Here is the twenty-fourth chapter in this story released when I wanted it to be released based of my release process for this series. Alas the time has come where I don't think I can maintain a weekly upload for this series as the real world is starting to kick up for me and my 5th story in a series I began in 2020 is about to start in 11 days' time which will add to my workload so from now on uploads will be a little more infrequent. I will still aim for two per month unless I am away, which will happen over the summer, but from now on I will only be uploading once this story and my two other active stories that involve Black Clover as part of the crossover are ready to be uploaded together as a trio at the same time. That is all I have for the administrative stuff I have for y'all and while there are no questions to answer there are three guest reviews to respond do which I will do now before we kick off the U.A. Sports Festival. Do keep them coming as your support is the best motivation for me to keep producing chapters at this kind of rate.
To KGBeastboy (guest), thank you for your review, support, and suggestions. Bringing in Rebecca was something I wanted to do but was really hard because she's not a major character and her attribute is unknown but she's fun and does help Noelle a lot so I wanted her around and this turned out to be the best way to incorporate her. I'm not sure how much more of her we'll see though but I hope things work out to allow for more of Rebecca and hopefully a mixer style chapter at some point because those were some of my favorite lighthearted Black Clover episodes. As for your suggestions, the first one I can't do mainly because when I write I try not to mess with pre-existing canon even when there is a question as to what causes something because I find that to be presumptuous and a little disrespectful. In this kind of crossover I can tweak some things with the Black Clover and RWBY characters as they're being brought in and need to be slightly altered to work within the MHA lore but an MHA specific character like Kaminari won't be tweaked. From what I understand, his discharge of electricity effectively short circuits his brain if he does too much at once though the reasons aren't explained and I'd rather not create something that isn't canon to explain it and just leave it as what we know about his Quirk. It is certainly different to how Luck and Nora's Quirks will work as he stores and discharges electricity, which makes him immune to electrical attacks as seen by his use in the Paranormal Liberation War, while Luck will actually be able to create electricity though he can't store it nor will he be immune and Nora just converts electricity into power. I'll be keeping it at that though I'm sure once Luck learns of Kaminari's Quirk he'll have some fun testing the limits of it. As for your second suggestion about Augustus, that is something I never thought about and a really good one if I want to bring him in at least as an off page character. MHA never addresses the situation regarding the Japanese Emperor, likely due to the Emperor being such a figurehead that he's got little to no power to the point that he's the most constitution of the world's constitutional monarchs, so completely irrelevant and pointless to use. As such between that and the whole Quirk Wars thing I can probably swing it that the old imperial family died out/was killed (I don't like making fiction characters related to real life ones) and in its place House Kira took over, likely in the wake of other events I'll be getting into later. As a result the current Emperor is Augustus though he won't be Augustus Kira XIII, likely only VII due to it being 200 and not 500 years in this universe. He'll be as powerful as the real Emperor of Japan so I doubt I'll even roast him but it's a good way to incorporate him as I have a way to work in Damnatio (and want to as he's voiced by the same guy who was Aizawa's original English VA) but not Augustus. As for Liebe, that's not a bad idea for him. I'll have to think about how it would work, finite details as to the mechanisms of a body union style Quirk and other things but it's a start. I'd still likely not go down the whole Asta's adoptive brother via his mother route because that's just too confusing and complicated to adapt but I'll think on this as an avenue for Liebe though what he would actually be doing, how he encounters Asta, and all that are still factors to see if he can be brought into the series or not. Do keep reading and enjoying my work.
To Guest (guest), thank you for your review and continued support. Scarlet is the surname of Rebecca in Black Clover so yes it is the same girl from Nean where Marie also lives. As it is the cultural norm in Japan to use familial names to address someone unless they are family, a long time close friend, or romantic partner, I used her surname for her introduction though if she gets more page time her first name will eventually be revealed. As for her Quirk, at the moment I don't know what it is because as a Black Clover originating character the magical attribute that she is naturally born with (this rule applies exclusively to Yuno hence why his Quirk is based off his Star Magic not Wind Magic as the former is his natural birth attribute) is the basis of her Quirk but unlike most characters in Black Clover, Rebecca's attribute still has yet to be revealed and as only Asta is born without magic he is the only Black Clover character in this series who will have been born apparently Quirkless. I wish that Rebecca had a revealed attribute so I could give her a Quirk but she doesn't and I'm not going to assign something not based in any canon to her. Mineta getting his mouth shut is but the first of the many punishments I have in store for that little gremlin, Nero's Sealing Quirk will be rather useful I feel in many such punishments. Yup the White Rose ship is under construction though both need to realize it first and neither can for their own reasons and the training did give me a nice chance to work on that ship along with some more foundations for Astelle. The paperwork is a must, good thing she remembered it or else she might be at a disadvantage in the Sports Festival given what might happen if she were to use the water in the stadium. Do keep reading and enjoying my work.
To AutoHunterJ49 (guest), that is an amusing joke and interesting assessment. Noelle does have a lot of traits of both though she's much more of a tsundere than Weiss and while not afraid of water like Neptune is she does have less control over it than he does with his Semblance, not that he really uses his Semblance. Do keep reading and enjoying my work.
That is it for this long pre-chapter note which means that it is time to sit back and enjoy the twenty-fourth chapter in Black RWBY Academia.
Disclaimer: I own nothing related to these three great franchises.
Chapter 24: Opening the Sports Festival
"It's almost time, I'm so excited!" Asta said with stars in his eyes as Class 1-A gathered in their designated waiting room while the stadium filled up and awaited the opening of the Sports Festival which began with their year today before going onto the second years and then third years over the next two days. "Finally I can beat Yuno and take the lead in our rivalry. I will be the next Wizard King, I know it."
"Well we've trained hard so we should be ready for this." Noelle said as Ashido complained about how they couldn't wear their costumes, they were all in their PE kits, though Noelle did have her item on her hip and filled with water as per her approved request and several in the class wore their own choices in footwear or in Nero's case none. "It's time to put that training to good use."
"True." Nero said from Asta's other side as it was pointed out to Mina that this was fair for all involved in the Sports Festival. "Even if you still can't hit a person."
Noelle just huffed at that but didn't respond as she leaned against the back wall where she, Asta and Nero were all together chatting having congregated there after getting to the waiting room. They'd trained as hard as they could for the Sports Festival but still Noelle couldn't hit a person even if her general accuracy and control when it came to offensively using her Quirk had improved since the USJ attack.
It was frustrating and she was starting to get desperate but she had a few emergency ideas just in case it came to it, she just hoped she'd not need them. Regardless, she really had to put on a good showing in the Sports Festival what with her oldest brother in attendance and no doubt Nebra and Solid watching from home so it mattered a lot for her to get this right. Asta and Nero had worked hard and improved in their own ways so she had to show them that she had as well.
The rest of the class had also worked hard to prepare for the unknown events that were coming their way as they all sat or stood around the room waiting for the moment to head out and enter the stadium. Some were discussing things like Tokoyami, Shoji and Sato were while others where just thinking to themselves or with friends for support. That was certainly the case for Ruby and Weiss who were in a corner themselves as well and were also chatting.
"Do the other years watch from the stands?" Weiss asked Ruby quietly as the class got ready.
"They do, no reason not to, and like us they all have their own class boxes." Ruby said with a nod. "We'll get to as well in the coming days if we want but most chose to watch from home as it's easier that way seeing as we have those days off and need to recover from the events, if we progress that is. That's what Yang and Blake did the first year at least though it was also in part due to Yang losing in the final after declaring that she'd win so she couldn't show her face around her own year for the rest of the festival. Last year Yang made up for that by winning so she celebrated a little too hard and destroyed a club, we don't talk about that."
"I won't ask." Weiss said.
"Yeah we don't talk about it, it was self-defense but still it was rather excessive." Ruby said before pausing for a moment and adding. "Is your sister watching?"
"Of course, she may actually be in attendance in fact." Weiss said with a smile at the thought of Winter being present to support her in the U.A. Sports Festival. "She's one of the two senior assistants to Ironwood, the Head of the Atlas Agency, and the closest to his protégé as the other is a man called Clover who runs their special operations team so he's often on assignment. Ironwood will definitely be in attendance in the box reserved for the other Huntsman Agency Heads and their assistants so she would be there. Atlas may recruit primarily from Shiketsu but they will make us offers and Ironwood at least will probably try to sway some normal track heroes to our track if he likes what he sees."
"Yang mentioned that she and Pyrrha both got offers from all 4 Huntsman agencies after their first year while the others got at least two offers and several classmates did as well so I can see that." Ruby said. "Though I'm surprised that your sister didn't tell you that she'd be here."
"Winter wants me to be more independent and not worry or focus on impressing her during the Sports Festival so she likely assumed that I'd guess that she'd be here and not tell me so that I focus on this which I'll do." Weiss said as Ruby tried to track Weiss's sister's logic and struggled to do so. "I've got to win this after all and show her how much stronger I've become."
"Ha well I'll…" Ruby began before the door opened rather forcefully and the only one in the class not present, their Class Rep, walked in silencing any discussion going on in the room.
"It's almost time so get your game faces on guys." Ida said as he walked in while moving his arms in stiff, slashing, motions that they'd all come to understand was just part of Ida's personality when he was in this kind of mentality. "We're going to enter the arena soon so we should be ready by now and then head out in a few moments so that we are in position in time to enter according to the schedule."
"Alright it's time!" Asta said getting off the wall and pumping his fist into the air. "I can't wait! Here I come Yuno, you'd better be ready."
"Loud as ever I see." Noelle said though it was reassuring to her that Asta his usual self for something like this as the rest of the class got mentally ready, a few who were sitting even got up in preparation while Mineta kept repeating 'swallow your fear' for some reason that Noelle didn't care about. "But you're not wrong, it's time to do our best."
"Well as U.A. students we're…" Nero began before she and any other side conversations that had started up in the wake of Ida's arrival were interrupted by the least talkative member of the class suddenly speaking a single word, a name that was clearly a call out before the Sports Festival began.
"Midoriya."
Everyone turned to Shoto Todoroki as he walked across the room and right up to Midoriya who'd stood when Ida said to get ready so it was easy to approach him. The room was now silent and they all looked at the budding situation as Midoriya turned to Todoroki to respond to him.
"Yeah, what's up Todoroki?" Izuku asked a little nervous as he'd not spoken to Todoroki before today other than whatever you'd call the stuff in the middle of the USJ was and that was a special circumstance so this was their first true conversation. "What do you want?"
"It's pretty clear to anyone who's seen us that I'm stronger than you are at the moment." Todoroki said bluntly, it wasn't wrong but it was pretty rude at the same time. "You can't deny that."
"That is true." Izuku said lowering his head, his control was still nonexistent so he couldn't deny it even if he wanted to. "I won't even try."
"And yet you've got All Might's attention, he seems to be helping you out likely due to the similarities in your powers." Todoroki said which got Izuku to gasp at that as he looked back up at Todoroki but there were plenty in the class who'd already noticed that. "I don't really care about the reasons for it or what's going on, that's not my business, I'm just here to tell you that even with All Might's support, I will still beat you in the Sports Festival today."
That got another gasp from Izuku as he'd not expected it. He didn't know much about Todoroki, nothing really other than the fact that he had a powerful hybrid Quirk the likes of which Izuku had never seen before and was a recommended student who combat wise was probably top of the class at the moment though Asta's Anti-Quirk Quirk was something none of them could overlook, so he'd not expected the call out from the other boy.
Still it had happened and Todoroki was looking Izuku in the eye, his heterochromatic ones meeting Izuku's green ones, and his face was deadly serious. He was straight up calling Izuku out in front of the whole class and making it clear that, at least one some level, he views Izuku as a rival who he had to beat.
"Another declaration of war? What's going on?" Kaminari asked a little worried as Kirishima got up from his chair while Asta bounced off the wall at the same time and began to walk forward. "First that attractive redhead told us about her the transfer stuff, then Class B yelled at us, and now you call out Midoriya, Todoroki. This is getting a bit much."
"Yeah seriously, what' the big deal man?" Kirishima said putting his hand on Todoroki's shoulder as he reached him. "There's no need to pick a fight right before the Sports Festival."
"Come on, we're all classmates and friends so there's no need for this hostility right before we head out." Asta said as he came up to them and moved to stand to the side and face them so that he was looking at the space between the boys. "Sure a healthy rivalry is a good thing, we're all aiming for the top, but there's no need to be so serious about it."
"You're an idiot if you think that we're here to be friends with each other." Todoroki said shaking Kirishima's hand off him and looking to Asta his eyes narrowing as he did. "It may work like that in the Quirk Knights where Squad mentality and support is important but I'm not going to take that path. I'm here to win the Sports Festival, that's all. This isn't a team effort, don't let that or the path you've chosen to walk cloud your judgement."
At that Todoroki turned around to head out as they were about to leave the stadium for the arena and officially start the Sports Festival. As he was leaving though Izuku had had enough time to think on his words and while he respected Asta's statement and Kirishima's support, Todoroki had made a good point so it was time to respond to the challenge that had just been laid at his feet in kind.
"Hold up Todoroki." Izuku said his voice soft but clear though Todoroki kept walking as Izuku continued speaking though he did stop a few paces later before Izuku finished his response. "I can't say I know what's going through your head, only you know that, or why you think you need to make this declaration to me despite being better than me, and I won't deny that at the moment you're stronger."
Izuku paused for a moment as Todoroki partially turned to look back at him. He'd not expected Midoriya to respond like this but the conviction and seriousness in his voice showed Todoroki that he'd at least partially underestimated the spirit of Izuku Midoriya.
"In fact, I'd go as far as to say that of everyone here the only person who can truly challenge you at the moment is Asta and that's because of his Quirk." Izuku continued once it was clear that he had Todoroki's undivided attention. "Silva's got the raw power to match you but she lacks control so at the moment you've got the most potential in the Hero Course that I know of. That's why you got into U.A. so easily."
"Hey, the recommended exam wasn't as easy as you'd think." Ruby called out but Weiss put a hand on her shoulder to let her know that while she was right it wasn't the time though she removed it quickly after Ruby calmed down as she didn't want her hand to linger despite feeling an odd sense of comfort in the contact. "Right, not my place to speak, sorry shutting up now."
"Midoriya, there's no need to be hard on yourself alright." Kirishima said. "Or the rest of us for that matter."
"Yeah, Noelle's got a lot more control, she's almost there and when she is she'll show you just how strong she is." Asta pointed out helpfully causing Noelle to go bright red at the supportive words from Asta and Nero had to grab her arm to prevent a reaction though thankfully no one else noticed. "Plus it's early in the semester, we're all going to catch up to you. Just because you came in at the top doesn't mean that we won't surpass you as soon as we can."
"He's right though and you all know it." Izuku said seriously as Todoroki ignored the other comments as his focus was solely on Midoriya at the moment. "All the other courses, the other Hero Class, they're going to come for us with all that they have because we've already been noticed thanks to the attack on the USJ and they won't hold back. That means that we're all going to have to step up and stand out in the Sports Festival. So hear me now, I'll be aiming for the top too and I'll beat anyone who stands in my way."
The last part Izuku said with all the conviction and seriousness that he had. He wasn't going to back down from the challenges that he was facing today because he knew that this was where he had to stand out and show that he was worthy of what he'd inherited. Todoroki had called him out so he'd rise to it and he'd been looking Todoroki in the eye the entire time he was making his own declaration causing Todoroki to fully turn back to him.
"Very well." Todoroki said in response, if Midoriya wanted this then that was fine with him though he didn't realize that he'd really annoyed Bakugo who tsked in his seat at how no one had mentioned or challenged him in all of this. "This is the Sports Festival and we all want the top spot so come at me Midoriya because I will still beat you."
To the side Asta was just looking at Todoroki as he spoke. Clearly the kid had some serious issues that he'd never properly addressed but as far as Asta was concerned he was his classmate and that made Todoroki his friend and thus family to him. Family looked out for each other and if he could he'd do that for Todoroki during the Sports Festiva then he would do so, on the way to winning it of course.
"Um, well, we should go and get into position." Ida said and that broke the tension that had built in the room thanks to Todoroki's declaration. "It's almost time for the Sports Festival to begin."
The class just muttered and nodded at that, well most of them at least, and slowly rose to follow Ida out of the room. They did so in silence with Noelle and Nero falling into step on either side of Asta once they were in the hallway and heading to their designated entrance into the stadium while Mineta continued to feel envy towards how Asta had managed to get so close to two hotties so early on into their time at U.A.
As they walked everyone was deep in thought on what Todoroki had said because he was right, in the end this wasn't a team even and only one person could win it so they all had to bear that in mind as they made their way to the entrance point to walk out into the stadium when the designated time came. From this point on they were all rivals whether they liked it or not and so they had to be ready for what was to come as the minutes ticked down.
This was the final wait before the Sports Festival was officially opened and they only had to wait a few moments before there was a crackle as the announcement system fired up indicating that the moment was almost at hand. It was clear who'd be on it and that it was time, the students knew it and the fans sure as hell knew it as they began to cheer even before the announcer even began to speak.
"Alright sports fans, make some noise!" Present Mic said loudly and the fans in the massive stadium that housed the U.A. Sports Festival roared to life at the Voice Hero's words. "Media, get those cameras ready and aimed at the field! That's because this year we're bringing you some of the hottest and strongest performances in the history of the Sports Festival, guaranteed! And now it is time to ask the only question that matters before we begin: are you ready? So let me hear you scream for our students as they come on out to the main stage!"
There was a roar from the crowd and this was the cue Ida had been given to start walking towards the light at the end of the entrance tunnel and as he did the rest of Class 1-A followed him as they walked down the tunnel to Present Mic's commentary. The moment had arrived at last; the Sports Festival was finally upon them.
Meanwhile all across the country students' families watched from home or in Asta and Yuno's case the church in Hage, ready to support their kids or siblings, for the most part, in the Sports Festival. At the same time other parties also watched around the country for various reasons and those in the stadium awaited as Class 1-A were the first class to walk out onto the field.
That came a moment later as they all walked out of the tunnel and onto the field. The crowd was now wild with anticipation and the moment they were out Present Mic got right back into his commentary as fireworks went off in the sky to really add to the moment that Present Mic was about to hype up even more.
"Welcome back to the event we await every year, the U.A. Sports Festival!" Present Mic said over the sounds of fireworks exploding and cheering sports fans as Class 1-A and walked out. "This is where up and coming heroes will give everything that they've got to achieve worldwide fame and celebrity no matter the branch they end up choosing to serve! This first group that you see are already no strangers to the stage which is unheard of in for first years at the Sports Festival but you all already know them from their amazing survival of a villain attack that you've all seen on the news. That's right, it's the Hero Course students from Class 1-A!"
"Did he really need to do that?" Weiss asked as they walked out not fazed by the crowd at all though as a trained singer who'd performed a fair few times she wasn't put off by large crowds. "Seems a bit much."
"Meh it's all about the hype, I watched the last few with Yang in them and it was just like this and we've got a great backstory to add to it." Ruby said as some of the class looked nervously around and commented on the size of the crowd. "It just means that we have to rise to the occasion and we will, I know it."
"True and I will, the future Wizard King has to be able to do that after all." Asta said also not fazed by the crowd at all while Nero just looked ahead completely indifferent to it and Noelle gulped nervously though that was more because she knew that her eldest brother was in attendance and her siblings were watching and not the crowd in general. "I'm going to win this for sure."
Asta wasn't the only one not worried, Bakugo too was pumped for it as the crowd just added fuel to the raging inferno he had driving him to win the Sports Festival. He had a lot of chips on his shoulders coming into the Sports Festival and that icy-hot bastard hadn't helped by calling out Deku only, and Deku hadn't used him as an example of someone who could match icy-hot, so now he was going to win it for sure.
Shitty hair behind him may be nervous but Bakugo sure as hell wasn't. Also the next class to be announced had that pretty boy bastard in it and that was one of the few actual threats to Bakugo that he had to crush to show that he was the real best in the year and that the entrance exam score was just a fluke.
"And next up is a group that is full of talent as you will see shortly but who've just not gotten as much focus due to not facing a villain attack like their classmates have." Present Mic continued as Class 1-B walked out getting Asta's attention and he looked over to see Yuno just casually walking out in the middle of his class with his usual cool attitude and smirked at the challenge. "Welcome Hero Course Class 1-B!"
Yuno wasn't listening to the commentary as he walked out, he had his own focus today and that was all that he had on his mind at the moment. He didn't care for Monoma's plan and wouldn't stick to it as he was here to win and that meant that he should win every event and not just the Sports Festival as a whole.
The main thing was that Yuno was going to beat Asta, his only acknowledged rival in the Sports Festival, and show the Quirk Knights that he was who they should all recruit thus getting his foot in the door on the path to the Wizard King. With him was Mimosa and Leo who also agreed that Monoma's plan was stupid but they had their own goals for this, as did the rest of Class 1-B.
"And next up it's the General Studies Classes C, D, and E!" Present Mic said and Asta looked over to see the kids in that class walking out with disinterested or annoyed looks for the most part though the Scarlet girl who was in the middle of the group seemed unperturbed by what was going on. "Support Course Classes F, G, and H! And finally Business Course Classes I, J, and K! That is all of the first year contestants at U.A. so give it up for them!"
The intro for the other classes were noticeably more muted and done all together which did get their attention. Ruby was mostly focused on the Support Course as she knew that area pretty well and had met one of them, and quickly found the pink haired girl who'd almost felt her up and noting that she was covered in gear, more than anyone else in her course which made sense as Power Loader had said that she was the best in the year. That was allowed though as Support could bring aby items that they personal made so it would certainly be interesting to see how things stacked up against them.
Meanwhile the students in General Studies didn't look at all happy with the introduction, or even being here, and a few noted that they were just present to make the Hero Course look good so they couldn't wait for it to be over. The Business Course knew they were useless here so had their own agendas but they had to be present for the opening ceremony and first event as they all made their way out and across the grass onto the brown center rectangle of the arena where they gathered before a raised platform that was on the grass halfway between the ends of the rectangle.
On said platform was a pro hero all could recognize and not just because she was a teacher. No, the pro was the R-Rated Hero: Midnight in her full skintight and easy to rip costume that really accentuated her chest and ass and that wasn't the only R-Rated part. That was because her whole theme and style was that of a dominatrix complete with bracelets that were clearly once a pair of handcuffs with the middle cut out and a flail thing that she expertly cracked to get their attention. She was the chief umpire for the first years so she had to be there, and the crowd loved it, but it was a bit much for some.
"And now it is time for the introductory speech!" Midnight announced with another crack of her flail to silence the crowd while the media continued to take pictures of the event and Midnight herself.
"Um someone should tell Ms. Midnight that what she's wearing is…" Kirishima said his cheeks almost as red as his dyed hair as the first years got a full view of the risqué costume Midnight wore and noted that the firm part of it that held it all together and thus couldn't be ripped away so that she could use her skin based Quirk more effectively did not cover her breasts at all but rather parted them making them even more noticeable than before. "Well, er…"
"Yeah that costume should come with a warning." Kaminari said though he wasn't really complaining as he stared at the pro before him. "Not that it's a bad thing of course."
"I must ask if it is appropriate for a high school Sports Festival." Tokoyami said. "We are all 15 or 16 here so surely it can't be."
"I approve." Mineta said with a thumbs up as he drank in all that he was seeing and committed it to memory for later. "Though her first costume from when she was a student at U.A., oh man that was something else and it led to that bullshit rule about exposed skin that I thoroughly disapprove of. The first thing I'm buying when I make it as a pro is that figure, they're super rare and expensive but worth every penny."
"I really don't want to know." Noelle said from behind Mineta, repulsed by his behavior. "But that costume is a bit much."
"Skin based Quirks require it just look at Yaoyorozu's." Nero said her tone neutral as if the risqué teacher before them was totally normal. "It's necessary for some and, well, men can be pigs so it sells really well. Yaoyorozu clearly doesn't view it as sexual which is fine but Ms. Midnight does and definitely plays into it so whatever, it doesn't faze me at all."
"Right, you're not really attentive to that stuff are you." Noelle said. "I forgot."
"Not in the slightest." Nero replied as Asta had to think long and hard about Sister Lily and look at the sky to remember who he swore he'd marry to avoid any issues because that was the only woman for him.
"I'm a little more disturbed by something else." Weiss said, it had only taken a few words but she'd heard it clear as day and any part of her mind that was currently being suppressed that would want to comment on or appreciate the visage before here, even if Midnight was too tall, busty, and long in the hair for Weiss's growing tastes, was driven from her mind. "And now that I hear it I can't unhear it."
"What is it Weiss?" Ruby asked not affected by this at all.
"Um, well, Ms. Midnight kinda, er, she kinda sounds like a perverted version of my sister." Weiss said surprising Ruby. "And now that I'm tuned into it it's all that I can think about."
"What?" Ruby asked.
"Yup, she sounds like Winter only not all stuck up and proper." Weiss said gulping. "Rather, she's what Winter might sound like if she wasn't like that if that makes sense and I really don't want to picture my sister like Ms. Midnight."
"I don't know your sister's voice so I can't say." Ruby admitted. "But…"
"Silence!" Midnight yelled in a commanding voice that she accentuated with yet another crack of her flail and all the students fell silent at her words causing her to lick her lips at that response. "It is time for the student pledge and to give it, it's Yuno!"
That got all their attention as they turned to Yuno who actually looked surprised and blinked at suddenly being selected for something he'd known nothing about before slowly walking forward as he had been called out so he was their designated rep to take the pledge. No one knew why he was chosen, though there was one clear reason why it might be him, but more important was no one actually knew what the pledge was.
"Why's he the choice?" Kirishima asked confused.
"Damn it Yuno, you look so cool." Asta said as Yuno walked forward his expression once again cool and neutral. "And so lucky to be chosen. Must be because he topped the entrance exam."
"Yeah that would make sense." Sero said. "He did score over 100 if I recall, only the third since All Might and the highest since the current Wizard King so he's got some serious talent."
"Yup that's our Yuno for you." Tetsutetsu said with a grin at Class A as they chatted while Yuno reached the stage and began to climb the steps to it. "He's our ace that will beat you if we all fail, not that we plan to fail that is."
"You know that he was only top in the Hero Course normal exam." A brunette girl said glaring at them. "Not the other exams."
"Relax, the Sports Festival is for them and those who need to show that they're as good as the Hero Course, not those of us who make up the majority of the U.A. student body." Scarlet said from next to the girl as Izuku apologized and Sero noted that the brunette clearly disliked the Hero Course. "We'll be done soon enough and then we can watch them hurt each other like idiots. Our time is the School Festival and when that comes we'll beat them without question."
"True, we're going to blow them away there, you're cooking is to die for Scarlet." The brunette said as Yuno reached the top of the stage as Bakugo growled at what was going on. "So your class has to do something with food to really show off."
"At least Asta did kinda diffuse it somewhat the other day with that redhead." Kaminari said as Yuno reached the mic. "And this is his rival so let's see what he has to say."
There was a pause as Yuno stood before the mic and looked in front of it. The mic was facing the stands so his back was to the rest of the participants and they were all wondering what he was going to say as the pledge for the first years.
"All I have to say is this." Yuno said in a calm, measured tone as he knew what he had to say to make it clear to the others his intentions for the coming Sports Festival. "I am going to be the next Wizard King of the Quirk Knights and to do so I need to show that I'm the best at what I do. Therefore, I'm going to win the Sports Festival today."
That was all Yuno had and when he was done he turned and walked off the stage and back to his class as even his own class looked shocked at the bluntness he had to say though that was only for a moment before they cheered at the declaration their classmate had made. It did rile up some of the others though Yuno completely ignored them as he walked.
"That's it Yuno, represent Class 1-B!" Tetsutetsu roared. "Show those arrogant bastards in Class 1-A that we're the real top hero class."
"Oh my that was rather bold." Mimosa said surprised her hands over her mouth.
"Ha, I expect no less from my rival." Leo said with a bark of a laugh. "Well done Yuno, now I really have to beat him."
"Well he's arrogant." Noelle said.
"Agreed." Weiss said with a nod.
"Speak for yourselves." Nero pointed out. "But you two aren't wrong it seems."
"Yang did something similar, declared she'd win when she took the pledge her first year though her statement involved more emphasis on punching than this one did." Ruby said with a laugh. "Course she then lost in the final, didn't live that one down for a while."
"Bastard, I'll kill you!" Bakugo roared at Yuno who just ignored him. "I'm going to win this not you pretty boy!"
"Hey, Kendo, tell your classmate that that was disrespectful." Ida said turning to who he knew Class 1-B's Class Rep to be. "He was representing all of us there and he really made us look bad."
"It's Yuno, he's like that and I gotta admire his determination to win." Kendo said with a shrug. "Plus I was in his entrance exam, he's the real deal for sure so he can back that up but you'll see that soon enough."
Others piped up at what Yuno had said as well but Asta stayed quiet. He got Yuno's challenge and grinned at his brother and rival as he walked right past him to return to his spot with his classmates. Yuno gave him a small smile in return, the only emotion he'd shown this entire time other than the understandable shock at being selected to give the pledge, because to Yuno only Asta could challenge him for the gold medal today and they were going to compete until they met in the final, that was the goal.
Course he made himself and his class target now equal to Class A's after the USJ and Bakugo's shouting the other week but Yuno didn't care about any of that. This was the Sports Festival and he'd made his intentions clear; it was up to the others to rise to match them, if they could that is.
"Alright, after that bold and sexy announcement, confident men are such a turn on aren't they?" Midnight said with a wink that caused a lot of groans, raging envy in Mineta, and Yuno to splutter at that as that was not his intention at all before a sound was heard that drew their attention to the scoreboards in the arena suddenly proclaimed the first game was about to start. "It's time for us to officially start the Sports Festival!"
"No rest then." Ochaco noted. "Right into the first event after that."
"Bring it on." Asta said with a grin. "After Yuno's declaration I'm more hyped than ever to beat him and win this."
"It's time to start feeling that juicy pain!" Midnight announced and everyone got serious at her words. "The first game of the Sports Festival is…"
At that Midnight thrust her flail up as a giant holo screen appeared behind her with a blur in a box in the middle of that was running through the random choices that they might have, though it was so fast that they couldn't see the choices, while game music played and Midnight asked what it could be. Well, that was answered a second later as the spinning stopped suddenly and the name of the first event appeared on the screen in the box in the center of.
"And it is…an obstacle course!" Midnight said as she then turned to the screen that split up into classes before showing the details of the event as she described it to the first year students. "All 11 classes will participate in this perilous competition. You will start here and go through the gates when the go lights all turn off and then run on a 4 kilometer track around the stadium. Now, I don't want to restrain anyone, at least not in this game."
At that Midnight licked her lips seductively as she spoke getting rises out of several students ranging from disturbed to, to shocked, to, well, Mineta. Weiss though shuddered because now she was certain that Ms. Midnight sounded like her sister, she'd never noticed in normal classes before because she'd been so focused on the class material but now that she heard it she couldn't not. It was really messed with her going forward given how different Ms. Midnight was to the prim, proper, serious, and conservative Winter Schnee.
"So, as long as you stay on the track, you can do whatever your heart desires and we'll have cameras to capture every glorious moment so that our fans in the stadium can see it all happen live just as those watching from home can." Midnight continued as she thrust her arm out to them before moving it to a red gate with three lights above it to show the starting spot. "And now, take your places students. It's time to start the race."
At that the entire first year of U.A. headed over to the start lime before the gate and bunched up before it as the crowd began to fall silent. They all had their own thoughts, their own desires, their own goals of what they had to do and show in this first event as well as the others if they advanced to the next stage so they were ready for what was to come.
As soon as they were all in front of it the three green lights above the gate lit up showing the countdown as all the Hero Course students set themselves and prepared their plans and tactics for what was to come even if they had no idea what the impending obstacles would be. It felt like an eternity but finally the first light went out, then the second almost right afterwards, and finally after what felt like an age and had to be longer than the first pause between lights, the final light went off and Midnight said one word that officially started the U.A. Sports Festival.
"Begin!"
Sorry, I just couldn't resist an ending like this, a good old fashioned cliffhanger to end the chapter off on as we start the Sports Festival with the Obstacle Race. The next few chapters should be on the shorter side as they will focus on the events and in between moments but with the changes made the battles will be nice and long so plenty to look forward to. There really isn't more that I need to say other than yes, the implications in this chapter are true, Midnight and Winter share and English VA. Of all the shared VAs it is the most startling in my book though basically anyone who shares a VA with Shigaraki is a close second as Shigaraki is an outlier to the other characters that actor voices (he does Fanzell in Black Clover for reference). Anyway, that is all that I have for y'all so I will leave this chapter off here. If you like this story please follow, favorite (this story and me) to keep up with it and leave a review or PM, your support is what helps motivate me to keep up this work and any questions posed before the next chapter is uploaded I will try to answer.
