Here is the sixteenth chapter in this series released in keeping with my self-imposed upload schedule for this series. The chaos of the press coming in and the Class Rep election is over but there was one idea before it that stuck with some of our aspiring heroes, Noelle's need for a support item. Well, no time like the present for some of them to get acquainted with the Development Studio so time to head there before the next major hero lesson. What could possibly go wrong with a nice trip to the core of the Support Course? That is all the administrative stuff I have and while there are no questions that need answers or guest reviews that need responding to, though I will say that yes the hint is there and the seed will properly sprout soon, so I will leave this off here. Do keep the reviews and PMs coming as I always like hearing how much y'all are enjoying my work. That is it for this pre-chapter note which means that it is time to sit back and enjoy the sixteenth chapter in Black RWBY Academia.
Disclaimer: I own nothing related to these three great franchises.
Chapter 16: Development Studio
"Alright it should be this way." Ruby said as she led the group around a corner in one of the other buildings that made up U.A.'s main and iconic campus. "Yang said that this was where it was so it should be…there."
Ruby pointed and they looked and saw the sign on the wall about halfway down the hallway saying 'Development Studio' in English for some reason with the l in development a wrench and the o in studio a gear or bolt of some kind that most of them couldn't identify it. Even all that wasn't the biggest surprise or oddity, no that was reserved for the fact that the door, the only one in the corridor, looked to be a reinforced steel door that wouldn't have looked out of place on a bomb shelter. Clearly whatever went on there wasn't safe.
However, the group had to go there so they headed to the studio. It was the day after the class election for Class Rep, which Midoriya and Asta had won with Yaoyorozu and Ruby coming second, and the interruption of the press getting onto campus during lunch. That chaos had been sorted by Ida and afterwards Midoriya had nominated him as Class Rep, following Asta standing down due to inexperience, and the class had accepted that so now he was the Class Rep with Ruby and Yaoyorozu as the deputy reps though as they had a lecture on hero laws afterwards no other officers had been decided.
That had been the excitement of the day before, and why they'd not been able to come here then as the press's trespassing had caused the studio to be locked down until today. As for why they were here now was because at lunch Weiss had suggested to Noelle that she get a support item from the Development Studio to help control her Quirk which she'd agreed with as the right item could at least focus her power thus aiding in her control issue. As such she had decided to come here today after training, still in her Quirk Knight costume which was her normal everyday out of school clothes, to get that sorted.
That said she wasn't alone because Ruby, Weiss, Asta and Nero were with her as well. The latter two actually had to be here, they had campus jobs to help cover the costs of their tuition at U.A. and today's assignment was their first in the Development Studio. Due to that they'd changed into their PE kits after class and were now here to report for work which basically meant helping out the teacher in charge of the studio, a pro hero called Power Loader, with whatever he needed.
As for the Huntresses, both had provisional support licenses of some kind and needed to get them registered so had chosen today to sort it out. Well that and Ruby was the only one of them who actually had some idea as to where the studio was as her sister had the same license that she had so came her to work on her own Huntress weapon pretty frequently.
Noelle didn't actually mind that they were all here with her, especially Asta as she was growing strangely comfortable in his presence though she'd never tell him that, but even with being fine with others around her she still had her normal cool attitude to her. This was about getting her something to help out to prevent what had happened in her battle trial and that was all.
"Alright then let's go." Asta said hurrying forward towards the door. "I've got work to do."
"Asta, no running." Noelle said as Asta ran down the corridor and to the door. "You…"
Before Noelle could finish, and as Asta pulled level with the door while turning to face it, there was an explosion from within the room that blew the doors off their hinges. All of them looked in shock as smoke, fire, and metal doors blew out and at Asta as none of them could do anything to help him in time as the concussive blast of air lifted him off his feet.
However, before he could be thrown too far by the force of the blast, or hit by the warped metal and fire, a jet of pink slime, at least that's what it looked like, shot out through the gap and slammed into Asta's chest. The force of the slime hitting him blasted Asta back and into the window opposite the door with enough force to crack it.
The pink slime stayed on Asta and splattered over his spread-eagled form as he stuck to the wall with the slime over him unable to move his eyes wide and mouth open in shock. That alone would have been enough to surprise them but what had hit Asta was just the start as a larger ball of slime followed it and this one had a girl with messy black hair that just past her ears inside it and hit the ground where it stuck and wobbled for a few moments but stayed fast as the smoke and fire washed over it but didn't do any damage to it. Finally, one of the doors fell on it and bounced off to the side to lie on the ground as smoke billowed out of the room.
The four girls were staring in surprise at what they'd just seen, even Nero was startled by it and she rarely showed her emotions, as they blinked at what had happened. As they stared a coughing sound came from inside the studio while smoke continued to billow out of the room and covered the area in front of the door so they couldn't see much as a male voice came from the studio.
"Damnit Hatsume, what have I told you about experimenting without checking what might happen before you get to work?" The voice asked. "You know not to mix volatile chemicals together like that."
"It's alright Mr. Power Loader, sir." A voice said from the ground and the girls got even more surprised as the smoke finally cleared to reveal a second girl, this one with pink dreadlocks and wearing a black tank top, work pants, and boots on the ground covered in soot but smiling despite her situation. "Failure is just a setback to learn from on the way to an invention and I need to make as many babies as possible for the Sports Festival so that all the Support Companies can see what I can do."
"Few, good thing my gel is great for working when Hatsume is experimenting, that first year really knows the meaning of this place even if her methods lead to more explosions than normally occur here." The other girl said getting their attention to see that the slime, or gel it seemed, was parting and falling to the ground where it melted away to reveal the girl standing there unharmed. "See, everything's fine Mr. Power Loader. I protected myself from the blast like I always do."
"Sally, not everyone has your Quirk, we were just lucky that you two were the only ones who stayed back today." The man, Power Loader apparently, said. "The least you could do when Hatsume is experimenting is cover the things that are valuable or volatile with it to protect them."
"Sure, whatever, just so long as I can keep working at the same time." The girl, Sally, said as everyone stared at her. "I'll help out."
Asta was still in the gel on the window and couldn't move or breath, but he could hear, and he heard that it was a Quirk. As such he activated his own above him and the rent in the air appeared there and his sword fell out and down hilt first in front of him. It slammed into the ground to get their attention and causing the Sally girl to turn to him as his sword then fell so that the edge hit the gel that encased and pinned Asta to the window and the moment it did the gel burst around him, vanishing into the air as it did and Asta fell to the ground to land on his feet as he took deep, refreshing, breaths of air.
"That was close." Asta said as his sword vanished, and he caught his breath. "I thought I was a goner there."
"Did, did you just create a sword that destroyed my gel?" Sally asked her eyes wide completely ignoring the fact that Asta had almost died because of what his sword had done. "That's incredible."
"Your gel?" Asta asked confused.
"Yeah, that gel that hit you, that's my Quirk." Sally said without any note of apology for what she did in her voice. "Hatsume blew up her latest experiment and I was in the blast zone so I had to cover myself in it to save myself, shot some extra out to hit the doors but they'd been blown away by that point so it must have hit you."
Second year Support Course student Sally, er just Sally as she apparently has no family name, Quirk: Gel. Sally can secrete a pink gel-like substance from her skin that she can then mentally control and manipulate as she sees fit. She can even change the viscosity of her gel while it is under her control, and it can remain for up to an hour after she's placed it somewhere if she doesn't mentally dissolve it. The versatility and capture capabilities of her gel would make her a great hero candidate, but Sally likes to experiment too much to be a hero though she has been known to have a loose relationship with the word ethics when it comes her work.
Before anyone could react, the girls at this point were in so much shock that they couldn't move as they watched what was going on unfold in front of them, Sally had rushed forward to Asta and began feeling him up without any shame. That really got to Noelle, and she let out a yelp and it didn't help that the girl was wearing, well what was she wearing because it didn't look like something that should be worn in a workshop. Especially one that had just blown up.
That was because Sally was wearing a maroon crop top with a ruffle to it over her breasts, which were large enough to be noticeable at least, and a pair of matching mini shorts with the sides cut so that her hips were exposed and a pair of black knee-high boots and that was it. Well, that and a pair of red half framed glassed over her inquisitive red eyes.
If the girl was wearing a hero costume it would either be in violation of the exposed skin law or just skirting it, but she was clearly a Support Course student, so it didn't matter. Still, despite the revealing attire Sally's skin was unmarred and actually looked really smooth in a way Noelle could help but envy.
"Er yeah my Quirk allows me to nullify other Quirks with a sword I create using it." Asta said nervously as the girl who he didn't know was now pressed up against him and feeling all over his body with her hands as she replaced her gel in pinning him to the wall while Asta couldn't help but notice a pair of soft, decently sized, things pushing into his chest. "Well, the edge of it does at least."
"Really, that's amazing, it's kinda like Eraser Head's Quirk then." Sally said as she suddenly licked Asta's neck before biting down on his neck for some unknown reason causing Noelle to yelp again. "You're your skin and blood taste normal enough so got to get more data so I must experiment on you. Just think of all that I could learn by looking over your DNA to isolate your Quirk Factor and incorporating it into items. Just let me dissect you a little, I promise I'll use anesthesia."
"You're freaking me out!" Asta wailed as Noelle went into shock and Nero was about to move to try and get the crazy girl off Asta, Ruby and Weiss were too startled to act at the moment, when Power Loader noticed what was going on as Asta complained. "Please don't experiment on me."
"Sally!" Power Loader snapped as he walked out and over a still prone Hatsume who for whatever reason hadn't bothered to move this entire time. "What have I said about that harassing other students? Do you want another harassment or ethics complaint? You may be the best second year, possibly the best in the course, but no support company will hire you because of your failure to understand ethics and personal boundaries that other people have."
"But they just get in the way of progress." Sally said with a pout though that was more because she didn't like ethics as she'd found a company that was more in line with her desires and wouldn't complain about her disregard for certain moral standards but hadn't mentioned it due to said company not being properly registered. "All I want is to experiment on what interests me and make items from it."
"Which you can do with willing subjects who consent to things within the bounds of the law." Power Loader said his eyes narrowing. "Or who give their bodies to medical science, and you well know that. Your talents can only protect you so far if you keep this up."
"That's not fun though, live subjects are so much better." Sally said with a sigh though she was still pressed against Asta who was clearly uncomfortable with his hands out to the sides to show that he wasn't touching her at all but with her attire there wasn't much Power Loader could do as a male teacher. "Hatsume, can you get your senpai off who I presume is one of my campus job students who's been assigned to the Development Studio today. With that outfit that she insists on wearing in here I can't really do much."
"Huh, oh sure Mr. Power Loader, sir." Hatsume said finally getting up and walking around the man to grab Sally's arm. "Come on senpai, I have more work to do, and your gel could be useful to stabilize things as there will probably be several more explosions before I'm done."
"Aww but I want to experiment on the muscly guy with a cool Quirk." Sally said as Hatsume seemed to all but drag her back into the studio as Asta shook where he was. "You get that, right?"
"Some of it sure, understanding a client's body can help a lot with making items but I don't work with Quirks the way you do, mechanical babies are the way forward." Hatsume said as they disappeared into the studio. "Now make me some gel and put it…"
"Sorry about that." Power Loader said to Asta as Asta slowly peeled himself off the wall and fell to his knees on the ground as he processed what had just happened. "Those two are highly talented Support Course students but with a brilliant minds like theirs there is often some level of eccentricities involved as well that have to be navigated. You must be Asta, Nezu told me that you and, I believe he called her Nero but her actual familial name is Swallowtail, are assigned to work with me for a few hours as part of your enrollment jobs."
"That's fine, just a little freaky but I'm always willing to help out so long as it doesn't hurt." Asta said as he slowly recovered and got to his feet and rubbed the bite mark on his neck. "And yes, I'm Asta, Nero is over there with Noelle, Rose, and Schnee. The latter three came to see you for various reasons."
"Huh, oh, yes I think I know why two of them are here, I'm expecting the two Huntresses track students from your class to register their support licenses this week after all." Power Loader said as he turned to look at the four girls who were still just staring at what they'd all seen. "Welcome to the Development Studio, how can I help you?"
As the man turned Asta took a moment to study the teacher he would be working under today. Power Loader was a short man wearing only a pair of pants and work boots with what looked like metal contraptions on his hands that ended in pads over his fingers that were actually there to protect people from his Iron Claws Quirk and so that he could work without them getting in the way, not that Asta knew that.
To complete the look, he had a weird yellow helmet that looked a bit like a cross between a dinosaur's jaws and construction equipment over his head that left only his mouth, lower jaw, eyes, and his shoulder length red hair visible as the lower mandible part of the helmet was currently down. It was certainly an interesting look and fit with his title as the Excavation Hero though for Asta he was more focused on what he had to do for the man right now than anything else.
As for the girls they were finally able to snap out of their stupor, or in Noelle's case horror and some other feeling she didn't understand and look to the pro hero which also helped Noelle ignore the female bite mark on Asta's neck. It was Noelle who broke the silence.
"Um, Mr. Power Loader, sir, if I may ask." Noelle began as she asked the question she needed to know first though why she needed to know it she wasn't sure. "Why was that girl dressed like that? It doesn't seem particularly safe for a place that makes support gear, and which just had an explosion though she did seem unharmed."
"If anyone else in the Support Course wore that I'd agree and stop them but Sally, she doesn't have a family name by the way and she's here on scholarship because of her talents, is different." Power Loader said as a small explosion came from the studio though this one seemed more controlled followed by a frustrated yell from who they presumed was Hatsume. "She actually has to wear something like that to ensure her safety in the studio, as uncomfortable as it is to deal with."
"She does?" Noelle asked. "Why?"
"Like Midnight and several other pros, though Sally is not a pro, Sally's got a skin-based Quirk." Power Loader explains. "She can secrete a gel-like substance from her body and then control it, that was the pink stuff you saw when you arrived. It's damned useful and I think part of why she's so talented is because it has allowed her to push the edges of safety limits to achieve her creations, the various ethical issues she is working to understand on aside. As such she actually needs to have as much skin exposed as possible to maximize it and as she's not in the Hero Course, though with her abilities she actually could make it there if she'd wanted to, she's not got the same restrictions that you lot have."
"Oh, I see." Noelle said understanding it even if she didn't like it and wanted that crazy girl nowhere near Asta, because she valued his safety as a classmate of course and nothing else. "Thank you."
"Of course." Power Loader said as he looked over the girls and noted that one was in a PE kit which meant she had to be the Nero girl and the others in what looked like Hero Costumes but by the cuts and styles they came off as more Huntress or Quirk Knight ones and seeing as one of them had a sword on her hip it was likely the former with her at least. "Now, how can I help you?"
"I'm here to work." Nero said simply.
"I need a support item to help focus and improve my control over my Quirk." Noelle said surprising Power Loader as it was rare for a Hero Course first year, he was certain they were as he'd not seen any of them before, to already admit he or she needed an item this early on in the course. "So, I was told to come here to see if that could happen."
"I'm a Huntress track student who needs to register her personal support gear license so I can use the studio to make modifications and improvements on my sweetheart." Ruby said patting Crescent Rose were it was on her back in its standby mode. "And do routine maintenance which I think she needs right now."
"Similar to Ruby." Weiss said. "Need to register my support license as a Huntress and a place to store the Dust I get due to the restriction on it in my neighborhood."
"Ah I see well come on in then." Power Loader said, and he led them into the Development Studio.
"Er, what about the door?" Asta asked as they stepped over the twisted remains of the metal panels that made up the door and through the empty doorway. "What's going to happen with it."
"Give it a moment." Power Loader said as he made his way to his desk on one wall and sat down at it to hit a button. "Had this installed years ago because of that issue, explosions are normal here though we've had more in the last few days than all last semester thanks to Hatsume."
The quintet were confused until they heard a mechanical whirring sound and turned to see a new set of what had to be steel blast doors move out of the wall and along tracks into place and close there as if nothing had happened. They blinked at that before looking around and marveling at the Development Studio as the doors were just the first part of it. The whole studio looked like a top-secret lab complete with work benches, all manners of equipment, and a door opposite them that led deeper into the studio that was no doubt used for testing what they Support Course students made or had specific equipment.
Along the wall above where Power Loader was there was a series of monitors that have various designs and information on them. As they took it all in Power Loader tapped a few buttons to report the latest explosion and summon the other teacher for the course as she'd be of assistance he felt before he turned back to the Hero Course students.
"Right, I'll start with the pair who are here to work." Power Loader said as he hit a button and the doors to the room opened again, this time normally and without any signs that the explosion had caused an issue to the mechanism. "Asta, you're a strong lad, take those doors to the recycling dump in the woods, one of the older students will sort out what can be reused and what not. Do it one at a time and then come back."
"Yes sir." Asta said as he turned and left to the studio to heft a door and was able to fully lift it onto his shoulder with some strain before moving off towards where he knew there was a service elevator from his work two days ago providing that the buildings all had the same layout. "Damn these are heavy, great for strength training though."
"Huh, didn't expect he'd actually lift it to his shoulder, thought he'd ask for a cart or something." Power Loader said as he closed the doors before turning back to the girls. "Right Nero, what is your Quirk? I've not had time to look it up due to the whole press thing and trying to manage the new first years like Hatsume."
"Sealing." Nero said. "I can lock and unlock anything, fix things that have laceration damage or cracks, seal my hands and feet to things, mend wounds and bones, that sort of stuff. Theoretically I might even be able to reattach limbs if there is time though I've not had to do that yet."
"Interesting, that's actually really useful." Power Loader said as he pointed to the door that led deeper into to the Development Studio. "Through there is the testing room, we're done for the day so it's safe to enter, go there and see what damage you can fix. If you get it all done before your allotted time working here is complete or there are things that you can't fix, mainly the craters as we have to specially repair those, then come back for your next assignment. That will likely cleaning equipment."
"Understood." Nero said as she turned and walked to the door which opened and a ginger woman with her hair in a high ponytail who appeared to be in her late 20s stepped out and moved to the side to get out of Nero's way as she went through the door that closed behind her.
"Ah, Miss Code, thanks for coming, I didn't interrupt did I?" Power Loader asked the woman.
"No, I was just going over my inventory and seeing what I needed to make more of." Miss Code said in a bubbly tone. "What did you need me for?"
"We have a Hero Course student who needs an item for focus and control of her Quirk, so I figured you'd be the one to talk to as that's your area of expertise." Power Loader said looking to the girls remaining. "Um…"
"Silva." Noelle said giving her family name as she'd not done so when she first told Power Loader why she was here.
"Silva…wait Silva?" Power Loader asked looking at her. "As in the notable Quirk Knight House Silva?"
"Yes the same." Noelle said with a nod. "Is that an issue, sir?"
"No just a surprise that's all, don't think I've ever seen one of your family at U.A. before unless it's to visit and even then it's a rare thing." Power Loader said. "Your family usually attends Shiketsu and almost exclusive recruits from there from what I gathered."
"Oh, so you're a Quirk Knight track girl, cool." Miss Code said with a smile. "I've worked with your branch before, a lot in fact, so I've got plenty of interesting items and designs."
"Um…" Noelle said as she looked over the woman who did not appear to be dressed for the location, which seemed to be a running theme given Sally's attire, not sure what to say.
Miss Code was wearing, of all things, a light purple dress with sleeves that came to her mid forearms and darker frills around them and the hem that was cut in a way to leave a wide opening at the front and up to her hip showing off her long legs that were clad in even lighter purple thigh high stocking. She completed the look with off purple, low heeled, ankle boots that matched her hem color, a black shawl thing that completely covered her upper chest and was tied at her throat with a white ribbon, and a brown belt that had a bulging brown bag dangling from it and resting on her left thigh.
It looked like the woman was going out for a nice day in town not working in a Development Studio at U.A. It was highly strange and clearly Miss Code saw the look in Noelle's eyes.
"I can tell you're confused so let me explain who I am." Miss Code said. "I'm the teacher for the Support Course students who don't want to work on hero support items. Mainly I focus on useful household items that will make people's lives easier, security systems, and special gear for heteromorph bodies that."
"Oh, I see." Noelle said. "I guess there is a market and need for it."
"Precisely and I have many helpful items, all patented, that can help there." Miss Code said with a wide smile as she opened the bag she had on her and began to rummage in it for something. "I can even…"
"Code, no need for a sales pitch right now." Power Loader said his tone reproachful. "Save it for your next one to Detnerat. There is a student here who needs your assistance, that is your focus as a member of staff."
"Right, they often buy my patents, but I'd never work for them." Miss Code said as she took her hand out of her bag. "Sorry, got carried away for a moment."
Noelle, Ruby, and Weiss all blinked at this. Clearly even the people here who didn't do hero support items had a few eccentricities to them though at least with Miss Code it just seemed that she had a flare to promoting her items.
"But I'm in the Hero Course." Noelle pointed out. "So how can you help there if you're mainly focused on non-hero support items?"
"Oh well I have a costume license as well so I can make items for heroes and alterations to costumes which is what support items are classified as." Miss Code said. "If it's small I'll note it on your form and the costume company will sort it out, big alterations take a few days though as I have to send those off for approval."
"It's not a change to my outfit itself." Noelle said. "Just an item to help focus my Quirk and allow me to avoid getting out of control."
"Excellent and what is your Quirk?" Miss Code asked. "If I know what you can do then I will have a baseline for what item would work best."
"Hydromancy." Noelle said. "I can mentally control water within my range, and I don't actually know what my range is. My issue is that if I start trying to control more water than I can handle I will lose control and my Quirk runs rampant. I also have accuracy problems but those are second to my control issues."
"Ah I get it; I've got a few things that would work on that front." Miss Code said. "Come with me, we'll run some tests with your Quirk and see what fits best."
"Ok but, um, we kinda need to be somewhere where there's a finite source of water and which can be locked down just in case." Noelle said with a slight blush. "Kinda had an incident the other day which is why I need an item and I'd rather not repeat that within the school."
"Wait you were the one who destroyed two whole floors of a building out in Ground Beta?" Miss Code asked. "That was some impressive power I heard."
"It was out of control hence the need for an item." Noelle said. "But yes, that was me."
"Now I get it." Miss Code said. "Alright, come along and I'll get you situated."
"Oh ok." Noelle said looking to Power Loader.
"Code may not be a hero, but she is a fully qualified support gear maker and arguably the best in the nation at making non-hero related items that assist with everyday use." Power Loader said. "Detnerat and the Schnee Dust Company have tried multiple times to poach her, but she won't leave U.A. You're in good hands with her Silva."
"In that case ok." Noelle said figuring that she just had to go with it and see what happened as Miss Code smiled at her and turned to lead Noelle out of the room through the same door Nero had gone through but to a different part of the studio where she'd be able to help Noelle to find the right item to make her and help Noelle she would. "Thank you."
"Right, now you two." Power Loader said turning to the girls and holding out his hand. "Licenses please, I'll check them to make sure they're in order and enter them into the system. Pine is already recorded so with you two all Huntsmen track students will be set."
"Right here you go." Ruby said as she reached into a belt pouch and pulled out her support license and handed it to Power Loader. "That should cover what I can do."
"Hmm." Power Loader said as he took it and looked over it, holding it gently in the pads at the ends of his fingers and looking it over noting that the license gave the girl's name as Ruby Rose, her Quirk as Petal Burst, and her Huntress weapon a Sniper-Scythe. "I see. This is a Patch Support Works personal license that is typically issued to Huntsman and Huntress path Junior High kids at Signal Junior High. It allows you full access to our resources for the sole purpose of work on your weapon including any additional alterations to it as well as bullet manufacturing due to the nature of the weapon. You're not the only Huntress track student with one of these, I believe Yang Xiao Long has one as well."
"Yang's my sister." Ruby said as she took her license back and put it away. "I actually got mine at the same time as Yang, but I've always been more mechanically inclined than she is and good with this stuff, so they let me take the exam 2 years early."
"Ah that makes sense, those gauntlets of hers are impressive though." Power Loader said as he entered the information into his computer. "Alright you're all set though if I may ask, can I see your weapon? I've never seen a listing like that, and I've seen a few strange ones in my time given how creative Huntsmen and Huntresses are with their weapons."
"Oh sure." Ruby said as she backed up and Weiss stepped to the side as Ruby pulled Crescent Rose off her back. "Here she is."
With a flick Ruby turned Crescent Rose from her standby more into full scythe mode. It changed with a series of smooth mechanical motions though with a hint of scraping to them this time around to reform into the 5-foot tall red and black scythe that Ruby now held in her hands. Weiss had seen it before but still it was an impressive display, made more so by how easily Ruby carried it, and Power Loader was equally impressed though his trained eye noted some wear on it already.
"Not the first large scale changing weapon in the class, Valkyrie's hammer can change into a grenade launcher but that is the first scythe I've seen, at U.A. at least I've seen one in the field a few times." Power Loader said looking the weapon over and not fazed at all that Rose referred to her scythe as 'she' as Huntsmen and Huntresses often gave their weapons names and genders for their own reasons. "Though there is some wear on it, and I think I heard some scraping when it changed as if the metal took a beating recently."
"Yeah I need to do some work on her actually so I was hoping I could do a little maintenance right now it that's ok sir." Ruby said as she looked over her sweetheart. "Asta got his sword in her crook during our battle trial the other day and then tossed her out of a 12th story window once he'd disarmed me, I know it's embarrassing that I let that happen, so she's a little beat up from it. Going to need to disable her to figure out what needs to be replaced to get her back to tip top shape."
"Need a hand?" A voice said in a slightly creepy tone, to Ruby at least, as suddenly Hatsume's face popped up behind her without warning, seriously they'd lost track of the girl and she'd managed to sneak up on Ruby, with stars in her eyes as she wrapped her arms around Ruby's waist from behind causing Ruby to shriek in shock and Weiss to stare at it. "That baby looks impressive and just my style if a little streamlined but you I could actually learn from that. You Huntress girls always have cool toys, so how does she work? Damn, you're a lot stronger in your core than you look, I can feel your abs and they're damned impressive, so I take it you used core strength it…"
Hatsume had gone from simply hugging Ruby from behind to actively feeling her abdomen up as she pressed her back to Ruby's which Weiss really didn't like while Ruby was forced to note that Hatsume wasn't unnoticeable in a certain department. It was strange that Hatsume could tell as she wore thick work gloves that only had the index fingers free, but she seemed to be able to do so with Ruby as she ran her hands over Ruby's abdomen before beginning to go up to a certain part of Ruby's chest as she spoke.
While it was clearly not sexual in nature, Hatsume was literally impressed by Ruby's musculature and wanted to notice it more, it was still too much for Ruby who acted on instinct and burst into her Quirk and shot up towards the ceiling in a red vortex that scattered rose petals before reforming and swinging Crescent Rose and burying the point of the crook into the ceiling and hang from it and away from the slightly insane support girl. Unfortunately, by using her Quirk, Ruby also got the attention of Sally who suddenly popped up from behind one of the benches and adjusted her glasses as she looked up at Ruby.
"Oh, wow you can break your body down into rose petals or something like that." Sally said excitedly as she stared up at Ruby who was now dangling from the haft of her scythe. "A transformation class Quirk like that has to have a lot of uses. Can you fly with it? Take others? I want to learn more about how it works. Please let me experiment on you."
"Hey, she's my year Sally." Hatsume called out looking up at Ruby as well. "And that scythe is super cool, she's got talent for sure. Hey, girlie, let's be rivals, I want to see what improvements you can make to that thing."
"What?" Ruby called out confused by what Hatsume was saying. "And no to experiments."
"Aww, just a few, I promise I'll be gentle." Sally said as suddenly she produced a scalpel from god knew where given her attire which she then began to spin expertly un her fingers as she smiled up at Ruby. "I'll…"
"Sally, scalpel away, you know you're not allowed to be near sharp objects when there are others present." Power Loader said sternly. "Hatsume, stop getting into peoples' personal spaces, they don't like it and you need to ask first before you touch someone. If neither of you can learn the rules then I'll ban you both."
"Sorry Mr. Power Loader, sir." The girls said in unison as they turned and bowed to their teacher, the scalpel still in Sally's hand.
"If you two are done for the day then you should go home." Power Loader said. "I'm sure your parents want you back Hatsume and Sally, you may no longer need to do work on campus because you're a second year who's inventions sell, whenever your patents get approved, but you should still take a break and review the ethics code. More of your stuff would be approved and then sell if they didn't skirt them or would violate the Geneva Convention if used."
"Come one that was one time, well maybe two or three times actually, but they were accidents, how was I supposed to know that they could do those things?" Sally asked but Power Loader gave her a look and she sighed. "Fine, I do have some work to do. I need to clean up first."
"Get to it." Power Loader said as Sally turned and headed over to a workstation that she'd been using, her gel was still on it in places, and began to tidy it up. "Hatsume, take some of your failures to the store shed and go home."
"I need to have things ready for the Sports Festival though." Hatsume said but a glare from her teacher shut her up. "Fine but I'm coming in before classes start tomorrow."
"That's fine." Power Loader said and Hatsume went over to a pile of broken gear, some still smoking slightly, and began to load it into a cart next to it. "I will be here an hour before school starts, you can come then to do some work."
Ruby was still startled by all this and remained dangling from the haft of Crescent Rose for a few more moments, impressing Power Loader with her arm strength and the way the crook worked, as she waited for the support girls to leave. After the attention that they'd given her it made sense for her to be cautious.
Only when both were gone did Ruby flip herself up using the haft to do so before she planted her booted feet on the ceiling and with an arch of her back rip her scythe from it and flip with the movement as she fell. She was still in the air when she hit the switch to collapse it back to standby mode and return it to the holder on her lower back before bursting to the ground to reform in a crouch on it completely fine as rose petals fell on her.
"Impressive." Power Loader said. "The strength to do that and Quirk coordination needed to pull off a move like that in a room as she's falling and putting her weapon into standby mode, takes a lot of training to manage that."
"She is a recommended student." Weiss said with a small smile as Ruby got up from her crouch, Weiss may have had a bad impression of Ruby but seeing the girl in action like that really showed Weiss just how talented Ruby actually was. "She may be a malcoordinated dork at times when not doing hero stuff but when it comes to the latter she will show her status."
"Clearly." Power Loader said. "And sorry for my students Rose, they can get quite excitable with new things that interest them."
"I get that, I'm like that around weapons." Ruby said as she stood up. "Just a bit of a shock that's all. Sorry for your ceiling."
"It's had worse and will continue to do so with Hatsume this year." Power Loader said as a little concrete dust fell down and landed on Ruby's head. "Anyway, feel free to set up on a bench and work on your weapon, you can use any tools that here but make sure you ask if you don't understand anything. Also, if you have them, please provide me the blueprints to your scythe next time you are here so that I can have them on file, it will make things easier when it comes to repairs and upgrades. I understand your weapons for the most part but anything overly complex and I can always reach out to Dr. Polendina at Shiketsu, he's the foremost authority in Japan on Huntsmen weapons."
"Of course, thank you Mr. Power Loader." Ruby said with a nod before she hurried away to a free work and clean workbench, returned Crescent Rose to its full form and laid it out there before she went to find safety goggles and the necessary power tools she'd need to fix her sweetheart up. "Ok time to heal you up my dear."
"Right, well that was a bit more excitement than what is normally exciting around here." Power Loader said as he turned back to Weiss. "And you miss, please hand me your license."
"Of course." Weiss said as she pulled out her own license and handed it to Power Loader. "This should cover what I'm allowed to do. It is the same class of license as Ruby's only I got it from a different company."
Power Loader took the license and this time he did raise an eyebrow under his helmet at what he saw. Not only was it the same kind of special provisional support license that Rose had, which was expected, but this one was issued directly by the Schnee Dust Company which was almost unheard of for this kind of license. Power Loader was going to ask about it until he read the information and it made sense, after all Weiss Schnee herself should be able to get a license from her family's company. Still, that did beg one question.
"What is a Schnee doing at U.A.?" Power Loader asked as he handed the license back before putting the information into the system. "Your family is almost as famous as Silva's for their loyalty to Shiketsu. I'll admit having one of your family's rising members here was a surprise, both is unheard of."
"I wanted to forge my own path away from where my family is dominant." Weiss said simply. "And I didn't want to be end up at the Atlas Agency where my sister is a rising star and one of two deputies to Ironwood himself. Basically, I'm here to make a name for myself that goes beyond the Schnee name. That is why I chose U.A., and I also got in via the normal exam not the recommended one."
"Very admiral." Power Loader said though Weiss didn't add that she could only come here if she took the normal exam, and beat an Arma Gigas but that was irrelevant. "I'll make sure to provide you with our Dust policies and storage rules so that you can sort your stores out as I presume you have a fair bit."
"I do expect to have a decent stock, thank you sir." Weiss said as Ruby started talking to her scythe at her workbench and asking it various questions. "May I also stay to work; I'd like to give my weapon a cleaning and examine it to make sure things are working smoothly."
"Of course." Power Loader said as he looked at the sword at Weiss's hip. "May I see it first? Just to look over it, I won't mess with your creation."
"I would appreciate your trained eye." Weiss said with a nod as she pulled Myrtenaster off her hip and handed it to Power Loader handle first. "Any assistance in making my sword better is appreciated."
"Thank you." Power loader said as he took it carefully and then laid it in his palms and brought it up to his eyes to look it over as Ruby started having a full-on argument with Crescent Rose while threatening it with some tools she'd gotten out. "I see, this is fine work Schnee. You seem to have combined the mechanism for a revolver with the standard rapier and modified it to hold standard Dust cylinders that cannel it out for when you need to add it to your Quirk, if I recall how Glyphs works that is. The blade is well honed and protected though clearly better at stabbing not slashing and you've even specially crafted the handle to work for a left-handed user. Impressive. The delicate work needed to manufacture such an item must have taken a lot of time."
"Thank you sir." Weiss said with a note of pride in her voice at the praise as the sound of a hammer striking metal and Ruby yelling followed but the roar of a blow torch filled the air, apparently Ruby's crafting skills were more blunt that Weiss's though why the need for fire was beyond her. "I was wondering if you had special vices, clamps, plyers, and stands, I need them for my maintenance."
"We do, you'll find them in that cabinet over there with the other tools for work in delicate or intricate equipment." Power Loader said as Weiss took her sword back and Ruby started yelling at her scythe for being uncooperative with her. "And if you need help ask Miss Code, she's good with this kind of work and my Quirk prevents me from assisting on such small mechanisms as the one your sword uses but she has deft hands for this kind of work."
"I will seek her out if I need her assistance, thank you for allowing me this time to work on it." Weiss said as she returned Myrtenaster to her waist and headed to the cabinet to look over the equipment while Ruby continued to argue with an inanimate object and seemed to be losing said argument as the door opened. "Now where are the clamps, I need…"
"I've taken the doors to the recycling dump Mr. Power Loader." Asta said as he stood there smiling and panting from his work much to Power Loader's surprise as it was faster than he'd expected.
"I can see that." Power Loader said before pointing to the back door. "Then go and find Nero and help her clean equipment through there."
"Will do." Asta said loudly as he headed to said door while the main one closed.
Power Loader was impressed by the boy's work ethic as he returned to his own work as the Huntress girls worked on their weapons and Silva was off with Miss Code sorting out a support item. These heroes were on top of things it seemed, and Power Loader was interested to see what they would do this year, he felt that there was something different about the first years and he didn't know what. Soon, that would be shown as forces conspired around them for what was to come when they finished their first week at U.A. with the next thing they had to learn as aspiring heroes; rescue.
A short chapter by this story's standards but one that was needed as it shows Noelle getting her item, Ruby and Weiss doing their own work on their weapons, and introduces the eccentricities and worries of Hatsume and Sally, as well as showing where Domina currently is in this story. I wanted to have Sally at U.A. and as a student though she's still going to be Sally and I am sure we will see more of her while she also serves a similar role to Hatsume only for Noelle and not Ochaco though I'm sure the girls will bond over that if they were to ever discuss the crazy support women who like to touch the guys they've fallen for. There really isn't much more to say about this chapter so I will leave it off here, next up is the USJ arc and while I've broken it down into several chapters it's going to be as hectic as ever as I adapt these two great franchises into the MHA canon. If you like this story please follow, favorite (this story and me) to keep up with it and leave a review or PM, your support is what helps motivate me to keep up this work and any questions posed before the next chapter is uploaded I will try to answer. Until next time.
