Here is the thirty-seventh chapter in this story released in accordance with my release schedule for this story. Decisions have been made, hero names chosen where applicable, and now it's time for the U.A. first years to get their first taste of the real work as they begin their internships. Who knows what they will learn and experience as they set off on the next steps of their hero journeys. That is all that I have for the administrative stuff I have for y'all and while there are no questions to answer here there are three guest reviews that need a response, so I will do that now. Do keep them coming as your support is the best motivation for me to keep producing chapters at this kind of rate.
To Guest (guest), thank you for your review and support. Yes Class 1-B deserved some love, it won't be too often but I will try to do an occasional chapter that focuses on them and what they're up to here and there when Class 1-A does something similar to give them a chance to shine as well. There were some that weren't VA references but Tokage was one of them and she's one of the few who's got a RWBY VA that works for that though her Black Clover character is rather different and not in a Magic Knight Squad. Do keep reading and enjoying my work.
To KGBeastboy (guest), thank you for your review and suggestions. I won't have Nicholas Schnee know about One for All but knowing about All for One if he fought against him in the past is fair though as Nicholas will only be mentioned at times we won't see much of it but from the perspective of those who are still alive and knew him. As for Sister Theresa, that is interesting and I'll see if it works with my current plans for her and yes I have plans for her and her introduction in the story. Weiss knowing of them, if they fought with her grandfather, isn't out of the question though I will not have Gran Torino tell Weiss that she fights like her grandfather as we don't know how Nicholas fought and to me it's too presumptuous to create that, rather she'll just remind him of Nicholas in terms of who she is and how she's restoring the family name to what it was when he made it famous. Do keep reading and enjoying my work.
To AutoHunterJ47 (guest), yes they both are, it's why Nero noted that Honenuki sounded like Asta in their match in the Sports Festival. It's also why both got Black Bull offers and may consider doing a work study for them as the offers are a deeper reference. All but two of the Black Bulls have an MHA role so most will be referenced when realized. Do keep reading and enjoying my work.
That is it for this long pre-chapter note so it is time to sit back and enjoy the thirty-seventh chapter in Black RWBY Academia.
Disclaimer: I own nothing related to these three great franchises.
Chapter 37: Let the Internships Begin!
"Just to make sure, you all have your costumes, right?" Aizawa asked the students in the train station before him who were taking trains to their internships, or had at least been told to be at the station at a set time, to which the students nodded as they stood there in their school uniforms holding their costume cases. "Good. Now remember that you don't have permission to wear them in public yet, and that includes Rose and Schnee as well."
"What but this was my normal outfit." Ruby complained. "I used to wear it all the time."
"That may be but now it's officially your hero costume so the standard rules regarding it apply." Aizawa said. "While the three Quirk Knight students don't technically wear costumes, the rule applies to your Squad Robe that you will get when you reach your internship location."
"Wait like that thing Magna wore." Asta said stars in his eyes. "We get to wear them as well? So cool."
"Yes. that was his Squad robe and as all three of you are going to be in the same Squad as Swing so you'll get to wear one during your internship to denote that you are associated with them though as you are still students you can't use your Quirks." Aizawa said. "However, that robe is still your costume and so the same rules apply to you as well. On that note, don't lose them."
"Gotcha!" Mina said raising her costume case over her head. "I won't!"
"Speak properly, don't forget that you are representing U.A." Aizawa said. "It's 'yes sir' Ashido."
"Yes sir." Mina said with a pout.
"That applies to all of you, you should mind your manners with the other heroes during your internships as this is as much networking and selling yourselves as an internship." Aizawa said. "Now get to it and make the most of this week."
"Yes sir." The students said.
Aizawa just nodded at that before he turned and left them there. As he did the class broke up and began heading to their various trains, some chatting as they walked excited for the week to come, others silent and contemplative. One such person was Ida who didn't say anything as he headed off to catch his train to Hosu.
Of all the students, the last few days had to have been some of the hardest for Ida. Even those like Asta and Nero who were generally oblivious to the outside world either because they barely had access to it or didn't care knew what had happened to Ida's brother in Hosu City. The Hero Killer: Stain had been all over the news, after all he was a serial killer targeting heroes that was able to kill them and had claimed the lives of more heroes than any villain had in decades, but recently he'd left a hero alive.
Stain did that from time to time so that his message, which wasn't being reported to prevent copycats, got out though he always crippled the hero to the point that they had to retire. Such was the case the other day in Hosu when Ingenium had run into the Hero Killer and been left paralyzed from the waist down. That had been the day of the Sports Festival and why Ida had left it early but he'd not talked about what had happened to anyone and seemed fine so no one felt it was their place to say anything.
However, for some reason Ida had decided to intern in Hosu and at an agency that was nowhere near the best offer he got which had worried Izuku given what happened to his brother in Hosu. Now he was heading off seemingly without a word and for as much as Izuku felt that it wasn't his place to talk to Ida about his brother he did feel like he had to say something.
"Ida, wait." Izuku called out getting his friend's attention and heading over to him with Ochaco while Asta, Noelle, Nero, Ruby, and Weiss all watched as they'd not moved like the rest of the class as they had to meet people before they left for their internships. "If you ever want to talk about anything just let us know alright. We're friends so you can talk to us about anything."
"Yeah, we're here, all of us." Ochaco said, she too had noticed that Ida hadn't spoken about his brother's injuries to anyone and had been oddly quiet since deciding where to intern. "So if you need us we'll be there."
Ida turned to them and smiled though it was a small one. He only had one word for them before he turned back and walked away with a different look on his face but it prevented Izuku and Ochaco from saying anything more.
"Yes." Ida said before turning away his thoughts his own as he couldn't tell anyone about his burning desire for revenge for what Stain had done to Tensei.
Izuku would see the issues in hindsight but he wasn't the only one to notice this. Both Todoroki and Asta noticed as well. Todoroki because he'd seen the same look in Ida's eyes in his own when he'd looked in the mirror before Midoriya and Asta had shattered his walls and shown him a new path, one which allowed him to finally go to see his mother in the hospital where she'd been since she'd burned him and begin to repair their relationship.
Meanwhile Asta noticed because he just felt like something was off with Ida. He wasn't sure what it was but he knew that Ida needed something similar to Todoroki and if he could he'd be there to help his friend out.
That would come though, for now they were splitting up and heading to their respective internships and as Ida walked away to catch his train Ochaco and Izuku watched him go before turning and returning to their group. Neither had to leave just yet so they had a moment to chat before then.
"Should we be concerned?" Asta asked as Izuku and Ochaco reached them. "About Ida that is."
"I don't know." Izuku admitted. "He's not talking about it and I don't feel like it's our right to pry if he's not willing to discuss it."
"Sometimes you have to do that though." Asta pointed out. "It's what I did with Todoroki in the Sports Festival."
"That was different as Midoriya had already broken through whatever walls Todoroki had up, If Ida doesn't want to talk about it yet then leave it." Weiss said. "I know from personal experience that sometimes you need to sort yourself out first before you can talk to others about a personal family matter."
"I agree with Weiss." Noelle said. "This is a tough time for him, let him come to us when he's ready for our help."
"It is harder for men to ask for help though." Nero pointed out. "I agree that we shouldn't force it, at least not yet, but if it gets too much we should intervein rather than let Ida bottle it all up."
"Yeah I guess." Izuku said trusting that Ida had things under control and changing the subject. "So when's your train? You lot are going quite far if I recall."
"Apparently though we're not going by train." Asta said. "We were just told to be here at a set time and wait for the others to arrive."
"Others?" Ochaco asked. "What others?"
"The third years who are doing work studies with the Black Bulls." Nero said. "Three are apparently so they're going to take us to wherever the agency is based and help show us the ropes."
"It makes sense when you think about it." Noelle said. "There are already students at U.A. who are working there so why not have them help us as we learn what the Black Bulls do for the Quirk Knights. With so few in the other branches this will make the transition and understanding easier, especially for Asta and Nero who don't know it as well as I do."
"It's the same for us." Ruby said. "While there is an outpost for Beacon in Musutafu, their main agency is in Vale which is about half an hour away by train which isn't too bad. So rather than stick around here like normal, the third years who are doing work studies for Beacon are going to accompany us to it to help us get situated."
"There's an outpost here?" Ochaco asked.
"Yup, it's how Beacon is able to have work study students who don't need to go down to Vale for it." Ruby said with a nod. "They do their patrols in the area outside the city and help keep any Grimm from getting too close to it, though that is rare, while protecting smaller towns in the surrounding area at the same time. The large area that each Huntsman Agency has jurisdiction over necessitates multiple outposts within it and given how closely U.A. and Beacon are tied it's only logical to have one in Musutafu if you think about it."
"It helps that both Mr. Port and Dr. Oobleck are active Huntsmen who are part of the Beacon Agency as well as being teachers at U.A." Weiss said. "So they can oversee it though there is a team from Beacon based in the city for full time and emergency response work. It's the same with Atlas's relationship with Shiketsu."
"Yup, recent graduates stay in the city around the school they graduated from for the three agencies who have close relationships with specific Hero Courses." Ruby said. "Shiketsu and Ketsubutsu work similarly though eventually you move to the main agency and from there are assigned to a location within the agency's jurisdiction that you are responsible for. After a while you can even chose where to work, it's why my dad chose Patch."
"Right your from a Huntsman family." Izuku said. "That does help understand it a lot as it appears to be quite confusing from what I've gathered. Most on the normal track just go to big cities as that's where the majority of major crime is. At least if that's the area of hero work that they want to specialize in that is."
"It makes sense that they do." Weiss said. "More chance for exposure and fame while also doing more good at the same time. Plus more heroes are just a crime deterrent in general."
"It's also why the other two branches are necessary." Noelle said. "We don't serve in the cities so we protect the rest of the nation be it from Grimm if you're a Huntsman or Huntress or the work that Quirk Knights do. There are normal heroes out there as well though they are mainly focused on rescue work and are specifically trained for dealing with natural disasters while Quirk Knights at least are more generalized to rural work overall."
"That's what I'd like to do one day but this is about getting new skills and experiences to round out my repertoire." Ochaco said. "So I'm going to be in a city for my internship."
"My internship isn't in a major city." Izuku noted. "Still a city just a more spread out and rural one where crime is lower."
"Right you got an offer, didn't you." Asta said recalling how All Might had shown up while they were deciding internships with a late offer that had come in for Midoriya. "From a hero and not a Quirk Knight Squad that is."
"I did." Izuku said. "An old hero called Gran Torino."
"Never heard of him." Asta said and Ochaco, Ruby, and Noelle also shook their heads while Nero blinked not particularly as she barely knew who the current heroes were let alone older ones. "Then again outside the Wizard King and All Might I didn't know much about the hero world before coming to U.A."
"I have." Weiss said much to their surprise, even Izuku's. "Heard of Gran Torino that is."
"You have?" Izuku asked. "When I got the offer I had no idea who he was and I know about a lot of heroes. Then again if he's not in the media, which he's not, it is less likely that I would have heard of him and when All Might told me about him I understood why I didn't know."
"Wait, Weiss knows a hero that you don't?" Ruby asked looking at her bestie as Midoriya rambled a bit. "That's unreal."
"I only know about him because of his age." Weiss said. "Gran Torino is in 70s if I had to guess so he's really old. He was a noted pro in the days before All Might however but with All Might's rise those who predate him have been largely forgotten."
"That's right." Izuku said surprised as he gave his reasoning for taking the offer, minus the whole One for All connection of course. "His age, experience, and wisdom is why I've accepted his offer as he's going to have a lot to teach me but I'm amazed you know about him Schnee."
"He was a contemporary of my grandfather, that's why." Weiss said with a shrug. "They fought together a bit despite being in separate branches so I heard a few stories about him and a few of my grandfather's other friends when I was a little girl but I only met Gran Torino once at my grandfather's funeral where several of his hero friends came. That was several years ago though so I don't know much more than that."
"That's still more than most." Izuku said as he checked his watch. "Though I should get going, my train is soon and I don't want to be late."
"Same." Ochaco said. "Let's go Deku. See you guys in a week."
"See you." Ruby said with a wave as Izuku and Ochaco headed off to their train leaving the other 5 there where they were. "Right, I'll call Yang and…"
"Rose, Schnee, there you are."
The new voice got all their attention and Weiss and Ruby turned to see Oscar Pine heading their way his costume case in his hand and calling to them. They didn't know Oscar well; he occasionally ate lunch with their group when the Class 1-B kids they knew joined them and he was the only Huntsman track student in his class so the girls had that connection with him but other than that they didn't know him well.
That said they were supposed to meet him here so that they could all go together. He wasn't alone however as Yuno and Mimosa were with him as well which wasn't unexpected as they'd likely wanted to say goodbye to Asta, Noelle and Nero before they left.
"Pine, there you are." Weiss said as the trio came over to them though she did note that he wasn't late. "Ruby was just about to call her sister."
"Yeah I just got word from Mr. King, they're going to be here soon." Oscar said as he reached them. "And it's just Xiao Long and Belladonna who're going to accompany us to Beacon. The other four are already there, apparently they had a late night patrol as a team so rather than go home they went straight to Beacon to crash there before spending the week at the agency as part of their work study. They'll meet us there as I'm going to be working with them this week."
"That makes sense." Ruby said. "All for are Class 3-B and a team according to Yang so it's easier to have one with them while we work with Yang, Blake, and likely a fully licensed Huntsman or Huntress."
"It also helps that you know them well seeing as one is your sister and you live with both of them." Weiss pointed out. "I am looking forward to meeting the others though, I've heard a bit about Valkyrie and Nikos."
"You've already met Arc." Ruby said. "He healed me during the Sports Festival so was there when you came to visit me after my loss."
"Yes, I recall." Weiss said flushing a bit at how she'd held Ruby's hand then and Ruby had let her. "He seems decent and his Quirk as a solid support one."
"I'm just looking forward to what they can teach me." Oscar said. "That's what this week is for and there's a lot to learn about being a Huntsman."
"That it is." Asta said. "We're all ready to learn with the Black Bulls and see what the Quirk Knights do up close."
"I'm still amazed that you picked that Squad." Yuno said. "You had other offers Asta and you still went with the biggest challenge you could find."
"Yeah but Noelle could only be in it and she's my battle partner so I was going to join with her." Asta said causing Noelle to go bright red at his words as he heart beat faster and her denial began to rage inside her to explain away why she was so happy at Asta's words while Nero looked amused at the reaction and Mimosa pouted a bit. "And Nero's with us as well so this just makes sense. We're a team, no point in breaking it up just because I got other offers."
"Typical Asta." Yuno said with a smile and a shake of his head. "You have a good reason for it and I'm sure that you'll go plus ultra with them. It just means that I'll have to do the same with the Golden Dawn, if I don't you'll get them to exceed us knowing you."
"You know it." Asta said as the boys began to focus on each other while the three Huntsmen track students huddled up and began to chat about what they were expecting to learn at Beacon and the kind of training they'd get from a week fully immersed in the Huntsman branch. "I'll be the Wizard King one day so just watch; this week is only the beginning of what I'll accomplish as a Quirk Knight."
"Please, that position is mine." Yuno said smirking at Asta. "This is just the start but you won't see as you're going to be staring at my dust."
"They're as lively as ever." Mimosa said recovering a bit from Noelle's reaction to Asta's comment earlier and sidling over to Noelle and Nero while Oscar, Ruby, and Weiss continued to chat amongst themselves about what to expect from their own internship. "It's quite amazing to watch them push each other. They really make each other stronger just by being rivals."
"When we heard of Yuno and even after learning about his entrance exam score and then meeting him we didn't get it." Noelle said as Asta and Yuno devolved into some kind of one upmanship that was very Asta but odd to see from Yuno which just showed what Asta could bring out in a person. "But the Sports Festival showed that he's every bit Asta's equal, and just how much they can push each other when in a competition."
"That is true, both made it to the podium and I doubt any expected that at the start of the day." Mimosa said. "Well any who didn't know them that is. It's just a shame that they didn't get to face each other in the final."
"Yes, I expected Asta to win." Nero said. "But Bakugo showed the weaknesses he has and reminded us that he's not just an angry bully. If he got that part of his personality under control he could truly be a top hero but I doubt Bakugo will manage that."
"I agree but he showed Asta where he needs to improve and Asta's already training to try and overcome his weaknesses so at least Bakugo was good for that." Noelle said. "So I'm sure a rematch between them wouldn't be the same."
"I know Yuno is the same and I'd expect no less from Asta." Mimosa said with a smile. "You're lucky you get to intern with him Noelle, you too Nero."
"I was going to regardless." Nero said her tone indifferent but this budding love triangle was amusing so she was looking forward to watching, and maybe occasionally messing with, it. "We both had offers from the Black Bulls and Crimson Lion Kings, and based on Asta's other offers those were the only two he'd take. The former because of Noelle, which was the right call as the trust the three of us have already built up will be invaluable in the field, and the latter because of the prestige. I was set regardless; it was Noelle who was worried."
"I am pleased that Asta decided to join me." Noelle said deflecting that she was indeed very worried that Asta wouldn't choose to be in the same Squad as her though she didn't know why she was so worried. "It's only natural that he'd accompany me though, we do work well together."
"So do we." Mimosa pointed out a little too defensively for Noelle's liking. "We were a great team in the Cavalry Battle but alas Asta wasn't going to get an offer from the Golden Dawn like me, he's a little rough around the edges for that Squad. It's part of his charm of course but I doubt Captain Vangeance would have seen that."
"Charm?" Noelle said a little uncomfortable. "I, er, guess you could say that. I don't mind though; the Black Bulls are better for Asta's personality. I am surprised that they made an offer to Yuno, or other non-upper class students for that matter."
"Yuno's got the bearing, power, and personality for them but I don't mind Asta's loudness or brash nature." Mimosa said flushing a little at that which caused Noelle to glower at Mimosa though she didn't know why it annoyed her so much. "And they're branching out a bit it seems. I'm the first Vermillion to get an offer, they never offer the three founding families I learned."
"Yes that is odd of them but you earned it." Noelle said, despite the discomfort that Mimosa's comments about Asta caused her, Noelle still treasured Mimosa's friendship as she'd been the only one to treat her normally growing up though she wasn't great at showing that. "And I understand the need to be away from your family, it will help you grow on your own just as being away from mine has helped me. I take it that's why Leo isn't here."
"Yup, the Crimson Lion Kings are located not too far from here as Musutafu falls within their jurisdiction just as the area Shiketsu is in falls in the jurisdiction of the Silver Eagles, all part of the strong ties between those Schools and Squads." Mimosa said with a nod. "So Fuegoleon sent a car to pick him up from school and take him straight there rather than bother with a train as it's faster and more convenient this way. There are also no other students working for them so it's just Leo."
"Makes sense." Noelle said. "Well then when's your train? If I recall the Golden Dawn's headquarters are pretty remote. Then again all headquarters are even if some are closer to cities than others."
"They are so we're getting a portal." Mimosa said with a smile. "The only member who's got a warp-based Quirk is actually offensive, some spatial displacement Quirk I think though I'm not sure, but there is a warp Quirk user on the Wizard King's staff who helps out with things like this."
"I see well we actually have one from the Black Bulls directly." Noelle said pleased that she had this over Mimosa as she didn't when it came to the rankings and reputations of the Squads that they were interning with. "They have a warp Quirk user in their Squad."
"My that is lucky." Mimosa said surprised. "To think the other Squads let someone like that slip through their fingers, the Black Bulls were smart to snap someone like that up. Add in you, Nero, and Asta, and I think the Black Bulls have more to talent than they let on. Their Captain must have a good eye."
"You could say that though there is a reason for some of their members ending up with them."
The new voice distracted all of them and they turned to see an attractive girl in the girls' U.A. School uniform holding a costume case walking towards them. The marks on her uniform indicated that she was a third year and she was definitely someone that Noelle, Mimosa, Nero, Asta, and Yuno had never seen before as she had short black hair cut in a bob that just graced her shoulders and a pair of cat ears on her head that twitched and moved just like a cat's did marking her as a heteromorph though they weren't necessarily to do with her Quirk.
"Blake!" Ruby said excitedly recognizing her sister's bestie and roommate right away and turning to her the moment she heard Blake's voice. "You're here! Where's Yang? I was just about to call her when we realized that the time to meet you had passed."
"Arguing with someone at the convenience store." Blake said with a sigh. "The price of the ready meals have gone up it would seem and she's not thrilled with it. I decided to come and get you instead as it might take a while for Yang to calm down. The train to Vale is leaving in 20 minutes so we should head to the platform soon."
"Right." Ruby said. "Let's get going."
"Wait, before you leave." Noelle said looking at the older student. "What were you saying about the Black Bulls, miss…"
"Belladonna." Blake said giving her family name and bowing slightly to Noelle. "Sorry for my rudeness, Silva was it?"
"Yes." Noelle confirmed with a bow of her own. "A pleasure to meet you Belladonna. If I recall you are a friend of Ruby's, right? She does use your first name so clearly you're close."
"I am, as well as her roommate though that's because I was already roommates with her sister before Ruby got into U.A. as Yang's my best friend, and to answer your question, the Black Bulls are, on paper, one of the stronger Quirk Knight Squads out there." Blake said rising and looking Noelle in the eye. "Three of my class are in them so I actually know the Squad pretty well despite not being on that track. I believe you've met Magna, right?"
"Swing?" Noelle asked. "Yeah he was at the USJ with us. We even ended up with him when the Warp Villian separated us."
"He was a great help." Asta said and Noelle nodded as Magna was part of why she'd been able to go plus ultra and develop her water dome move, her first bit of control over her Quirk. "With the villains and getting clear of them."
"I heard; Yang was rather jealous of that by the way as she likes to punch villains, or Grimm for that matter." Blake said. "Well you've seen him, he's strong but a total punk that doesn't fit with most of the more refined Quirk Knight Squads."
"You could say that again." Noelle said. "I was surprised he was a Quirk Knight when I met him given his style and personality though he showed that he's true to what a Quirk Knight is supposed to be."
"Magna's from the sticks, he grew up with the Quirk Knights as the only heroes he knew so he wanted to join them." Blake said showing that she did know Magna well but then again she'd been in a class with him for more than 2 years so she should. "But his style and personality only appealed to the Green Praying Mantis and Black Bulls and he chose the latter. Personality was also what allowed Luck to fall to them as well as without it he'd easily be in one of the more well known Squads."
"I've heard of him." Asta said. "Magna mentioned him."
"They are best friends but also Luck beat Ruby's sister in the final of the Sports Festival our first year." Blake said. "That was a brutal final and while Yang held herself together well she's not as resistant to electrical attacks as she is to physical ones so she fell in the end. That said the other matches that Luck was in were rather savage. See, Luck's powerful and has exceptional control over his Quirk especially with the recon aspect of it but he's also a battle junky that puts Yang to shame and that's a hard thing to accomplish. It's a bit of a turnoff to the more refined Squads as he lives for the thrill of strong opponents so only the Black Bulls made him an offer."
"Again I can see that." Noelle said. "Though to let a Sports Festival winner slip past you like that is a bit much. Asta got 5 offers at least."
"Interesting though he didn't savagely beat three kids on his way to the final like Luck did so that could be it." Blake said a note of surprise in her voice as few who got multiple offers chose the Black Bulls from that. "But yes it was a bit of a dumb decision to not recruit Luck. As for the final one, well you saw her in action when those reporters broke into the campus."
"Wait that cotton that trapped some of the third years?" Noelle asked. "She's a Black Bull recruit?"
"I'm more surprised that it could hold Yang." Ruby said recalling it. "She was not happy about that."
"Oh it can hold a lot more than that, and as it's cotton it's pretty resistant to physical attacks which is why Yang hates." Blake said. "Charmy's Cotton Quirk is surprisingly strong and very versatile while her power levels are through the roof. Her issue is motivation."
"She's not motivated?" Mimosa asked.
"More she's motivated by food so her motivation is narrow." Blake said. "We call her the bottomless pit because despite her size she can put away more food than the whole class combined, literally we all took her on as a unit in our first School Festival and lost to her. She's actually banned from order more than a certain amount in the cafeteria because of that. She's also a great cook and loves to share with her friends so you're in for a treat there but her sole mission seems to be to eat as much as possible so it's hard to get Charmy to do anything that isn't food related. That said, mess with her food and you'll be lucky to survive without a few broken bones because when Charmy's pissed there aren't many who can stop her."
"I recall the cotton." Mimosa said. "It was rather impressive. Fire would work on it but other than that it seemed strong."
"Yeah same, I was caught in it and that's not the first time." Blake said. "So don't let her size or personality fool you, Charmy's a wolf in sheep's clothing though only when she wants to be. However, it's because of her lack of motivation that she didn't get any offers from anyone except the Black Bulls no matter the branch. Hell I don't think she came here with the intention to be a Quirk Knight though I don't even know why she came here in the first place, but she got into U.A. and accepted the offer to intern and then do her work study with the Black Bulls so who knows. If you see her in full action you'll understand."
"Those are the three that the Black Bulls have from the third years?" Noelle asked. "Damn, they sound pretty strong. We've seen Magna in action and he's not bad at all but the other two seem stronger."
"That's just their recruits and that strength will get more with a Silva, the silver medalist from the Sports Festival who can nullify other Quirks, and a girl with, er, what can you do?" Blake asked looking at Nero. "I know you made it to the top 16 but I couldn't figure out your Quirk from matches."
"I can seal and unseal things." Nero said. "It's more varied than you'd expect."
"I saw your matches and determination so I don't doubt that you're strong." Blake said. "But yeah that's just the recruits. I've met a few of their members, the one picking you up is a warp Quirk user with a good battlefield eye though he's a hopeless, failed, womanizer which is why he slipped through the cracks despite having a warp Quirk, also I don't know where he went to school. The others all have impressive strengths but are also rather eccentric and odd, to say nothing of their Captain, so yes I'd say power wise their top tier but between their personalities, reputation and penchant for utter destruction that causes more harm than good they've ended up at the bottom."
"All the more reason to push for the top." Asta said with a grin. "Nothing will stop me and I'm going to give them my all."
"Please, the Golden Dawn will remain the top." Yuno said.
"Oh so you're going to that Squad." Blake said her tone a little surprised as it was clear that Yuno wasn't from an upper class family. "Good luck."
"What does that mean?" Yuno asked confused. "I thought they were the top Quirk Knight Squad, the best out there. That's why I chose them, they can teach me the most and help me become the Wizard King if I rise to the top of the Squad after I graduate."
"Yes, I'm joining them as well." Mimosa said. "That was a bit ominous."
"Let's just say that the member of my year who's doing his work study for them is a bit of a handful." Blake said. "Not in the way the Black Bulls are but, well, you'll see when you meet him. He's not bad, just a bit narrow minded."
"He's going to be some elitest jerk, isn't he." Mimosa said with a sigh. "I expect that but still it's annoying to deal with."
"Good guess though I'd use a less polite word for that." Blake said. "But he's strong and noble just like a Quirk Knight should be, he just needs to realize that his world view isn't the best. I'd say that Yang's knocked sense into him but each time they've faced off she's just knocked him out before she can do it though she does like facing him as his Quirk is a great way to see how much stronger she's become. Again you'll see soon enough."
"I don't care, if he's in my Squad then that makes him my friend." Yuno said. "And if he's an ass based on my birth then I'll just show him he's wrong."
"Good attitude but enough about that." Blake said. "I've gotta get these little ones to Beacon, and try to stop Yang from punching someone though that's a normal task for me. Let's go."
"You know that will be hard, right?" Ruby asked as they began to head off. "She's not that restrained when she's angry. It's why she keeps getting into trouble for destroying clubs."
"The situation helps." Blake said as the Ruby, Weiss, and Oscar began to leave. "She can be reasoned with if it's not villain related and that club was crawling with villains so she was justified even if she went a bit too far."
"True." Ruby said before turning and waving at her friends. "Bye, have fun in your internships."
"You too." Asta called out as Weiss also smiled at them showing how far she'd come before they were lost by the crowd.
"Well that just leaves us." Noelle said looking around. "When do you think they'll show up? We're also supposed to meet the third year who's doing a work study for the Golden Dawn."
"Soon." Nero said pulling out her phone to check the time. "We were given a set time and it's already passed so I…"
"Why are you three so useless! I swear the standards have fallen since they started letting low class people like you into the Quirk Knights."
"But that pastry looked so yummy! I had to have it to prove that I was right, and then another and another and another and…"
"We should have factored in Charmy's stomach, that's on us, I'll give you that Sir Spectacles."
"Awe man I was hoping to see them already, we got the runner up in the Sports Festival so I want to fight him because he looks strong and his Quirk can negate other Quirks which is a great challenge."
"That's all you think about, brutal combat isn't everything you know. There's a reason why you're called the Cheery Berserker, you know that right?"
"Just because you can't advance past the last 16 doesn't mean it's not important. Combat is part of being a Quirk Knight so you have to be good at it. Plus you're clearly annoyed that we got the highest place Quirk Knight first year and you didn't."
"I am not and those battles aren't conducive to my Quirk; I need time to mold my metal into something useful, that's why the team work of Quirk Knights is beneficial to me so a one on one fight is not a fair assessment of my combat skills. Plus I kept getting drawn against the berserker here and his Quirk is the perfect counter to mine. Thankfully Captain Vangeance knows that the Sports Festival is not the best assessment of what I can do."
"All I'm hearing is excuses, even I've made a quarters."
"You can create fire; I create metal which conducts electricity. Besides in terms of raw power I'm stronger."
"Keep making excuses, I still beat you in our first year Sir Spectacles so you can't use the conductivity weakness as an excuse."
"Yeah then I fried you, that was fun."
"Don't call me that, punk."
"Hey, I embrace being a punk and make it look cool."
"No, you don't."
"I'm still hungry, can we just get the newbies and head to the hideout for the feast."
"You're cooking it so it won't be ready."
"Seriously you lot are the worst; I hate that we're in the same branch."
The voices were coming from near them so the 5 students turned and blinked as they saw 4 kids, 3 boys and a girl, in U.A. uniforms with the markings of third years carrying costume cases heading towards them though they weren't looking at them but rather they were arguing with each other. Well, more precisely two of the boys were arguing with the third while the girl just ate from a bag of pastries at the end of the row.
One of the boys was Magna, Asta, Noelle, and Nero would recognize him anywhere, while the boy he was arguing with was taller with black, square glasses and light blue hair that was saved at the sides but left a lot on top so that there was a parting on the right side with most swept to the left and down so that a single strand fell past his left eye. The other boy was more generic looking with a beaming smile, messy blond hair and the kind of frantic energy of someone who'd drunk too much caffeine. As for the girl, she was very short, well under 5 feet tall but taller than Mineta, with long black hair done up in a simple bun but for two strands that framed her face.
It was clear that these were the third year Quirk Knight students who they were supposed to meet. By process of deduction, the girl was Charmy as she was the only female that Blake had mentioned and the guy next to Magna occasionally making comments about fighting was Luck. That just left the bespectacled man as the one who was doing his work study for the Golden Dawn.
"Hey, we're over here." Asta called out waving to the other students. "We've been waiting for you."
"Huh, oh look its lil rasta." Magna said with a grin and headed over to them followed by the others. "Good to see you again, you've been doing well since the USJ I see. Been waiting long?"
"A little bit." Noelle said with a slight huff. "We were here early because we came as a class but that's no excuse for being late when you had a set time to be here. You're our seniors, you should be setting an example."
"A pleasure to see you again too, princess." Magna said and as he spoke Asta realized something that he'd not realized before mainly because he'd not gotten to know his class that well when they'd first met Magna though now he did. "And sorry for that, that was Charmy's fault."
"Hello, I'm Charmy Pappitson but as we're going to be Quirk Knights together you can call me Charmy." The girl said looking up at them and holding up the large bag of pastries. "You must be our new recruits. Here, have a pastry, they were too good to pass up so I had to stop for them. All of you for that matter."
"Oh thanks." Noelle said a bit taken aback but accepting one as Asta and Nero also took one and biting into it while Charmy offered them to Mimosa and Yuno as well who both took one to be polite. "This is good."
"Right, there's this new place that opened near here and I smelt it on the way in so I knew that it was going to be good." Charmy said as she went back to her pastries while the first years enjoyed them as well. "And besides, we've got time as we've just got to call Finral to get picked up."
"Yes, you have time but I'm running late thanks to you." The man in the glasses said as he adjusted them. "Typical Black Bulls though. I presume you are the two with me."
As he spoke the man turned to Mimosa and Yuno who turned to him as they'd been observing the chat with Charmy, the pastries that she had offered them were good, and how Magna knew the other three though that was because he'd been the third year to help them out at the USJ which due to the incident their class hadn't had the chance to go to yet. Well that and Mimosa was really confused as to how Charmy could sound similar to Pony despite the fact that Pony was American who was still getting the hang of Japanese and Charmy was clearly Japanese.
"We are." Yuno said.
"You don't sound upper class." The older boy said a hint of distain in his voice. "Your classmate I can tell is a Vermillion, it is an honor to have a member of one of the founding families in the Squad, but you're lowborn, aren't you?"
"I'm an orphan from Hage in the north so yes I'm lowborn." Yuno said. "But like you I got an offer for this Squad and took it."
"Yes, well, it seems that standards are slipping it seems." The older boy said. "I'm Klaus Lunettes from House Lunettes, we're an old, upper class house that has been serving the Quirk Knights since the beginning. As you're going to be interning with the number one Squad in the nation you can call me Klaus."
"Good to meet you, Klaus sir." Yuno said.
"Same." Mimosa said. "I'm Mimosa Vermillion and this is Yuno."
"Just Yuno?" Klaus asked.
"Yes." Yuno said.
"Well you seem polite if nothing else so that's not too bad." Klaus said clearly still looking down his nose at Yuno. "But you're going to have to really show that you belong, we've never had someone born outside of the upper class before."
"Man, that guy is fussy." Asta said through his pastry as he watched the exchange causing a vein to throb in Klaus's temple. "Are all Quirk Knights like that?"
"That's Klaus for you." Magna said. "He's been like this for years and he's actually tame compared to some of the more classist Quirk Knights. No matter what we beat into him he won't listen."
"I will not listen to rabble like you." Klause said as he pulled out his phone. "Anyway, I have to make a class so we can get out of here and they can start their internship so excuse me while I make it."
With that Klaus stepped away to make the call leaving the others there. Magna made a face as he left that Asta chuckled at. Yuno smiled a little but he had a feeling that this was going to be interesting especially if they ran into Asta during the week as Asta wouldn't back down from a challenge and he was sure that he'd create one with Klaus.
"He just needs to fight more, that always helps." The blond boy, Luck, said his voice fast and excited and instantly Asta, Noelle, and Nero turned to him blinking at Luck. "Let me spar with him, he's got good defense and so long as he'd not touching the metal he's using he can put up a good fight."
"Woah that's even more pronounced than Magna." Asta said. "Like it's a little scary to hear."
"Huh?" Luck asked looking at him and then grinning. "Oh you're the kid who got the silver medal, damn that was one hell of a fight. How about we spar when we get to the hideout, I'd love to test my Quirk against yours."
"Er maybe." Asta said though as it was out of school he doubted he could use his Quirk when they got to the Black Bulls' agency. "But I was actually going to say that you sound like a battle crazed, more confident, and faster version of a friend of mine in my class."
"He does sound like Midoriya if Midoriya wasn't so analytical and more into combat and battle." Noelle admitted. "And drank more coffee for that matter. I think Magna said as much to Midoriya at the USJ."
"He did mention that Midoriya sounded like his friend Luck." Nero noted. "Still, it is rather uncanny."
"Oh isn't he the one that broke his bones against that Todoroki kid, man was that some power and the way the whole battlefield exploded at the end, man that must have been epic." Luck said. "Would be fun to see if I can withstand that kid's power. Same with Todoroki for that matter. Hell, your whole class is super strong, the other semifinal was just as good."
"Yes, Bakugo really pushed me and showed me that I have more to learn." Yuno said. "I won't lose to him again."
"Yup it was intense and you and I should spar, Yuno was it." Luck said grinning at him. "Those stars are fast and you've got great control over them but I wonder if they can hit me."
"I am busy this week but if you feel like you could teach me something I'm willing to learn." Yuno said. "I am willing to try any kind of training if it helps me get stronger."
"I like that, we'll spar when you get back then." Luck said. "I'll spar with Asta this week and then compare how he is to you when we spar. Oh and I want to face that Bakugo kid as well, Sports Festival winner to Sports Festival winner."
"Of course you do you battle mad freak." Magna said with a sigh. "We'll have to see; we are busy and third years so beating up first years might be frowned upon."
"True." Luck said. "But it's training so the school won't mind."
"Alright now I know." Asta said looking at Magna and interrupting any chatter. "I was confused at first as I didn't realize it before but you sound like my classmate Shoji just like how Luck sounds like Midoriya."
"Shoji?" Magna said. "I didn't get to see your class all that much due to that warp bastard so who's that?"
"He's the tall guy with a mask and the arms." Asta said. "Cool guy though I've not interacted much with him."
"He didn't advance to the battles." Nero clarified. "So he didn't stand out too much in the Sports Festival but he's got strong recon abilities and a fair amount of physical strength as well."
"I see." Magna said as Klaus returned putting his phone away as he reached them. "I don't know him so I can't say."
"Alright you two, it should be here…now." Klaus said ignoring the Black Bulls and as he said 'now' there was a shimmer in the air and everyone blinked as a door appeared in the air though the people in the station paid it no heed other than a quick glance at it and nothing more. "Right on time, I'd expect no less from someone handpicked to be an aid to the Wizard King."
The door itself was a standard door though it had an ornate, golden design on it and no doorknob or hinges. However it still opened as if it had hinges and revealed a light gray mass inside that was swirling slightly and dense enough that they couldn't see through it.
"What's that?" Asta asked. "It looks cool."
"That is spatial door created by one of the Wizard King's aides who's Doorway Quirk always him to create doors that connect two points." Klaus said not looking at them. "He assists Magic Knights whose Squads don't have warp Quirks get to and from their agencies, in addition to his duties to the Wizard King of course."
"Yeah we don't need that." Magna said with a grin as he pulled out his phone and sent a text with a pin drop to his specific location using a special app he had that was an ultra-precise GPS tracker complete with the exact longitude and latitude of their current location. "Unlike you, we've got a warp Quirk user in the Black Bulls."
"I still can't believe that you pulled that off." Klaus said as the vein in his temple throbbed again. "But we have the only offensive warp user out there in our Vice-Captain which shows the talent that we can bring in. Now come on you two, go through as I don't want to tax Cob too much."
"Right, well see you guys in a week." Mimosa said turning and smiling and waving at the other three. "Can't wait to hear your stories about your internship and share ours with you."
"Come back stronger Asta." Yuno said as Mimosa walked through the doorway. "Because I will so if you don't then I'll just leave you behind."
"Oh you know it." Asta said with a grin as Yuno turned and walked through after Mimosa.
Klaus didn't say a word however, as he just walked through after them and the door closed and vanished behind him. The fact that people barely batted an eye at it showed just how used to strange things people were in the Age of Quirks, that or whoever this Cob guy was is Quirk was relatively well known.
"Well that was as pleasant as ever, it's been more than 2 years and Klaus still looks down his nose at us." Magna said turning back to them. "But we'll be good, our own ride should be here any moment…"
Before Magna could finish a large circle appeared in the air in between the 6 students getting their attention at once. Just like with the doorway the center of the circle had the same gray swirling stuff in it showing that it was a spatial pathway as well but it had no covering and the whole thing was edged in a blue light that glowed pretty brightly. It was impressive though as it was large enough for them to walk through standing up.
"Woah so cool, what is it?" Asta asked stars in his eyes. "Another warp Quirk?"
"That's exactly what it is though we call it a spatial gate and it's created by one of our members." Magna said with a grin. "Unlike other Squads we have a warp Quirk user and we're the only one that has one as the other one is that Cob guy who works directly for the Wizard King. Handy, isn't it? We can pretty much travel wherever we want with that."
"I'll say, I'm still amazed the Black Bulls got a warp Quirk user, they're seriously rare to begin with so for them to land one is impressive." Noelle said. "And with the range to connect here to your agency no less. That's not some joke of a Quirk."
"Yup, Finral's range is rather impressive." Magna said still grinning. "But I suggest heading through it now because he can't hold this indefinitely. His Quirk is more versatile than Cob's but it's also got less range and costs more stamina and Finral will be annoyed if he has to hold it open for too long."
"Oh ok then." Asta said. "Let's go!"
At that he walked forward and through the portal without a moment's hesitation. Noelle just looked to Nero who shrugged before the girls also walked through it together knowing that the other three would soon follow them through as they left the station behind them.
The travel was near instantaneous and right after Asta, and then Noelle, and Nero stepped into the portal, they stepped out of the it and blinked at the sight before them with the girls only a few seconds behind Asta. They were now in the middle of a clearing in a forest on a dirt path with grass around them looking at what could honestly be called an architect's worst nightmare.
That was because the building before them, the sole building in the clearly, was basically a massive structure that seemed to made of several other structures of varying designs and styles all meshed together though each was it's one with numerous windows, roofs, a tower and various things jutting out with no reason or support. How it fit together and remained standing was a total mystery and the trio of students just looked at it in silence.
Personally Asta found it cool while Noelle found it beneath her tastes but she knew she had to accept it as this was the Squad she had to join and Nero was indifferent towards the building. This was the Black Bulls' agency building, or hideout as they called it, and it would be where they were staying for their internship week and then again if they got their provisional hero licenses and did a work study but that was far off for them at the moment.
"Hello and welcome to the Black Bull Hideout."
The voice was male and got their attention as Magna, Luck, and Charmy all walked through the portal after them with the latter two heading straight for the entrance to the building and Magna hung around. As he did the portal vanished and the man who'd spoken exhaled a sigh of relief.
Said man was in his early 20s with wavy brown hair, an easy smile, and a pair of gold earrings in his earlobes. Under his Black bull robe he wore a simple, long sleeved, green tunic that came to below his waist and had a forked tail in the back, dark brown pants, and knee high gray boots. Around his waist was a brown belt with a brown bag on his left hip that likely had useful things a Quirk Knight would need in it. Clearly this was the warp Quirk user who'd come out to set it up.
"Hey." Asta said with a wave. "You must be the transport guy."
"My name is Finral but yes I'm the guy who created that portal." Finral said and there was a note of exhaustion in his voice showing that the portal he'd created had been taxing. "And it was rather draining to make one over that distance but it's within my range so I can do it."
Finral Roulacase, Quirk: Spatial Gate. Finral can create spatial gates between two points that allow for instantaneous transportation between them providing that he can either see the location, has been to it before and can picture it in his head, or has precise coordinates for it. He can also create more than one portal at a time though he is limited by distance and the more he makes, or the larger they are, the faster his stamina is drained.
"Yup this is Finral." Magna said introducing the member. "He's Yami's personal taxi service and the guy who transports us around when we need it, providing he knows where he's going."
"I wish that wasn't as accurate as it sounds." Finral said with another sigh though there were two lovely ladies joining, he'd keep that in mind for when they were older. "Anyway, welcome to the Black Bulls, interns."
"Yes sir." Asta said. "I can't…"
Before Asta finished there was an explosion that made him and Noelle jump, Nero was indifferent to it though it did startle her a bit, and part of the wall was blown out as the sound of yelling could be heard. That confused them and they all looked to it and then to Magna and Finral but both were unphased by what was going on.
"What was that?" Noelle asked.
"Just the Captain getting upset at something, probably the rest of the Squad is being a bit overzealous though without Magna and Luck fighting I can't say what caused it this time." Finral said. "Come on, let's go introduce you to the Squad."
"And then the fun begins." Magna said with a wicked grin as they began to walk towards the blown out part of the building.
"Fun?" Asta asked as they walked.
"Yup." Magna said still grinning. "Because after that it's time for your initiation."
"Initiation?" Asta asked getting confused while Noelle looked skeptical at that and Nero just accepted that this was going to get strange.
Magna didn't say anything, he just kept grinning as he led them to the wall where several figures were now kneeling before a large, buff, man in a white tank top, black pants, brown britches and black boots with his back to them. It was time to meet the Black Bulls and begin their internships. Even with the ominous mention of an initiation, Asta couldn't wait as this was just the next step on his path to the Wizard King and he really couldn't wait to see what his internship had instore for himself and his friends.
A nice little cliffhanger style ending to whet the appetite for what is to come. As you can tell this is the start of the Hero Killer arc and the internships for the students. The first half, what in the anime was Izuku's training and mastering of Full Cowl with Gran Torino, will cover what is going on for the other characters starting with the Black Bulls and their initiation and greeting with the Squad, along with other stuff that finally goes into depth about the history and role of the Quirk Knights. Don't worry, I've not forgotten about the others, we will see Yuno and Mimosa's arrival and initial days as well in a few chapters' time as well as what is going on with Ruby and Weiss as we've got to jump around a bit and set things up for the climactic chaos that is still to come but all in good time. For now they've just set out, they know that something is eating Ida up on the inside but not what, and they're ready to begin their internships. Naturally there were a few VA jokes thrown in as it was time for those and soon one of the biggest will happen so that's to look forward to as well. Anyway, that is all that I have for y'all with this chapter, however, so I will leave it off here.
