Chapter 21: The Holy Quest (2,6K)

Christian's Pov

I am a fucking dead man. This man is going to fucking kill me and get away with it! Who's going to tell on him? Ana and Kate love him, and Elliott wants to live. He'll even give him an alibi.

The Colonel keeps looking at me, his eyes noticing every little thing about my appearance before Ana calls from the kitchen, "Who is it, Christian?"

My mouth is dry, so I clear my throat, but I am never given the opportunity to say anything. The Colonel makes a move to indicate that he is going in, whether I am in the way or not, and so I move to the side and follow him to the kitchen, trying to make Grace proud,

"Good morning, Colonel."

The man straight up ignores me and enters the kitchen, making Elliott stop kissing Kate's neck and sit up straight as he yaps a few octaves higher than his usual voice, "Colonel! It's been a while."

"It has indeed."

Ana immediately stops with the slicing of her fruits and runs to jump into her father's arms, hugging him closely. He wraps his arms around her and kisses her hair, "Hey, Annie. How are you doing?"

She mumbles something against his chest that none of us can hear but make him laugh before they break their embrace and she quickly looks my way with a smile that probably means 'hang in there'.

Yeah, right. She's not the one about to die. In fact, I remember very clearly how she bolted when my Mom showed up unannounced. But if I bolt, the Colonel is probably going to hunt me down, anyway. I am such a dead man. And I didn't even do anything to Ana.

"Ray? How is it going?"

"Always good, Kate. How's my favourite girl?" He says, hugging Kate to him as well. Ana goes back to her fruit cutting with faux indignation written all over her face, "Yeah, yeah. Pretend I'm not here, hearing all of this."

The three of them laugh whilst Elliott and I quickly glance at each other. We both feel like outsiders peeking at a private moment, but at least he wasn't ignored. The trio talk for five more minutes, though the Colonel addresses Elliott a couple of times, and then Ana starts the blender and walks her father out.

We all look at the door and I go to her room, not ready to hear Elliott tease me about all of this. I try not to overthink everything, but I can't help but think of the conversation we had with Ana over the phone after grace interrupted our fun. She casually said that she was sure her father did a background check on me.

Is this why he can't stand me? Because unlike Elliott I come with a lot of baggage? What does he know about me? The adoption is a matter of public record, and a quick search can lead to Ella and all that part of my life. I have no doubts he knows about that. I have no doubts either he knows about my weekly visits to Martha, but at best, it shows I'm working on my issues.

No, the real question is, does he know about elena? I don't think he shared any information with Ana, because if he did, this girl deserves an Oscar and she isn't the person I thought she was. But still, it is quite obvious that he already made his opinion on me and that it's a very poor opinion. He doesn't like me.

Ana finally comes into the room with two smoothies in her hands and she gives me one with a gentle smile. "Dad can be an idiot sometimes. Don't mind him."

I put my drink on the bedside table and pull Ana closer to me. Her smile never fails as she also puts her drink aside and slowly gets on my lap and I ask her,

"Am I going to die today?"

"Nah. I told him to behave. I told him that behind all that crazy stupid money and your good looks, you're also a good boy."

"Mmmhmm," I say, unconvinced and she laughs, slowly bringing her hands to my hair,

"I swear you're in no danger. In fact, if you're afraid, you can sleep here tonight and I'll be your teddy bear."

"Yeah, and where will you be tomorrow when he will be waiting for me in my office?"

"He won't," she promises, gently scratching my scalp with her nails.

I close my eyes, appreciating the moment as she keeps on touching me. It would be nice to sleep with Ana again, but should I push my luck like that? What if I have a nightmare tonight?but then again, she can't dump me for having bad dreams. Maybe I should push my luck and take what she is willing to give me.

We stay like that for a moment, her fingers lost in my hair and my hands on her ass as I realise how much she also enjoys it. She might refrain herself because of my issues, but if her touch is any indication, she craves for physical contact.

So I reopen my eyes and look deep into her big blue eyes. god, this woman is beautiful! My hand move from her ass to her face and what I intended as a gentle kiss turns into one heated kiss coming from the bottom of my heart.

She immediately reciprocate and in a blunt move that I didn't even think about, I pick her up and turn us so I can lie her down on the mattress. Her hands grip my hair and I groan with approval, as my own hands go up her body, looking for her glorious breast.

Once I get a hold of them, she moans, though this is definitely tamed compared to the moans I have managed to get out of her, but then I understand that she's trying to keep quiet since Kate and Elliott are in the kitchen, awake and aware.

Instead of making me stop, it makes me wickedly grin, and I undo the first couple of buttons of her pyjama top before kissing my way down. I kiss her lips, her jaw, her chin, her throat, all the way to her breast, and when I finally suck on one of her nipples, she calls out my name in the most delicious sound I have ever heard.

I look up, relishing in the sight in front of me. She has her eyes closed, her breath is all over the place and she's biting down on her sweet lip to avoid making noise. Ana is definitely a screamer.

But before I can even think of getting further or even prolonging the moment, Kate bangs on the door.

"Ana?!"

None of us moves, and I care very little about Kate right now. I am on a mission. I am going to give my woman an orgasm. That ought to diffuse the tension of meeting my parents. Kate bangs on the door again, calling for Ana and I growl against her chest,

"Tell her to fuck off. We're busy."

She represses a chuckle and clears her throat as I knead her breast and suck on her neck where I have recently discovered she is really sensitive.

"Ana! I need to talk to Christian."

"He's in the shower," she easily lies, her voice showing no indication that she's in the middle of something quite enjoyable.

"Well, tell him to hurry. It's urgent!"

I am never going to get rest from anyone, am I?! With a heavy sigh full of annoyance, I get up and stomp to the door, ripping it open as I bark to her, "What?!" If the Colonel didn't kill me today, there is still going to be a murder in this apartment.

Kate barely blinks, showing me the screen of her phone as she takes in my appearance, clearly understanding what was happening in the room and that very little showering was involved. I look at her phone, ready to send her to the deepest hell to interrupt me over something trivial as whatever she wants to show me, but then I see a picture of myself holding Ana's hand in the streets of Seattle, with the headline

Billionaire Christian Grey comes out of celibacy and takes girlfriend to local fro-yo.

Doing my best to contain my temper, I close the door of Ana's room and go to the living room, already taking my own phone out of my pocket to check if PR did their jobs. But it seems that Miss Kavanagh is the only one working over the weekend.

"Shit! Shit! Shit!" I curse under my breath, sending a quick text to Taylor so he can come and pick me up straight away. It think of calling Kate's boss, but she's here and already in the know. Plus I can be sure that she will think of Ana above all else. Even above me.

"What do I do?" I ask her and she quirks an eyebrow at me.

"Didn't you expect that at some point. You've been on the list of Sexiest Man alive five years in a row. And on Forbes. And I don't know how many other magazines not worth mentioning. Of course people are going to gossip about your dating life. Even at work."

"What?" This is news to me. I don't go around asking people what they do once they clock out. And I don't even ask for a no-fraternisation policy, unlike many other companies I know. So what need do they have to talk about me? Me being single or not won't change a thing about how things are run a work.

Kate shrugs as if it wasn't a big deal and she lets me know, "I think it's since Ana came for lunch Monday. But anyway, to get back to the situation at hand, it only depends on you. Is this a fling or is this something serious?"

This makes my panic slow down drastically as I look at Kate with a new eye. I have heard both Elliott and Ana gush about Kate and her abilities, how she is so clever and so loyal to those she loves, and it is becoming clear as day right now.

"Is this my employee asking this, or Ana's best friend?" I ask her, seeing through her game and questions. She smirks, not the slightest embarrassed to have been caught snooping around and trying to make me say things about my relationship with Ana to her.

"Honestly? Both. But a little bit more the bestie. I'd give you the whole speech hurt my bestie and I'll hurt you, but you're a smart man, you know better."

I chuckle, appreciating her candour and rawness. I've never really spent any time with just Kate as such. There was always Elliott or Ana around. And at work, we barely interact. We're not on the same levels. Though this might quickly change depending on how this whole situation evolves.

"Well, as my girlfriend's best friend, do you really think I'd be here if this was just a fling. I mean, I have seen her Dad and yet, here I am."

This makes her laugh, though just like Ana she swears that Ray is a marshmallow deep down. I don't argue because I have more urgent matter than my imminent death. She scrolls through her phone and lets me know,

"So far it only looks like one tabloids. Which probably means that by tomorrow, the whole world, including the internet, will know. My advice? Don't comment on it. You were always private about your life. In a couple of days, they will find another poor victim to sink their teeth into."

I let out a sigh, glad to hear that, but of course, she kills my relief before it can properly settle in, "But, do have your lawyers make sure that they keep Ana's identity off anything they could publish. And depending on your level of privateness, keep the PDA at a bare minimum. A simple hand on a shoulder can turn you into a maniac who beats his wife if they want to. I'll keep an eye on it, if Michael is okay with that."

I shake my head and command, "No. You keep an eye on it. I don't care what Michael says."

She nods and Elliott comes out of her bedroom, clean and in proper clothes. He makes a joke on how I seem to live again now that the Colonel is gone, but I don't listen. I go back to Ana's room to get dressed and have the displeasure of finding out that she's in the shower.

For a brief second, I am tempted with the idea of joining her, but we are not intimate enough yet to have this sort of interaction. After all, today was the first time I was touching her boob skin on skin. So I leave her a note telling her Laters, babe, and I get ready to join Taylor who is waiting for me downstairs.

"Kavanagh?" I call her out, and she looks up from the kitchen sink. "Keep that to yourself. Don't tell anyone anything. I'll handle it."

I wait for her to nod, though she clearly doesn't like it. But that's why I called her by her last name, so she knows that it's her boss talking, not her best friend's boyfriend. I just don't want to panic Ana. It's a lot to process, and she doesn't need that right now. Especially when she's already so anxious about meeting my parents.

As I get in the car, I call Khan, my main lawyer and can't help but be even more pissed off at the situation. More than me just wanting to enjoy a sunny afternoon off with my girlfriend in the streets of Seattle, more than being photographed without my knowledge, it's that it was outside of a fro-yo. If this turns into an inflation of sales for frozen yoghurts, I will have lost my faith in humanity.
