It's a bright sunny day today but unfortunately for a certain bored young man. He is currently sitting in one of his classes. Which one? He's too bored to remember and too bored to care right now.
John: (Damn, I'm bored. I just want to sleep right now.)
Teacher: Okay everyone, I will now begin to tell you all about the project I want you to do.
Random Student #1: What again!?
Random Student #2: This sucks!
Random Student #3: Can I go to the bathroom?
Teacher: You can go after I finish. Now for this project I'll have you all work in pairs to analyze a book from the list I'll be handing out, your grade will be determined from your presentation of the book you chose.
Random Student #4: um, Who are we pairing with?
Teacher: I'm deciding the teams. The pairs will be Blyke and Isen.
As soon as the two best friends heard that they immediately high-fived each other not caring if the teacher saw them.
Teacher: Now don't make me regret it you two. Next pair will be… John!
Hearing his name being called caused John to jump up as he just woken up from his mid-class nap.
John: Hu um, Sorry.
The classroom began to erupt laughter. laughter that was directed at the once sleeping student. The only ones not laughing were the half asleep John, the Ace of the school and Queen of poker faces Seraphina, and the clearly annoyed teacher.
Teacher: Quiet everyone!
It took a minute but the students began to quiet down.
Teacher: Now as I was saying the next pair will be John and Seraphina.
John: (Seraphina? That's the juice box girl who tried to take my cake! Well she agreed to share it with me so maybe she's now all bad.)
Seraphina: (You've gotta be kidding me! I have to pair up with the weirdo! He may be kind hearted, but that isn't going to help us get a perfect score.)
Teacher: You may take the rest of the time in class to discuss with your partner.
All the students begin to walk over to their partners for the project including John.
John: So… where do you want to start?
Seraphina: Well I'm just going to do the whole project on my own.
John: … …… !? I'm sorry I don't think I heard you right. Do you mind saying it again?
Seraphina: I don't want to lose my perfect score so I'm going to do the project on my own. I'll provide you with note cards for the presentation that you'll read from.
John: Are you high?
Seraphina: No.
John: Look, I'm NO freeloader I-
Seraphina: Thank you for your cooperation.
John: You can't just decide this on your own!
The Ace of the school power ups her ability.
Seraphina: I've, have.
John: Why are you being like this!? I thought we've come to an understanding!
Seraphina: Look just because you're nice to me once doesn't make us friends nor does it make us equal.
After saying what she wanted the Queen got up from her desk and began to walk away.
John: Where you going?
Seraphina: I'm going to the library. If you want to look over what I'll write on your cards for practice then you're free to join me.
John: Damnit.
Is all he said in response as he rises from his seat and walks with the school's Ace.
The pair proceeds to walk down the hall. A LONG irritatingly silent walk down the hall. Finally with the school's library in sight the pair spots a female student with sky-blue hair tied into pig-tails bullying another student with light brown hair and green eyes.
Girl w/ pig-tails: You know all you have to do is beg me to stop and it all be over.
Brunette boy: …… Please, leave me alone.
The girl proceeded to punch him right in the gut.
Girl w/ pig-tails: Again!
The boy let out a sigh.
Brunette boy: Please, leave me alone.
The girl punched him again but this time she hit him in his face.
Girl w/ pig-tails: Louder. Let the world hear you.
John: Hey that's enough!
Both the boy and girl turn to see John but the girl grows fearful when she notices that Seraphina was standing next to him.
Girl w/ pig-tails: oh, S-Seraphina, I-I didn't see you there. I-I'm sorry for getting in your-
Seraphina: I don't care. This guy's the one who has a problem with you. I just want to get to the library.
John: You can't be serious! Again! You're going to leave someone in need AGAIN!? I was one thing because I can handle it, but this is someone stronger beating a low-tier just shit 'n' giggles! You HAVE to step in now.
Seraphina: I don't have to do anything, it's his own fault for getting caught in the first place.
John: So you'll just let this shit happen!
Seraphina doesn't answer and just starts walking to the door of the library.
Seraphina: If you don't like it then do something about it yourself.
John: Damnit. (Fucking useless)
Girl w/ pig-tails: Hey!
John: oh, You done pissing yourself?
He said in a mocking tone.
Girl w/ pig-tails: What's your problem!? Trying to get me in trouble with the Queen!?
John: I just can't stand it when punks like you. Thinking that just because you're a little stronger than the other guy that you can mess with them.
Girl w/ pig-tails: You heard her Seraphina doesn't care what happens to them, that means I can do whatever I want to them. But if you want to take his place so badly I can make that happen.
John just looks at her with disgust and anger in his eyes. He then looks towards the boy.
John: Hey you, what's your name?
The boy looks at him confused and answers
Brunette boy: … It's Terrence.
John smile's
John: Okay Terrence just hang on a sec, this won't take long.
Terrence: um, Okay.
Girl w/ pig-tails: Hey quit ignoring me!
John: You're too annoying to ignore.
Girl w/ pig-tails: What was that!?
John: You heard me. You're just some loser that wants to pretend that they're the strongest around so you went out and tried to find someone you know you could beat. Heck I don't even need to use my ability to knock you out.
The girl let go of Terrence and lunged at John.
Girl w/ pig-tails: You piece of -
Was the last thing to leave her mouth before her face collided with John's fist. She backed away dizzy from his punch.
Girl w/ pig-tails: Lucky sho-
John grabbed both her pig-tails and kneed her in the face. She fell to her own knees on impact, still conscious.
Girl w/ pig-tails: Your gonna-
He did it once more.
Girl w/ pig-tails: Wait a minute.
He didn't wait a second as he went for the same attack a third time.
Girl w/ pig-tails: PLeAsE sTop.
She said in a weak voice with tears starting to form in her shut eyes. She half expected there to be a fourth hit but instead she felt that her hair wasn't being graded anymore.
John: Promise to stop attacking the weaker students.
Her head shot up to look at him.
Girl w/ pig-tails: What?
John: I want you to promise to stop attacking the weaker students. If you don't I'll know and I'll come for you.
She shutters.
Girl w/ pig-tails: I-I promise!
John: Good. So Terrence, how good are you to walk to the infirmary? … Terrence?
He finally looks back to see Terrence not there anymore.
John: (I guess he got scared.)
Girl w/ pig-tails: Figure's he lifted you behind.
John turns back to the girl who shutters again.
Girl w/ pig-tails: um, Wait.
John: Whatever. Are you okay to walk, or do you need to be carried?
Girl w/ pig-tails: What!?
John: I'm asking if you can make it to the infirmary on your own or not.
Girl w/ pig-tails: … ... … I'm a little dizzy but I think I can manage on my own.
He extended his hand to her and helped her up.
Girl w/ pig-tails: ( What's this guy's game? )
John: Good, now never let me catch you doing this crap again.
Was all he had left to say, after that he walked into the library.
Girl w/ pig-tails: ( Weird. )
LOCATION: WEAPONS HEADQUARTERS
Velvet: What are you reading?
Oscar: uhh?
Velvet: That book! You've had your face in it for the past few days.
Oscar: oh, It's just the book John lent me, his father wrote it. He also said it's one of the reasons he chose to train with the Keyblade.
Velvet: So it's just a thing for guys to try and imitate things they read and see about.
Oscar: What?
Velvet: It's nothing, just remembering something.
Oscar: I see. …um, Velvet.
Velvet gives the Exorcist a suspicious look.
Oscar: What's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?
Velvet: I'm just surprised you would call me a daemon by my actual name.
Oscar: Well we are teammates.
Velvet: For Now.
She finishes the Exorcist sentence in an annoyed and angered tone of voice.
Oscar: Yes, for now. Anyway I'm just curious,... what was your brother like?
As soon as the question was asked, Velvet's Therion claw formed. She brought the claw closer to Oscar's head.
Velvet: Choose your next words carefully Exorcist!
Oscar: WAIT WAIT WAIT! I didn't mean to offend! I just wanted to know a little more about your life before Titania. That's all I swear on my honor and my life!
It takes a moment for the Daemon woman to lower her claw. Afterwards the arm turned back to normal and she crossed her arms.
Velvet: Why should I tell you anything?
Oscar: I just don't want us to be constantly at each other's throats. Like it or not we're in a position where we have to work with one another. It wouldn't do anyone any good if we end up striking each other down.
Velvet: You don't want to fight right?
Oscar: Yes.
Velvet: Then don't get in my way.
Oscar: But-
Velvet: Everything I do is for revenge. Everyone I take down is to get one step closer towards revenge. If you don't want a fight then don't stand between me and my goal.
She then walks away from Oscar and up towards her room leaving the Exorcist alone.
Her room had the same layout as the other bedrooms only difference being the bedsheets were red and the trunk was a crimson color. On her desk was a single brown comb that she took up and stared at, clenching it tightly as if she was worried if she didn't it would leave her.
Velvet: I will avenge your death. I promise Laphicet.
LOCATION: Wellston High School
Seraphina: John, these are the notes I wrote up for you. All you have to do is read off these index cards and follow my cues.
She hands over the index cards to John who looks at them for a second. The Queen could hear him say something too quietly for her to make out. Before she could inquire about what he said the index cards in John's hands started to burn up into ash by a sinister looking purple flame.
Seraphina: Hey! What are you doing!
John: I told you. I came here to finish my education and have as much of a normal life as I can. I'm not here to freeload off ya.
Seraphina: Look here.
John: Since we've had no communication these days I went and did the project on my own too.
Seraphina: Did you just ignore me!?
John: Let's just figure out who says what during the presentation.
Everyone of the students were giving their presentations some were well done, others were just getting by. Then came time for Seraphina John. Well the Queen was giving her part of the project she was thinking to herself about John.
Seraphina: ( Maybe this won't be so bad. I may not know what his level my be but from the way he carries himself outside of class at least, he's probably elite-tier at best. He does remind me somewhat of Blyke, besides he's surprisingly genuine. I should give him a chance. )
After the Presentation
Seraphina: ( I shouldn't have given that moron a chance! )
Was the only thing going through her mind as she looked at her grade for the first part of the project. It was a B- minus.
Seraphina: ( Did that guy even read the book or did he just watch a movie of it and called it a day!? How could I let this happen!? )
The young wielder had a completely different thoughts going through his head. One that caused him to smile like a small child on Christmas morning.
John: ( Dis like the best score I've gotten since coming here! )
Teacher: Seraphina? Where are you going?
Hearing that got John's attention as he looked towards the back of the classroom to see the Queen walking for the door. But John could see something the others in the class couldn't see. It was faint but he knew what he was looking at, for a second he thought he was wrong but all the signs were there. He could see it, he could sense it, he could smell it in the air. It was Darkness.
Seraphina: Library.
John: ( What's her problem!? Why's her darkness leaking out!? )
John: um, Hey, I'll come with.
Seraphina: Stay the HELL away!
She snarled which caused the students to cower in their seats growing fearful of their Queen, even more than they already were. John could see the darkness growing so he backed off hoping it would calm the angered royal. Afterwards she proceeds to walk out the room.
John: Damnit.
He was ready to go after her but was by Elaine.
Elaine: Wait!
John: hmm.
Elaine: I think you should just leave her be, I've never seen her like that before. You'll get hurt.
John: Well I can't just leave her.
Blyke chimes in to speak.
Blyke: I don't think you have a choice. Seraphina is the Ace for a reason, not even Arlo the King can touch her and he's the second strongest in region.
John: Your point?
Blyke: ( This guy. ) I'm saying she's the strongest in the whole region. No one can touch her.
Elaine: He's right, she's too strong for you, if you fight her your not gonna be walking away.
John: I'm trying NOT to fight her.
Is the last thing he said before he starts his search for the Queen. As he goes through the halls he could hear the students talk about Seraphina.
Random Student: I heard she got a B- on a project, I was so disappointed in her.
John: ( What are you her parent!? )
Random Student: I don't like her hair.
John: ( Do you even see your own hair!? )
Random Student: She's losing it, can't even keep the new kid in line.
John: ( I was gone for so long, I almost forgot crap like this happens here. Because she's a royal, she'll always be on everyone's radar. It's a miracle she hasn't fallen to darkness yet. )
He finally reached the Library and found Seraphina sitting at a table working on the project. The darkness in her appearing to have lessen.
John: Hey. Let's start the next part of the project together, we can do better this time.
The darkness in her begins to overflow again as she lunges at John with her hands around his throat.
Seraphina: Listen to me, John. Use my notes for the rest of the project or else.
Her hands press hard around his neck.
John: Listen, if you don't get ahold of yourself it'll be to late for me to help you!
Seraphina: Why would I need yours or anybody's help! I've spent my whole life to make sure I'm perfect. I have perfect grades, I've become the strongest here! ALL ON MY OWN, I've never needed help!
John: Is being perfect at everything all you want!?
Seraphina: Yes.
John: Well do you like doing this extra work? Is any of this fun for you? Or are you just trying to impress people? Do you even know who you are?
Seraphina: That doesn't concern you. Damnit why won't you just do as I say!?
John: Because I don't want to. I don't care about what others think of me. And I don't have to just follow a path someone else forces me to go on, if I go down any path it's going to be of my own free will, not someone else's. … You know you can do it to, if you want to.
Seraphina: What?
John: You can fight the fate that someone else forces on to you.
Seraphina: ...
Elsewhere in Wellston High School
Blue Haired student: Hey Arlo, you wouldn't believe what I just heard about Seraphina.
He said to the young man walking beside him now known as Arlo.
Arlo: Is more about her getting a "B" on a project.
Blue Haired student: Well it has a little to do with that.
Arlo: And why should I care about it Holden?
Holden: Well, people are saying it has something to do with her partner.
Arlo: …So, Seraphina can handle the poor sap on her own.
Holden: Well you see…um-
Arlo: Spit it out already!
Holden: Right, sorry. I'm not sure why but some people are saying Seraphina is afraid of him.
Arlo: ...oh, Really now.
The king responded with interest in his voice and a smile of his face.
LOCATION: WEAPONS HEADQUARTERS
Oscar: John, your back.
John: Hey Oscar. … Wait, where's Velvet?
Oscar: In her room.
John: Okay, well I won't be here for long. I'm going back to my apartment soon, I just want to tell you guys that there'll be no missions for the week and maybe next week.
Oscar: What!? I-Is that safe.
John: It has to be done, besides Velvet's right we can't keep this up every night. So take this time to rest.
Oscar: Well okay.
For the next week John and Seraphina reluctantly worked together on the project. They spent almost every minute within the library, going over the book word by word, page by page over and over again. Finally at the end of the week they got their new grade an A- minus.
Seraphina: Why do I keep getting grades like THIS?
But at least a certain Keyblade wielder was happy with his grade.
John: Look, check it out! All that work paid off! We got an A!
Seraphina: ( I'm starting to think this guy is easily pleased. ) How are you okay with this? Are you blind or something?
John: No. ( Besides if I was I have like 2 Eye Drops and a Panacea on me right now. )
Seraphina: The MINUS. It means we did poorly.
John: Is that it? It's still the highest in the class. Can't you just take a small victory for now and do better next time?
Seraphina: … Forget it, why do I keep giving you changes just to disappoint me!?
The Queen walks away from John still angered by her new grade.
John: ( Well at least there isn't any darkness coming off her like last time. But still what's her problem? )
Sometime passes and John finds two girls taking about something. The young wielder doesn't pays them any mind, that is until he hears one of them say Seraphina's name.
John: ( Are people still bad mouthing her? )
Female student #1: I know right, so much for the great Ace of Wellston.
Female student #2: Always acting so important when she's not even perfect.
John: Why don't you two shut the hell up.
The pair turn their heads to John.
John: ( Why did I say that? )
Female student #2: What was that!?
Female student #1: Who do you think you are!?
The young wielder doesn't back down from this and steps closer to the pair.
John: Her partner! That's who!
Female student #2: Well, haven't you ever learned not to butt into others' conversations?
John: You're the one's talking about MY partner. I say I have every right.
Female student #1: Annoying piece of crap!
Female student #2: Let's just kick his ass already!
Was the last thing they said before both their heads were slammed into the wall, making spider cracks in said wall. The pair slides to the floor still conscious but visibly dazed.
Female student #2: What the hell?
John: Are you done?
Female student #2: ( Da hell, how he'd do that much damage without powering up? )
John: You two have no right to judge people who are doing their best. The only ones caring about what grades she gets are you gossip hounds going after the most dedicated student. Now then if you can still walk then get out of my sight.
He was walking away from the pair, but one of them got up and was ready to attack him from behind. John can already feel the attack coming.
John: ( Damn, I was really trying to let you off easy. )
He was getting ready to retaliate but before he could he heard a loud noise that sounded similar to the sound of a head hitting a wall…HARD. The same thing he did just a moment ago. John turned to see Seraphina standing over the student that was ready to attack John.
Female student #2: The head, again seriously!?
Seraphina: You got a problem with that?
Female student #2: Damn right I-SERAPHINA!
Seraphina: You just tried to attack my partner from behind.
Female student #2: a-ah! I'm sorry! I wasn't thinking!
Seraphina: Didn't seem like it to me.
John: ( Dammit not again! )
The Queen's darkness started to leak again.
Female student #2: Please forgive me! I'm sorry!
Seraphina: Are you sure about that? Doesn't look like you're "sorry"?
The Queen's darkness gets even more intense, only subsiding slightly at the sound of a familiar voice.
John: Don't worry I think she's learned her lesson.
He says as he puts his hand on her shoulder.
John: Hey you back there! Take your friend over here and leave!
Female student #1: uh, Ya okay!
The girl quickly takes her friend and goes to the infirmary as fast as she can when holding someone up. Leaving the partnered pair by themselves.
John: Thanks for watching my back with that, you can calm down now.
The darkness subsides.
Seraphina: Come on let's go finish this project.
John: Ya ( I have to help her with that darkness. If I don't her Heartless could probably do some serious damage. How has she not gone on a rampage yet? Maybe she's just really good at holding it all in. That can't be good for the heart though. )
Seraphina: Hey are you coming?
John: Crap sorry.
A week's time passes for the partnered pair studying everyday together, during that week the Weapons went out on patrol three times that week. Now the last day of the project has arrived.
Teacher: Now take a moment with your partner to discuss before we start the presentation.
Seraphina: You seem… focused. What's wrong?
John: I just want this to go well. I hate how people talk about you just for all that small crap.
Seraphina: So even you can hate things.
John: What's that supposed to mean?
Seraphina: A lot of people think of you as a goody two-shoes … but with a slight temper.
John: Where'd they get that idea from?
The Queen gives the already confused boy an even more confused look.
Seraphina: … Are you serious? Anyway, just focus on the presentation.
John: Yay, okay.
Teacher: Seraphina and John, please start.
Seraphina: I will tell you this though. You are the best partner I've ever had.
John: hmm?
Seraphina: Well what are you waiting for? Let's go.
John: Ya.
After the last presentation the grade that presented itself to the Queen was an "A". A simple "A". She got up from her seat and walked over to her partner.
Seraphina: John.
She was surprised to see John, smiling once again like a kid that got a new shiny toy.
John: We did it! We got an "A"! Let's celebrate! Let's go to Woaba Boba!
Seraphina: What are you talking about we got an "A" today but the final grade is still a "A-"
John: So we got a passing score, the highest in the class right now at that. We more than deserve a reward.
Seraphina: I rather go-
John: No library, reward now!
He takes a quick glance around the classroom and finds Blyke and Isen talking in the corner.
John: Hey! You two. Sera and me were about to celebrate. You want to come with?
The duo almost made a double take from that.
Blyke: But … that's Seraphina
John: And she's coming to celebrate so what.
Isen: So where we going
Blyke: HEY!
Location: Woaba Boba
Waitress: Hello and Welcome to Woaba Boba. What would everyone be having?
John: Four Mango Boba
Waitress: Great, we'll have those out for you in a bit.
Blyke: Did you just order for us?
John: None of you have been here before. You guys at least have to try the number 1 boba they got.
Sera: How did you convince me to come here?
John: Don't worry about that. Just relax and have some fun.
Waitress: Four Mango Boba. Here you go.
Isen: Wow that was fast.
Waitress: Enjoy!
John: Thanks. Well go on, Sera, try it.
Sera: Why do you keep calling me that?
John: You names to long. Sera sounds short and sweet. Now taste it.
Sera: Fine.
The Queen does as she was asked.
Sera: oh, It's really good. ( I think this is the first time I've ever rewarded myself for anything. Now that I think about it, this is the first time I've ever gotten a reward and it feels like…like this. )
This is true for the Ace of Wellston. For her whole life the only things she was allowed to do have been nothing but academic studies the training of her ability. She was never praised or rewarded for all her efforts by neither family or peers.
John: See, I told you.
Isen: Blyke we've got to bring Remi! This is great!
Isen said as he was putting his face right in front of his red headed friend. Much to the boys' annoyance.
Blyke: I hear ya, now get out of my face!
John: PHAH HA HA HA HA HA!
The quartet of students spent the time drinking their Boba while talking. The duo of Blyke Isen were somewhat stiff because they were sitting in the presents of Wellston's Queen but we're able to keep their cool thanks to John being with them.
The group of four mostly talked about Blyke Isen's time with the project. Mostly about how Isen kept trying to look up different girls from other school's or how Blyke sometimes stopped working to play computer games.
John: Wait, let's go back for a second. Isen isn't what you're doing, stalking?
Blyke: He does it all the time!
Isen: Not all the time.
Sera: That sounds like a confession.
Isen: But the last one was really cute!
Blyke: Please stop talking.
John: Is he always like this?
Blyke: You get used to it.
Isen: oh, I almost forgot! I got a new scoop … and it … involves … you.
With a smile on his face the stalker points towards the young Keyblade wielder.
John: Me?
Isen: Yes, you. I've heard we're getting another new student. So that means you will soon no longer be the new kid.
Blyke: Already? It's only been a few weeks.
Sera: Well now I'm curious. Do you have anything else on them?
Isen: The only other thing I know is that the new student is a girl and that they're starting next week.
John: Are you stalking this one too?
Isen: I don't have any other information right now since it's kinda last minute.
John: I feel like you're avoiding the question.
*Gummiphone rings*
John: Hello. … Wait really!? Okay I'll get ready!
He hangs up the Gummiphone.
Sera: Was that your family?
John: No, more like…my boss. I've finished my boba so I'm gonna pay for everyone and go. I'll see you guys some other time.
John gets up from his seat and does just that.
Isen: Damn!
Blyke: What's your problem?
Isen: I was gonna use that info I just gave to get him to spill the beans about himself. I never got that exclusive with him.
LOCATION: WEAPONS HEADQUARTERS
John: Hey Oscar, Velvet!
Velvet: Why are you yelling!?
Oscar: Is something wrong
John: I got a call from Master Yen Sid. He said he found someone from your world! And that he wants us to go and get them!
Velvet/Oscar: !!!
Authors notes
Hey all, sorry if this feels like filler I know I said that this chapter won't be long and it wasn't. But I really couldn't think of another way to make John Sera friends at least not without her finding out about the Heartless and other things.
I just wanted John to have friends on his world that don't know about the Kingdom Hearts related things. So I wanted him to try and make some friends in this story. Anyway next chapter the team is going to a new world. I already have some Ideas for other world's but I'm open to suggestions if I know and or like them.
