before bursting out of it when she was clearly above him but on a crash course for where he stood. As she did she flicked the switch on Crescent Rose to turn it back into a scythe and brought it down hard in a two handed overhand strike from above right at Asta's head in an attempt to knock him out.
It was a good move, but Asta had his sword at the ready for it and raised it up to take the blow on the flat of his blade with a loud clang of metal on metal as Ruby grimaced from the vibrations that were sent through the haft. Still, this was within what Ruby had anticipated and used the block to fire a shot at near point blank range at Asta's head. However, he had seen the barrel, or what he presumed was the barrel, and turned head to the side so that it missed as he pushed back and up, his off hand on the flat of the blade that was facing him to add to it, to send Ruby away.
As she was thrown back Asta saw a chance that he could take thanks to the length of his sword and the design of Ruby's scythe, and he didn't hesitate as he moved forward to ensure that it would work. With a swing he scraped the flat of his blade over the flat of the scythe's head and slammed it into the haft. He'd done so in such a way that the flats of the weapons were on top of each other with Asta's on Ruby's but so that the top part of his sword slide under the haft so that it lodged his sword in the crook of the scythe causing the weapons to lock up.
Ruby didn't even have time to process that their weapons were locked before it happened and Asta kept his spin up. He had the raw strength on her as well as the stability of the ground, so she had no way to stop him from spinning her around with their locked blades. She held on as best she could but the speed and the items in the room meant that Ruby had to let go after she was slammed through a giant corkboard thing that was propped up in the room, cursing herself for letting herself get disarmed as she was tossed away.
Asta grinned as he kept the spin up as Ruby crashed into and then through a plywood cubicle wall and the top of a cheap plastic desk behind it to crash out of sight. Only then did Asta stop as he was facing the windows towards the street, the abruptness of the stop sending Crescent Rose flying off the end of his sword and through the window with a crash. The scythe continued on and hit the brick wall of the building opposite before it fell down to the street below where Ruby wouldn't be able to retrieve and continue fighting.
Ruby heard this as she hit the ground, which like the floor above was mercifully carpeted, and bounced off it, bursting into her Quirk to protect herself and fly away before reforming and landing in a 3 point stance on the ground as she grimaced from the bruises she could feel forming on her body. She'd made a real mess of the situation by charging recklessly after Asta and the girls and lost her weapon in the process, Schnee was not going to be happy about this.
As such Ruby knew that she had to try and rectify it and she would do that by beating Asta. She may not be great at hand to hand, but she could do it and all that training with Blake and Yang over the summer was about to really pay off, she knew it.
With a leap, she burst at Asta as he finished his spin a little dizzy from going too fast. He shook his head as he saw Ruby in her red tornado shooting at him, so he swung the sword to hit her, but she showed her Quirk control by arching up and over the blade before reforming and twisting in the air to kick Asta in the side of the head with the heal of her boot as she past him.
The blow took Asta by surprise and staggered him a moment thanks to the heft of her combat boots as Ruby bursted again to get away and then reformed, turning to face Asta and land on her feet as she looked at him intently to determine her next move. She was panting from the effort and Asta didn't look too phased by it as he straightened and smiled at her.
"Damn Rose, you really got some skills there." Asta said his head smarting, but he'd taken worse from Sister Lily's Quirk and his own training so a simple kick to the head wouldn't bring him down. "Really know how to use that Quirk in combat."
"I could say the same about you Asta." Ruby said with a smile. "But I am going to beat you now."
With that she bursted forward again and at Asta. Asta just grinned more as he set himself and raised his sword for a downward strike at Ruby. He may have missed last time but he was coming off a spin so he was a little off balance, that wouldn't be the case this time. No, this time something completely unexpected happened.
What happened next was something that neither really got and those watching didn't understand either. To Ruby she realized that she had to get around the blow so acted on instinct while in her burst and evaded him, but she felt the burst split up which was new to her. For Asta it was even stranger as he saw the burst break into three smaller ones with two going around his sides and one just missing the blade as it went over it and his head to evade him entirely. Then they reformed behind him.
"Ok that's new." Ruby said stunned as she reformed with a twist in the air and feeling a little weird before she landed on a smooth, varnished, wooden table that she proceeded to slide along as she faced Asta who had turned to her a look of surprise on his face. "I swear I've never done that before. I just wanted to evade you but couldn't with the speed I was going at, so my body acted on its own, I think."
"Well, it was cool but how much longer can you keep it up?" Asta asked. "Because my limit is my stamina and it's still there."
Ruby grimaced at that and knew that he was right. Quirks were physical features as well and there was only so many bursts she had in her before she couldn't do it anymore and she was already nearing her limit while the bruises she had from a moment ago weren't helping her at all. She had to end this fast, and she got an idea.
"Long enough." Ruby said as she stopped sliding on the table as she leant forward and began to run on it and at Asta the moment she could. "That's all I need."
As she reached the end she leapt off and bursted again to fly at Asta. Asta was now more wary of her and waited as she arched up so that this time he hit her when he swung his sword at her. However, the moment he did, Ruby dove trusting that the sword was as heavy as it looked to dive under it, just missing the tip of it, before bursting around Asta once again to throw him off and then shooting upwards to the ceiling as Asta missed.
Midway to the ceiling Ruby reform and twisted so that she was upside down and bent her knees to slam her feet into the ceiling with enough force to crack the plaster there as Asta followed through with his miss. Then, as she absorbed the impact and bent her knees she pushed off the ceiling as hard as she could, adding to the cracks she'd caused there, and at Asta's back as hard and fast as she could before bursting with all she had and diving straight at him going for a hard collision to take him down.
Unfortunately for Ruby, Asta had seen this out of the corner of his eye and spun as fast as he could bringing the flat of the blade up to meet his attacker with a yell of defiance. He'd always wondered what would happen if he used the flat of his sword on a transformation class Quirk and now he'd learned at least what it did to Petal Burst.
There was a loud, gong-like, sound as the flat of the blade slammed into the front part of the burst as Ruby had no time to evade it due to her reckless dive. Ruby was so dazed by the hit that she didn't have time to yell as she was forced out of her burst in an explosion of rose petals that showered Asta in them showing that the crown of her head was on the flat of the blade as it canceled her Quirk and then tossed back and towards the ceiling.
That wasn't all though, Ruby may not have Petal Burst active anymore but the nature of it, the speed boost it gave her, was still there on her body only now it was doubled as it was reflected back. It seemed that hitting Petal Burst with the flat of Asta's Anti-Quirk sword not only ended the Quirk's activation but rebounded it's core trait only without the whole swirling red tornado that Ruby made when her Quirk was active.
What that meant for Ruby was that she was reflected back at twice the speed she'd dove at. She barely had time to process that she'd failed as she flipped once in the air before she slammed back first into the ceiling at the same spot she'd pushed off and the combination of her new speed and the weakening her dive had caused ensured that she crashed through the ceiling showing how weak it was to create a Ruby shaped hole in it.
The crash slowed her momentum down, but she was still moving as she arched up in the room above where she'd faced Asta before she began to fall down, still dazed, and on a collision course for something in the room she was now in. That thing was a very shocked Weiss Schnee.
Nero and Noelle had done what Asta had said and quickly checked out the 10th and 11th floors, ruling both out without any issues before making their way past the 12th floor as Asta tossed the scythe thing off his sword and onto the 13th floor as they left Asta to finish off Ruby. Clearly he had her well in hand, or at least could hold her off, so they had to hurry as there weren't many floors left and they didn't know where Weiss and the bomb were.
Turned out that they only needed one more level as they hit paydirt when they reached the 13th floor and opened the door to see the figure standing there. Slowly, the girls walked into the almost completely empty room as they kept a wary eye on Weiss who was standing just past the center of it with her sword out and by her side in her left hand and a series of active glyphs behind her. The glyphs were surrounding the bomb in a protective shield that glowed with a blue light indicating that she'd used hard light Dust to reinforce her glyphs.
"So, you pesky heroes have made it, I guess it was too much to hope that Rose was competent in dealing with you though as I don't see the brash loudmouth with the annoying Quirk so I can presume that she's at least occupied him." Weiss said as Nero and Noelle cautiously made their way deeper into the room, on guard and looking around as they did. "That is good at least, he's the one I might actually struggle against."
"I see you're only making glyphs to protect the bomb." Nero said as she and Noelle made sure to put some distance between them. "No traps or other nasty tricks in store. Is this some limit for Schnee."
"Oh, she can do those too, that hereditary Quirk of the Schnees is annoyingly powerful and versatile." Noelle said her anger boiling at what she was seeing as she knew Weiss well enough to know what this meant. "But she's not which means that she's looking down on us, assuming we can't best her as we are. Damn it Weiss, do you really think that lowly of me to treat me like this."
"Of course, I do Noelle." Weiss said with a laugh getting a little into the villain role, but she was also trying to help Noelle in her own way and with Noelle the best way to do so was to attack her extreme sense of pride. "You didn't use your Quirk in the assessment, so I know that you still lack any control over it. Powerful as it may be, without control you're like Midoriya, all bark with little to no bite. At least he seems to have some way to adapt as he tries to get control, not that I expect much from him after his match against Bakugo, but you don't."
"Are you going to point out that she's disrespecting you as well?" Noelle snapped looking to Nero. "She's not taking you seriously either but not laying out traps for you too."
"Why, she has a point." Nero said with a shrug. "My Quirk requires physical touch to work, and she can strike me down with that sword and support glyphs before I reach her so why bother pointing it out. I'm only good if you can both hold her off and allow me to get close which require fine Quirk control. One on one I'm no match for Schnee at the moment."
"Honest I see." Noelle said.
"Look Noelle I don't know what your Quirk is or what issues you have with it but you've got to use it." Nero said seriously never looking away from Weiss and using Noelle's given name to make a point. "Right now, you're our only hope of winning this as Ruby has Asta occupied for who knows how long. We're both going to be Quirk Knights, maybe even teammates one day, so we have to start now."
"What are you…" Noelle began but Nero cut her off by continued to speak.
"I'll be honest with you; I really dislike your attitude." Nero continued her words going to be harsh, but Noelle needed to hear them. "You shame your linage and tarnish the memory of the first Wizard King with your attitude but you're young and prideful so that could explain it. Prove me wrong, prove me that I'm making the right choice now in putting my faith in you, prove yourself and your name that you are worthy of being here Noelle."
"You're right." Noelle growled as she reached into her bag and pulled out a full water bottle to Nero's surprise as she hadn't expected that. "You should know how to talk to your betters Nero, but I want to be a Quirk Knight, I want to serve like my parents and siblings, I want to prove them that I'm not a failure. They may have exiled me to U.A., shown their scorn by not allowing me to even try to get into Shiketsu, but I will prove them wrong."
"That's it Noelle, show me." Weiss said as she grinned and leveled her sword and pointed it at Noelle. "Show me that you've improved with Hydromancy."
Nero blinked at that and looked to Noelle who's face was a mix of anger and arrogance as she raised the water bottle at Weiss. So that was what her Quirk was called, Hydromancy. Nero got a feeling she understood what it could do and watched as Noelle squirted the bottle to send out a squirt of water from it.
However, before it hit the ground she raised her other hand and took control of it so that it stopped in midair. Noelle then mentally reformed it into a ball in the air as she brought her arm back and then thrust her hand forward to blast the water right at Weiss's still smirking face.
Noelle Silva, Quirk: Hydromancy. Noelle can mentally control any source of water within her range which is currently unknown but it's defiantly not small. She can technically use it offensively, defensively and even increase the amount of water she has depending on the amount in the air but due to her control issues the more she brings in the less control she has but she can't turn it off very well short of being knocked out. This is why she's seen as such a failure by her family, great power levels and no control is not a good recipe. There are other reasons for Nozel's actions towards her, but he can't speak on them.
It all looked good until it got a few feet from Weiss when it suddenly veered off to the side at a near right angle and splattered against a nearby pillar. Nero blinked again because that definitely looked like it shouldn't have happened but by the look on Noelle's face it was normal for her and she was pissed as hell at it.
"I see that it's still the same." Weiss said her smirk growing. "Can't hit the broad side of a barn even from this range, not that you've ever seen a barn in your life that is. Such a shame Noelle, such a waste of your great power and potential that you have as a member of House Silva."
"Shut it Weiss." Noelle said as she repeated the process only for the miss to go to the other side this time though it veered off in the same fashion.
"Er…" Nero said unsure what was going on.
"Damn it." Noelle said as she kept trying but the water was going to either side of Weiss without hitting her until the bottle was empty prompting her to toss it to the side in frustration. "Why can't I hit anything."
"Well, that went about as I expected." Weiss said as she flourished Myrtenaster and tensed to charge along her glyphs and strike both girls down in quick succession to get rid of them. "Still got no control Noelle, a shame but don't worry you'll get there one day and then you can unleash your power properly. Until then, though, you will always lose to me."
"You want my power then fine Weiss, I'll give it to you." Noelle said thrusting her arms out as she felt for all the water around her and located it in the water coolers and pipes that ran through the floor and walls and began to pull it to her. "I won't let you win this. You'll…"
Before Noelle could finish there was a crashing sound from below them that broke her concentration and the floor between them erupted upwards and outwards as a black and red clad figure was thrown through the floor and arched in the air before falling right towards a shocked Weiss. Weiss quickly realized that it was Ruby and dropped Myrtenaster just in time to take her assigned partner to the chest, the force of the blow staggering Weiss back and into her glyphs as she instinctively wrapped her arms around Ruby's chest with her hands falling onto a pair of soft things that were a surprising handful.
"Rose?" Weiss asked shocked as both Nero and Noelle stared at the other girl who was sagging in Weiss's arms her head lolling and eyes unfocused with several small tears on her costume and a trickle of blood running down her face from her scalp. "What happened and where's your scythe?"
"Through the window, Asta got it out of my hands and tossed it away." Ruby said in a slow, slightly off, voice as she tried to get her head to stop spinning while Nero and Noelle looked to the hole and then back at Ruby still trying to process what had just happened. "Tried to fight without it, got a hit in but he's better at weapon combat."
"I can tell but, um, why were you thrown through the floor?" Weiss asked as Asta came into the room to survey the strange scene before them. "And why are you so out of it?"
"Tried to burst down at Asta from the ceiling but he hit me in the head with the flat of his sword." Ruby said as she finally got herself somewhat steady though she was sure she'd need to see the nurse after all this was over. "Not sure much after that until I ended up here, wherever here is."
"You're back in the room with the bomb and I had to catch you." Weiss said getting a little annoyed at her partner for this exercise. "So, it seems that you got beat by running off, not a surprise, you shouldn't try to do everything yourself."
"Er what happened?" Nero asked Asta.
"I hit her with the flat of the sword when she had her Quirk active." Asta said with a shrug as Ruby finally seemed to get a grip of what was going on. "It ended her Quirk and then reflected her back at twice her speed through the ceiling, so I came up via the stairs to capture here but this seems better as we can win now."
"Must be the reflection aspect deciding that as speed is the core of Rose's Quirk that's what was reflected." Nero said looking at the girl and the damage to the floor. "But damn she must have been traveling at some high rate of speed to cause that."
"Yeah I think that's it." Ruby said as she finally got things to stop spinning, though her head really hurt and she wasn't sure how much longer she could remain conscious for, and looked down to notice something. "Um Schnee, does this make us even?"
"What do you mean?" Weiss asked confused. "Are you delirious now Rose? You did take a blow to the head after all."
"Your hands." Ruby said. "They're, um, somewhere I don't think that they should be. What was it you said, something about as a woman I should know not to touch a woman there though I think this, like then, was a complete accident so it's ok."
Weiss looked over Ruby's shoulder, even with the heels she fought in she was only just taller than Ruby and noticed what she was holding. That explained the softness and she flared red as she let go of Ruby entirely causing the girl to stagger forward and moved to the side while trying not to think of how much of a surprising handful they'd been. Rose's clothes certainly hid them well, Weiss had to admit that.
"It was an accident but ok I can see how it can happen at times, so I forgive you for your own indiscretion yesterday." Weiss said trying not to think of what she'd just been holding. "Get your head back in the battle, you're not unconscious or captured so you're still in it. Can you fight without your scythe?"
"Yeah my sister and dad are both experts at hand to hand." Ruby said raising her fists though her body swayed a little as she did as she was still feeling the effects of the blow Asta had given her. "So, I can fight without it but not too well. You'll have to take the lead Schnee, and, um, I'm sorry for running off, I shouldn't have done that and paid for it."
"Look don't get me started on how childish, dimwitted, and hyperactive you are, to say nothing about your fighting style which clearly needs some work if you got bested by someone without the weapons training a Huntress has." Weiss said. "You're impatience didn't help but I suppose that I can be a bit difficult to work with at times and I did squander a chance to get rid of two of the other team by taunting Noelle so we both need to work on things. However, if we're going to work together and win this and continue to do so going forward, I will be nicer if you quite trying to show off, alright?"
"I'm not trying to show off." Ruby said still a little hazy at things but seeing the slight line Weiss had given her and taking it. "I just want you to know that I can do this, that I can be a Huntress, that I'm worthy of being here and how I got here. I don't want to let Ozpin down after his recommendation."
"Rose, you're fine ok, you got a damned recommendation to U.A. from the top Huntsman in the nation and not only that you passed the recommendation exam to get in." Weiss said as she picked up Myrtenaster. "Stop doubting yourself or feeling like you have to live up to whatever you feel like you have to live up to. You earned you spot here just as I did and that's what matters. Show it with your actions, alright?"
"Um…" Ruby said unsure how to deal with that.
"Now let's deal with these three." Weiss said. "Asta's the only threat with them so I'll handle him. Take care of Nero and Noelle, you can handle that."
"Yeah, I got that." Ruby said as she set herself. "Did Silva use her Quirk?"
"She tried but she showed how she still needs work." Weiss said. "She's no threat anymore. If there is someone who doesn't deserve to be here in this room it's her."
"That is, it Weiss, you want my Hydromancy then fine I'll give it to you." Noelle said finally reaching her breaking point as she found all the water and in one thought took control of it and began to pull it towards her. "There's more than enough water here."
"Um Rose, did you shut off the water mains?" Weiss asked nervously as the water coolers exploded, the water shooting up from them and arching towards Noelle as there was a sudden rattling sound from the pipes that fed water to the kitchenette and toilets. "You know, like I told you to do."
"No, I didn't hear that." Ruby admitted. "Why?"
"Because Noelle's Quirk allows her to take mental control of all water in a certain range around her and I don't actually know what her range is." Weiss said as the pipes burst off causing a fair amount of damage where they burst from as more water to shot from the taps and toilets to join the cooler water as it all formed a large, now growing, ball of water before Noelle that was rippling as she held her arms out in front of her and obscuring the teams from each other. "And the more she has the less control she has."
"Oh, this isn't good, is it?" Ruby asked her eyes wide. "That looks like a lot of water."
"Shut it, I'll show you the power of a scion of House Silva." Noelle roared as she pushed her power into the water to sent it at the Huntresses and immediately lost complete control of it.
The ball of water was too big for Noelle to handle, not that she had a great handle on it as she was pissed off at the moment, and more kept flowing towards it from the burst pipes so rather than sending it at Weiss and Ruby it seemed to explode backwards and engulfed Noelle. All she had time to do was take a deep breath and try to fight it as her control vanished and the ball of water rose from the ground. Thankfully Asta and Nero both dove to the sides to avoid it just in time as the Huntresses stared in shock at the ball.
"Stop it Asta!" Nero yelled looking to him from the ground as water kept flowing to it causing the ball grew more and more while Noelle struggled inside it but all that did was keep the water flowing while sending out blasts of water from it as well. "Only you can!"
"Right." Asta said but before he could a blast of water flew at him, and he instinctively got his sword up to block it which proceeded to reflect it at twice the power and right at the ceiling and tore a hole in it that the now massive ball of water began to shove itself through thus making it progressively bigger. "Woops."
The other were now moving as more and more spurts of water shot out, some slamming into Weiss's glyphs around the bomb causing them to crack and then break when a second spurt hit them thus striking the bomb and blasting it away. Weiss was desperately creating glyph shields as she tried to avoid the blasts while Asta was slashing them, and Ruby was using short bursts to avoid them though she was closing in on her limit and the blow to the head she'd taken wasn't helping things.
Only Nero had no defense to it, so she was just doing her best to dodge them as the glass shattered in the windows from the water and the hole in the ceiling grew as the water ball expanded and pushed its way through it. The entire time Noelle was still struggling and it was making the whole thing worse.
"We've got to save…" Weiss said as she tried to get a shield up but was a shade too late in forming it and the powerful blast of water shattered the glyph as it tore through Weiss's Quirk before slamming into her chest and sending her backwards to slam into a cracked but as of yet unbroken window that she proceeded to break with her body and fall out of the building.
"Schnee!" Ruby yelled and instinctively burst after her to dive through the window in a vortex only a second after her teammate.
"This isn't good." Asta said as the ball got stuck in the hole before it blasted all around itself to force through it and destroy most of the ceiling in the process and raining debris down on them. "What do we do?"
"Get outside and down to the street." Nero said as they heard Noelle scream as she used all her power to try and force the water away from her which caused the water burst from around her above them destroying all the windows there, but her Quirk was running wild now and it just reformed as she got her breath and continued to grow once again. "She's lost all control of her Quirk and will destroy the floors. Where the hell is All Might?"
"He didn't stop Bakugo and Midoriya even when it looked like the might kill each other." Asta said as he ran towards the window that Weiss had gone through. "Likely he's letting this play out as well to give us the experience of dealing with this or something like that."
"That's not great but we can stop it." Nero said as the water ball above them began to push on the remaining floor and ceiling of the 14th floor cracking the latter and showing they didn't have much time. "Trust Schnee or Rose to catch you and then do what we did to the robot. You need to hit that ball to disperse it and then a tap of that sword on Noelle should be enough to nullify her Quirk and bring her back to normal."
"Got it but what about you?" Asta asked as he ran, and he saw a part of the 14th floor ceiling fall and strike Nero on the right shoulder staggering her and cutting her there as it destroyed her dress's strap.
"I can heal myself, go, I'll be fine." Nero said her own plan in mind. "Trust me."
"Already do." Asta said as he threw his sword back so that it struck a piece of ceiling that would have hit Nero in the head and leapt out of the window.
Nero grimaced in pain as the blood ran down her right arm and upper chest but pushed forward as she made her way to the Ruby shaped hole there. The rest of the ceiling to the 13th floor was now falling all around her as the ball of water began to fill the whole 14th floor and part of the 13th before it finally broke through to the 15th and pushed down back into the 13th. The top two or three floors would be utterly destroyed by Noelle, but Nero couldn't focus on this as she staggered and dove for the hole that Asta had made with Ruby's body in floor in front of her.
She just made it through something struck her on the left calve on the way, but she ignored it and the pain it caused as she fell head first through the hole. As soon she was through and in the air of the 12th floor Nero flipped forward in the aid with what little grace she had to try and land on her feet. She just managed it, but it was still a good 10 foot fall and she landed hard on her feet with a crack as her right ankle broke from the impact and she fell onto her back with a scream of pain that got louder as her injured shoulder hit the ground as well.
It was just pain though and with an effort Nero rolled her body to the side to make sure that she was clear of anymore debris falling on her and kept rolling until she was under a table leaving a trail of blood behind her in her wake. Only then did she get a sense of her injuries and with a hiss of pain began to heal them and make sure that her dress didn't fall down when she stood and expose something she shouldn't expose.
Nero knew she was nearing her limits, again, but she would see this to the end even if she passed out afterwards. They would save Noelle and win this, that was what a team of Quirk Knights did, she just had to trust the others could do that as she set to work mending her broken bones and the cuts on her body.
Weiss was dazed from the blow to the chest and bruised but still just about ok as her glyph had absorbed most of the force thus preventing her from breaking her ribs. Unfortunately, she'd then been thrown through a wind so her back from her shoulders to just above her waist was cut up from the glass and she new her white outfit was now stained red with her blood as she felt the wetness there.
Still, that somehow wasn't the worst part of her current situation. That was reserved for the fact that she'd been blasted out of a window 13 stories up and had been stunned enough that she couldn't focus on a glyph at the moment. That didn't bode well for her as gravity took over and she began to fall to the ground with the only saving grace being that the angle of the blast back and the two barriers in her way ensured that she didn't crash into the building opposite the one she'd been in for this exercise.
Still, Weiss wouldn't let this be the end and tried to create a glyph behind her to land on at least but as she did a flash of red came flying out of the window and flew down to her. She just blinked at that before Ruby reformed above her and grabbed her in a bear hug in midair as they fell.
"I've got you." Ruby yelled as they began to fall together. "Trust me, I can get us down safe."
Weiss had no option but to do so as Ruby suddenly burst again and dove straight to the ground, her spiral now red and white with a trail of red and white rose petals in their wake for some reason. Ruby herself hadn't really thought about her plan, she just wanted to save her partner and dove out after her to grab her and then use Petal Burst to burst to the ground safely before pulling up and skimming the ground for a moment so that she knew that she was safe. Only then did Ruby right herself in her spiral, reform and landed on her feet as she held Weiss.
For her part Weiss blinked in confusion and a desire to avoid doing that ever again as it was a really weird experience. Still, it had worked, and they were on the ground safely only there was on slight problem. Ruby's hold on her had somehow changed while they were in Ruby's burst together and now she had Weiss in a full bridal carry as she stood on the ground before the sound of the windows on the 14th floor exploding outwards drew their attention back to the building.
"Rose, you, um, can put me down." Weiss said as Ruby held her in what was Weiss's first experience of a princess carry.
"Huh, oh right, sorry." Ruby said as she lowered Weiss to the ground and steadied her, her right hand slick and was shocked to see red blood on it as she pulled away from Weiss and that was when Ruby noticed that the entire back of Weiss's outfit top and skirt was stained red, and it was spreading to her front as more and more blood was absorbed by it. "Um, Weiss, are you ok?"
"It's just lacerations, I'll be fine." Weiss said with a wince of pain as she finally started to feel it, but she pushed it to the side as she sure it wasn't going to kill her and looked up at the building. "We've got bigger issues to deal with."
"Yeah what's going on with Silva?" Ruby asked.
"She's lost control and that means all the water is collecting to her and growing as her Quirk runs wild." Weiss said. "We need to stop her; we need All Might."
"Someone catch me!" A voice yelled up and they saw Asta leap out of the 13th floor as the windows on the 15th floor exploded out above him showring broken glass over him as he began to fall to the ground. "Nero's got a plan."
"Rose?" Weiss said as she grimaced in pain from the wounds on her back and raised her sword that she somehow hadn't dropped despite everything. "Can you get him like you did with me?"
"I can try." Ruby said as she leapt up burst for a second and then it spluttered in a burst of rose petals. "Nope, not happening."
Ruby's Quirk had failed her as she reappeared a few feet off the ground. She fell down to land on her feet before she staggered forward and fell to one knee and raising a hand to her head as she blinked away the blackness creeping into the edges of her vision. It took a second, but she realized that she wasn't going to be able to stay conscious for much longer as her attempt to save Weiss had exacerbated her head injury more than she'd realized.
"No, I'm at my limit as it is and that blow to the head was worse than I thought." Ruby said her voice now strained as Asta yelled in the air he was falling through above them. "I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to last, sorry."
"Fine, I got this." Weiss said giving Ruby a pass given all that was going on as Weiss formed a large glyph though she knew that she was also nearing her own limits and the back wounds weren't helping her but she made sure that the glyph was under Asta so that he landed on it with a crouch. "You've taken too much damage Rose."
"Thanks." Asta said from above them as he knelt on it and Weiss lowered it as fast and safely as she could but didn't dispel it as she brought it next to her. "We've got a plan to save Silva."
"Shoot you at Noelle, I figured." Weiss said as the roof blew off and they all stared at the massive, out of control ball of water that was now there and moving to the street, streams of water adding to it as blasts shot out to other buildings around them at the same time causing massive damage to the area around them. "That should work. We need to prioritize saving her right now though why All Might isn't here is really strange."
"Agreed so do it." Asta said.
Weiss just nodded and used her sword to funnel gravity Dust into the glyph to turn it black as she angled it up and looked to where Noelle was and saw that she was barely struggling in the water, so they were in dire straights now. Still, she took a second to ensure that the shot was definitely on target.
"Can you make it?" Ruby asked as she continued to kneel on the ground and fight the blackness in her vision while squinting up at the ball of water that had Noelle in it.
"Can I?" Weiss asked back and then reversed the gravity to shoot Asta at the ball of water. "Of course, I can."
Asta shot at the water and formed the rend in the air, grabbing the handle of his sword and drawing it in a smooth swing as he roared and slashed into the water as soon as he was in range of it. The moment he hit it his sword ripped through the water and caused it to burst and rain down upon them. Then he thrust the sword forward to tap the point on Noelle right above her breast to fully end her Quirk use before he tossed the sword away causing it to vanish as it fell to the ground and caught Noelle in the air as he reached her.
He had her and she was safe, but they were about to fall to the ground and needed help to avoid dying. That was where Weiss came in as she ran after them despite the pain she was in.
The situation was such that they couldn't focus on the time or the battle trial, Weiss needed to save Noelle and Asta and so she did just that as she ignored the pain in her back and the fact that she was well past her limits and raised her hand as she ran. Instantly she created a glyph in the air at an angle that Asta and Noelle slammed into thus stopping their fall, Asta repositioning himself to take the hit, before they slid down the glyph and onto another below it where they stopped and Asta let go of Noelle causing her to roll over onto her chest as he flopped onto his back on the glyph and panted there.
Weiss came to a stop, arm still out, as she lowered the glyph to the ground panting as she did before dismissing her glyph and dropping the pair a few inches to land on the now wet ground. Only then did Weiss let it all hit her as she fell to her knees in the street and Myrtenaster dropped from her limp hand.
"Alright I didn't die, thanks for those glyphs Schnee." Asta said as he got up and roared his survival before he turned and look down at Noelle who was still on the ground. "Hey, Silva…"
Noelle just laid there and looked up at Asta as she almost cowered in anticipation of what she expected to hear. She'd completely lost control of her Quirk, caused a huge amount of damage, more than even Midoriya had caused, and almost killed herself and probably the others in the process. She'd actually been on the brink of unconsciousness inside the water when Asta dispelled it and then made sure to nullify her Quirk so that she couldn't do any more damage, all while in the air before grabbing her. Weiss had helped, she'd seen the glyphs, but it had all been Asta in the end who'd saved her.
As such Noelle knew what was about to come from Asta's mouth as he addressed her. She didn't have the energy or even the right to get annoyed at Asta for touching her, he'd saved her life, and besides, she was more afraid of what he was about to say. This was it, what she'd dealt with her whole life, the scorn, the reminder that despite her status, her House, the expectations of her legacy, and despite the power of her Quirk she was still a total failure fit only for ridicule. That was why she lowered her head and closed her eyes as she waited for the mocking she was fit.
Noelle just braced herself for it, and she'd deserve it. She'd royally failed and so now it was time to be mocked like she had been basically all her life.
"You know…you got a damned powerful Quirk there, like it's absolutely amazing how strong it is."
Noelle winched and then blinked as she looked up at Asta's surprising words to her, her pink eyes meeting Asta's green ones to see how serious he was and he was being dead serious in what he'd said to her. For the first time that she could remember someone was complementing her power without any mocking and of all people it was this brash lowborn orphan who'd just saved her life after she'd been the one to put herself in danger in the first place.
"I'm jealous of you, you know, like I thought I was Quirkless until only 10 months ago when it finally manifested but you, all you need is some training to get it under control and you'll be amazing." Asta continued. "That's what U.A. is for and you're not the only one in the class who had to do it so it's not a bad thing that you need a little control. That is what school is for after all."
Noelle's eyes went wide as she didn't know what to say to Asta's words though she felt her cheeks flush at them as he honestly and sincerely complemented her. She'd never had this before and for the first time the shreds of confidence began to form in her heart, as well as another seed that was planted at the same time, but she wasn't aware of that one just yet.
"Yeah Noelle, Asta's right, U.A. will help." Weiss called out as she felt her injuries and the strain of overusing Glyphs begin to catch up with her and knew that she didn't have much energy left. "I think it's a good thing your brother Nozel sent you here, you'll learn away from that lot, away from the legacy the Silva's have at Shiketsu and grow to be your own person. U.A. will help you there, I know it."
"Schnee's right, once you get yourself under control you'll be nigh on unstoppable." Asta said at this point any recollection that they were actually in a battle test gone from their minds. "That's all you need and we're all here to support you in that regard."
"L, little inset…A, Asta." Noelle said finally finding her voice as she raised herself up onto her knees though her voice fell quiet when she finally said his name aloud.
"Ah man I'm even further behind now." Asta complained as he looked down over his wet cloths as water still fell down on them showing just how much Noelle had been using with her out of control Quirk. "Now that I know what your Quirk is and how powerful it can be I'm going to have to work extra hard to keep up with you Silva. Now come on, we'll do our best together and go plus ultra, how does that sound?"
As Asta spoke his last part he lent forward, held out his hand and smiled at Noelle as she rested on her knees. She had tears in her eyes but the support he was showing her, the trust and confidence he had, moved her and she realized for the first time since Nozel had told her that while he couldn't stop her becoming a Quirk Knight he could still exile her from Shiketsu which he did by sending her to U.A. that she could truly be a Quirk Knight.
Of course that exiling also came with a ban from joining the family's Squad, but right now she didn't care. That was because here, away from her family and at U.A. and with the aid of Asta and the others she knew that she could do it.
"Yes, we will, I look forward to working with you, Asta." Noelle said as she took his right hand in hers and rose to one knee and allowed him to help her to her feet with her eyes closed and head bowed as she added something that she'd only say to a close friend or someone she would serve alongside as a Quirk Knight. "And because of that please, from now on, call me Noelle."
"Hey, if you're all done with this emotional growth stuff does this mean that we win because I'm barely conscious at the moment and not sure how much longer I can last." A voice called out causing Asta and Noelle to turn as soon as she was on her feet again, she was still holding his hand so quickly let go of it with a flush to her cheeks, and looked up to the shattered windows and twisted remains of the top of the building, as did Weiss and Ruby from where they were kneeling on the fake city's street. "Also why hasn't there been an announcement on anything?"
They stared in shock as they saw that the bomb was now half in and half out of the building. Standing next to the bomb with her left hand on it and dried blood caking her right shoulder and upper arm, as well as her lower left leg, was Nero. She'd healed herself up and basically crawled up to the 13th floor to touch the bomb and then call out to the others from her position once she'd touched the bomb and used it to get to the edge and look down at them but her cut up feet were sealed to the floor for extra stability.
"The bomb has been secured with time remaining!" All Might's voice suddenly boomed out from the speaker system. "That means that the heroes win!"
"Good now can someone call those robots, that would be great." Nero said as she unsealed her feet and backed away from the window before she turned and slid down with her back against the bomb as she stopped fighting to go on and just sat against the bomb as she lost consciousness.
"We lost?" Ruby asked still on one knee as her own battle with unconsciousness ended now that the trial was over, and she got one more word out before she fell to the side as the blackness at last claimed her. "How?"
"Well, that sucked." Weiss mumbled her adrenaline gone so she couldn't keep going but she did manage to turn her head to the side as she pitched forward. "I went through all that for nothing."
That was the last thing that Weiss got out before she hit the ground to lie on her chest on the wet road unconscious. Ruby was several yards behind on her side on the ground and up in the room where the bomb had been Nero was sitting against the bomb her head lolled forward and arms to the sides.
Only Asta and Noelle were still standing as they blinked and looked around the utter destruction but there really wasn't much that they could do but wait for All Might to come and sort this out as they lacked the first aid skills to help but at least they'd won which was good. Asta did wonder what the rest of the class had thought of their insane battle.
The class was just staring in slack jawed shock at the screens in the control room, well most of them did as Todoroki and Bakugo weren't gaping but either pondering the battle or internally raging at what he'd seen. That had not been how any of them had expected the battle to go when it began.
That was because the battle had started normally to them with Asta barging around that some thought was a dumb tactic but as Momo explained a Quirk like his made it made more sense to act like that as it was a simple but efficient strategy to win. Meanwhile Ruby and Weiss did the right thing in splitting up as they had no strong defense against Asta's sword so best to use Ruby's speed and the range her weapon gave her, if it was ranged, to best him and land a fatal or crippling blow.
They were of course stunned by Ruby's weapon, it was almost like something out of a video game, but the girl wielded it with ease and when she first attacked from upside down, revealed that it was also a gun, and then got away without an issue those who doubted her status as a recommended student had those doubts erased. The girl was really something else when she applied her full arsenal and she almost got the drop on Asta, Nero and Noelle for a quick victory but, as Momo pointed out, she'd likely made enough noise for Asta to blocked her attack.
Despite this failure Ruby showed she had a backup plan in her flight to the wrong floor to lead Asta away from her and thus avoid the threat he poised to Weiss. Still, it was also the right thing for Asta to follow her as he was better suited at fighting Ruby one on one whereas Nero and Noelle might have a chance against Weiss if they worked together.
The whole thing looked a bit chaotic but Momo and to an extent Todoroki and Ida at times were showing that this was all within what should be done though none of them knew that it was actually more accidental than planned. Regardless, it was all going well even when Asta and Ruby engaged in their duel that showed that he could match her in combat and even disarm her. However, even without her weapon Ruby showed her Quirk control and reinforced her recommended status with how she moved around Asta to land a hit or avoid him for a good few moments.
Momo explained that it was a little like Bakugo's blasts, as Ruby herself had pointed out during the first battle, because she clearly had an exceptional understanding of physics and her own Quirk and employed both fully to stand her own for a few moments with a Quirk that wasn't the most offensive against Asta and his ability to nullify Quirks. They were even impressed with how Ruby used all the space available, showed off a new facet of her Quirk, and even pushed off the ceiling to try and beat him.
Unfortunately, that was where it all began to go downhill for Ruby. It started when he reflected her through the ceiling which got a few winces from the room, and she had to be caught by Weiss that brought the battle back to the full picture.
Even with Asta and Ruby's duel, they'd seen the engagement between Weiss, Noelle, and Nero and during it Momo finally revealed what Noelle's Quirk was as she pulled the water bottle out and explained that Weiss, as a Huntress who was trained in using her sword, was conserving her Quirk as she didn't need it to face Nero and Noelle. The taunting was likely just to play the part, according to Momo, and to get Noelle to use her Quirk to use up her water bottle. That was reinforced when Noelle kept missing to everyone's surprise and really confused them as it wasn't necessarily a lack of control.
That lack of control came a few moments later, after Ruby was blasted through the floor, and started the final moments that they all were shocked at. The moment it became clear that Noelle wasn't going to get out or that Asta couldn't reach her from inside several of the class tried to get All Might to intervein, but he didn't simply saying that he could, and would, but he wanted them to figure it out.
What they didn't know was that All Might had actually been ordered by Aizawa not to intervein in this battle in particular unless it was clear that Silva might die so he let it go on as they watched the true extent of Noelle's Quirk manifest. Even Todoroki was stunned as it surpassed his own raw power while Bakugo's wounded pride didn't get better at the sight of Noelle's sheer power though at least she had no control over it.
Still, it was an unreal amount of power that ended up destroying two full floors and causing a lot more damage to the 13th one and the surrounding buildings while also sending Weiss through a window. They saw Ruby save her though the white rose petals were really strange in deed, and land with her before Asta followed them out of the building. They watched Ruby fail and fall to a knee and Weiss save him as her entire back was red from the blood there, but she clearly pushed through it to help Asta and then save Noelle as Momo explained what she thought the plan was now.
Through all this they saw what Nero was up to and winced at her injuries though were even more confused when she healed them as only a few knew that she could do that. It seemed that her Sealing Quirk, which Ida told those who didn't know what it was what it was called, was really a lot more expansive than anyone had realized.
That wasn't all though because the moment she could move, and throughout the final instance with Asta rescuing Noelle and that odd moment they, Nero pushed past the pain she was clearly in to crawl and haul herself to the bomb to win as the rest of the class watched all of this. Momo was sure that Nero would be the MVP, but she clearly needed the nurse as she touched the bomb with less than a minute left to win it, but All Might waited for the moment between Asta and Noelle to end as he alone could hear it and knew it needed to happen before he declared the results.
It was only after Nero called out to the others and asked if her team had won that All Might made his announcement that the match was over and that the heroes had won it. Only then did the fight leave the three girls who'd been injured in the match, though it was harder to see with Ruby beyond Quirk overuse and the blow to the head, and they all collapsed unconscious at the same time.
Now they just stared at the screen as the robots, and All Might reached the scene to help the girls onto stretchers and take them away while All Might looked on. He then said something to Asta and Noelle that they couldn't hear and all three returned to the observation room with All Might saying that the recaps would come later for that match and sending the 4th one on its way right away as they needed to move on with the exercise due to time constraints for Hero Basic Training.
After that the rest of the matches were uneventful compared to the intensity of the first one, the swiftness of the second one, and the insanity of the third one. They were still worth watching to see how their classmates did, however, as there was a lot to learn from them as well.
The fourth matchup pitted Team H as the heroes against Team J as the villains and was another win for the heroes as Tokoyami's Dark Shadow Quirk blew into the room with a lot of flash and power to destroy a lot of tape protection and occupy both Kirishima who's Hardening Quirk withstood it. However, he wasn't able to contain it and that caused Sero to leap in to use Tape to restrain Dark Shadow and by extension Tokoyami as well.
That had clearly been their plan all along as Tsu used the distraction to slip in using her Frog Quirk to stick to the ceiling and then drop down onto the nuke to win. Both her and Tokoyami were the MVPs there as it was a good, solid battle with great teamwork from both teams.
The fifth matchup was the first win for the villains as Momo showed her brains by blocking the door with concrete, having Mineta make traps of his balls around the building and the bomb and slashing the power. This forced Kaminari to use his Electrification Quirk to show them the way while Jiro used her Earphone Jack Quirk to navigate them if they wanted to win it.
Unfortunately, Kaminari fell into a trap and was stuck on the balls and Jiro couldn't break through the door or wall with her heartbeat, using her boots' speakers to blast it at her obstacles until the time ran out and they lost. Momo was naturally the MVP of that match though Mineta had done well despite constantly ogling Momo's breasts and bottom whenever he could.
The final matchup pitted Aoyama and Ashido as the heroes against Sato and Koda as the villains and was another villain win. Part of that was the poor teamwork by the heroes after Ashido melted holes in Aoyama's cape and set a bad tone from the start.
They did make it to the room, but Aoyama soon hit his limit with his Quirk's side effect and was caught by Sato who'd boosted himself with sugar at the start and then Koda used a flock of pigeons with his Anivoice Quirk to attack and occupy Mina long enough for Sato to catch her and end the battle. That also got Koda the MVP of it as the training came to an end.
With that done All Might swiftly ended the session and ran off right at the very end leaving the rest of them confused with what he'd done. Only Izuku knew that All Might was at his limit and needed to let the transformation drop to his weakened, normal, state. All Might managed that just in time and rested in a side room before he reviewed the footage of the battles, as would Aizawa, and make his own reports on them.
The rest of the class just shrugged at that and turned to shower and head back to the classroom to pack up and head home for the day. Many would wait for Midoriya, Nero, Weiss, and Ruby though as they wanted to make sure that their classmates were ok as their first full day of U.A.'s hero training came to a close.
Well there it is, the Quirk Knights have defeated the Huntress in the battle trial, convincingly as they knocked both Ruby and Weiss out, and Noelle has finally shown her Quirk. She still has a long way to go of course as she did cause a lot of damage with her lack of control but this is a good start and her attitude has finally had what it needs to start improving though Weiss is still got a little ways to go but her big wake up is coming soon don't worry. It was one hell of a battle though where Asta really showed his offensive capabilities but Ruby held her own well and knows where to improve when she recovers. I'd thought about having All Might throw Asta, it would have been fitting as he has the same English voice actor as Yami (and Arthur Watts actually), but this was a better way even if All Might probably should have interfered, but he was ordered to let it play out just in case and only intervein if it was life or death. I could have added commentary to the battle, but this was getting long by that point, so I decided just to do an overview of it and the other battles to end the chapter off. There really isn't much more to say about the battle and the aftermath of it as they didn't get their feedback just yet (I'll leave the MVP up to y'all to determine if Nero deserves to be the MVP or not) and the rest of the day went by without incident after that one. That is all I have for y'all so I will leave this chapter off here.
